"Young me."
"Old me."
Now that's how you handle a paradox.
Eh, he's a Duck. He's used to being a magnet for weirdness.
He's Scrooge McDuck voice by The Doctor.
Time paradoxes are daily routine!
@@FabriSlv OMG LOL
Take that Power rangers Dino charge.
Della DID say meeting Dewey was the fourth weirdest thing that's happened to them on Christmas.
I almost spat my drink out the first time I heard the "young me." "old me." line. We may not have gotten a Doctor Who Christmas special this year, but that singular line more than made up for it! I also had to pause and take a laughing break when Scrooge was grumbling about time travelers. Whether these are intentional nods to Doctor Who or not, it's still endlessly entertaining that they're writing these lines for David Tennant. He's the perfect successor to Alan Young (no one can fully replace him).
Niki Groeger I couldn’t stop laughing, either; the irony of Scrooge grumbling about time travellers in the voice of David Tennant is just too funny. I swear I replayed the Scrooge-centric time travel moments several times over just to get the laughter out of my system and continue with the episode.
Now that we have an example of time travel in this DuckTales universe, I wonder what would happen if the Tenth Doctor accidentally got himself stranded in DuckTales and came upon Christmas Past’s temporal mess (Scrooge meeting his past self would have to cause some sort of paradox), or if he found Della on the moon...somebody get on a fanfic or audio play!
That was great. They were just so casual about it.😆😆😆😆
Pokelolmc well there was a short with a time travel clock so...🤷♀️😉
Pokelolmc I’m on it (eventually)
Welk serves you right for drinking during a comady show.
Fun fact: jack mcbrayer also voiced the wendigo and I thought that was pretty scary
Woah! I didnt know he had that range XD
The wendigo from supernatural?
LeviFangirl 308 no, the one in this episode.
Every time the ghost of Christmas past spoke I could only hear Wander from "Wander Over Yonder". I never though that he could ever sound so intimidating
Not really intimidating but a little unnerving
yeah because Christmas past, wander (wander over yander ),and fix it Felix (wreck it Ralph) are all voiced by jack mcbrayer
ΝΙΚΟΣ ΝΙΚΟΣ I heard fix it Felix XD
@@Hexmari me too XD
Kenneth
My favorite part was when Scrooge popped in at the end and did the "pogo-cane-bounce" off of the baddie like in the NES game.
Right? I noticed that too. That was an awesome reference.
Jesse Waldack Classic Scrooge, hope they can do a game based off the DuckTales Reboot sometime.
CuriousUserX90 I kinda want to do that.
Himalayas intensifies.
It actually make sense Donald would be obsessed with music as a teenager, consider the fact he later joined the Three Caballeros in college
I see the Ghost of Christmas Past as a very relatable character. He's that genuinely nice person who hardly means harm and usually wants nonmaterial things, such as good friends; however, he comes off as irritating and mentally/emotionally drains everyone around him. When you try to get him off your back, he completely loses it and assaults you through any means possible. To make matters worse, if you try hostilely stopping his aggression, he'll progressively gets worse. As important as it is for people like the Ghost of Christmas Past to remain the bigger man, sometimes the best strategy is killing them with kindness.
...relatable?
What you just described it incredibly abusive.
This kinda ignores the fact that Past was genuinely a good guy who had to put up with his own issue of being constantly abandoned for centuries. He only resorted to being a "villain" because he reached his breaking point with said issue. And his villainy didn't end with him being 'killed with kindness', he was given what he so desperately needed.
I agree with the speech impediment theory, it fits percectly with the rebel and angry but at the same time insecure tween version of Donald. I supose that in some point he had to confront the fact that his voice would be harder to undestand and the grunge served as a way to express his anger and take advanage of his voice before the "change" happens.
Also, theres a clear reference to the fact that Della and Donald distanced, an her effords to spend time with his brother werent effective, as a sister she is aware of Donald situation and tried to help maybe multiple ocations. So their reconsiliation at the end of the episode is more important that it seen.
I'm a bit surprised with your intro you didn't comment on two things in Scrooge's story. 1. Christmas Past is based on Jiminey Cricket the Christmas Past from the Disney Christmas Carol. 2. The location he takes Scrooge at the end is location of the first comic appearance. Having the show reference BOTH of Scrooge's first appearances.
TransGamer Girl that’s a really cool fact I didn’t know about for the second fact
They even had a movie called "A Christmas On Bear Mountain" when the movie list came up
There's way more I wanted to say but there just wasn't enough time to include everything. The amount of references and callbacks in this episode are overwhelming!
@@seaniccus you could always come back to it later during a lull between episodes and/or seasons and do a top ten (ish, depending on how many there are) favorite references in the new show (that you haven't already mentioned) to catch up on some you missed for whatever reason.
TransGamer Girl Even the credits of this Christmas episode makes you have serious Mickey's Christmas Carol vibes.
When Donald and Dewey are captured in the net, Donald calls Della 'dumb Della'. Della was also known as Dumbella in some early cartoons!
I LOVE that the original triplets actress voiced young Donald. May she rest in peace for the joy she brought us.
Did anyone else think the Wendigo was Krampus at first? I sure did. This was without question one of the best episodes of this show thus far. Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year, everyone.
I was not only hoping it was Krampus, but also provide an explanation to Scrooge's animosity towards Santa Claus.
Honestly the first thing I thought was that it was the Ghost of Christmas Past, they even showed the very same location for Scrooge and Donald!
@Kevin McDougall That's what I remember.
@@e-mananimates2274 Which seriously needs to be explained if you ask me XD
@Kevin McDougall Another christmas episode or a trip to the northpole?
This show is just so unbelievably unrealistically good, I can't wrap my head around it. This was the perfect episode.
The Ducktales Christmas Special was one of my favorite episodes of Ducktales!!! I even like the nod to Mickey's Christmas Carol with the end credits!!!
R.I.P. Rossi Taylor
You're now with your talented husband as well.
Ducktales just keeps getting better and better!
I appreciate the way crew of DuckTales for subverting our expectations of how Scrooge would personally feel about the Holiday would play out. And I also love how they had Russi Taylor, who played the Triplets in the OG DuckTales, to voice Young Donald here.
One of the highlights. My kids were a little confused at first as we also have the original series on DVD.
@@kimp7160 Lol!
Sadly, this was the last time she did voice acting before she died.
I can relate to how Donald goes from normal voice to quack-tastic as an adult.
Growing up in Cleveland two of my friends didn't have accents. But between middle school and collage they some how became Southern and British.
I don’t know how I feel about Donald being an emo kid,but this episode was really good.
He's a grunge kid
@@Lesbomarx forgive him as he's probably to young to remember grunge
That's grunge kid to you pal :P
I would love to know why Scrooge hates Santa 😂
Considering the presents I got this year - I hate him as well... wait.... I didnt mean that... next year I will get even less. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I did find it a refreshing change that Christmas past? Wonder VA was voicing a villain character for once even if he was redeem at the end!
I recognised one of the voices: the person who voiced the nephews from the original show 😁 (note: my first experience with Ducktales was the movie so I recognised that voice IMMEDIATELY)
Seeing this again shortly after hearing young Donald’s actor just passed away.....
😢😢😢😢😢
Well, it’s a great final farewell
I'm not sure if anyone else knew this, but this is not Jack McBrayer's first time as a baddie. He played the villain in a made-for-TV movie of a PBS Kids show (Weird Tom in Odd Squad: The Movie, if anyone is curious).
Kimberly Norris Cool
7:16- wait, the voice of the ghost of christmas past is also voice of wonder?! Omg how did I not notice this before.
Aw man, you just made Donald’s voice sound so sad. But yeah that makes a lot of sense.
Here’s to 2019, I’ll see you later Sean.
hey I jumped into the show a couple days ago, and two things from me: this has been my favorite episode of Ducktales so far, and young Donald and Della give off such Dipper & Mabel energy
5:26 This kind of reminds me of the idea that lead to the "Back to the Future" trilogy - one of the guys who wrote it found an old photo of his dad as a teenager and was left wondering "If we'd been the same age at the same time, would we have been friends?"
Wait a second if Donald Duck was a kid in the 90s exactly how old was Scrooge's sister when she had him?
Has anyone noticed the wendigo is a pun? It’s the ghost of Christmas past, who keeps making time travelling jokes, and when the wendigo says what he wants, he says “when did he go scrouge” because the ghost of Christmas past is desperate to find out when scrouge travels after stealing his umbrella
This was a fun episode. Love the twists and turns that happens throughout and the ending was perfect.
I LOVED Emo Donald.
Well, I loved everything about this episode, but Donald and Della the most. I feel like Della and Webby would bond instantly in this version. They almost have the same personality, only Webby is just a tad more awkward than Della is. I always love to see more character development for Donald, even if we already have so much. :D
This episode made my cry :"), is fantastic, special and really nostalgic. Thanks for your amazing videos.🦆
Well, I finally got caught up on Ducktales! Anyone know when we're gonna get new episodes?
This episode was so special to me . It made so many great call backs to the older version of the triplets and even beyond . I like how they pay homage to a Mickey's Christmas Carol and the world other than the duck universe.
What a great Christmas episode and I loved seein Della both as young duck and on the moon still working on that rocket
Am I the only one who notices that younger Della bares a striking resemblance to Webby in both looks and personality? Does that mean Webby would end up just like Della when she gets older?
i've been waiting for this review because to me, last christmas is one of the best christmas episodes of any show ever.
1- I thought the “emo kid” was Della at first 😓
2- launchpad singing is what I needed to hear
Wonderful as always!
McBrayer was also in 30 Rock tv series!
Charles DICKENS wrote a Christmas Carol. Charles DICKENSON never wrote more than his signature.
This was the best christmas episode of anything ive ever seen!
Happy new year.
this was so much fun to watch the Ep was so awesome.
2019 Duck Tales coming soon .
Fun fact, Humbug is an old way of saying Bullshit.
Happy holiday and happy new year! I love watching your video they truly bring me joy to watch!
this is an episode where I need an Easter egg guide though.
Happy New Year's Eve Sean!
I'm more impressed that pastScrooge wasn't fazed by presentScrooge or the ghosts.
justin fwibber Young Della did say that this was the 4th weirdest thing that happened on Christmas.
After this video was made, Jack McBrayer went on to voice Toadie from Amphibia
I loved the we are the mcducks this is the third weirdest thing to happen to us
Little Katipunero you are right thanks for the correction it is the 4th weirdest Christmas thing
You have a wonderful holiday season and happy New Year’s my friend
After reading comments I gotta watch this episode again, lol, I missed so many references not having this knowledge of the older stuff before. :D
Nice video. Hope you make a video about the latest Sonic Mania Adventures episode soon. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
I just came up with a theory (because I'm not sure if it's a reference to a preexisting matter) on why Scrooge holds a grudge against Santa Claus. When Santa became associated with Christmas was the early 20th century, if I remember correctly. Just after Scrooge capitalized from the gold rush. Santa probably talked Scrooge into investing in his workshop and the first time of Santa giving out presents. However, since it was a business loan, Scrooge expected to be paid back at some point, and still hasn't been paid back. Long story short, Santa owes Scrooge money.
Happy New Year Seaniccus Great Video 🎆🎈🎊🎉🎆😉
So we're not gonna talk about how Scrooge apparently has some kind of beef Santa?
Actually, I can understand Donald BETTER as the series goes on.
Also, so there's a movie about Christmas on Bear Mountain in the Ducktales universe? Cool!
I love this episode 😍 Wooo!
Best episode of the season so far, by far.
Happy New Year
they continue to nail Ducktails - this episode I was laughing like a mad man :) I
*Hears donalds young voice. Begins contorting from nostalgia.* Oh god the nostalgiaaaaaahhhHH!!!
I COINCIDENTALLY watched Christmas Carol that very day, THEN I went to the on Demand & saw this episode. I had NO idea swear to God.
Happy New Years Sean ^_^
Also I read the trivia for this episode here are two references and o the comic. One is a man showing scrooge square eggs from the Himalayas a reference to the original comic story. Another is a old sea captain duck that usually ferries the ducks on their adventures. One reference I noticed is a throw back to 80s DuckTales where we see Grandpa Blackheart beagle crashing the party. The main beagles assisting him resemble the original main beagle boys. You Bankjob, Babyface, and Bugle who appeared in the original DuckTales. There is also brainy who makes nameless cameo
I loved this episode
I am a bit surprised that you didn't mention us about Beakley and the ghost of Christmas future first meeting each other and getting along well
That's probably because it's not too important to even mention it. I guess.
I saw Mickey's Christmas Carol as a kid, thinking Ducktales was a continuation of that story... Then the reboot pays homage to it. I was tickled pink by this episode.
I would pay good money to see Russy Taylor's reaction when she learned not only was she voicing young Donald, but agnsty young Donald.
I always I thought Scrooge's first appearance of scrooge was Disney Christmas carol.
I think the first animation of scrooge was the 1967 "Scrooge McDuck and Money". I suppose it was part of an episode of the Disney TV show. He had the Scot accent from the start. Look for it on RUclips.
**Sees the title**
"Last Christmas I gave you my heart."
Pretty nice episode it had been. Brainy Smurf and Clumsy Smurf united (though Huey never interacted with the Ghost of Christmas Past), it’s nice that though Russi Taylor has retired from voicing the Triplets and Webby, she was able to voice of Younger Donald, it was even nice to finally see the Beagle Boys Babyface, Bankjob and Bugle (though they did not speak in this episode), not to mention with seeing Scrooge use his cane as a pogo. It was odd though in the Flashback to see that Mrs. Beakley was Scrooge’s Butler even when Duckworth was alive, and that Della in the end was without Space Gear in the moon (the Mickey Mouse universe does not defy that logic as we’ve seen characters in the Mickey Mouse universe (even Scrooge himself) be out in space with space gear before), maybe she has oxychew with her.
There were about a half dozen easter eggs in this episode, and you mentioned one of them, namely the presence of Beagle Boy names from the original series, presumably the Previous Generation. What I've seen no one mention here has been the old Beagle bossing them around. That HAS to be the Ducktales version of "Blackheart Beagle", or Grandpa Beagle, the first Beagle enemy of Scrooge, from 1957. You can see him updated in Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.
Another Easter Egg was young Donald using the mean nickname "Dumbella" for his sister Della. This addresses the fact that over the years she's been referred to as Della, Thelma, and Dumbella. Well the last one at least has been folded into this continuity now.
Mrs Beakley has never been Scrooges butler, she's his housekeeper. But she didn't start out that way, she was Secret Agent 22, Scrooge's partner when he was a free-lance agent for the same agency. Notice that when we see her dancing, the crowd is yelling 22! 22!. I doubt she was even working for him yet at that point.
As for the habitability of the moon, either Ducktales universe's moon has a breathable atmosphere, or the crater she's in has a pocket of trapped or generated air. There are precedents for that: Fantastic Four's Blue area of the moon (created by the Kree), and Dick Tracy's Moon Valley (since become uninhabitable)
Now they just need Terry McGovern to voice Launchpad’s dad and my life is complete.
jack mcbrayer has played a douchey character before in despicable me as a carnival vendor.
This special was the best
This episode is my 2nd favorite episode of Season 2. #1 is still my favorite episode of the series, The Most Dangerous Game...Night.
I have to say, it's weird for me to hear Jack McBrayer, known for playing impossibly nice/lovable characters like Kenneth Parcell from 30 Rock, Fix-It Felix Jr. from Wreck-It Ralph, and Wander from Wander Over Yonder, play a more antagonistic character in this way. He just has such a nice, friendly affect to his voice, it's hard to imagine his characters with any sinister or bad intent...
By the way, I love Mickey's Christmas Carol, while it might not be the most faithful adaptation of Charles Dickens most famous work, it always really gets to me in a way that most other adaptations don't. It's funny, though, the special was meant to be a return-to-form for Mickey Mouse (hence MICKEY'S Christmas Carol), yet the star is obviously Scrooge McDuck, who honestly was still just a fixture of the comics by that point. I doubt many people would have known who Scrooge even was if it weren't for this special and DuckTales. I also love that the Ghosts seen in this episode are clear references to the ghosts of that special; a cricket who's not Jiminy is Past, a pig (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke who also voices Patrick Star in Spongebob Squarepants) is dressed like Willie the Giant as Present, and future has Pete's wardrobe as well. It's also funny to see that Scrooge is actually okay with Christmas as a whole EXCEPT for Santa Claus, which also serves as a call-back to the Neverrest episode in season 1.
It can actually be a good thing when seasons of the DuckTales Reboot takes months off, hopefully the wait for the remainder of Season 2 won’t be as long though (again that’s not what a hiatus is by taking months off especially as that’s happened many times with shows over the years, hiatus refers to a show neither cancelled or being worked upon much like with what happened with Phineas & Ferb). I actually find it best when Disney Shows’ seasons don’t get themselves over and done with and have the wait for the next season to not be several months after the previous finished up.
But what’s Scrooge’s beef with Santa!!
I can only speculate.
But I have a theory that Santa tried to make a business deal with Scrooge (perhaps something involving funding for a bigger operation?) and it fell through because even the Richest Duck in the World (tm) can't pay for toys for children ALL over the world.
Or he wanted Scrooge to be Krampus and Scrooge just isn't that cruel.
Curt Clark, that’s the best theory I’ve heard so far.
He ate scrooge's cookie he talks about it in his sleep in season 1
Gotta save something for next Christmas special.
When I heard the voice of young Donald Duck I geeked out there
Binge watching these videos when you said russi Taylor I almost cried
I think I pronounced her name wrong!
This was made months before we lost her, though. Sad to see her go.
Seaniccus I think you said it right
Well, I guess the Ducktales Reeboot like to have all the Wander Over Yonder cast in the series
That was actually Frank's idea, he wanted the main 4 to be on the show, since he was also the story editor of Wander Over Yonder back in the day
A bit late for me, don’t know how, but apparently I’m in the future now.
The question is still, why does Scrooge hate Santa Claus so much? What happened?
When are they going to release a complete season 1
You also missed the closing credits done in the original style.
I wish I had enough time to talk about everything. Those were pretty amazing.
Do u know when the next ducktales ep comes out?
So many things to talk about but i'm going to go with the first thing that comes to my mind. What did you think about the Future-x-Beakley moments? XD
Past looked better as a Wendigo.
Finally
I somehow watched this episode today. Yeah! Weird timing. But I sudden wondering... who did the artworks of the Credits? Because some of the art styles remind me of Giorgio Cavazzano.
RIP Russi Taylor
When is it coming back though?
does anyone know why they used a strange version of "12 Days of Christmas" it's not like disney to cheap out (if they did, which I doubt) been trying to find out why they used that strange messed up version but I can't find anything. I know launchpad sang it and I thought he just messed up but everyone begins to sing HIS version like its well known... so is that the version that is accepted in the ducktales universe... or did they practice it? Cause they just got there, right? So how would they know launchpad's version?
I want to see more kid Donald and kid della
I flipped my shit when I heard young Donald
The voice made me cry to be honest...
But when did donald's speech get worse?
Edit: you addressed this after I commented lmao
When'd he go?
