I love this painting! I just joined the Art of Birds and having a great time with that! I I painted the male cardinal and working on the female. I got lots of compliments! I learned so much and it was fun!
@@JansenArtEducation The one thing I learned that you warned people about, is to not mix other brands of paint with the Heritage paints. I had a hard time getting the Burnt Sienna when I first started buying the Heritage paints so I used some that I had (Golden for the record) and it was a mistake. So I want other viewers to read this so they don't make the same mistake!! Happy to say I finally got the Heritage Burnt Sienna delivered yesterday. Teacher knows best!!!
Teacher David Jansen, tell you good news, last year I learned how to draw 🌺🌹 flowers from you in your videos, and now I will have an art exhibition soon, I drew lots of 🌺🌹 flowers used your ways you taught here ,thank you ,our great artist.our teacher.
Hi David. I watched up till your break, will watch rest tomorrow. Just wanted to say, yeah, I've had to experiment with the palette. HATE the "wet palette" as it made my paints watery. Yuck to using wet paper towels to put paint on as well. Your way is the way I've "discovered" on my own. I also have a very small palette that holds some paints, but I cut pieces of hard plastic to put over it as I work. I have a stay-wet palette that closes at all four sides, and I use this for the palette paper over night, etc. So, yeah. This is different. Horah for you showing us different things. Great, I'll watch rest tomorrow night. ❤
Beautiful! The old church architecture and the eucalyptus tree bark results are amazing. I really enjoyed this lesson. It brought forth old memories and was so moving that I’m now inspired to try painting a similar scene of an old church in the woods. Thank you!
Thank you! In Pennsylvania, due to the many trees, we were surrounded by hidden barns. It was like a treasure hunt! Now, living in the panhandle of Nebraska, we find weathered barns standing on open fields. Some upright and in use, some with a jaunty tilt! All giving us inspiration for the next painting! So glad you were able to join us in painting the Southern Church. More video lessons coming!😊
I always learn something new from you David! The architectural lines, the tree bark and the shadows are very important. Thank you for sharing your techniques!
Hi David, I'm still watching the video but I can already say: I like it very much. So far, I hesitate to paint buildings, but sometimes - like in this case - they make the painting so interesting (especially old houses), and you master that anyway as well. - Thank you for sharing, it's always a pleasure watching. 👋❤👍
I normally use your techniques you teach when I am painting but I might actually do a follow along of this painting, it reminds me of the little church my mom used to take me to, there were only about 20 people but anyone and everyone was welcome. When we started going they accepted us very graciously which is something I've found to be a rarity in organized religion these days. This painting (like all paintings in your videos) is just gorgeous!
Thank you so much David. This is an outstanding lesson and I am so appreciative of the time and instruction you put into these. I listen to every word and re-listen too. You never talk too much for me. There are so many gems in what you share. BTW, I have been curious about the painting of Jimmy Stewart you were doing and if you finished it. I had the pleasure of meeting him in the 90s. Wonderful and delightful person. I loved his poetry. Thanks again.
Yes, I did finish it. It is in the gallery. Going to keep it though...LOL. Came out wonderful. He was an amazing man. I am working on a new one of him and "Pie". Pie was his favorite horse in the movies. He rode him in 17 different westerns. Pie was a Sorrell and you will see him in all the westerns he did in the 1950's. Fun story between Pie and Stewart. Anyway I am just about to start a large painting of them for the gallery. 😀
Great video, David! I appreciate seeing how you develop different elements like this, e.g. buildings, trees, etc. I’m really learning a lot from these videos plus your classes! Thank you for sharing so much!
Beautiful painting, just wished I could of seen you paint the most important part of the Church , the Cross. 😞 You are an amazing painter and teacher. God bless you!
I can say your painting is very beautiful, every little detail such as tree shadow, roof, sky are painted by you so beautifully that I can't take my eyes off. But unfortunately I couldn't see the pencil sketch at the beginning of the video, I think I will learn something from this picture.
Me again. Got to see this to final. Great. I love the tree as well as the building. Yeah. Wondering, since you said something at the end will you be doing barns at some point. Would love to see your techniques, as always. 💞

Yes, adding a wet towel or sponge to modern acrylics just makes them too thin. Thanks!
Like many others, I also greatly appreciate the time you devote to teaching me.
