Nice work on an interesting old vise. I like a vise with a big anvil. Good work!

I have a large one of these in need of a restoration. Not sure if I want to mess with it as the sliding to the rear mechanism doesn’t really make sense for a good bench vise. No clamping vertically.

Bench vises are designed to be mounted as in this image i.stack.imgur.com/fh2V9.jpg so that long work pieces may be held. But the movable jaw of your vise is over the table so such an arrangement is not possible.

Different vises are made for different purposes. This one is made specially for a machinist so they won't be working on such large pieces. But that is still a good image to keep in mind when mounting traditional style vises!
