- TV clip from a 1987 interview Michael Jordan had with 60 Minutes. Diane Sawyer interviewed Jordan. The interview was taped on January 18, 1987. In this clip, he talks about his life before he was an NBA basketball player, when he was in high school. Amazingly, at some point in high school he was actually cut from the high school varsity basketball team! I will try to upload more of the interview, but the vhs tape from which I obtained this footage was in pretty bad shape, so parts of the interview aren't easily viewed, but this part was in good shape.

Forreal though sometimes being bullied and pick on can make someone do crazy things but instead Jordan took it out with basketball.
He was picked on at school, then would go home and whenever he'd play with his brother in sports, his brother would always get the best of him.

Everytime they talk about jordan getting cut from the varsity team. They never mention that he was a sophomore trying out for varsity but because of limited roster spots and him only being like 5”11 as well but he still made the jv team and still averaged over 22 points a game a couple of 40 plus games that year. Then shot up to 6’3 the next year as 11 grader and the rest is history but it sounds better to say he was just cut so people will think he didn’t play that year and had to come back the next year

Enough of the crap that Jordan "didn't make the basketball team" and he "got cut". That's a myth to make his legend larger. He just did not make the varsity team and played JV. As a sophomore. How about the kids who didn't make either and had no place to play at all? Gets me livid every time I hear the sob story of how he "did not make the team". He made the team, the JV team.
Uncle Lido Actually, its pretty big. All the college basketball players I know from my High School started varsity from Freshman year. Most kids who start in JV barely make college. Of the majority of college players, they do not make it in the pro. So its pretty huge he didnt make the Varsity his sophomore year.
Nah it is common to see sophomores on varsity teams and to think the GOAT didnt is a big deal
