Why would you want to watch Wales lose, they finished bottom of the six nations table.
Pretty okay squad with some iffy calls.... Great to see Liam Williams back in my opinion he HAS to start against south africa. Jury is deffo out on Costelow feel like he didn't have a great game against dragons... Every time I see him play cant say im impressed just really hope he can kick on. Just got to get behind the squad now we are desperate for a win.

Bemused is the word that would best describe my reaction to these choices. Huge respect to Gats and he's obviously been to the relevant games, observed the players, thought about his team , and I'm not the Wales coach, he is. But I do wonder what some Ospreys players need to do to make the squad?
Yeah, I agree with you. It’s a funny one really. Morgan Williams, Nikki Smith, Morgan Morris, James Ratti or could’ve been in the squad really so I’m not sure what’s going on with that one🤷🏻♂️
Why "huge respect" for him? He turned the Chiefs in New Zealand onto Zebre overnight and the minute he left they came good. He had a golden generation and yet never made a world cup final, beat new zealand or had much joy with australia.
All this"gats" stuff does my head in. He's not our man. He's arrogant, off-script and a waste of money. Denying Morgan Morris a Welsh cap is cruel and unjust not just for him but for his family. To say he needs to improve his defensive work is a joke. He's high up the URC stats for tackles and he wins turnovers.
Why does Morris have to jump through seemingly imaginary hoops and yet other players who perform terribly at club level can get in.
I think it’s slightly unfair to comment on what he did at the chiefs when he’s brought us a fair bit of success
I agree with you about Morris. Certainly seams at though he’s just being stubborn for stubborns sake at this point but I’m really not sure who the WRU could get in that is better suited with the current situation that we find ourselves in?
We need to at least give him a season year or 2 and see where we are at that point maybe

But I'd say he brought Wales success in the way that the next CEO of Apple will bring them success. The work had already been done by the previous regimes, the healthy picture then at the regions and the continual, rapid embracing of professionalism. Plus the other teams were poor in the North. Now all of that has reversed he's been exposed.
I judge someone by how intelligently they talk, how philosophical they are, how they break complicated processes down simply for others and he just talks incoherent rubbish. We are wasting precious time and money on him. We need to look for an up and coming coach with ideas and humility.
I'll never forget when he was asked why he was giving Joe Roberts his debut and he said "he's got a big arse." Get Gatland the grindr app and let's get a proper rugby coach in.
Feels like a bit of a messy squad. Not surprised about Morris or Smith- he obviously just doesn't like them, Even as a Cardiff fan I don't really understand Bevan over Morgan-Williams who's still young and has shown good form. I am glad he's got Hathaway and Beetham in though who could both be useful

Hi Christian, I think we need to try any one at the moment, good to see Cory Hill ,Gareth Davies and Liam Williams, good to see Jac Morgan is fit and well and the same for Dewi Lake, we do need in the team is Christ Tshiunza. It will be god to get a mix of new and some of the experience players, we need to get back on track. As always good to watch your review on Welsh Rugby, catch you soon Take care

Will be honest… him saying he wants to be physically dominant again (can’t remember the exact quote) and then misses out James Ratti, Liam Belcher, Nicky Smith and most importantly of all MORGAN MORRIS!?!? He’s won the most MOTM this season and player of the season for many seasons and is almost certainly Wales best ball carrier at the moment. Fucking stupid he’s left out….
Gatland has always had his favourites and 'non-favourites' . Morgan Morris and Nicky Smith seemingly much like Lee Byrne was, in that respect ?

I’m actually pretty content with this squad. I think we will struggle a lot against SA but we could definitely push Aus. I honestly think we will lose 4/4 summer games but as there’s some good performances and some new guys get a chance, I’ll be happy.
I like the Tzuinsa is named as a lock. He isn’t an international back rower in my opinion but he could be a great lock. And alongside Jenkins, they have the potential to be a world class lock pairing.
I hope Ben Thomas or Beetham get a proper run out at 10. We need all the options we can get in that position. Would’ve liked to have seen Dan Edwards in the squad but I don’t think he has the physical structure of a Gatland player so I dunno if Gatland will ever pick him.

I really like Thomas he’s been quality for a while now and still getting better so would be interested to see him having a go. Gats loves to throw a few curve balls doesn’t he 😂

I think Sanjays experience will be invaluable for the younger players, I still feel there will be a couple of changes before the tour party leaves! I'm thinking that gatts will start Costellow at 10 and Thomas on the bench on the, strange tho no Nicky Smith and Morgan Morris included!

tbh - regarding the forwards, the main change for the future should be to bring back Robin McBryde and ditch the '"Humph" as coach
Yeah, I agree with that. With Humphries running things our scrum has been abysmal. I certainly think a change would be useful

Agree this is a very interesting squad With alot of players missing like T.Basham The squad looks very light in quite a few positions especially at fly half I have to wonder exactly what W.Gatland is thinking of ? Apart from looking at more young talent Because truth be told and sadly i dont think Wales will win any of their summer tests Perhaps Gatland is looking to fine tune his squad in the Autumn ?? It's the only explanation i can think of for why the squad is so light in so many positions
Yeah I agree. It feels like his trying to force Ben Thomas into 10 and I think he’s trying to get Cardiff into making him a 10 which I don’t think is his best spot.

@@TheWelshSportsPodcast I know what you mean .But personally i dont see the need to force B.Thomas into fly half From September W.Gatland will be able to call on the services of G.Anscombe and C.Sheedy Who are in my opinion alot better than S.Costelow at this time Who looks like he needs another year or two to improve his game management and skills

Might be the worst squad i have seen Gatland select, its hard to see what his plan is if he even has one, really starting to think he came back just for a few easy paychecks before retirement
I don’t think that’s the case but I agree. It’s hard to see the direction he’s going in atm, it’s just a bit of a mess isn’t it. I’m really hoping he has some underlaying plan that we can’t see 😬

Really don’t think Gatland is what wales needs. Seems to be far too stuck in his ways as opposed to picking on form.
If you can find better than Gatland as head coach for Wales, then go right ahead. The man has proven time and time again how good he is, and the fact that a whole swathe of seasoned players either retired or made themselves unavailable after the last World Cup means he's got a hard task ahead. He's trying to build a team, he's trying to spot players who can work well with other players, emerging talent, established talent - it isn't just about who is in form.
@@Jenjenilou Not trying to start an argument but stats can only tell some of the story. You could also argue Gatland knew this was an ageing squad on its last legs the last few years he was in charge and he didnt want to bring talent through. Pivac got thrown under the bus and now Gatland has come back ( Very well paid) to try and fix a mess he is partial to causing. He had a poor time with Chiefs to the point of the fans all wanting him out. Maybe the game has moved past him. If we get a battering by South Africa and lose all games to Australia im honestly not sure how much more patience their will be.

As for 'the fans at Chiefs' who may have wanted him out, you only need to look at 'the fans in Wales' who wanted him back and still do. He literally lost EVERY game with the Chiefs that is a FACT. You then proceed to say armchair critics.... You do realise their is a large following of welsh rugby supporters who didnt want him back? where do they stand? you do realise blind support isnt good or healthy. Gatland and his coaching staff are paid a VERY large amount of money they are not above criticism. Honestly people like you make me realise why Wales will never be a serious force in rugby. Quite frankly this is the most bizzare squad Gats has ever picked. Wants a solid set piece but doesnt pick the best scrummaging props. Second row dont get me started. Backrow picks itself but Alex Mann should of gone as well Tshiunza and Jenkins should be the second rows because I dont rate any of the other three. Bevan yep probably one of the fittest and quickest scrum halves. One ten... Apparently because the tens we have are all to small.... But then picks the smallest centre in Tompkins over Llewlyn, James and Johnny Williams all big units offers more in attack and defence. Back three Hathaway has been picked so England cant cap him.... Really....
