- Today we are going to go through the family tree of Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, and Huey, Dewey and Louie! From the Coot kin to the Duck family to Clan McDuck, we are going to go through all of the significant ancestors that shaped their descendants. So let’s jump into classic comics, Walt Disney cartoons, DuckTales, and The Legend of the Three Caballeros, and discover how they are all related and the epic history of this family!

It seemed to me, reading a zillion Disney comics as a kid, that everybody was everybody else's uncle (or aunt, niece, nephew). Donald kept running into obscure "Uncles" (like Moby Duck), Daisy had nieces, Mickey Mouse had nephews . . . But Goofy had a son. That always amazed me.

Well, given that he is not around when Della takes the Spear of Selene and nobody ever even mentions him, I think he was never really a part of Della's life. His whole purpose was siring children. In fact, he might have just been a sperm donor and never even met Della in person.

They finally showed Della. So it’s not impossible for them to at least give us a name of the father. Just give a simple “he died before Della laid the eggs” would be good enough.

It’s far more confusing than this really since all comic artists have had their own ideas. But the Barks character are established and Rosa build on that. And this video added some stuff from new Ducktales like Donald and Della going to adventures with Srooge before the kids were born.

I don't know. For all we know, given Della's tendency for recklessness, it could be possible that even SHE might not know who he is. Personally, in spite of how unlikely it is the writers would go that route, I like to suspect Daffy Duck could be the father. It would certainly add an extra layer between Donald and Daffy's feud in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

I know people are not gonna believe me on this but come on, judging by the clues on the show, isn't a BIT more implied that they don't have rather than they do? I mean, how is that so hard for people to figure that out? If the triplets really do have a father, then don't you think he should have AT LEAST been on the family photo? Or Della Scrooge and Donald should have AT LEAST mentioned him by now? It's already been a while since Della had returned to the moon and no one hasn't mentioned anything about him yet. However, dure I could absolutely be wrong, maybe they could STILL mention him in a future episode but I feel if they do, then that's probably it. There is not going to be a mystery about him nor are we ever going to see in real life because why do the writers need to? I think the triplets' are already happy with the family they have right now.

@@theumpireofthebottomlesspit imo, since the original source for the ducktales family, the don-rosa version family tree, doesnt mention the trio's father name, the ducktales reboot writer dont wanna risk that by adding an impacful non-canon information.
Plus, in my 12 years (not thorough tho) collection of donald's weekly comic and Scrooge's tales and adventures, there's no one episode or even one panel that mentions/foreshadowing the trio's father. So i can guarantee you the father's look and even info its still a mystery from beginning

I think in a way Webby and her friends are subs for those three and mirrors for the boys. Huey and Violet as level-head scouts. Louie and Lena as cynical family rebels. Dewey and Webby adventurous dreamers. So, where would you fit April,May and June in that world?

The Duck/McDuck/Coot family sure is a legendary group of ducks. From Clan McDuck being restored by Scrooge and becoming the richest duck in the world to his nephew, Donald, being a war veteran, father figure to his nephews and one of the most powerful magic users in the world (if we can use his Kingdom Hearts version).
I've noticed that the Ducktales reboot seems to enjoy using established characters from the Don Rosa and Carl Barks family tree (which my nerdy duck heart loves), but I think it's important to keep in mind that even though they share the names and looks with the comics versions, they may not be the same characters. Matilda and Hortense DID travel with young Scrooge in the "Life and Time of Scrooge McDuck", but this week's episode, which introduced Matilda to the series, kinda hinted to that this may not have happened in the reboot. Also, in the comics, Scrooge's dad is incredibly supportive and sweet (as well as deceased), and Scrooge's goal is to become the richest duck in the world (and despite enjoying treasure hunting, the financial gain was always the official motivation for his travels).
I loved this video nonetheless! I love the absolute passion when talking about the different family trees and how they're all connected. (^-^) I am a comic book lover at heart, but I can appreciate the Ducktales reboot for what it is without comparing i too much with the comics. ❤

Okay to make it short Scrooge's father was sweet and supportive but he also had his downsides which that's where Scrooge got his selfishness from and also yes Matilda and Hortense did stay with Scrooge for a while but once they grew a little older they decided to have their own adventures and instead Scrooge had his with his grandchildren and yes the original DuckTales takes place in Huey Dewey and Louise childhood which they sadly don't remember that much of and yes did reboot of DuckTales takes place in the future where Donald finally reunited to his uncle and also with his sister
When I was young I loved the comics about the clan McDuck and life of Scrooge (honestly idk how this series was called) so it would be great to revisit their history!

Daisy Duck actually has a brother (or so I heard) and it’s said that Della Duck and and Daisy’s brother got together and had Huey Dewey and Louie. Though I don’t know if it’s true, it’s a pretty fun theory to think about!
I'm just now imagining, after the introduction of Della Duck in DuckTales 2017 and her whole determined and passionate attitude and approach to life, what kind of duck won her heart so hard, that their love for each other resulted in mothering/fatherin the triplets Huey, Dewey and Louie. What kind of Duck is their father and Dellas husband? It's something I'd love to see and experience in the new DuckTales show. I bet it's one great tale to tell.

Things to add:
People suspect that Drake Mallard (aka Darwing Duck) is related with the McDuck family because Molly Mallard, Scrooge's Grandmother!!!
In France and Italy they love Donald and we have comics with characters that were only seen in Europe and Disney took a lot of time to accept, like Fethry Duck, there were a lot of critiques when Rosa added him in the family tree.
Also, Rosa was known to want all the Disney Ducks be related one way or another (except Daisy Duck) and that is why people suspect Molly Mallard is from Drake Mallard's family.
Also, Duck family, according the comics, are known to have some powers and really bad luck except for Daphne Duck who was born with a lot of luck that her son Gladstone Gander got!!! Fethry Duck is known in the European comics to have strange powers!!!
Donald is the Disney character with the biggest family!!!
Quackmore and Hortense got their children when they were old and in some comics and family trees Matilda McDuck married Ludwing Von Drake (the crazy duck scientist) but this has to yet be canon!!!
Also, Ludwing Von Drake is Donald's uncle, in old cartoons indicated he comes from Donald's father family, but not sure which branch of the family!!!
I prefer the idea he married Matilda!!! Also, in many europeans comics, Scrooge has a twin brother who is gentle, an older sister who died and left her money to her cat, a younger brother who is a journalist and a not nice half-brother!!!
I have to say the new ducktales makes me extremely happy. I grew up with Don Rosa's (and many more but mainly Don) comics about the duck family. And I seriously cannot believe that the new ducktales has so so many references to those comics. Sometimes it feels like watching the life and times of scrooge Mc duck as an animated show.... With stylistic and more modern changes (since the comic features some offensive depictions) of course but in my opinion the spirit is there! And that makes me so so fricking happy.
I will definitely watch the three Caballeros and the old ducktales as well.
I hope we get to find out who huey,dewey and louie's father is,they have this opportunity in ducktales to reveal him,they did an amazing job with della's story,so I'm hoping we'll find out more characters that's been a mystery for years and years and years
In nature and I may be wrong but doesn't a female just have to lay a egg and it's the male that just sits on it and fertilizes it.. because Donald did sit on the eggs at one point

This was very well researched and you did a very good job 👏 telling this story. I never asked where Donald’s temper, but turns out it was from his parents. Very interesting 🤔 how the Mc. Duck Family were always the toughest of the tough. Good work on Uncle Scrooge’s sides too. Scotts are known to be tough so it’s cool they wrote it. Very well done Isaac as usual. Nice shirt too.

When they name drop the dad’s name,everyone is gonna freeze and go silent.(like the white diamond name drop) everyone in the shows heart will stop and who knows maybe time will freeze.
It’s possible that the dad is the main villain of the show and he is so evil that Della doesn’t even let her kids know what a dad even is.

The most confusing part of the family tree is probably the placement of Ludwig Von Drake (or the lack thereof). Walt Disney originally planned for him to be the brother of Donald's dad, but this has since been retconned. Don Rosa has stated that he intended Ludwig to be the husband of Matilda McDuck, but it is still left ambiguous.

I think it is interesting that so many names of the characters change depending on the language. For example Huey, Dewey & Louie are named Tick, Trick and Track in my language and Gladstone is named Gustav (the name his father has in english)

I recently found out that the McDucks had a royal ancestor named Scrooge Shah, whose city of Sagbad was invaded by Khan Khan in the 3000s BCE. His heir apparent was Donduk, who I guess is the ancestor of the McDucks. Another fact I learned was that while in Scotland, the McDucks were known as the MacDuichs.
That’s one interesting family!!!

My brother had many of Don Rosa's Lifetime of Scrooge McDuck series, if not all.
They were some of the best reads during childhood. Yet also puts into perspective how immortal some of these ducks are.

Disney should've chose the McDuck clan as their flagship characters instead of the bland generic Mickey Mouse.

Here are two facts about the clan McDonald's and two facts about a Donald's family number one the clan mcduck's although they were nights and a part of the army but they were poor number two and able to build castle McDuck the queen of Ireland and the Queen of Scotland would have to give them permission since you know back then building and owning a castle was expensive and they didn't have enough money two the queen of iron Man and Scotland gave him permission to build a castle which is now known as Castle McDuck which of course the ancestors build now here's some facts about Donald's family number one's father who is Dellas husband is actually Daisy sister number two the duck family is full of Truth and lies yep when Donald was young it was said that Scrooge was the father until when he was a bit more over also it was said that Della was a cousin to Donald duck or McDuck
