I provided Huell with many of the button-down shirts he wore on the show from 2007 and on. I worked for an apparel company back then. He called to thank me on more than one occasion and was the nicest person ever. He even had one of his producers send me a photo of him wearing one of his favorite shirts. We were supposed to meet up for lunch but unfortunately, we were never able to get it scheduled. I miss him. Great video, thanks.
That's so awesome to hear! Do you buy chance still work in that business? Would love to get an original Huell style shirt. I really enjoyed your story and you taking the time to tell it. He’s one of a kind and will not be forgotten. 👏🏻
What a positive way to start 2025.🤗👏👏👏💜 Thank you for this tribute to the wonderful Huell Howser. He was such a genuine and remarkable human being. I loved watching his productions. They were both enjoyable and educational. You could feel the love that he had for our beautiful state of California. We miss you Huell.😢🕊🌹💜
Thanks for watching. Huell was such a huge part of my life that my grandmother introduced me to back in the day! Traveled many spots in my adventures in Huells footsteps with more to come!
In the world of social media negativity, THANK YOU for helping shine the light of true positivity of Huell! He was an incredible ambassador for the Great State of California and is truly missed. His lasting legacy lives on through his wonderful, inspirational television shows. He lives on in our hearts and will always be with us with his “California Gold”!
My wife and I just so happen to be visiting Palm Springs and came across your video. Thank you for sharing Huell's story and tips about where to visit here.. We're big fans.
You know, I never thought of visiting his hometown. That’s awesome, I’m out in Orlando once or twice a year. Maybe need to throw a Kentucky trip in the mix too. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
Isn’t that the truth. I know he didn’t talk politics but it would be interesting to know what he would’ve thought if the current state of affairs. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. I loved watching California Gold with Huell Howser. I hope the state of California does something in remembrance of him!
Thanks for the kind words. I’m lucky enough to be in this area and able to share it with so many others. If you’re interested I have other Huell videos on my channel. Including Chapman University where his camera with Louie is and his desk! Thanks again for watching
I’m not from California, but I’ve just recently started watching his videos and I’m watched about 30 of them so far and they are so amazing. A lot of the places that he visited are actually still around to this very day.
He was so much fun to grow up with watching, always such a positive attitude. I have a few videos on my channel of places Huell went, include all his archives at the Chapman University in Orange, Ca. Thanks for watching’
Huell was a Reporter in Los Angeles and I used to watch him then too . Californias gold was a plus too .God Bless you Huell Howser you left this world too soon
What a great surprise! Huell showed all of us those things that we may have missed when Sunday drives with the family was the norm. I've seen lots of California but he showed us there was so much more. Miss him.
Thank you for visiting places Huell Howser showed us, and it is wonderful to see the plaque for him. Amazing man, I will always ❤️ love him. He was a great person. We miss you Huell. ❤️🤗❤️
Thanks pal. Huell Howser was an icon. I cherished each episode of California Gold, especially episodes located where I live, near Pismo Beach. Classy, endearing, humble.
I loved when he was around Pismo, he could make anything so interesting. He has a quote along the lines of “anything’s interesting just point a camera at it”. His camera and belongings are in the basement of the library at Chapman University. I did a video on that on my channel too if you’re interested or would like to visit. Thanks for watching!
Always the best when you would hear Huell introduce himself and where we were going. They have a RUclips channel now playing all the episodes all day. Thanks for watching!
Huell Hauser was the best at what he did watching his shows always made me feel good. There are other people trying to emulate what he did posting their videos on RUclips but there’s only one Huell Hauser the other people they don’t quite match up
Nobody ever will! He was “one of a kind” and I believe people lack his true sincerity. I’ve spoke with a few people from his videos and Huell was the same guy on and off the camera. He would also revisit a lot of the places he did segments on just to touch base and say hello without the camera.
My uncle met Huell when Bullock closed, my Father met Huell in East LA at Brooklyn and Soto, I met Huell on Larchmont Blvd..He was a Blessing to California..Thank KCET for continuing his shows so that all can see what most people have no idea what California has to offer..
You can actually watch them on RUclips now. They have a channel playing Al the classics and changing them constantly. Also, all his episodes if you google “Huell Howser Archive” every episode is available there. Thanks for watching!
I met Huell while fishing on the American River in Sacramento. He chartered a barge and took his camera crew up the river. They drove that thing right up the middle of the river near the dam where everyone was fishing! A lot of guys got mad, but i thought it was kinda funny. Later on I was in the parking lot putting away my gear and Huell walks up to me and says, “Hi!, I’m Huell Howser” in that accent of his, just made me smile. He asked me about fishing and we had a great conversation. I miss the guy, he was always so positive and uplifting.!
That’s such an awesome story! Thanks for sharing, Huell was funny that way were he would interject himself into situations and just be as pleasant as can be. RIP Huell
Huell is not only a California icon, but a National icon. My favorite episode was the Big Creek Project hour long episode. My family would venture along Kaiser Pass to Jackass Meadow campground to enjoy the accesible back country.
I haven’t seen that one but will look it up in the archives. The hour long Sinatra house and Snow Creek were always one of my faves! Thanks for watching
Wow, this showed in my feed, weird. When I was in my early 20's I lived right there at the bottom of the tram. brings back memories. I never knew who Huell was, thanks for sharing.
Huell and I were seeing each other back in 2009, I met him at Smoke Tree Ranch, where I was employed. He was so much fun and decent. He left us way to early.
Just moved here to Palm Springs (La Quinta) from L.A. I saw that doggie dish last week while shopping. I remember California Gold growing up. Didn’t know about the doggie dish episode.
It’s actually the “Palm Springs Plaza” episode. You can find it on Huell Howser Chapman University archives under Palm Springs week if you google it. Great episode and thanks for watching
Childlike curiosity + Southern charm + Old fashioned politeness = Huell Howser. What a journalist too. When he went up the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge platform, the Skyscraper window washers platform and the Desert Wind Turbines, I gasped! Man of steel nerves. Many times people on camera knew who he was, gushed, but he redirected their enthusiasm to the story. I'm hoping there are some lost Huell videos that will be found. Shoutout to Louie and Cameron!
Awesome video. I'm one of the HuellAgains. Not sure if we've met. Myself and some of my fellow HuellAgains have been in The Volcano House and rented The Wheelhouse and were part of the Huell Star effort. If you're not already a HuellAgain, please join us.
Great video! Huell bought the house at 247 Monterey Road back in 2000 for 225,000. After his passing the home sold for 363,500 in 2013. Comparable homes in the neighborhood are selling for around 800,000. 🌴🏡🌴
Back in the early 1980s I worked for a construction company that did remodeling for local Los Angeles CBS channel 2 news. It was on Sunset Blvd Hollywood. Huell did short segments for channel 2, like a mini California Gold. I forgot the name of the segments. I really liked the format. Id see Huell often enough walking through the many hallways. He was in person exactly the way he was on camera, maybe even more animated. He was always all-smiles, very energetic, extremely friendly. I was 20 years old. If him and I talked, I don’t remember. But, it was most likely, considering his persona, we probably talked, said hi. He was always super excited about something. We did a lot of work for channel 2, and CBS. We even remodeled the studio were the live news was broadcasted. We did little and large jobs for CBS over a few years. I learned a couple years ago Huell Howser started working for local LA CBS about the same time I had. My girlfriend and I in the last couple years went to a couple Huell Howser spots. She learned of the places from a map at Triple A. One of our favorite segments he did was just 6 miles from us in Seal Beach. I’ll be sure to show her this video. Thank you
That is such a cool story! If you ever google “Huell Howser Chapman” all of his videos are there and easy to sort and watch past episodes. I have to figure Huell was always up for talking to anyone. And just as nice and friendly as his tv persona. I know he visited Leonard Knight at Salvation Mountain off camera just to check in and make sure he was ok and just to talk. Thanks so much for the story!
@kvon432k yeah I was friends with his trainer. We went to same gym in studio city. He also would frequently visit Miceli's Restaurant. We had many conversations at the bar. This goes back to the late 1980s
He only was in Palm Springs on the weekend. He actually lived in Los Angeles. He use that house mostly for entertaining. He also had a house in 29 Palms I’m an old girl and I knew all these people when I lived there.
You could always tell he wasn't from California because of his accent. But he sure loved his adopted home state. Back when California was a great place to live and work and raise a family.
The good ole days for sure. Huell was a Tennesse transplant but lived CA so much. I’ve lived from the San Fernando Valley, the OC and Temecula and am sad to see the mishandling of this beautiful state. Thanks for watching!
In the late 60s, bit of country restaurant was Hamburger Ding a Ling. A hangout for us high school kids. There was a phone on every table. You ordered your food but could also call other tables.
Huell is a National Treasure, loved his shows. If you get the chance, go see the Chapman College in Orange CA's Huell Howser Museum. It's truly AMAHZING
I worked with Huell on the twelve part series entitled “California’s Golden Fairs” We visited many fairs together and I learned a lot. You are correct. He was a true gentleman and a heck of a lot of fun. My family and I enjoyed our time with him. Feel free to contact me if you want to hear any of the stories from that summer.
Wow that's so cool! I would love to hear any stories you have to share, how was Huell off the camera hanging out? I’ve read Louie’s book and he said Huell would love to socialize. It must have been fun especially looking back on doing those episodes with Huell too. I was just telling someone, Huell was really the first guy to cover Coachella. It was a 1hr long episode and Prince was the headline. 🤣🤷🏼♂️
Always loved Huell. And he loved his California. He is very missed but not forgotten. He IS California's Gold. ** Huell had a house in 29 Palms as well. He owned two side-by-side parcels there, one that was improved and one that was vacant.
The best restaurant in this central market is Farm. I don't know if it was there during Huell's time but it's not to be missed. And Jillies! I worked there one night washing dishes. It was good money for a 15 yo kid. I would have stayed on if they would have allowed it but those jobs were enough to rent a cheap studio often situated around a pool at one of the cottage motels.
Farm is great. What a blast from the past, thanks for sharing that story, I love hearing stories like that from the past? Did you ever see Jillie, Frank or any other celebrities back in the day?
I moved a friend to north Palm Springs. North part of town is cheaper to buy because it’s windier. The day we unloaded the furniture it was 109 degrees.
Been there when it’s been 122. I know it well. I can definitely appreciate Oregon and its climate too as I’m in Roseburg, Eugene, Springfield, Eugene and Coos Bay quite a bit. I get it’s not for everyone for sure!
A few years ago, Phil Yeh and I were painting a mural surrounding the historic McDonald's Museum in San Bernardino. That's where I met and befriended Huell Howser's cameraman, Luis Fuerte. And then, I included both them into our mural. They are located to the right of the Museum's front entrance, near The Three Stooges. The McDonald's Museum is located on E and 14th St. in San Bernardino. Have Fun and tell them Rory sent you.
@@kvon432k You're welcome! If you go, I hope you get a chance to visit the WigWam Motel on Route 66. The Patel Family have worked hard to restore this historic landmark. The even hired me to restore the iconic Zigzag patterns on each Teepee.
Without fail I always seemed to feel better about life after watching one of Huell’s productions. I was privileged to see him in the beginning
Isn’t that the truth! He knew how to treat everyone with respect. Thanks for watching
Me too
I miss Huell, thanks for bringing him back.
Me too! Thank you so much for watching!
I do too!
Me too, kinda corny, but always informative.

I watched California gold every chance I got even the reruns love howser rest in paradise 😂
He was the only "Celebrity" that I actually cried for when he passed. Thank you for bringing back all the good memories!!
Totally agree! Really was an all around great person.
I provided Huell with many of the button-down shirts he wore on the show from 2007 and on. I worked for an apparel company back then. He called to thank me on more than one occasion and was the nicest person ever. He even had one of his producers send me a photo of him wearing one of his favorite shirts. He was the man! Such a character and genuine.
I am not here to make you look bad, I would never do that ...style he had
Used to watch Huell all the time. Visited his home in Gallatin, Tennessee. Greetings from Florida.

He was a RUclipsr long before RUclips.

Thanks so much for that. I appreciate it. I go to a variety of places. And keep rolling like a tumbleweed 🤣

I know the tumbleweed thing. It’s interesting but can be lonely.

Let's all go to Chapman College...the library there has his collection ! It's great ! RIP
Huell is a National Treasure, loved his shows. If you get the chance, go see the Chapman College in Orange CA's Huell Howser Museum. It's truly AMAHZING
It sure is! I have a few videos on it here on my channel. Thanks for watching!
Thattzzz Ahmayzzinggg!!!!
I remember huell from Nashville Tennessee. I believe that is where he started his career
It is! Jew was also a Marine and I think that may have brought him to CA
This is another fine example of California's gold
Love it!
Good old Huell Howser, I shook his hand at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. He came and gave us a speech, I believe about his life.
That’s awesome!
I still have to make my way to the “Volcano House” out that way. Sounds cool!
You are correct. Huell did pass away at his home at 2:35 am on 1/7/2013.
👏🏻👍🏻
No way! I haven’t been up there in some time but have been thinking about revisiting that whole area. I’ll definitely check it out now, thanks Rory!

You're welcome!
If you go, I hope you get a chance to visit the WigWam Motel on Route 66.
The Patel Family have worked hard to restore this historic landmark. The even hired me to restore the iconic Zigzag patterns on each Teepee.
