Hello, I have a similar Pella door with a similar issue, however the knob and shaft are both good, but the lock fails and it’s stuck being locked preventing the door from shutting. Unable to close door now. Any idea on what that could be?
I remember having a similar issue but it’s been a long time. I think I just had to jiggle the locking mechanism. Sorry - but it’s a distant memory. But I remembered thinking I broke the lock but it just need some manipulation. Worst case I’d take to handles and lock off- to get a better picture how it operates. Hope that helps - thx for watching!
@@18x9 I'm dealing with it right now. I took the fascia off the door to get at the mortise set. Turns out the spring inside was broken. Haven't found a compatible lock set yet.
I have the same problem though the shaft eventually slips free of the knob. The friction is not enough to keep it engaged. I've tried gluing it in the past but that eventually fails as well. Any other thoughts on how to permanently fix the failing mechanism?
Hey Hannah, I haven’t had that exact problem. You could call Pella ( or door manufacturer for tips. ) Also look for a parts diagram on the web site. Sometimes that will give you clues as too how it goes in. The handle is integral to the lock mechanism so that has to come off first. If you can order a new lock mechanism, sometimes you can look at the parts and see how they fit together, then figure how they would go in - and thus how it would come out. Treat it like a puzzle. It had to be assembled at the factory. So it can be disassembled. Look for hidden / hard to find screws. If none, then it may just be pushed into the door and held in place by the handle screws. Hope that helps. Thx for watching.
@@Housebarons I figured it out, thanks! Turns out you have to remove the trim then remove a the board that's on the front with 6 screws then you can get to the hardware.
I just had the same thing happen with our door. How did you manage to access the internal mechanism and fix it? Did you happen to create a video when you repaired yours? I tried reaching out to Pella and they've been useless so far
Thank you for this video. It helped so much! I've had to watch it again today to fix my door.

Hey Christian…,
They do sell the whole handle mechanism online… best for long term to replace it all w/ new.
Thx for watching!
Door was locked closed but I loosened the handles and was able lift the inside thumb latch and gently bump open the door.
Hey Brad..,
Nice! Thx for watching!
I have almost the same problem but the hardware on the latch broke, any idea how to get that out?

@@foxhannah Dealing with the same issue rn. Did you need to replace the internal lock set? I can't find one that matches.
