I think we have these options: Dyer Hathaway (hopefully) Giles Ioan Lloyd Adams Cabango (small, but so are SA’s wings). I actually think Ioan Lloyd could be a bit of a Shane W if played on the wing. At 15 we have Dan John and Winnett.
Christian with another 10/10 video! Keep the good stuff coming, bro! I’m well impressed with your channel and I’m amazed you don’t have a bigger subscriber base! That’ll come in time tho. This video has given me a bit of confidence going forward that Gatland will soon find a world class, balanced back 3. I’m still not convinced by Cam Winnet at 15 so I’m kinda hoping Gatland will convert one of our wingers to fullback. Jadams is the obvious pick and with his recent form, he doesn’t start on the wing IMO. Looking forward (kinda) to the summer squad announcement. I’m hoping to see some of the lads from this video in that squad 💪🏼 🏴
Cheers Sam🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 it’s growing slowly. You’re one of the OGs 😂 Really? What don’t you like about him? I think he’s superb all around. Not sure if Adams is the answer with his age and his form has been up and down. Won’t be long now mate and it will the summer tour. Comes around quick don’t it 😂
@@TheWelshSportsPodcast I think winner had an alright 6 nations. But I can’t remember any standout moments besides a few HORRENDOUS passes in the Italy game. He was relatively solid but offered zero in attack. I just don’t think he has the size and speed needed at international level. I hope he can prove me wrong tho! You’re probably right about Jadams. He’s a fantastic player when he is on form and I hope he can find that form again soon.
Ah Sambo in fairness we do agree about most things but i’m afraid we’re gonna have to disagree on this one I really think he has the top quality to be a 50+ cap player. Very composed, good footwork and a good all-round footballer. He just needs a bit of time in a team that’s not constantly going backwards. I certainly hope that’s right anyway 😂
Going to be a controversial opinion but for me If Liam Williams is fit and available you bring him straight in. With modern science and tailored training he could still make the next world cup and he's one of the few Wales players left who is use to winning/ winning mentality. I've got nothing against Cam winnent but we have a young side who is using to getting pumped every week with the regions and now Wales. The squad is crying out for 1 or 2 experienced players to fit back in. The fact we have gone from two generally world class fullbacks in Halfpenny and Williams to pinning our hopes on Cam Winnent who's just done " an okay job" kind of shows the drop off in quality of players available. Id be willing to lay my hat on a 36 year old Liam Williams still being a better 15 then winnent.
No, I can’t really argue with you, mate. You make a real valid point maybe I have a bias towards Cam as I followed him since he broke into the Cardiff team. I do agree about the winning mentality and it’s something that we certainly need . I guess it’s entirely depends on what sort of shapes in once he gets into camp but I can see Gatland picking him because he’s one of his favourites. We shall see 🏴
Great stuff as always. Giles has been good but I don't think he's got the pace he had before the injury- I think all those clips are pre-injury when he was properly rapid. That Ulster game made me think Cabango could potentially make it. Watch out for Tom Bowen in the next couple of years who Cardiff have signed for the senior academy- everything I've seen of him looks so exciting
Yeah seen a few of his clips mate. He looks a real good prospect. Should get some game time next season with a few players leaving. I think Giles is very allusive though but not sure if him and Dyer work as a tandem but you never know (That was the only clips I could get of him)
Hi Christian, I would like to see Liam Williams back but at the end of the day he is old school now and a legend. I do rate Cameron Winnett he is the one we need now a hopefully many years to come. Kelan Giles yes at 26 he is there and we need to play him. That's one player I've been watching and a good possibility is Theo Kobango ( I think that's how you spell it.......) Yes he is young but now is to get him in the national team. and yes I do think there more to come from Josh Adams I still rate Josh. Plenty there for Warren to pick. As always good to catch up, have a good one Take care
Hi mate. Yeah some good young options isn’t there. I do hear you about Williams. I’ve always been a big fan I just think it’s time to move on from those guys now. Maybe in the squad but that’s it’s 🏴 Keep well my friend 👍🏼
@@TheWelshSportsPodcast Agree mate about Liam, in the squad may be on the bench, like I said the last of the old school. Liam has been a great player and been a key part of the Wales team
Yeah, it happily see him on the bench and I think he’d be a good addition to the squad. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of months
Cheers mate 👍🏼 With Grace he’s played like two or three games in three years so I would like to see him have a run and see what he’s capable of as for Hathaway. I think he’s played all of his age grades for England, so I would be surprised if we could tempt them away, but it certainly worth giving a go
I know Grady wants to play centre but can someone please convince him to play wing. One of the highest players in the URC for Clean Breaks, Defenders Beaten, Meters made. We have plenty of big centres not something I thought I would say about a Wales team. Watkin, Johnny Williams, Llewellyn, Eddie James. All who can flip between 12 and 13. Personally would have Hawkins back but wait and see on that. Back to Wingers Gatland has said Rodgers doesn't have the pace for international rugby but he does have the work rate and he is better under the high ball. Giles 9 tries in all comps from 15 games top try scorer for the Welsh regions his best try scoring season. Cabango has the most pace he is absolutely electric but there is no balance if you have Winnett, Giles/Cabango and Dyer in the back three is a small back three. Rosser I like works hard good pace big guy and is physical with it. Back three has gone from strength to weakness in a blink of an eye.
It’s funny, isn’t it, mate? And as you say, centre has gone from a weakness to probably a strength so it’s all changing constantly. I just think with greedy, he’s head and shoulders above everyone else athletically so if we can get him into the game more often at 13, then I’d really like to see that. Unless they can work the ball into his hands like card if we’re doing it at the start of the season then maybe he’d be willing to listen but I’m not sure but the balance of him and Dyer and winnett is a far better when I agree
@@StopTheRot Him, Johnny Williams, Watkins (not everyone will agree with me on that one) Llewellyn, Eddie James are all big units we can use to crash it up more and get some gainline. I wouldn't mind seeing Hennessey included in the squad as I think he will be a force in a few years and I am hoping that one of the regions are currently trying to get him back from Bath. We need balance in the back three and Backrow. Front row we need ball carriers like Gareth Thomas but doesn't carry the ball enough for me. Second row need someone more dynamic why I've been shouting for Teddy Williams. On the plus we have options and these options are only going to get better. We don't have an aging squad anymore.
Theo is 5'9 and weighs 83kg according to Google. Shane Williams, Kolbe & Jason Robinson - three of the very best to have ever done it were all considerably smaller. I like the look of him - certainly over players like Tom Rodgers who just doesn't have international pace.
I think that’s a fair point. Not sure he had the footwork they have though his ability to change detection at full pace is certainly Impressive. Defo worth having a look at him for Gats but I still feel he needs more games at regional rugby which he’s no doubt going to get next year
For me Adams, Dyer, Cabango, Giles, Winnett. Is it worth a look at people like Hathaway, Regan Grace, Nagy? I always liked Protheroe and Conbeer too, although theyre gone now so maybe ineligible. I really rate Beetham but not sure where he'd fit in in the whole puzzle. I don't think much of Rogers really, every chance hes had hes been very average and think Liam's time has passed sadly. Very very very leftfield suggestions, Tomi Lewis from Scarlets or Hamer-Webb or Iwan Stephens (now he's moved down from Falcons)
With Grace he’s played like two or three games in three years so I would like to see him have a run and see what he’s capable of as for Hathaway. I think he’s played all of his age grades for England, so I would be surprised if we could tempt them away, but it certainly worth giving a go Only seen a little of Tommy Lewis and he’s been okay but I think Hamor-Webb is certainly a dark horse. He’s impressed me every time I’ve seen him to be fair
100%. Grace could be good in union given time. I know outside backs from league tend to transition a bit better to union but how many have really ever got to international quality outside of a few legends (Robinson etc) Tomi Lewis tore it up for Jersey last season but theres a big difference between international level and Doncaster away 🤣 Hamer-Webb has youth on his side too. Hes one of the youngest of the lot. I think itll be a summer of youth anyway, with no Beard, no Anscombe, no North, Faletau a doubt on top of the all the recent retirees. If I'm honest I'd give Adams a summer off to lie on a beach and come back in the autumn fresh and fit. Maybe take Liam as he's already out there in Japan for one last hurrah
Yeah, there’s not many, but he certainly has the traits to be something special Yeah, and these two wingers are going to get more rugby next year with some of the names leaving the Scarlets and Cardiff. Yeah, really like you’re thinking. I am disappointed though that Anscombe has ruled himself out but again it’s a big opportunity for Sam and at least he’s got a few games under his belt now and should be fully fit. I for one am both nervous but excited for the summer to see if these players have developed on again since the six nations
Like we've said before if Wales can find a decent front row and a 10-12 combo that works the rest will just flow. If scrums and lineouts are reliable thats half the fight and if we're honest you could almost pick any player from whos available at 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15 and get decent value
Yeah you’re right. Will be interesting to see what he goes with in the back row with Morgan coming back and I wonder if we will see Tompkins now North is gone 🧐
Personally i think Ioan Lloyd should have stayed on the Wing, where he played is best rugbt for Bristol and another playmaker that can come in field as a second receiver
I personally dont rate Dyer at all, he doesnt offer enough in defence, he doesnt compete under the high ball, appears to be scared of contact and is just a selfish player, there have been so many missed try oportunities because he has had someone alongside him and he has not made the pass which had resulted in a turn over right on the opposition try line, all he offers is speed, and he's not even that fast, this is my personal opinion, i know people will disagree, he is a decent club level player and does well forthe dragons, but when it comes to international, if he is 1st choice pick, then we need to look at some of these players that Christian has mentioned in this video
I think he’s a decent player. Not on the shape of some of the amazing wingers we’ve had over the last 10 years but he’s got a bit of c factor and we are certainly missing that at the moment
@TheWelshSportsPodcast I agree that at club level he is a really good wing, and when he is playing well he is amazing, but for me at international level, he doesn't have the consistency that is needed to be able to guarantee his hold on the number 11

Louis Rees Zammit and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso would be my first choice wings for Wales...😂😂😂😂😂
It doesn’t bear thinking about mate. I’m afraid we could see more of these young guys doing what Feyi-Waboso did. Which is just frustrating, isn’t it
One advantage Kabango has is ability to change direction very quickly and get straight into his stride. He is quite a "tough" player too.
Yeah he's electric to be fair. I just worry if he keeps picking up these injuries.
I think we have these options:
Dyer
Hathaway (hopefully)
Giles
Ioan Lloyd
Adams
Cabango (small, but so are SA’s wings).
