    Just used this video to replace the passenger side motor mount on my 2002 Altima. It went flawlessly! Nice work on the video. One thing I would point out is that you need a 10mm and 14mm deep socket. Thanks!

      Where can I find the instructions to do this to an Altima 02? The mechanic is saying he charging over $500 - I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty so if it's a task I see I can complete I'll give it a go. I changed my own oil , alternator and gas pump. I don't have any experience with mechanical work but if I see I can I will

    The bottom bracket bolts ruined my entire flow of the project, I forgot to grab a 14mm wrench for the bracket so I was unable to take the bottom bracket bolts off. Make sure you the 14mm wrench a regular socket won't fit! Thanks for the video huge help! Think I'll leave the back one for the mechanic lol

    Thanks for the great video. I am planning to change the transmission filter on my Altima 2003 but there is a beam blocking the nuts. Do you think by removing the transmission mount I'll be able to jack the transmission up enough to loosen the nuts and drop the pan?

    Great Video. I am a tech and have done that front mount on the ground and it was a pain. It is almost like the engine drops into the mount. I don't remember removing the bracket, but I did jack it up as high as possible and it fell out that way.
    As for people asking about the rear mount, baby steps. It is the most difficult and you will be doing most of it by feel.

    i didn't see in any of the other comments did if I missed it, my bad. how did you know that your transmission mounts were going bad was it just a vibration or clunking of some kind when shifting?

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  7 лет назад +1

      A mount that is broken or cracked can cause your engine move and rattle within the engine bay in an out of the ordinary fashion when pressing your brake and revving. Mounts don't have signs that they are going bad, they just crack or break and the engine starts to rattle.

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  7 лет назад

      If you have the mount bolt missing, that means someone who replaced them before didn't bolt it back on. The engine won't be going anywhere, nothing to be concerned about.

    Ok So I have to do one by one it seem ok for me jacking where the engine meet transmission it's better than oil pan which is scary to me :( Also I want to ask about the rear one I think you have 3 bolt 14 mm and there is 2 screws or bolts 8 mm how to take out those 8mm bolts and what's the procedure to take it off mean only to take out mount and avoid dissassemble of anything else

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  8 лет назад

      The mounts are only screwed to the chassis and the engine, so as long as you remove the screws on the rear motor mount, you shouldn't have to worry about disassembling anything that you don't want to disassemble.

    I notice all motor mount changing videos all show engine needing to be jacked up but how would you jack it up and get under the car being that jacking the engine won't raise the car? Would you have to jack up the car on the side of the mount you are changing and hold it with a jack stand and then jack up the engine a little to relieve pressure of the mounts? Just wanted to ask for some clarification

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  6 лет назад +1

      You can support the engine either on the oil pan or between the engine and trans. Not the place to jack the entire car, but light pressure on those areas will hold the engine safely. Mine wasn't jacked up on the side, just held the engine a bit from the floor.

    • @vicsamboncs
      @vicsamboncs 6 лет назад +1

      Jonny The Car Doctor thank you for you're response. Is there any need to raise the car before supporting engine or trans? Or can this be done from flat ground. I would figure doing so with the car itself raised already would only be difficult Bc the front end would be at an angle

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  6 лет назад +1

      It can be done from the ground, it's up to you. I found it was much easier with the car on the ground and the engine being supported.

    • @drlipon
      @drlipon 5 лет назад +1

      vicsamboncs, you can use ramp from walmart or harbor freight to raise the front end of the car. that make life so much easy and then can use couple scissor jacks one under oil pan and one under transmission pan. get the 3 ton scissor jack from harbor freight which has wide top and use 3”x5” block of wood on top. by using scissor jack you can adjust the height easily

      +Pedro Cruz You don't have to, but it's better to replace them all at once. If you only replace one, then the other old motor mounts can't distribute the weight as effectively and transfer it to the new one causing it to break sooner. If that makes sense.

    You don't have to remove the front mount bracket. It can be positioned to come out the bottom.

      Rafael Molina it’s easy. 5 bolts (three main bolts like the front mount, and two small bolts holding the bracket). Nothing special to it. It helped to get it out with at least one other mount loosened so the engine will raise about 1.5 inches. Good luck. 14mm, 17mm

    I don’t know why your rear cat plate is so easy to remove the one I have is horrible. I have to cut off the plate. That nut isn’t on the side it above right under that bolt below that engine mount. Why is that it’s also a 03 2.5

      Right? The others are easy and self explanatory. Everyone comes here for the rear and no one does it. Second video I've seen them conviently say it was"good". You can't tell me a main mount that's just as old and dry rotted is good.

    Great help! However, not much of it went as smooth as yours. Transmission bolt under that stupid metal block was a pure absolute bitch to get out. Spent hours on that. The front getting out was easy....back in...PAIN! Those damn lower bolts. Haven't tried the rear yet.

  • @michaelpeters6395

    Some good info, but he skips the difficult steps - the transmission side mounting mounting details were totally skipped, the issues of supporting the engine during the change outs was also not addressed. He spent more time showing how to hook up the battery then the removal and installation of the driver side mount. Also, skipped the rear motor mount.
    Using this video with some others does give a better profile of the challenges of changing out these mounts.
