dobe2180 yeah there's some shadows that totally get lost that to me make the game look ok better like on joker when his face is in the screen or when the big titan dude first comes.

This game truly looks phenomenal on 360/PS3 as compared to other games from the same era. I recently tried Fable 2 & Fallout new vegas on my series S & they both look pretty awful tbh
@@albertoquinones1173 Yeah because that is simply the case. The original version had video clips it played for cutscenes and the remake used the in-game models
I just don’t like the way the remastered city in general. Batman’s background is always suppose to have a dark background that is complimented with a tone of blue, it’s why asylum was done so well, a lot of the green was changed to blue. But now everything looks weird and the background doesn’t contrast with everything else correctly
He looks better in the city remaster imo and he looked great in the asylum elevator into the introduction. But in most scenes, especially asylum, he looks cartoony
foxhound13 what a lot of people are not catching though is that several characters have actually been substantially reworked. That's why Batman's cowl seems to have "lost" detail in the forehead and eyebrow sculpt. A different artist has updated various details of characters. The most noticeable is Joker because if you look carefully you'll notice his suit is actually very different when it comes to the details. The remaster has a new sculpt and texture and when that's rendered on new tech on a different version of the game engine things will look different. To me, it seems they intentionally wanted to subdue the details for stylistic reasons. The original game had very pronounced facial details, this game makes things like facial wrinkles less harsh and, in my opinion, more lifelike. My only complaint is that the frame rate of the remaster is locked at 30fps if I recall correctly. That's unfortunate but I'll still buy this game even though I own Arkham on every platform it's been released on haha

It's basically like this: hallways, corridors, and crumbling broken walls and floors have amazing updates in the remaster. Colors and shading effects have been massively improved. In a weird way, things look better up close rather than further away, which is weird because it's usually the other way around. Lighting effects from fires shining on walls and such are more subtle and to me work more realistically, not to mention how well fire and explosions look themselves. The biggest issues are obviously the character models. Somehow Batman's face looks very unnerving in Asylum, yet they have it looking better in City. Why they didn't just use the same model for both games, I will never know. The worst character model from both is easily Hugo Strange. The skin textures are not as good, the reflection in his glasses is too clear and should be more subtle, his clothing somehow less texture, and yeah... I don't want to talk about his hair. It's like that old toy where you use the magnet to put facial hair on the picture. It gets weirder though, because then you have clearly better character models like Catwoman. I don't think there is a single downside to her new look. If I had to nitpick, maybe it'd be that her lipstick is way brighter in color. Honestly though, the skin is smoother, and the suit looks like Arkham Knight. Penguin looks much better too, his glass bottle is much clearer and looks very realistic, his skin textures are done much better, he has some noticeable stubble, and his suit looks amazing. I think the downside would probably be the same as all the other characters, that being his hair kinda looks glued on. Then there are some mixed bags like Two Face. His scarred side seems to have more detail put into it while not as much was put into his non- scarred side. His suit is better textured, but again his hair is crap. Kinda ironic that Two Face is done half better and half worse than PC. Joker is tough for me. They took out a lot of detail to simplify his look, and I honestly don't mind it. I think he looks closer to his look in Knight, and he just seems more intimidating to look at. If you pause the video during the death cut scene, just staring at the two side by side it was more unnerving to look at the remaster, and not in a bad "that looks awful" way. With him being the Joker, I feel like adding more color worked better for him too. It also blends better between pre rendered cut scene to gameplay. The only other visual negative I can think of is the water effects. Not like rain, but the textures for the water surrounding both of the islands is better looking and more detailed on PC, despite having less movement with waves. In the case of frame rate and performance (which this video didn't show off), this is probably how I'd recommend this package: If you are a pc gamer, you won't be getting your 60 frames. You already have a visually stunning game, and you probably don't want to sacrifice frames for a mixed bag in visuals. If you are going from PS3/ 360 to PS4/One, I believe the original games were already at 30 frames, and even with some issues with character models, I still think that there is enough there that is an improvement to visuals that you should go out and get it, maybe at a lowered price. Both games as of the recent patch are both 30fps locked, and they are much closer to the design of Knight now. That is also another added bonus that you can now have all Rocksteady titles on the PS4 including the VR game.
The biggest complaint I have is that Return to Arkham loses a lot of the fun coloring the original had. Like, a lot of the large splashes of blues and reds and greens have been removed to make the games look more realistic. Which makes it look less comic book-y.
Wdym? They added in extra color to make the game more comic book-y. If you can see correctly the old arkham games looks more realistic than the remasters. Look at the character models and environments and you'll believe me.
The new Version looks amazing. We know that by now but the problem is it runs like shit. Looks like you'll need PS4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio to play it since this mess of a framerate is not even locked. Looks like for now the PC Version is still the best. 60fps over 20-40 mess.
But guess it will run on 60fps on both Scorpio and Pro because of there faster Hardware. Should be good on them but I would not really want to play it on the current Hardware.
" Looks like for now the PC Version is still the best. " This seems to be the situation with every game I can remember on PC since 2007 (when I started PC gaming). Only exception I could think of is how Batman Arkham Knight PC version being pulled from retailers ( my Steam version of the game ran perfectly since day 1)
5:34 shows how realistic, true and smooth graphics PS4 version is easily delivering compared to the washed-out and jaggy-edged graphics the PS3 is hardly trying to produce ! This has nothing to do to respect or disrespect to PS3 but that's only the difference the new gen of consoles have come to make.
Amazing how a few minor tweaks on shaders can improve the overall visuals. Arkham City is one of the greatest games of all time in my not-so-humble opinion and it certainly deserved a facelift.
The environment looks way better. The lightning, the color contrast, the rain and dust effects, etc. But the character models are worse in the remaster. Batman has a weird looking frown, Joker looks too clean and saturated, Hugo’s beard looks fake and glued-on, etc.
The textures in the original Arkham games are starting to show their age, especially since they a have a muddy look to them. I still enjoy both versions, even though they each have their flaws, but I'm very thankful to just be able to play these amazing games filled with childhood memories on my trusty PS4.
4:29 Gordon looks so weird in Return to Arkham. Like a weird sex doll. The old version also didn't look very realistic, but it fitted the style of the game much better.
Origins absolutely belongs with Return to Arkham. Such a criminally under rated game. It's dark. Gritty. Dark atmosphere. It's belongs right up there with the other 3 games. It's my 2nd favorite after City.
The settings look amazing. The only things I don’t like are some of the character models and the lighting in the buildings. It doesn’t feel as creepy as the original because there are more bright lights and the faces on certain characters.
Yeah I mentioned this about the Dr Strange intro sequence shown in this video. The right side of his face that was hidden in darkness is now magically lit up, his eyes are also completely lit up (I noticed that the eyes of all the characters in the remaster are being lit up in other scenes not shown in this video to the point it looks like there's two white specs glowing in darkness sometimes), the face is saturated with some light that hides the grooves of his face and they managed to butcher the hair shading completely to the point the hairs look blocky. I don't get how you could fuck this up so bad. Sadly the environment objects and particles do look better, which would make the PC version look phenomenal if they were incorporated there.
People hate on the return to Arkham games, yes they could have been better I would definitely have made it different, but they are still better looking than the originals. Especially asylum which looks gorgeous.
Broose Wain Actually, Batman looks amazing in Batman: Arkham City! (I've played the full game of Arkham City, I haven't got to Asylum yet.) The Joker is also quite impressive. It looks a lot better when you actually play the game.
how to preserve a game's horror-inspired art style according to virtuos studios: 1. warmer colours 2. brighter lights 3. remove all dust from the air 4. remove all signs of blur, because it's important in horror films to see exactly what's coming next ????????
In settings, colors, lighting and resolution, the remasters are better. The only thing I don't like is Batman's face in the remastering, it looks very inexpressive (they should have used the original face better or the City one better) also the hair looks a little strange; but the rest are great.
***** Agreed and nice, I think catwoman looks pretty good in the remaster. Also remaster penguin looks alot better from his original design imo, but thanks for replying/rating it!
Lol, the PC 2009 Joker looks better than the Remastered PS4/XBone cash grab. 4:58 Or look at Batman here, especially his face, 2009 PC version blows it away... 11:36 Look at the plants in the background 12:00
I think parts of it look better, but only parts. It's not an overall improvement in my eyes, as some of the character models don't look right compared to the PC version (my choice of Arkham platform). Joker's hair in the first Titan clip is one example, and also Batman's face looks off. Yes, it was that way originally, but they should've tried to make it look better with the new graphics rather than letting it look awkward. If anyone is going to insult me over this opinion then your argument will immediately be ignored.
Whoever did the lighting and environments deserves a raise. The character models look like ass and some of the stylish elements like camera grit/mood are completely lost in the remaster.
Think I might pick up the remastered anyway. I don't have my old console anymore, and I'm not socially inept enough to have a gaming PC. So i'll buy it on next gen, mainly for the enjoyment of playing two games i loved! And for $25 for two games, not gonna break the bank!
Well too bad because you will not have any other explaination than that. Possibly because Battlefield 1, Battlefront and MGS V were never released on the older platforms?
You're comparing apples with oranges, Battlefield/battlefront is running on the frostbite engine whilst batman is on the unreal engine, of course they'll run differently
I still wished they would port the remastered to pc at least. Lighting and environments are better in remaster while character models are better in original.
I don't care how it looks, I'm just happy they remastered two of my favorite games. Although I've been hearing there's framerate problems, I hope they fix that.
It seems like new trend is destroying every piece of atmosphere and art direction for a bland and boring aesthetic. Arkham asylum and city had a really distintic gotic look, not this "realistic" bulshit
Even today, there quality differences are so inconsistent. Sometimes the remaster looks on par or better than the originals, and other times they look like much much worse. It reminds me a lot when Resident Evil 4 was released on modern consoles, yeah it looks a bit cleaner and brighter but that in lines the problem. When it's brighter, the lil imperfections in the graphics really show because in the original, they didn't need to put in as much detail because the resolution masks it. The same thing happens here, where the brighter aesthetic not only brings up the graphical shortcomings more, but doesn't do the gothic comic book-y style any favors either.
Agustín Garcia it's called true color not green it part of detail it brings out the true color as u would see in reality so it's like seeing what Batman looks like and how he blends in with surrounding in the real world
Not worth it, especially if I have to shell out for an entire PS4 Pro just to get it to work properly. I'll stick with my 360 GOTY versions with the goofy 3D glasses. ^^
I admire them trying to bring the past alive and remaster it, just with some areas it’s been done poorly and some it looks really good. The OG’s will always be supreme but I see that they were trying their best to improve it as much as possible but maybe we’ll eventually get a remaster that ACTUALLY compliments the older ones instead of making it look wack but I’m only hoping lol
What did they do to Batman's face in the Asylum remaster??? how did that pass quality control? also why did they disable the bloom post-fx on return to arkham?
this is weird there are sections where the remaster is clearly better by a long shot then parts where the original looks better.
That essentially sums up my stance, as well.

Dude nobody plays vr ps4
Batman should look unnerving
Uff que buen comentario
Original version, Batsuit was made from high quality latex and rubber!
Remastered version, EVERYTHING was made from rubber
Flip it around then it'll be facts.
Plastic and rubber. Even Harvey's coin now looks like plastic lmao
The remaster looks more like a mod where all the models made brighter and shiner, however, the environment looks fantastic
2:47 Original Joker's face looks much better
Only exception I could think of is how Batman Arkham Knight PC version being pulled from retailers ( my Steam version of the game ran perfectly since day 1)
Yep loving the pc versions, they look amazing
thewhitewolf My game still stutters like crazy. Can't finish the dlc because of how much is stutters
Lean Pharaoh What hardware do you have?
Please don't say you use a laptop :(
everyone looks like toys in the new one
Ben Robutka ok :D
Ben Robutka shut up
Nuke H20 why
Ben Robutka. STOP BEING A HATER I LIKE THE REMASTER
Nuke H20 I like the new remaster ( and love these new rain effects) stop getting so salty for a little bit of criticism
The hair in the remasters pisses me off. It's totally demastered. The lighting lacks harmony with the theme of the originals in some cases.
Nah
Ps3 has better looking gordon and atmosphere
Ps4 just looks....unloaded
11:51 HEY LOOK, BRUCE IS SMILING!!!
Who else thinks that this game looks like they rushed it and only made it for more money
It's a old game you can't rush it if it's already old
Because the PC port looked bad its rushed? Lmao what a joke aha
They dis this for not only money but for players with new generations
11:53 - Bruce is f****ng smiling!
0:00 return to arkham asylum
6:22 Return to arkham city
You forgot WiiU Batman AC version.
xXSilentAgent47Xx Arkham City's on Wii U as well?!
sgtfrozty Yea Wii U got its own version called armored edition.
sgtfrozty yep since 2013
Wow... even AC couldn't save Wii U
xXSilentAgent47Xx WiiU version is best version
The textures in the original Arkham games are starting to show their age, especially since they a have a muddy look to them. I still enjoy both versions, even though they each have their flaws, but I'm very thankful to just be able to play these amazing games filled with childhood memories on my trusty PS4.
Exactly, I completely agree with you.
I agree with you as well
I think the penguin looks really good in the remaster. 7:47
AJz eggz yeah
PC is hands down the best version. it still has the same OG visuals but much better textures
I like all of them 🤷🏻♂️
It's not like any of it looks 'bad' by any means, and I honestly could care less if it's 30 or 60 fps.
Great games.
People hate on the return to Arkham games, yes they could have been better I would definitely have made it different, but they are still better looking than the originals.
Especially asylum which looks gorgeous.
4:56 funny how they turned light into shadow
Remaster is better but batman and joker both look a little weird
Broose Wain Actually, Batman looks amazing in Batman: Arkham City! (I've played the full game of Arkham City, I haven't got to Asylum yet.) The Joker is also quite impressive. It looks a lot better when you actually play the game.
Parts of the PS4/Xbox One version do look better, but I prefer the character models of the original
8:30 There's a ton of aliasing on his jaw in the next gen version when he puts on the hood.
how to preserve a game's horror-inspired art style according to virtuos studios:
1. warmer colours
2. brighter lights
3. remove all dust from the air
4. remove all signs of blur, because it's important in horror films to see exactly what's coming next
????????
In settings, colors, lighting and resolution, the remasters are better. The only thing I don't like is Batman's face in the remastering, it looks very inexpressive (they should have used the original face better or the City one better) also the hair looks a little strange; but the rest are great.
2:43 tf happened to Batman's lips in the remaster?
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about this. But, honestly, I think it’s cool to see two nostalgic and awesome games getting remastered.
bought return to arkham love it like back in the days, but really feel those 30 frames
How would you rate it out of 10?
LordRoni i wasn't asking you lol
***** Agreed and nice, I think catwoman looks pretty good in the remaster. Also remaster penguin looks alot better from his original design imo, but thanks for replying/rating it!
The average fps in ps4 are 21 fps and in xbox one 19 fps.
+Oscar Villa Cardenas on my ps4 I play AC at 50-60fps
As always, PC version sticks to the best version even without remaster...PC Master Race hooyaa
Lol, the PC 2009 Joker looks better than the Remastered PS4/XBone cash grab. 4:58
Or look at Batman here, especially his face, 2009 PC version blows it away... 11:36
Look at the plants in the background 12:00
Why's everything brighter in the remaster.
Turn the brightness down then.
I erased time and lept passed it
Am I the only one who thinks the remastered version looks better than the original?
I think parts of it look better, but only parts. It's not an overall improvement in my eyes, as some of the character models don't look right compared to the PC version (my choice of Arkham platform). Joker's hair in the first Titan clip is one example, and also Batman's face looks off. Yes, it was that way originally, but they should've tried to make it look better with the new graphics rather than letting it look awkward.
If anyone is going to insult me over this opinion then your argument will immediately be ignored.
1:17 the guard looks like a cars character the way he moved his head
Whoever did the lighting and environments deserves a raise. The character models look like ass and some of the stylish elements like camera grit/mood are completely lost in the remaster.
I feel like the arkham city suit''s cape and cowl are more grey than they should be. On the PS3 the suit looks amazing.
This makes me want to get return to Arkham on Xbox one even though I already have the originals on Xbox 360
Think I might pick up the remastered anyway. I don't have my old console anymore, and I'm not socially inept enough to have a gaming PC. So i'll buy it on next gen, mainly for the enjoyment of playing two games i loved! And for $25 for two games, not gonna break the bank!
Return to Arkham looks great....but why the fuck wasn't it 60fps?
Because they updated the graphics to such an extend that it isn't possible to reach 60 FPS anymore.
***** Battlefield 1, Battlefront and Metal Gear Solid V run at 60 and look way better. I don't buy that.
The German Mason mgsv was released on last gen consoles too
I still wished they would port the remastered to pc at least. Lighting and environments are better in remaster while character models are better in original.
It's a shame the remaster lost some of the atmospheric tones the original had, like the fog in Killer Croc's lair.
The fog is gone even in the outside world, makes eveything look too clean.
I don't care how it looks, I'm just happy they remastered two of my favorite games. Although I've been hearing there's framerate problems, I hope they fix that.
the original artistic design was better than the new remastered versions .
11:50 - We'll bang, Ok? Batman Version
The visual is really clean on the Xbox One version, great work from Rocksteady
PC version is still the best one...physx always makes the game gorgeous
It seems like new trend is destroying every piece of atmosphere and art direction for a bland and boring aesthetic. Arkham asylum and city had a really distintic gotic look, not this "realistic" bulshit
My favourite game series of all time...😊👌
Closely followed by Uncharted and BioShock.
0:48 What happened to the dust particles?
why is cobblepot the only one who looks genuinely improved and not super squeaky unrealistically clean?
I genuinely got an ad for Return to Arkham.
The graphics are better in the remaster but the light change to green was a fail. it looses personality without the blue light
Agustín Garcia it's called true color not green it part of detail it brings out the true color as u would see in reality so it's like seeing what Batman looks like and how he blends in with surrounding in the real world
ITSJB I figured that out after. Thanks for replying
Agustín Garcia I apologize if I came off rude during that comment
ITSJB don't worry :D
Not worth it, especially if I have to shell out for an entire PS4 Pro just to get it to work properly. I'll stick with my 360 GOTY versions with the goofy 3D glasses. ^^
Tired of people whining about this game I think they did a great job taking the time out to give us two great games on PS4
original: crank the textures, add some spice and don't forget to mention some good old fashion love
remaster: DEEEM BEWWBIES
These games looked really good for back then
Lighting on character models seems off in the newer versions
I admire them trying to bring the past alive and remaster it, just with some areas it’s been done poorly and some it looks really good. The OG’s will always be supreme but I see that they were trying their best to improve it as much as possible but maybe we’ll eventually get a remaster that ACTUALLY compliments the older ones instead of making it look wack but I’m only hoping lol
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks these remasters are WHACK af. they did Asylum dirty especially.
What did they do to Batman's face in the Asylum remaster??? how did that pass quality control? also why did they disable the bloom post-fx on return to arkham?
@12:28 what's with that arkham sign on that tall building...? Would they really be advertising arkham like that...?
