- Learn how to save and export only what is inside the artboard in Adobe Illustrator CC in this super simple tutorial.
When exporting your artwork, if you simply save the document, it will include a document that reaches the furthest edges of everything in the document, not just on the canvas.
With this simple trick, you can save your artwork as jpg, png, and other formats to the canvas size, ready for the files to be used in your design.

Hello, is there any chance to transfer 20 objects on 1 artboard to 20 artboards in Illustarator in a short way, not one by one?
I tried that method but it doesn't work for me... what should i do
Hi, I'm trying to save it as PNG but it won't let me use this option so when I try sending this file to the laser printer it will read everything including what's outside the artboard. Do you know how can I fix this?
Is there a way to do this same thing when saving as a .ai file?
Not that I'm aware of. As the .ai file encompasses everything, including the canvas and multiple artboards, you do need to be able to see/ have access to everything. What you can do is switch into presentation mode (Shift + F) to at least see what the artboard would look like once exported.
Top and bottom are cut off like it should be both left and right sides arent? help please
Did you export multiple artboards or just one?
@@designwithdale just one
Hi, is there a way to do this with a pdf?
Exporting as PDF from Illustrator?
i don't understand what the point of the artboard is if it exports stuff beyond the artboard... lol
In theory, when say, exporting for print, you're technically supposed to use tools like InDesign. Illustrator really should be kept for drawing vector graphics. But they all have their export options, and many people stick to one tool, so it's good to know your limitations when you're not using multiple programs across the Adobe suite.
Nah need to export artboard only as vector, 😢😢converting file to jpeg is not really saving the illustrator file...
Depends on the output. The point of this tutorial is not to save the Illustrator file, but to export what you have as an output (jpg/png etc) to the dimensions of the artboard. If you want the Illustrator file as a vector, then yes, absolutely save as .ai or .eps etc
you're a livesafer
Thank you
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful
