Miele TwinDos: Using Your Own Detergent/Softener

  • My TwinDos 1 & 2 cartridges ran out so I thought I would try using my own detergent and softener in the Miele WKR 771 WPS.
    Note that you'll need to have purchased the TwinDos Refill Containers since these can easily be refilled, and you'll need to use them to perform the maintenance/flush the TwinDos system before switching detergents. I ran a QuickPower Wash programme after to confirm the system was working.
    One thing to bear in mind is that if you have any favourite programmes stored with TwinDOs options, it will ask to confirm which agents you wish to use after changing the detergent.

    Im about to buy a Miele and cant decide whether to get a TwinDos model. If I use their 2 liquids, do I then also have to add fabric conditioner in the drawer? My understanding was the 2nd tub is a bleach detergent rather than fabric conditioner. Can you set the amount of liquids to dispense for each individual programme, or its just one setting for all programmes? Thanks

    • @sabistar44
      @sabistar44  5 лет назад +3

      Personally, I have no regrets with the twindos system. Miele's detergent is superior and wash results never disappoint. I haven't been as impressed with any other detergent, and I've tried a lot. You are correct, if you use the Miele Ultraphase 1 + 2 then you have to add conditioner as normal. If you decide to switch, you tell the machine how much to add for normal soiling. It will then calculate for heavy or light soiling. Hope that helps and good luck with your purchase!

    My Miele WCJ670 is broke because of using own detergent. I cleaned it regularly but it broke after 3 years. My co-worker is only using original miele detergent bottles and has had no issues for over 7 years. I can still wash without TwinDos but i bought it because it's easier to use. Repairing it will cost me around half of a new washing machine which is to much for me right now. I was using detergent in no. 1 and softener in no.2. Only compartment 1 is broken now.

      The Miele washer with twindos system has a built in platinum sensor to measure temp. I think it use that temp information to mix the detergent 1&2. This sensor will corrode and fail, mine happened every 2 years. I never use other detergent except Miele twindos detergent. If that sensor goes. TWINDOS feature won’t work. You have to replace the expensive sensor or use normal detergent.
      Beside this issue, it’s a good washer.

    Hi, i have bosh idos washing machine, but imconfused, i see that you used the amount for large washer, i don't know if i have to use the normal ml of detergent, because user manual say like that "use normal amount adviced on detergent label", like 55 ml, but mine i have to consider the extra 35 for larger machine? I used 65 for 4-5 kg and the wash was soapy enogh i think is that the right to chose, because it will adjust considering the weight of the clothes the type of them and the stain on them

    • @megakeule
      @megakeule 3 года назад +3

      Very good question. It's a shame that the manual does not mention how to setup the ml properly if you are not using the Miele products. Does the machine assume you always enter the value for s standard load (4,5kg) and increases the dosage automatically of does it expect you to enter the value for the maximum possible load (9 kg). Not knowing what is correct will cause massive over- or underdosage. Miele, please clarify!

      Hello - it depends on the load. A small load takes about 1:15 but a larger about 2.5hrs. There is a "Short" option so you can manually reduce the time. • @enguerranddemarigny
      @enguerranddemarigny 4 года назад +1

      Hi Bunky's ! What a Lucky guy your are ! I brought the WCR 860 WPS last november. It's the chrom edition indeed. I'm french, I paid 1450€. I have chosen this model because it was the "cheapest" to have the 59' powerwash program AND the drum light (which doesn't operate during a washing program).The fascinating detail is the spinning end process. The end of the spinning is almost instantaneous because of the profieco induction engine.The two things I still have not used are the steam finish for shirts and the Wi-Fi remote control.Another detail. For 365€ Miele secure your washing machine (parts, trips and labour) for 8 years. Plus the 2 years regular warranty, it's a 10 years warranty. You MUST register it within the first 30 days after the purchase. I paid for it because the WCR 860 WPS is full digital dashboard. In general it's the electronic parts which fail first. And the cheapest Miele repair service intervention does cost 350€, at least in France.A last thing, I did put an magnetic anti limescale (wpro).Greetings from France

      @sabistar44  3 года назад

      I have no personal experience. There are some videos on here - after each drying cycle you have to perform a maintenance wash to remove the fluff - waste of water and electricity in my view. Also, the washer dryers use the old system of heated elements, they are not heat pump so will use more electricity. The biggest issue for the me is capacity - there is no 9kg version only 8kg wash which is 5 kg dry - I'd rather have a full 9kg capacity for both. Remember also that it will take several hours to complete - I prefer to be able to use the washer on many different programmes whilst the dryer is drying. I guess if space is the biggest issue, but for me I'm happy with the stack.

    But did you know that clothes softener are one of the worst offenders in terms of chemical load? Everything that goes on our skin (i.e. products we use for out clothes) go in our body and affect our body systems. Oh I didn't know that - is that new?
    So essentially, Miele now supports 3rd party stuff, and after inserting it into the compartments, you can configure in the machine what it is (universal detergent, color detergent, wool detergent, softener ....) and also enter how much of it is appropriate as per the manufacturer.
    So basically, Miele TwinDos now doses from two compartments, very precisely, based on your accurate input of the detergent or softener.
    Is that correct?
    That's pretty cool I have to say!

      Two things I don't like though is that there is no fragrance to it, or very subtle and I've noticed the Ultraphase 2 tends to put some holes in clothes, being oxygen bleach I guess. But it really is the best performing detergent. I've used some of the Caps too, for woolens especially which smell great. Not sure either that I'd go to the expense of using fabric conditioner in cap form though, too expensive! You've done opposite way to me, I got the machine first which just made my old drier seem so lacking in performance and energy hungry. I have a Miele fridge and after a lotto win or organ donation would like a hob and oven!! Let me know if you have any more queries on this model, happy to help :)

    • @nicholaswheeler3985
      @nicholaswheeler3985 6 лет назад +1

      sabistar44 yeah I think that’s true of using a bleach based product whoever manufactures it. I get holes in more delicate fabrics. I agree the caps do seem a bit of a con. I’d probably use the down one for pillows. I got the TD first because my old one really was old. Very power hungry, so I could justify replacing that more. Washing machine is about 5 years old. No powder in the TwinDos just liquid. You can still use powder in the drawer I guess. I use powder for delicartes now since the machine won't let me use the TwinDos for delicate cycles, until I change back to the Miele detergent...

    miele in united states doesn’t sell the empty bottles so i can refill with my own detergent. They only want consumer to use the twin dos bottles which is expensive and i prefer to use my one detergent. I’ll have to buy the empty refill bottles when i visit family in Barcelona.

      Hi - that's a shame. You know the actual Twindos bottles themselves are pretty strong - could you get someone to put a hole in them for you? Then you can fill with your own detergent? Just a thought, but be careful :)

      You can use the same Twindos bottles when empty. Remove the cap with tiny holes from the top and reuse it, it does the job too.

      @@bethaustin1884 in the instruction manual you should get an indication of which detergent is best for each wash. As for the amount of detergent you have to set this in the machine settings following the amounts given in the label of your detergent.

    Why would anyone want to use this expensive gimmick!! Powder detergent is best and will give anyone vastly superior results to any liquid detergent!!!

      Perhaps it's my very hard water, but I have found no other detergent as effective, this really works and works out cheaper too, the cartridges last a long time.

      @@Asty1980 if using a standard dose, they last 37 loads each (for phase 1 according to miele) and 70 loads each (for phase 2 ). you can use less if your water is not hard. also the dosage was recently reduced form 48 to 46 ml for a 7-9 kg load.
