Another reason as if I needed more , why I am such a fan of you Georgie ! I completely agree with all that you have said so brilliant here : Shop LOCAL ! I used to have Shop myself which I ran for 14 years, we love our communities and Shop keepers try and always buy interesting and necessary things for our lovely customers to enjoy ❤ so put the Computers away and go shopping in person. It will make you feel happy and mean you will keep your local Community thriving . Don’t let Amazon be more important than The Amazon ! Bravo Georgie ! I was in Frome Wed and Thurs I can vouch for how wonderful it is there ! ❤
Georgie, this was so quaint and "human sized," and lovely. A fairy village with so many handmade and thoughtfully chosen wares. Thank you for pushing back against the grinding machinery of big box commerce that flattens one!
THANK YOU, Georgie ! Wonderful video. In my town of Fairbanks, Alaska we have a little Antique Shoppe with 20 vendors (myself included) called Blue Door Antiques. We hope our local residents will support us this season.
Thank you for this. I lived in Froome for a while nannying for the family that ran sofaworks. Lovely children. Froome is the one place I always wanted to settle. But didn't - I live in New Zealand. I understand that it has become very popular and expensive. So I couldn't afford to live there now anyway. Just as well - I would be constantly spending money in those lovely shops. Thank you for bringing back many happy memories. I still love Froome. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see some of it again.❤
What a great idea Georgi! Love meeting w a friend and taking a brisk walk around small shops and stopping fr a hot coffee especially this time of year! Seeing all the holiday decorations and talking to people. That’s what this season is all about, getting together with friends and seeing people. Great reminder to step away fr the computer and yo not just to buy anything. A small thoughtful gift for loved ones is always appreciated.
I absolutely love this, I don't have many gifts to buy this year and caring responsibilities mean I can't get to actual shops, but this is a brilliant reminder that I can support the indy shops online too, just have to be a bit more intentional about it!
Hitchin is my favourite local market town. Next weekend I'm going to explore Ampthill and Woburn, to see what interesting things I can find for presents. Thanks for the reminder! Liz
How timely, we are coming to stay in sherborne tomorrow and spend the weekend exploring finishing with Frome Market on Sunday purely due to your previous video xx
I used to work in Frome, lovely to see it looking so great and lots of new shops, the mens clothes being made onsite I especially loved. And I would have bought up half of Neighbour too!
Brilliant video Georgie and a great reminder to us all. We have the fabulous market town of Clitheroe in Lancashire which is full of independent shops. Great places to buy presents, including independent record shop, butchers, bakers, fish monger, coffee roaster, wine merchants, market and brewery as well as loads of places to have a coffee or lunch. Sadly though no book shop.
Thank you for reminding me of a lovely family holiday, many years ago, near Frome and visiting the wonderful shops. Looks like they are even better now.
Hi Georgie, thanks for this lovely tour! The shops are quite unique and cute. This is why I love the UK so much. Was in Birmingham three weeks ago. I enjoyed the British esthetic tremendously. Can't wait to return ❤❤! You have such a caring heart! Continued prosperity to you and your family! xx❤
YES! To small shops! I get to shop in Berkeley (4th Street) and Oakland (Maison d’Etre) and Carmel. Thank you, Georgie!! I just ordered a gorgeous tote from Sherlock & Pages “Long live the hedgerows”. Perfect for a gardener friend. Hmmm….Think I need one for myself, too….😁
From Miss Donna Marie Baff (dons) Superb video for the independent minded, free thinkers, brains of Britain, MENSA and the like, all inspiring us to be courageous in opening up a business, and yes byejov....no-one said it's going to be easy.... Thank you
A delight to come shopping with you, Georgie, thank you. I don't know Frome, even though I am a Somerset girl (Quantocks) but you've piqued my interest! So many lovely shops and beautiful buildings.
An absolutely inspirational blog!! Obviously Frome has moneyed residents for independent shops to thrive- but how lovely!! I’ve subscribed so I’ll be watching again n again!! Sending love from Nottingham 🧑🏼🦳🤡❤️👍
Thanks for the tag along! I’m not at all a Black Friday buyer. Never have been BUT Tuesday we got4 beautiful foldable heavy duty outdoor Adirondack chairs and 2 tables for 1/3 the regular price! We have been looking at these chairs for years and years but wouldn’t pay the money for them. So excited to get them. We retired rural out of state and there are no small shops here. I so miss being close enough to those small town shops to visit them. My mom and grandmother is/was from England and loved the old shops there.
Good for you Georgie...I always shop in my nearest town Tipperary here in southern Ireland..much better than going to the city but they do need our support..thank you for highlighting
What a wonderful place, wish we’d known about Frome last weekend! Although we had a fabulous weekend away in Tetbury and did support the local retailers there and in Bath. Need to visit Frome next year!!!🎄🤞🏻😍 Thanks 💫
Such lovely shops! I found many similar ones when I visited England and it was so much fun. Unfortunately, where I live, such shops are very rare. Most shops are huge chains and as you said it makes shopping very boring. There are several shops I have very fond memories of, where I used to go with my mother when I was a child. And now they don't exist anymore. Thank you for your contribution and active encouragement to keep local business in town!
Georgie, all of those shops were absolutely adorable! Thank you so much for taking us along with you. I too am in the States and the girl from California is correct, those type of shops are far and few between. I’m going to shop “ small business Saturday” and avoid Black Friday. I love your pearls of wisdom. ❤️🙏😊
This is just what I needed to see today, I'm going to go after Thanksgiving and have a look around my small Alaska community, feel the spirit and magic of Christmas in the air and all about, thank you and may your Christmas be bright and beautiful ❤️
Oh wise one….thank you for a wonderful video…it’s great to support local shops……..we have a fabulous little Main Street in here Gourock …all independent…and such wonderful finds within….❤
Lovely, yes we do need to support our high streets. I’d seen the Sherlock and Pages 5000 books on Instagram, wanted to get there but won’t have time before Christmas, so I bought a book from them online instead. Hope they are getting there! Totnes is always good for independent shops.
Great vlog supporting the small shops!❤ I live in Montana, USA, my little town is an old style western gem, lovey little shops, . everyone knows each other. And we have one of the best Thrift shops on the planet, my boss gets me a gift certificate for the thrift shop every Xmas, !!
I always shop at independent shops--that is the most fun way to shop (touch and feel). When shopping in a mall, every store has cheap tat mostly and the music is so loud your ear bleed. Online is very impersonal too--I love to chat with the owner of shops etc. But must say Georgie you have helped me with your little shopping adventure. I wanted a specific wreath I had in my head. My local florist just couldn't grasp what I wanted, said "bring me a picture". When I checked out Bramble &Wild I found EXACTLY the wreath I want. Being in Canada, I am out of luck getting it there, but at least my florist will see what I want. Then checked out Shakespeare & Pages and oh my gosh, their selection on line is amazing. I shall help them get to their 5K mark (every bit helps and I have already seen about 5 I am going to get ( loved the She Wolves book you had too). We must all do our part to help the small business owner no matter how. Otherwise one day we shall turn around and be stuck with nothing but conglomerates. Oh Georgie, I too love writing (stationary shops), do check out Porch Fairies there in the U.K only--they have AMAZING cards (the quality is incredible too). I get all my cards from them:)--they are a small publisher of cards.
Thank you for this video, because I have been a person who has had my own 5 arts and crafts shops (one at a time), selling local work by local makes in West Devon, England. But I had to close the shops (one of which I had a tea shop in) as I could not afford the rent anymore, and folk were just not coming in and buying things due to the internet buying. We have Hatherleigh, and Okehampton nearby - both of which need your support for the independent shops to keep going - Hatherleigh has a market every Tuesday. Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx
Loved this. So wish it was longer tho. Such lovely shops. Not enough near me tho😩, but a few Do have a great local chocolate shop. 😂 ( Donaldson) in indiana so important to shop, local and keep these places in business
This Friday will be my last day in my little indie vintage shop in Somerton after 9 years trading - all the fittings going to general auction in Glastonbury. I have had to submit to doing a black Friday sale, merely because my house is now stacked to the ceiling with all the shop stock.
My local shops in France are so different, we have artisan markets, and Christmas markets. I'm so looking forward to coming back in April, although my husband is getting worried at my list.🤫
Filled with shame that I don't shop at Frome but instead head to boring Bath. I'm off to get all my xmas stuff from Frome - fab video. PS going to see how much that wonderful tailor would charge for a hand made piece for my son.
