It’s not that it did it in one day it’s been losing compression bro and every tim you tried to start it it took so long to start because it took that long to build up compression watch the video

68 Nissan repair videos! I can dig it! I learned that coolant answer from Diagnose Dan! He had one that the sensor said engine was hot when actually it had not run that day. So computer was not sending enough fuel for it to start cold. As for the no compression, i go with Sylvia's guess. Chain tensioner failure. So Sylvia has to call & break the news to the customer? As long as valves didn't hit pistons, it won't be too expensive. Timing chain set and install. Can't wait and see!

Just had this failure on a 2002 Altima...
Last Spring, hard starts every morning and anytime the car rested for more than 4 hours,
The problem went away on it's own, so owner assumed bad gas (filled up w/ tanker on the lot).
Fast forward to this spring, Valve Cover replacement (leaking Tube Rings flooding the SP Tubes).
Ran good for about a month, and then the Rando/Multi-Misfire code started hitting.
hard starts returned, but the oner said it started if he pressed the gas, and it would only happen every few days.
Then the next morning, No Start, Cranks and Cranks, tries to catch, the RPM needle would wiggle to 150-200 RPM but never actually fully turn over.
Thought it was the Fuel Pump / Pressure,
But Remembered the last time I was there, we heard the rapid click click click last spring of the timing chain tensioner.
The Clicking supposed stopped a month or so ago, right around before the hard starts returned.
Eventually because there was no tension, the chain started skipping and shifting the timing off slowly, and now it's likely far enough off, that it's not going to engage and running engine,
and likely damaged valves with the timing being off.
It wasnt compression more than the timing.
Also, the Headgasket shows signs of a leak.

If you don't have injector pulse, there are numerous reasons that could be.

2011 Nissan Maxima: Over the course of years before I bought the car from my sister the battery would randomly leave her stranded (or so she thought) but it's odd that the car would start just fine and after a short drive of perhaps three minutes and about fifteen minutes of her shopping the battery suddenly dies when she gets back in (her job and the store were very close so it was odd that it would crank once but fail less than 30 minutes later). I buy the car and change the alternator and the electrical connector for the alternator cause the plastic was brittle and broken, I did this cause the battery would randomly be drained after the car sat for weeks or sometimes only days. Car works fine for a few weeks (not driven regularly though) and I find the battery is still draining cause it's dead one day, but I charge it up . A couple of weeks later I got in the car and it cranked just fine but then after I put it in reverse all the warning lights come on and the engine wouldn't rev up in reverse. I put it in drive and the motor will rev up and move the car, put it back in reverse and get nothing. I buy a new battery and the car is cranking and working correctly, after a trip the battery and brake light start to flutter on and off but I make it home with no issues. Now the battery and brake light keep coming on but the car is working fine, though I note that if I rev the motor up I can make the light go out after a few times reving the engine. Opinion?
Maybe the alternator
Prop open your throttle body plate TWO (throttle wide open) for the best possible reading when running compression tests Disable fuel injectors and ignition coils.
That compression gauge looks skeptical. Starts at 30psi and doesn't move at all. The release valve is probably stuck open on gauge.
It does still show an accurate reading. but I hear what you're saying. Since this video, I went out and bought a new one.

Did you find the cause of the no start condition??
29:23 you can see that there was compression in all cilynders by looking at the air blowing out of the spark plug tunes when he cranked it. Your compression gauge is bad.
Even with a bent valve, with that much of an opening, you would still get fuel or whatever coming out of the cylinder. By the way, we did do this job, and it did jump.

@@craigberg2309 We have a video series on a 2007, and I believe they are close. If you go by the book, it will take around 7 to 12 hours, but our video series will cut the time to around 4 to 5 hours.

So I have a Nissan Altima 2005 ,2.5 4 cylinder. It will crank but no start , I’ve changed sparks coils , fuel pump , and my neighbor checked all fuses but no start. When we lifted up the seat to get to the fuel pump to check the wire going to fuel pump , when you turn the key to on his test light it would flash on then off immediately when they key turned to on . Please help
Just came across your page. My stepson bought 2002 Nissan Sentra gxe. Been running fine. Anyway he stops at store then wont start/crank. When i hooked my scanner up got codes etc. But it wont stay running unless OBDII is plugged in. I can use any OBDII dongle even if it's a blue toothunit not connected to reader. Any ideas??
Any idea 2003 nissan factory remote start acting up starts and dies right away. When I use key no issue starts and runs. I cleaned terminals and alil corrosion positive side but still same starts and dies. Any help

What happened with the timing?
Check the cat converter they are known to cause the issue. If the platinum is gone it's in the engine oil and Fry's the rings. But because its a Altima it has a recall on the 2.5 engines
L C does a recall mean I can take my Altima to the dealership and they would take care of it at no cost?
your right in a way but the Platinum would not be in the oil your exhaust does not suck it blows witch could cause it to clog the exhaust but i doubt that's the issue with this one

So i got my valve cover repaired about two weeks ago and my spark plugs and ignition coils repaired as well all new. It started perfectly fine then about 10 mins later i came home and went to leave again and it’s cranking but won’t start. Could that mean i have a bad ignition coil or spark plug? Would that cause it to lot start? What are some reasons that could be wrong since i have all new spark plugs ignition coils and a new valve cover?

Check the signal going to the coils to see if they are getting it. If they are, then the coils are no good, but if they are not, check your wiring and your computer.
yes they are brand new ignition coils and sparks plugs
and do you think my cam sensor is bad , cause I just changed the crankshaft sensor

I just check it and 2 and 4 are not getting any signal

Astral, obviously the problem's been fixed by now, but when I see that the compression gauge doesn't even quivering at all on any cylinder I would sure want to test the gauge on a known working cylinder on another car, or try another gauge before spending a lot more time/money looking looking into causes of absolutely NO compression on this puppy. You said customer reported this problem happened suddenly one morning after running the previous day. That doesn't sound like a compression problem. Please let me know what you found, if you don't mind. The suspense is killing me.

Had this happen to me and you'll know when it's going bad because when you start the engine you'll hear a plastic rattle which will go away once the car starts. You'll hear this rattle months before it actually goes but make no mistake these cars are known for weak chain tensioner and chains. shop wants $1400. plus if any valves are messed up etc on an already 16 year old car = not happening. Car only has 68,000 original miles.
You're right, and that sound goes for ANY vehicle with a tensioner that works off oil pressure.
I have a question.i have a Nissan Altima and it was running not no more.what happens is I bought it with a broken steering g column .the tilt is all broken the steering allows u to turn the wheels and still drive it.bht it's hella loose and it hangs down.now I was at friends house and we left to get something to eat and the car wouldn't start no more.all the lights turn on battery's good it just doesn't crank over or nothing .no noise.van someone help me please

Wouldn't really matter if it was loose, stretched, gears worn, or the tensioner. Either way, we have to take it all down and get a complete timing chain kit.

i was driving and i didnt have coolant in my radiator so i stopped and put coolant then i went to check my oil and i didnt have any so i went to the store and bought some and when i went to start it it did the exact same thing as this one there was oil in my first and fourth spark plugs what did you do to fix it?

@@keokicjadolpho2145 The first thing you have to do is replace your valve cover gasket, along with the spark plug tube seals, clean the plugs, put everything back together, and then try to start the car. Let us know what happens.

No, when you start it up it will burn it off, it might smoke for a few minutes. Or you can remove the spark plugs, hold some rags over the spark plug holes, have someone crank the engine over to push the oil out of there.

@@ThePonyboy50 It takes 3 things for an engine to run. Fuel, spark, and compression. Normally, when an engine will not start, you've lost one of the three. Listening to the engine crank and sounding like no compression, investigate this first. One could check fuel pressure, but with a compression issue, you're wasting your time.

No, that would only give it a misfire.
Great Video. Did you end up replacing the head gasket? My car wont start and I know I have a blown head gasket but I wasn't haven't issues starting it til recently. I previously replaced pretty much all my sensors and spark plugs and a faulty coil pack. I was thinking my fuel injectors might be clogged so I got some cleaner in the fuel but since it won't start properly it wont flow through it. Can a blown head cause the no start?

That's cool, Wake Forest is not that far away. According to the manual, it is an interference engine, but the chain did not break, so I believe the valves are still good. We will be sure to update this if anything changes.
j b this happened to my 3.5 altima 2005 timming chain skipped one day from trying to atart it during winter so it basically skipped timming so its not making any compression there for not allowing the car to start i paid 1700 just so they can drop the engine and replace the timming chain

When it doesn't start, you have to find out has it lost spark or fuel.
Ever fix your problem? I'm guessing fuel pump relay switch?

Most likely fuel pressure insufficient..Check/replace regulator,,filter then pump..in that order..

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima. It has been leaking oil so I took it to my boyfriends dad and he found out that my screw was loose, we got that fixed. Then, he put three bottles of oil in. Next day, my car cranks but won’t start. Can someone help?
After he fixed it did you notice anything on the way it drives, or did you see any lights on the dash come on.

I have 2 of these altima in my driveway, one has been dead 2 years (after I rebuilt the engine and suspension myself) the other is slowly dying, I'm expecting it do die any day now. Everybody on the internet is scream "crank sensors". I have a small bin full of these sensors, at least 8 of them including at least 2 genuine ones. At least for the 1st one, it's not that.
Yeah the jerseys just turn over then start sometimes and then to it takes five six times of trying to start it then it was start and then they would finally just died on you then you replace the crank sensor that's what mine is doing mine hasn't died yet mine turns over sometimes it starts on the second try first try sometimes it starts on the 20th it don't make sense neutral safety switch switch be changed I changed a lot of things I didn't know she had me inside out on these Nissan cuz it's 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5 S thanks man

If the oil pressure switch controls fuel, then yes, but it doesn't on this vehicle.
My 2005 Nissan Altima cranks but does not start, and I had the k sealer inside of it, but it was emptied out and also I had needed a new motor but thanks to the blue stuff used to seal in the cracks I don't need one ,but since the k sealer gasket has been emptied my car doesn't want to start up. It was fixed based upon sealing in the cracks also I had an radiator replaced inside as well ,can u please help me

Timing chain, but you might want to add oil to the cylinders first, to see if the compression comes back. If it does, let us know.

It seems you have a charging issue. Stop by your local auto parts and have them check it out.
