Imagining Arlo typing out the title of the video, “People Are Paying Good Money To Sleep With Pokémon” and almost hitting publish before realizing his mistake and changing it
Yeah, just that little motivation of extra rewards for getting in bed at least sorta on time, and encouragement to keep consistent to be able to befriend more different Pokémon, and the increase in events has been a big boost more recently, as well.
The best thing about the app is that it forces you to stop using your phone if you want your sleep to be registered. So that alone will help you fall asleep faster (as long as you're not using another screen like your switch)
people seem to weirdly forget Pokemon is a multibillion dollar global brand, not a "once in a while video game franchise" The games could stop existing and the brand would be fine. (In fact, I kinda think the Pokemon company would prefer the games didn't exist, because the main reason the games are developed the rushed way they are, is too make sure all the actual money making merch and media can be released regularly. I genuinely think there are execs in the pokemon company who resent being so dependant on gamefreak to actual make and design the pokemon themselves)
I've been playing pokemon sleep since day one and i havent spent a single cent. Its not perfect but its a nice little app that helps me get into a routine before bed which was one of my main issues with sleeping I could never commit to a bedtime. But oh boy, Gengar is sleepy oop that must mean its bedtime. A very silly thing to kick my mind in gear but you take what you can get Edit: oh yea! and one thing i found is that if you find a shiny, no matter how many points away from befriending that pokemon you are, any biscuit you give it maxes out its friendship points which is super generous and cool imo
The funny thing is that the "gameplay" of Pokemon Sleep isn't really about sleep. Sure, sleeping is an element of the gameplay but I've found myself more engaged by trying to find the right combination of Pokemon to put on my team to help my Snorlax grow as much as possible. Especially the cooking element. I've spent way more hours of my morning than I like to admit trying to find a good combination of Pokemon that will gather the berries and ingredients I need throughout the day than I'd like to admit. It feels wierd that a game like this has microtransations and subcrption services in the first place. But at least I can play it for free without missing out on too much.
I did find that pokemon Sleep did help me because the app encourages you to not pick up your phone, and to minimize tossing and turning. basically, while using the app i was focusing way more on just remaining still and falling asleep asap, which means I did. I found i fell asleep faster with the app, and in genral it helped my curve my overall impulse to check my phone while feeling "bored" trying to get to sleep. The one downside is I learned through the sound-recording app that I can sleep walk. which tbh is something I'd rather have not known about myself.
I really liked it, my only issue was that it took too long to complete tasks before I could go to bed. Some night it felt liked it took me 10-15 minutes of playing on my phone before I could get to the sleep function. Best part for me was the app waking me up within 45 minutes to make me less groggy.
My daughter catches two Pokémon per day brushing her teeth. Pokemon Smile is killer good for kids developing brushing habits. I like these little quality of life games.
Pokemon Sleep's biggest missed opportunity is not selling specially designed plushy sleeping toys that can connect to the app and do whatever. Those would have sold like hot cakes!
I used Sleep to legit monitor my sleep, for about 2 months. Within the first month i learned how the game actually worked, catching Pokémon... and i started getting really unhappy with it. It was frustrating. Catching Pokémon was tedious and difficult unless you bought the biscuits or whatever, and good luck catching an evolved Pokémon within a month if you're lucky. And i felt like i needed to log in 3 times a day to get anywhere. Eventually i realized it was actually making me kinda miserable, so i deleted it and kinda forgot about it until now. If people are enjoying it, that's great and i hope they continue. It was just not for me i guess.
Same experience here. Like, "Why am I getting on a sleep app at work?". It helped at first, but eventually I just started lying to it about when I was getting to sleep so I could advance further, so the sleep benefits faded away. Also I couldn't listen to music or podcasts as I fell asleep.
Honestly, it's been refreshing how Pokemon Sleep thanks its players with free stuff and good events and whatnot, instead of sneakily designing things to squeeze more money out of 'em like Pokemon GO. Hope you do try the game, Arlo! It's very chill, not requiring a ton of commitment or playtime outside of the first day's tutorial. And it's very much one you don't have to rush through, thankfully.
I play pokémon Go a lot, however I also play pokémon sleep for the last 9 months straight, completely free to play. The game is actually really soothing. You basically use your device or the Go plus plus to track your sleep. Then you wake up and you collect all of the ingredients and berries from your pokémon that you choose to be in your camp. your goal is to get the Snorlax power as high as possible within the sleep week. You check it throughout the day and your pokémon and your camp have collected ingredients and use that to make dishes for Snorlax to eat. It is 100% possible to get good at the game being free to play. It's also my new favorite way of shiny hunting.
You know, a part of me was gonna cynically say this app was just trying to ingrain the Pokémon brand in a younger audience to get them to want it more by forcing it into day to day life stuff, but realistically, this app appeals way more to adults who worry about sleep habits. So you win this round, Pikachu…
Just imagine HOW MUCH MORE REVENUE THEY WOULD MAKE IF THEY ACTUALLY MADE A GREAT CONSOLE GAME WITH THE SAME EFFORT AND WITH A GAME THAT ISN'T MISSING CUT CONTENT SOLD BACK AS DLC.
I do use it, but I see it more as an incentive to go to sleep and to wake up rather than a tool to "fix" my sleeping. There are bits of info about sleeping in general on it, but nothing mayor
I have to wake up at 4am. I use this app to wake up in the morning because if you exit the app, you have to wake up enough to enter the app to stop the alarm.
I installed pokemon sleep about a month ago. I am a f2p kinda person, it's not natural for me to pay money for mobile games, but I've enjoyed pokemon sleep. It's cute if a little laggy because it relies on wifi. But it definitely keeps me aware of my sleep schedule now that the summer holiday has started.
Arlo. It is never too late to make a full video on this 👀 I hope you get encouraged and hopefully make a few videos going into your own experiences with the app
Sleep is absolutely outrageously monetised. I mean, I don't play any other mobile games so I don't know what's considered "normal" but to start off the anniversary week Sleep introduced a new item: Ultra biscuit, gives 5 points of friendship (or 15 if the pokemon is hungry) when fed, costs roughly à $8. Depending on the pokemon you use it on one of these biscuits might not be enough to catch it and even if you do the stats are completely random so you might have essentially wasted your money. The every so often introduced bundles cost up to $50 each etc. It is totally playable as f2p thanks to the intended slow nature of the game as long as you don't get discouraged from not being able to catch something every morning but it certainly won't shy away from trying to trick you into making stupid business decisions first thing in the morning when you're not quite awake yet. Not to mention the fact that I've seen people justify them spending on it by thinking of it as a lifestyle product instead of a gacha with extra steps to the pulls. People say it's like a gym membership but for better sleep etc.
Installed it. Now to see if it's able to fix my sleeping schedule, because just this night I woke up twice after 2 hours each and on the third time I really wanted to punch myself unconscious, but needed to move out of bed for work.
I've played it for almost a year and it doesn't help you sleep if you're really invested in min-maxing and you wake up at 3am to optimize production lmao The game is not as simple as it seems and the community has the maths down to an endearingly obsessive nerdy level
I've been using Sleep since last October, and I love it! It is so so refreshing to play something beneficial that not once have I ever felt forced or pushed into spending any money!

I'm happy to say that I have never spent real money on this sleeping app. In fact, I don't use the diamonds a whole lot, I've been saving them up for a bit, might spend them when they eventually add mewtwo or mew to the game.
I got into it for a while, but then experienced a glitch that lost all my progress and couldn’t get it back (fortunately, I hadn’t spent any money on it). I thought about starting again from the beginning, but decided it wasn’t interesting enough to have go through all those steps each day to collect the rewards, and so didn’t bother.
I just wish it had integration with smart watches. If i have to pay like 70-80 bucks for that sleep function then it should allow me to play Pokémon sleep without needing a phone on my bed
I'm grateful you titled this as "alongside" & not "with" Arlo. Truly.

Thanks for preserving the original name, the title changed so I had no idea what the comments were talking about lol
Arlo chose this video title very carefully.

yeah probably took a few drafts, I'm imagining Kane realizing at the last second and franticly emailing Arlo to change the name

Or make him even better at it
unironically pokemon sleep fixed my sleep schedule so maybe there is something to it
Same here. It's super chill and as someone who plays Sleep and Go, Sleep is so much less greedy.
Yeah, just that little motivation of extra rewards for getting in bed at least sorta on time, and encouragement to keep consistent to be able to befriend more different Pokémon, and the increase in events has been a big boost more recently, as well.

Unless you use the Go Plus+ (which I do as I don't want to accidentally roll over onto my phone in the night), but that part isn't important to me.
Arlo: sleep is very important

Yeah, they've been like DeNA did with Masters in that they made the F2P still easy and not pushing you to pay money or the game becomes boring.
