Once I got my first pair of cobras I knew knipex was the way to go. Then I tried their 1000v insulated lineup and omg I put all of my kleins and Milwaukee hand tools in my shed and kept the knipex.

Nice job my friend. After giving it a hammer finish it looks great. Considering they now charge $60 to $75 for copper jaws these days your time was well spent.

I never hear anyone talk about the 10x mechanical advantage that you get at the jaws . You can really clamp down on what ever you are grabbing.

When you think about it, they aren't expensive. They save time, and effort (and your knuckles). Plus, unlike adjustable wrenches or open ended wrenches, they don't round fasteners up, damage compressor shafts, or mess up the finish of chromed fittings.

  • @DDayDark

Well, the reason they are good is the way it clamps. They act like a lever at the jaws creating a reduction = more force, the only con that I see with them the range of movement with each adjustment so you need to be more exacted to get it to clamp but when they clamp down it's with a lot of force more than what you're outputting with your hand.

I found those are just a crescent wrench with extra steps. I do love the pump pliers, but a really wide jaw adjustable wrench does everything the flat jaw will do.

Reminds me of making one out of aluminum in college. Several radius sections on it, and all had to be done by hand with a file to match the radius gauges. If you do something in copper again and want it more malleable heat it up with a torch. Copper work hardens.

puting upper and lower shafts is a pain, i got a 005 tahoe,i check the fitness of the shafts before installment; i ended up sanding, grinding the upper and the inside of the lower, the i tried to remove the upper by removing the boot and was a pain, tahoe figuration is diferent than silverado, finnally i did it, then, after separeting the shafts, i removed the old lower, and on top of that, the new lower was round, my steer box shaft is not round, so, i went back to my old lower, and then, my new upper didn't fit the old lower IT WAS A NIGHTMARE !! AFTER 3 OR 4 HOURS I FINISH THIS NIGHTMARE JOB, NOW I'M WAITING FOR OTHER LOWER SHAFT, (THE RIGHT ONE)
