Fricken brilliant. I bought three different replacement latches (one of Amazon; two from Ace Hardware). None of them fit in the door properly.
Went into a one of those Lowe's megastores, and they didn't have anything that fit. Hired a repair guy, and he couldn't help either. SMH.
I watched your video, shot some WD40 inside the latch, and minutes later it worked. Thanks so much for posting this. Happy New Year!

Thank you! I am going to try this. Using a stick in the door as well.

Hey Matt. I watched your video and decided it was time to tackle my sliding door that doesn't lock. I was always afraid of starting this task because I thought that I had to dissasemble the whole lock. After seeing your video, I understood that my lock was working fine, it was just not catching up on the latch on the door frame. It was upside down lol. Now everything is working A1. Thanks again!

Solid video! I actually just ran into the 2nd issue you mentioned and had to adjust the height of the slots on the wall; never thought about check the latch on the door but if it happens again I'll know where to look!

oh wow that's a really cool thing to know.... we had a sliding glass door that wouldn't lock & we just did the old 1x1 (cut to length) in the tread trick 😂 and we always had Wd40 on hand too 🤷‍♀️

Well it's like 5:30 a.m. and I'm watching this video because over the holidays, I had my son-in-law and daughter.... I had to keep replacing a screw in the mechanism by the handle to tighten it, but it was locking. it was locking fine..... So we went to home Depot and he bought a new mechanism part... The handle fell off the next day.lol...... It locked for 3 days and they left and now it doesn't lock... I always have a bar there, but I still don't like that it doesn't lock and locksmiths want over $130 just to come out... Yikes.!!.. I'll try fooling around with that... I doubt I could do anything ,I'm not mechanically inclined with all that ..., Well I'm glad I watched your video thank you ..I'll see if I could do something. If not I have to get a good handyman that knows what they're doing.. It was locking .
I should have just left it..😂.😂

Great video matt!! A friendly comment, WD40 is more like a solvent, so is great to celan and help things to work. But in the long time it dryes. So is recommended to apply a finish oil, in this case a low viscosity oil, like guns oil would work great.

Thinking you should remove the two screws to take out the mechanism and really clean and grease it proper

I'm having trouble with a brand new door. There are 2 latches on it rather than 1. The top latch doesn't want to go back in. I have trouble both locking and unlocking.

Doesn't sound like they had an issue with break-ins, but I would still keep the hockey stick just in case.

Before I watched the video, the first thing I thought of is the rollers. But, sure, with other means to adjust, try that. EDIT I got to the lube part: graphite.

I don't like sliding glass doors, they just don't seem very secure to me. Even when you had the latch working the door was flimsy. Seems a company could up with a dead bolt type lock for them.

They kinda do. They got them lock bars. We always just used a stick lol.
