Goichi Suda's work for Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special didn't just shock me. It also intrigued me because when I first heard of the shocking ending, it left me with questions on how and why it happened and that's what brought me further into the Fire Pro lore.

The best part imo is the cut from the ending victorious music at the end to just silence and then quickly a gunshot. It really accents the sudden feeling of a suicide where it can seem to come from nowhere, even from very monetarily successful people. Great stuff.
You should really have The Immortal on here. It was on NES and Sega Genesis, and it has battles that are quick and always end in a crazy scary fatality. The main character is a powerful wizard so he can kill enemies in graphic and astonishing ways.
Thank you for making this video. It introduced me to a few games I'd never even heard of before. I think the most shocking thing was realizing that Suda51 worked on a title with the same company that made Clock Tower... And it was a wrestling game. Absolutely incredible.
Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side for the Sega CD is a more intense version of the Sega Genesis version, with more blood, gore, and visually disturbing finishing moves. That version actually hits harder than the first three Mortal Kombat games.
Suda 51 really pushed the limits and was ahead of his time. I'm not sure a lot of American Press understood it but I hear from 4th and 5th hand accounts that the ending of the wrestling game was very controversial

退廃的で暗い作品が多く生み出された背景もあるらしいですね。
現役世代ですが、まさにそうです。有り得ないとは思いつつも皆どこかで99年に世界が終わると考えていたし、何も無かった時の安堵感も覚えています。だからなのか、コレ以降は徐々に明るい作風のものが増え、歌も平凡なJ-popが主流になりました
メジャーどころだとエヴァンゲリオンやもののけ姫がブームを巻き起こしていた時代。
リアルではオウム真理教事件なんかが世間を騒がし、諸々の余波で大人たちが若者のエネルギーを押さえ付けていた背景もあります。
それが氷河期世代の受難。彼らの魂の叫びがアニメやゲーム作品に投影されていました。
厳密にいうと終末ブームというのは95年ぐらいまでで、90年代後半というのは終末ブームというのはあまりなかったような…
これはオウム事件等のカルト系の事件があって、映像関係ではオカルトが軒並み自主規制になったんですよ(あとソ連が崩壊したのも大きい)。
で、ゲーム業界で90年代後半にこのあたりの設定がよくあったのは、80年代～90年代初頭にオカルトブームに触れていた世代が、
『共通の世界観としてゲームに持ち込んできた』のと『エヴァブーム』が合体したから…といえます。
70年代末からの、ゾンビ、幻魔大戦、ノストラダムス、北斗の拳、孔雀王、帝都物語、サイレントメビウス、僕の地球を救って…あたりの終末ブームからオウム事件が生まれて、
その余波みたいなものがゲーム業界に間をおいて残っていました。ある意味ゲーム業界の終末モノは二次創作に近いです。
その余波の中から、型月や那須きのこが出てきて今に至るわけですが(一時期、スピリチュアル系とかではやってたけど
昔のオカルト小説やオカルト漫画は、作者も読者もガチのスピリチュアル信者みたいな人が結構いましたが最近は少ないですよね。
まあ、あの当時の残党は今では、自然食品や反原発、陰謀論まわりによくおられます。
ちなみに今生き残ってる斯界の一番の大物は…美輪明宏さんじゃないかなぁ…

動画では紹介されていないけれど、64のドラえもんとのび太の光の神殿っていうゲームが子供の頃怖かったなあ。64特有の3Dグラフィックと妙にこもったようなSEのせいもあるんだろうけど、音楽とかも無駄に不気味な物が多くて本当に怖かった。キャラクター(のび太やジャイアン)が死ぬ時に「ママー」とか「母ちゃーーーん」って叫ぶのも子供心に暗い陰を落としたのを今でも覚えている。

It may be resentment that this tough protagonist uses all of his energy only for wrestling matches. That's what I would think if I were in her shoes.
