Beautiful flowers in a very beautiful little church. Our small , old country churches are a great treasure, so much history, such quiet dignity ❤ Thanks Georgie!
Thank you georgie for that masterclass, loved the real demo rather than the wizzy wizzy, reminding me of all the best practices. The honesty speaks of your generosity in sharing. X
I have done church flowers and I took an idea from one of your past posts. I asked my husband to build two boxes, both just wide enough for jam jars. One is long enough for 5 jars ant the other longer, fitting in eight. (As an afterthought, nine or seven would have worked better.) He painted them black and I have used the longer one several times. We place our flowers on the original altar which is against the east wall. We have a beautiful standing altar built by a parishioner in front of it. The standing altar is lower than the original so the flowers show up nicely. There is a light from the ceiling that shines down on the cross and the flowers. I love the way the boxes have worked out. Thank you for the idea.
Hi Georgie my mother used to do the church flowers with roses she got out of the garden which my dad grew, you just reminded me, she died many years ago now when I was a teenager. Lovely display you made for the church, very artistically done. I enjoyed the music that was played too.
lol - I used the metal pots because that's what I have - you're right, stoneware would be attractive but I don't have any and I think the thing is to use what one has rather than spend more x
Thank you Georgie Very enjoyable clip from beginning to end. Proving you dont have to spend a fortune to achieve a lovely vase of flowers. And the light through the seed heads creates the so important element of space.. Loved the music, what was its title? An absolutely fabulous friendly looking village Church and the fact that they haven't succombed to ripping out the pews. With the moderns chairs they put in these days, where can you put the flowers going up the aisle??? The flowers at no.1 Bruton looked gorgeous in their setting. Watching your clip, better than watching tv any day😊😊 Jan uk
Thanks for sharing, our church is nearly foam free now, thanks to all the arrangers being willing to try the ideas that I put to them. Just need to try and get a suitable container that will look good for the pedestal arrangement.
Your reply of suggestion for a church pedistal using a metal container with a up side down flower basket on top, perhaps when you've nothing better to do😂 you might be able to demonstrate😊 Jan uk
It was lovely watching you arranging the flowers in natural time with all the airy lightness to show the flowers. The Bach just made it even more heavenly!
I know you are very busy but just curious if you can video a June walkabout at your mother’s garden. I just love her so much. You are blessed to have her. I find myself smiling and chuckling throughout those videos.
Thank your so much Georgie, Your little church is so lovely, treasure it, worshiping where many have worshiped over the centuries is always special. I loved the window with the Virgin Mary and child and your beautiful arrangement set it off wonderfully, It was good to see you demonstrate that you do not need to have lots of expensive flowers rammed into foam to beautify a place of worship. A note to flower ladies-- if the arrangement is anywhere near the organist check they are not allergic to any flowers-- I used to suffer when a huge arrangement of lilies used to be put next to the organ. Playing is not easy if your sneezing.
I’ve been busy getting the garden in and all the never ending spring work and haven’t had much time to watch videos. We’ve had two days of frog strangling rain so it was nice to have a break and watch your video. I really enjoyed it. All of the arrangements were beautiful but the one you put in the north window was spectacular in its simplicity and beauty. The ratio of flowers, container, and window were spot on. Thank you for the tour of your charming church. I’m a history fan and I admire old buildings. The history lesson was a bonus, lol. The town in Wyoming where my husband is from had a family of Haskells. They owned the local funeral parlor. I was planning on taking an arrangement of iris to church this Sunday but we got several bouts of hail in with the rain yesterday and it shredded them terribly. I am going to see if I can find at least a few and pair them with some greenery from our property, thanks for the idea. Have a wonderful week! TeresaSue
Ah, well, I wouldn’t call them nearby. We now live in the north part of the state of Idaho and the town my husband is from in the state of Wyoming is a good 17 hour drive east of us.😁
Your arrangements are inspiring once again. Isn't it amazing how much time goes into taking the many leaves off the Sweet William. Seems I spend almost as much time doing leaf stripping as I do taking the thorns off the roses. Have never seen you grow lilies and wonder why. They are a mainstay in my bouquets and sure are easy to prep. St. Stephen's church is so incredibly beautiful. Appreciate so much the lovely tour.
My sister and I are thinking of joining the flower rota at the the little church in Hever and you have inspired me to pursue it with your sublime flowers. I adore the Brandenburg concerti too - they remind me so much of my dear old dad who used to listen to them on an old cassette sitting in the sun way back in the seventies. Thank you
Wonderful video as always. Beautiful soothing music and floral displays perfect for the areas. If you can't see God in a flower or a tree...then you really aren't looking.
Thankyou so much I love simple flower displays I did the flowers for year in our church I never liked working with the green foam now if I get gifted lovely flowers in foam I transfer them to a vase they look so beautiful 😍
I used to do church flowers using whatever I had in the garden. One week I used euphorbia seed heads in an altar arragement not realising that they explode their seeds, which they decided to do right in the middle of the service....
Thank you very much for this wonderful video, full of interesting aspects of history, gracefulness and huge knowledge about flower arranging. What a gift!!! Have a nice week (with less rain, hopefully ;) ). Greetings from denmark!!! 🤗🌻💐
Hi Georgie, I also love Sorrel. I heard you mention it can be dried. How do I go about this please?? I have a wedding in August and I would love sorell in the arrangements.
The flowers are lovely, Georgie. I live in rural Kentucky US. The closest town is 15 miles away and is also called Somerset. Im sure there is a link and will research.
we're always juggling the house around here as the family grows up and people move in and out - having the studio up the field will give me somewhere permanent and make it all more versatile here x
Do you have the Golden Mock Orange Bush, Philadelphus Aureus? I bet you do. But, if you don’t, I highly recommend it. The foliage alone just “sings” in the garden, especially on a dark and cloudy day.😊
Floral foam is an unforgiving medium. Once a hole is made, it cannot be redone. Needlepoints/frogs or whatever they’re called where you live can be redone. Mechanics are difficult for newbies. Georgie mostly discards them for organic forms, which are lovely.
i agree, it's all about celebrating the divine gift given to us, of the natural world - and your flower arrangements remind people of that joyful truth. Your church is charming - but it's a pity that Henry VIII's henchmen no doubt would have smashed the beautiful original medieval stained glass windows to smithereens - they scorned stained glass windows as idolatry, and sadly , we'll never know just how glorious they were. It saddens me, because i am a glass artist, and studied stained glass for years. I always find it fascinating that Protestants refer to Henry's persecution of the monasteries as the 'dissolution' of the monasteries. The Catholic nuns at my convent school always described it with withering contempt, as the 'desecration' of the monasteries - same history, but a vastly different interpretation!
Funnily enough I suspect this little country church wouldn't have had much in the way of expensive stained glass, but the walls would probably have been brightly painted with stories. I wonder if we very carefully took off the lime wash we'd find the paintings underneath. We still have painted rafters on the ceilings here. And I love the fact that the Haskell brothers walked out to set off to the new world probably because they were even more Puritan than the post reformation Church of England. Though I don't know much about their history other than that they walked out and took ship to the new world so I don't know their point of view - but that would have been quite a journey to take without a strong reason xxx
I've had a lady here today from a church in Hampshire where they are almost foam free - she came for inspiration and know how and we had a great day working out mechanics which will work for her and her other church flower arranging colleagues x

Yes, you are right x
Thank you georgie for that masterclass, loved the real demo rather than the wizzy wizzy, reminding me of all the best practices. The honesty speaks of your generosity in sharing. X

Such a pretty, quiet and perfect arrangement for such a sweet old church. Oh so calming.
Glad you enjoyed it x

That’s brilliant - what a great way to use the boxes jars idea x
My favourite Christian flower farmer with her typical sense of humour. Great arrangements as always.🙏
Thankyou x
Totally with you. Excellent job. Preciously lovely! Thank you for sharing the beauty.
you're welcome x

What a lovely memory.❤
Glad you enjoyed it and Thankyou for the happy memories x
Lovely to see you arranging in real time. Can’t believe it’s a year ago I spent two happy, flowery days with you. Xx
time flies - glad you enjoy the clips - it's amazing how fast time goes x
ADORE the simple rustic arrangements! 😍 Though I will say I find the metal pots rather harsh in that setting . Pottery jars would look gorgeous!
lol - I used the metal pots because that's what I have - you're right, stoneware would be attractive but I don't have any and I think the thing is to use what one has rather than spend more x

for the pedestal I recommend a tin bucket not unlike the ones I use here with an upside down hanging basket frame on top - works a treat! x
Your reply of suggestion for a church pedistal using a metal container with a up side down flower basket on top, perhaps when you've nothing better to do😂 you might be able to demonstrate😊 Jan uk
Georgie, thank you for your inspiration. This has made my day highlighting my love of flowers and my faith ❤
you're welcome x
What an amazing video - LOVE the seeing the history of your village - thank you for sharing this!
My pleasure xxx
Love how you use light, space and colour, it’s all in the details, beautiful.
Thank you so much! x
Georgie you are always lovely inside and out
thank you x

I'll try and make a clip next time I visit - there's not always time x

such a good point about the lilies! x
Your sneezing pales into insignificance when held up to the paganism in your worship.

Glad you enjoyed the clip - how amazing you have some Haskells nearby! I hope you find enough for church on Sunday xxx

My pleasure 😊 x
Lovely church and so enjoyed the history. As always beautiful flower arrangement.
Thankyou x
Good to remind us to use the light. Lovely
thank you x
Love those colours Geogie, beautiful as always. You always open your eyes up to using stems you would ordinarily use.😊🌷🌿🌱
You’re welcome x
Absolutely beautiful - I totally agree with you about allowing the light to filter through
thank you x
Wonderful video as always. Beautiful soothing music and floral displays perfect for the areas. If you can't see God in a flower or a tree...then you really aren't looking.

Absolutely lovely in that window
Will admit I do agree x
Beautiful! Love the video and great ideas. I completely agree!
Glad you liked it!! x
Ah, Georgie, the light! Wonderful!
Thankyou x
I like the actual speed video best as I can see exactly what you're doing much better than the super fast version. Thanks!
you're welcome x
Lovely church, lovely blessing, and lovely floral arrangement!
thank you x
I used to do church flowers using whatever I had in the garden. One week I used euphorbia seed heads in an altar arragement not realising that they explode their seeds, which they decided to do right in the middle of the service....
Brilliant - I can hear it now - must have been disconcerting for the vicar x
Georgie, the music was so relaxing watching you create!! Loved it. Thank you for all you do
pleasure x
Love your tip about not overfilling and letting the light work for you .
Thankyou x
I love the leaves of the money plant!
The arrangements are very beautiful! Most of all, I love your thoughts.
Love your message ❤

Hi Georgie, I also love Sorrel. I heard you mention it can be dried.
How do I go about this please?? I have a wedding in August and I would love sorell in the arrangements.
Fabulous!!! I never knew sorrel had such lovely flowers.
Ah you’re welcome x
I love it too. Gorgeous shape and texture. Good for ikebana.
Beautiful.
Thankyou x
You have such a beautiful artistic eye x

I live in Oklahoma. There is a town named Haskell and schools in other towns named Haskell.
how fantastic! x
Lovely
Thankyou x

Ooh how interesting xxx
Gorgeous.
Thank you! 😊
I like the part about the honesty tythe!😊
Thankyou x
I always love to see your workshop. What will you use it for when you're in the new studio?
we're always juggling the house around here as the family grows up and people move in and out - having the studio up the field will give me somewhere permanent and make it all more versatile here x
Looks lovely.
thank you x
When are you moving into your new studio?I am eager to see inside x
I think we are finally on the home stretch - it's been a long haul x
Do you have the Golden Mock Orange Bush, Philadelphus Aureus? I bet you do. But, if you don’t, I highly recommend it. The foliage alone just “sings” in the garden, especially on a dark and cloudy day.😊
No I don’t - good idea xxx

true x I much prefer just vase and water x

Hi Georgia, a tithe is 10% or called “Firstfruit” it’s the best of our income.
yes! x
Lovely Georgie. Do you not split and or hammer the stems of yr flowers ?
split sometimes but never hammer x
Who does all the mowing?
At the churchyard or here at Common Farm? Here it’s Fabrizio, at the churchyard a neighbour does it x
@@theflowerfarmer your place
I have slowly ,slowly, convinced my church flower team, not to use floral foam. Not quite there yet.
I've had a lady here today from a church in Hampshire where they are almost foam free - she came for inspiration and know how and we had a great day working out mechanics which will work for her and her other church flower arranging colleagues x
I never knew that most churches faced East. Why is that?
well European churches are facing Jerusalem and so a tradition was born x
If the Haskall brothers knew the state of the US today, they would have stayed there. I would surely rather live there in these times.
I fear we are cursed with living in ‘interesting times’ all around the world these days x
Our🤣😂
I know what you mean xxx
