Awesome job Rob 👏The red is a bit bright 😁 but I'm _so_ glad you didn't pick out the debossed lettering and logo in another colour, I generally hate that as i think it too often cheapens the overall look ....and of course it's not how (most? all?) vices originally looked anyway, so I don't know why so many 'restoration' fans like it haha.
An E-clip works great for the screw. Nice job on this vise! Looks great! (Also I've found cold weld to be quite useful in repairing cast! It's a lot stronger than I thought.)
@@Robs-shop it's great stuff. I use JB weld. It's like a 2 part steel epoxy. Supposed to be good for 5000psi, I use it to fill deep dents/gouges/saw marks that I'm painting over. You can also "texturize" it to match cast metals by pressing sand paper into it before it's fully dried. Anyways, love your work! ✌️
"Most machinists" is way overstating it. Sure, brazing is a solid choice and definitely can stand the test of time but there are numerous welding materials specifically made for or suitable for repairs to cast iron; some options have been sold since before WW2. It's possible at the professional end welding is done _more_ than brazing.
My thoughts where that the contact area should be metal to metal and some kind of lubricant of coarse. I figured that paint would just wear off from use.
It’s his vice and his video who cares if you don’t want to hear the narration. There are probably 100’s of other vice restoration videos with no narration 🤷🏼♂️
I love these old vise restoration videos. Nice job Sir.
Thank you!
Good job.
Thank you!
Looks good man.

Thanks! Yeah I’m not a fan of that either, I think it makes it look cheap too

Thanks! I’ll have to look into cold weld

Nice job, came out nice.
Sweet vise! 👌😍
Thanks!
That's downright impressive. I mean... Wow!
Thanks!
That’s beautiful!!!
Thanks for watching!
Would have liked to have seen the raised-lettering/surfaces highlighted with a accent color. Nice job, the vise looks awesome?
Thanks! I thought about doing that but I decided not to.
1:30 First time I've seen a vise jaw held in with just one bolt...interesting!
Yeah kinda different
I came looking for the solution to the missing retainer clip thing and left with the bonus tape/hammer trick...thanks!
👍
Just for future reference, most machinists recommend brazing for cast iron repairs and yes, preheating the casting is important for a quality repair.
I have heard that, I have brazed a little bit but am looking into learning more about it. My next project like this I will definitely braze. 👍

@@tungsten_carbide Thanks for sharing.
12:12 Why didn't you mask-off the contact surface of the swivel base prior to painting?
My thoughts where that the contact area should be metal to metal and some kind of lubricant of coarse. I figured that paint would just wear off from use.
07:30. I'm asking "Why doesn't he finish getting that green paint off?". 😋😋
Hahaaa 😂
Show piece....hmmm Check out Meine Mechaniker channel for show pieces.
I definitely did not restore it to be a show piece. I’ll check out his channel 👍
Nobody cares about your narration during the video. Just the video like the Restoration guy's do. Beautiful Vise by the way, nice work.
I’ll keep that in mind, thanks!
