Sorry about that. It took us a few tries to get the sound corrected for android. So we had to upload the video several times and take out the old ones. Because we used several different types of media recording in this video we ran into some technical issues. Thank you for your patience!
I agree 100% about knowing how to use paper maps. Always have a back up for your electronics! I grew up a nomad as a military brat who went to 13 schools in 12 years. I remember at age 10, while my dad was deployed being my mom’s navigator using. Paper map back in the 60’s driving from Maryland to our new home in Mississippi.
Very good. I thought I was an "expert" - but I learned a lot. I always wondered how to get the GPS coordinates from Google maps so I could key them into my Garmin. "Live Links" don't do me any good. Today I learned about "long click" and "long tap". This will really help me. THANKS! You are a cornucopia of knowledge.
As a home care nurse out here in the San Bernardino County High Desert-I can't tell you how many rabbit trails Google Maps has taken me down. Some of these roads in Yermo and especially Phelan...I have nearly turned my little Cherokee onto its back because Google thinks the road is paved. This is a very helpful video!
As an aviator I have used GPS since the 90's. They are wonderful, as a supplement to navigation. A paper map (or chart) is still necessary to get a big picture view of a trip. I would never plan out a trip without getting out a paper map. You can pencil in notations as you do your homework. This gives you a wholistic picture that you "download" into your mind.
Thanks for reposting the video didn't get the audio on the first and last part of it but I'm sure you know that really enjoy your videos working on getting out there myself your videos are totally amazing thank you so much for what you do
I'm so glad I still know how to use a paper map and atlas! Google maps has put me on "wild goose chases" on regular paved roads enough so that I always have paper folding maps! Very helpful video Bob, thank I you!🌹
Thank you Bob, again for a great video. You're such a good teacherI use to get lost a lot! My gps was crazy. I findly figured it out. Only follow gps on paved roads until google gets it. You will know when google maps finely does get it. It took about 2 years once for it to figure out whe in type in the address to my home. Now instead of being inaccurate it show my address correctly. Learn to use the tools so it can help you. Don't get mad at the program. Its not the program. Its your not having pactience with the program. If i had know in the beginning to enter gps coordainance it would have taken me home. I can read a map well, so i would know if it was doing it's duty.
I tried to figure out how to use "meetup.com", and never did get it right; had to just give up. But following your instructions here made it easy! Got it right first try, just following what you said to do. :) Outstandingly clear instructions!
I use a Chromebook a lot of the time. well Chromebook does not have a GPS. LOL Maps has shown me in Africa, Germany. ROFL So everyone needs to have an little bit of an idea of where they are. As for the send to phone google maps will list all the phones, IPads, computers anything you have used on google.Great Video Bob. Thank You
IPhone, take a photo and send it to them. They can use one of many apps to read the metadata which includes the GPS location inside the file. I am a FileMaker developer and one of the functions for FileMaker Go is to get the location (GPS). There are also apps in the App Store that reveal the GPS coordinates.
Google maps is great but some locations have other gps challenges. Here in the north east, in NY in particular, Vans, RVs, Campers and Trailers are not allowed on all highways. What are called “Parkways” are usually off limits to commercial and larger vehicles. Part of the reason is low bridge clearances (as low as 6’11”), as well as separating commercial from private vehicles. The problem starts with the fact that standard GPS does not offer functionality to route around those roadways. This includes google maps, Apple Maps, Waze and others. A costly commercial GPS might be the only safe option. Generally speaking I’m surprised that the RV segment is so completely ignored by mainstream (popular) providers. Do you have recommendations for RV gps based on size and registration classification ? P.S. I recommend a Satellite GPS as a backup in case of poor or non existent cellphone coverage.
This can be useful for gig workers (Doordash, Postmates, Instacart, etc.) if you are trying to find a customer's apartment unit at one of those huge apartment complexes with multiple buildings (that can take up almost a square mile it seems). Just instruct the customer on how to look up their coordinates and have them copy/paste to text, then you copy/paste into google maps. Alternatively, customers can just look up their own GPS coordinates and give them to their driver in the delivery instructions when placing orders and/or via text when driver is enroute, and just instruct them to copy into Google Maps. Unfortunately, this technique is NEVER used. (although I do this sometimes-but I'm the ONLY person that uses this hack) Instead, customers will attempt to provide complicated directions (or worse, neglect to) and drivers will spend 20+ minutes looking for the unit, just to deliver cold food. This would save a lot of frustration.
At 11:15 you were talking about hiw to fibd and mail your locatio. If you look to the bottom right corner above the plus and minus is a dot, you click that it will take your to your location on the map. No need to guess where you are
Now don’t count on your iPhone routing you back out of a destination. Although the gps is knows where you are, with no cell signal you can’t download the maps. I’ve had this happen. Easily solved though. You can download maps into your ap prior for the area your visiting.
In this video you were using “meetup.com” as one of your examples. I’ve never heard of the page but I’m intrigued!!! Can you do a video on what meetup is all about. ‘Review of meetup.com’ would be awesome!
Will my google maps work without a signal while I’m driving? In other words can I download the maps and my route on my phone before I leave and have it work if I loose my signal? I have an iPhone and an android phone.
Take a look at “what3words”. It id a hyper-accurate location description that takes GPS coordinates from hard to transcribe and transmit numbers, to a combination of unambiguous 3 English word combinations. Check out the what3words RUclips page for a complete description and use cases.
I hope you dont get mad I have been thru your videos and got lost there are so many do you have one on Pets and how to keep them free of fleas and ticks and good ways to store their food, ect. Our Chi is allergic to flea bites and most flea products so needing some good info thanks and sorry if this is in wrong area just delete thank you ~*~ Cinn
You don't even need google maps for this. Just use your compass app. It comes automatically installed on the iPhone. (You will have to have enabled location permissions for precise location for this to work. If its not enabled, you will be prompted to do so) On the compass screen, just below your bearing, you'll find your latitude and longitude. Just hold your finger on your displayed LatLong for about three seconds. Tap "copy", then paste the coordinates via email, text, etc. Give the other person instructions to copy/paste the coordinations into the favorite GPS navigation app. (google/apple maps, waze)

I'm so glad it finally got fixed - well done. It can't have been easy but it's important enough to have been worth it. Yay.

Finally! I know how to work with these GPS numbers. Thank you so very very much for making this video!

Thanks from someone who is somewhat computer illiterate. Was able to understand and be tried it out.

I was looking at a road atlas.... A kid came up to me and said oh they printed out Google maps 😏LOL
I totally agree about the paper maps..Thanks Bob..My GPS has sent me too HELL a few times. Lol
This would be a good lesson for a S.T.E.M. class. ...with a test to follow. And then, a lesson about a real map.
I'm so glad I still know how to use a paper map and atlas! Google maps has put me on "wild goose chases" on regular paved roads enough so that I always have paper folding maps!
Very helpful video Bob, thank I you!🌹
I'd be lost without Bobs videos! Thank you Sir
Thank you so much for all the useful information. You broke it down so nicely. Love and Light.

Ah! I can hear you! Such great information, too. I need to learn about GPS.
I sure could benefit from this lesson in more detail

'Google knows all' ... heh. heh, heh. So true.
This great info ... thanks. :)
I have it happen all of the time as a mobile dog groomer. So many new developments have been built that some of the gps and google can’t find them.
the term death by gps is true, but I still have one and trust the map and compess
👏 Bravo
Good ever
Sound working now
Great Thank you for your patience!
How do I send the coordinates to my Iphone? i dont understand how to do that.

Deja vu ;)
If you can't read a map, find an old geezer like Bob and I and we will help you...;-)
lol that's all I can follow is a map!! but at my age it's hard to use cheaters to read the map then take off your glasses so you can see the road!!
Most folks can't read a map , I don't know where they've been I guess on their phone . Good luck .
Walmart parking lot?
They usually have decent wifi.

It was wrong about the iphone I do not have any of those features on my Iphone to get the gps coordinates
Download Google Maps app on your phone. It's free.

For a bit Bob, I thought you were wearing face paint under your eyes.
What?! You expect people to read a map? A high percentage of people are virtually incapable of reading plans or maps.
If you don’t know how to use a GPS on the phone you’re in trouble!
Totally agree
"Google, where am I" ... What I do
😄😄😄😄😄🍰🍰
