I think we need a big super trainer shootout
Endorphin speed 3
Puma deviate nitro 2
Adidas Boston 12
ASICS magic speed 3
To the victor the spoils (my wallet!) 😅
I am also deciding between puma DN2 and adidas boston 12 :))
I think Adidas might just have peaked. The Adios 8 is getting rave reviews too. The Pro 3 is great. An amazing line up.
Yep one of the best out there
Pro 3 is phenomenal. I’m currently in an entire adidas rotation. Sen 9, AP3, and prime X strung
First run today, 5 mile interval tempo session. Really impressed, feel great underfoot and good at all paces
I have really flat feet with a REALLY wide midfoot and find it hard to find a shoe with enough room without spilling off the side of the arch. I usually go for 2E but even that doesn't help. Can you think of any running shoes that have that wide midfoot. The only shoes that I've found that fit are the New Balance 860 in a 2E (I find that stability features help). Just tried the saucany tempus in a wide but even they are too narrow. Any advice would be truly appreciated.
Would love to see this vs the new Newbalance SC trainer v2 when you get it 😊 And maybe a ‘super trainer’ round up included things like the Endorphin speed 3 and the Magic speed 3 as well
I have them and that video is in coming
Thanks for review! This is a must buy. More stable than Speed 3 and can do everything, means it can be both a trainer and racing shoe for marathon. 😃 But I still wonder how they managed to make 10 and 11 so bad. 😆
yeah i know how could 10 and 11 just be so wide off the mark
10 & 11 was too firm , lightstrike 2.0 helps fix that issue. I wouldn't have mind if they kept the same stack height of the 10/11
Put 2 run’s through it this weekend. Everything Fordy says is on point. Did a short slow plod and a long run with goal pace, does everything effortlessly
not stiff?
Thanks for backing me up
Thank you for another great review. I experienced a lot of issues in the past with my feet e.g. Plantar Fasciitis etc. Switched to the three stripe at the start of the year and found that all my niggles had disappeared. Can't wait to get my hands on the new Boston.
You’ll love them
i definitely agree. i took them on a faster 8 miler and they felt quite effortless. I have the Boston 11 and it's a completely different shoe.
I probably wouldn't use them for recovery runs or would steer away if you're a slower runner; this is definitely a performance trainer like the ES3.
The lacing system isn't my favorite but it worked well enough. The heel system has no padding, which may irritate some.
Good point the foam for some silly reason doesn’t go all the way round but it’s no biggy for me luckily enough
So it’s too harsh fir easy / slow runs?
@@vtru2743 it’s not too harsh, but I feel it pushes you to go faster, which is not what you want for recovery days. Also it does take some speed to get those rods to flex. Just my 2 cents
The adizero is always light and that energy rods and lisghtstrike pro will always push u forward. I only use this for the tempo and all speed. I don't treat it as a daily trainer where u can laze leisurely and do more heel strike. It's not for beginners thinking running is easy. Just my 2 cents.
Been having runner's knee every time I use this. Had to stop and sell mine, sadly.
I have the Novablast 3 right now but want something that help me maintain speed a bit more… is this better or should i go for Adios Pro 3? I want to use it for something like a Daily trainer but also for races
Thanks for the video! Any early verdict of the Boston against the Mach X?
this is better
Received it and took it out on a short run even though my Garmin told me to stay home and rest. Haha. Couldn't resist. Took it real easy just to get an initial impression and it's exactly as you say - including the weird tongue and lacing system. I don't think I've dialed it in properly yet but I'm sure I'll get there. Overall, it feels great and is such a massive improvement over the Boston 11. I had been using the 11 for the occasional treadmill runs at the gym but I don't think I'll even do that anymore. The 12 looks like it'll become my main daily trainer now.
Enjoy
Looking forward to the end of season deals on these. Pretty much never buy Adidas on release nowadays because their discounts are always amazing
Yeah even using my code you can get 10% off already
30% off now on Adidas US
Ordered last week through Adidas site in the US and will receive today. Very excited as I'm a huge fan of the TOTL Adizero shoes: PXS, AP3, and TS8. But, I didn't care for the Boston 11 and the Adios 7 was just okay. It seems Boston 12 is the "proper" daily trainer that we've been waiting for from Adidas. And it sounds like Adios 8 will be the ideal speed/tempo trainer. Adidas is making all the right moves and the best seems yet to come with the PXS 2 and the AP and TS with Strung uppers eventually.
Enjoy
Better than magic speed 3 and endorphin speed 3?
This vs. propel v4?
Which one are you choosing for your liking Boston 12 or the FuelCell Propel v4?
Tough comes down to cost
it really is a phenomenal shoe. it holds pace so well. now if adidas could just make a GOOD LACING SYSTEM. I mean ffs go look at their German brothers at puma on how do a lock down and copy it.
Exactly!
Loving mine…..perfect blend with the midsole 👌. Mach X just arrived though 👀
Not overwhelming the Mach x
Not digging the Mach X, Fordy? Looking forward to first thoughts on that one. Just pulled the trigger on the Bostons.
Can you go a bit more on the stability? I have and love the Superblast because you get some of that awesome but without feeling all over the place. Compare to Superblast?
The superblast is a marathon training machine! This is much for daily focused with no issues of stability
Just ordered a pair for $112(down from $160) using their 30% off promotional code, CELEBRATE
very nice use of the 2 different camera angles 🙂 and very good video as usual
Thank you very much!
I agree, I'm loving the Boston 12! Guess I need to try thr Pro 3. If anyone has tried the old New Balance FuelCell TC, it reminds me of that shoe.
Try it
In the minority but loved the Boston 10 as was a good stable workhorse so this version might not work for me now 😔
I think you’ll like them
I like both the 10 and 11; likely getting the 12 too, along with another pair of 11s at huge discount.
Me too! The Boston 10 has been a great shoe for me, not the lightest but it's not a race shoe and it's done a great job for me on the long runs. No pain, great grip and very stable. In saying that, I've ordered a pair of 12s and love the LSP foam in the Pro3s and TKS9s, so hoping the BST12 will be just as good with the updates.
My pair arrived this afternoon along with a new pair of nimbus 25s, can't wait to get out in them 😀
Hero
More stable than the Speed 3? How is the upper fit vs the speed? Width and length?
Yep and all good on all of those
Any benefit over Adios Pro 3 apart from price?
Pro is the race day shoe
@@FordyRuns Is Boston better for training?
with the demise of my beloved Zoom Fly 3/4, and with Adidas making size 14 in their fast shoes now, I had the Boston and Pro 3 on deck. But... with everyone hating on Boston 10/11, I was thinking that probably means I would like it for marathon training to replace my Zoom Fly 4. Is the 12 as stable as the 11 that's $50 on amazon? #bigbonedflatfootedrunner
I know you love the Superblast and Boston 12. It seems like you prefer the B12 because of the price. At equal price, what do you think? PS: Nice video 😊
Never heard an Adidas shoe get such high praise, you've sold it to me
Let’s go
Just bought a pair of Noosa Tri 14s (£80!) these will have to wait...
Bargain
A must have shoes
I’m running between 3-5-7 k on two three days a week. And I debating between Adios 8 and Boston 12 which you prefer
Peoples points of views vary from shoe to shoe and how the react to peoples running styles paces and goals.
Took a gamble and ran Back to back sessions 31km on long run day. Ran it through the everything i could think of.
Safe to say it ticked all the boxes for me. Easy run, Hills, zoned runs threshold and Race pace intervals and the kitchen sink. Legs felt good the next day. Think im gunna buy another pair and try use for shorter distance stuff. Had the boys playing with my shoes after the workout🤣
Is it a narrow fit? Found this with Adidas trainers before?
Same question. The Takumi Sen 8 and 9 are super narrow for me. I get blisters 5km in. Does this work for those Medium to Wide feet?
This is not narrow. It’s more wide than previous versions (10-11), probably as wide as Adios Pro 3 or even a little more
Mine are fine no probs
Hi Fordy! How the Boston 12 compares with the Deviate Nitro 2? Which one do you prefer?
Boston is better
@@FordyRuns That's quite a bold statement. Thank you.
@@francescocipullo3436 no point sitting on the fence 🤣
My fear: what about stability. Am a mild pronator, my salvation would be the middle ridge that splays in the heel. But since you say it’s more stable than the Speed 3 (which I have), than Im sold.
The midsole is 100% better than v10-11. Outsole is always great, I find the upper just a bit too course and the tongue too thin. Overall a great shoe to run in.
Got myself down from too many shoes to 3 just puma shoes (forever run, velocity 2 and deviate nitro elite) and was a happy bunny as they are all awesome, then last week I had to bite when prime x strung were available for just over £130 from sportsshoes with discount code - these were like a bucket list shoe for me, they arrived today and I'm probably not fast enough for them and will probably break an ankle finding out.... and now you make me want to buy these too......
No question of being fast enough wear what you want
Prime X is a wild shoe. If you can tame it (land more forefoot than midfoot) it'll keep you on your toes and flying along with much less perceived effort than almost any shoe ive ever worn.
This is so good to hear. The last 2 models were just terrible! Probably going to wait until Adidas puts these on a random 30% discount here in the US 🤣 but this review has sold me on getting back into the Boston shoe! Thanks Fordy!!!!!
Welcome and yes they were awful.
@@FordyRuns PS I just bought my pair in the US. 30% off as an Adidas Club member (Code CELEBRATE) and an additional 15% from Capital One. $88USD Probably the best buy of 2023, maybe ever!!!!
The boston 12 apparently does have carbon rods. I heard there was a press release error when they announced it.
I'm going to get some of these to replace my saucony speed 3.
Good shout
@@FordyRuns £125 with your discount. Can't argue with that.
Hmm I’m a huge fan of the Speed and prices are coming down now. Intrigued to give this one a try… is the speed more springy and potentially better at workouts and Boston more stable / cruiser?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
thanks
Went right off the Boston 10, adios 6, sl20. Literally anything with Lightstrike. It was my first “super trainer” been wanting to love it just got ruined by hurting my feet; also by buying the Zoom fly3, endorphin speed 2, magic speed 2 super trainers. Also I still wish they’d carry on making the zoom fly 3 the OG super trainer carbon plated trainer with latest recycled zoom x.
Basically I’ll skip a couple gen’s of Adidas as the adios pro 2 (two versions blue, and yellow had proper dodgy sizing and whichever adidas shoe I use the lacing sucks and heel slips.
I have just come home from my first run in the Boston 12 - ran at a mix of speeds to try and get the measure of them . They are great. Honestly, I think they are much better than the Speed 3 - cumulatively i have done over 1500km in Speed 3s and Pro 3s. For me The Lightstrike foams are head and shoulders above the PWRRUN foam in the Saucony - firmer and much more responsive. The Boston 12 seems a versatile shoe - I wouldn't waste it on easy and recovery runs - this is where he Cumulus 25 will work (the Cumulus 25 cannot do anything but easy stuff), you could do quicker workouts (I would use the Takumi Sen 9 for out and out speed), you could do a HM in it although I would probably want a tad more cushioning and snap for HM and above.
Is boston 12 really suitable for running full marathon? Thank you
@@vietblack if you are on a budget and cannot afford to buy super shoes, then they are a great all rounder. You could easily do a marathon in them.
In two minds whether to get a pair of Boston 12’s or speed 3’s as I’ve got a few different carbon shoes for races but want a normal shoe for everyday.
@@aaroncooper8464 Adidas foam is less squishy than the Saucony foam. I actually prefer the Speed 2 to the Speed 3. They are more durable and the fit is better for me. The Boston 12 is cheaper too..
I had a pair of speed 2’s a while ago and we’re good but if they are better than the 3’s it will prob be the adidas bostons then. I also have the adios pro 3 and they are good but want to start to train in an everyday.
Chris, Boston 12 vs Superblast? Softer, firmer? Stability similar? Advantages, disadvantages?
These are cheaper and at £125 offer amazing value
@@FordyRuns yes, but do I need them if I have Superblast already?
Thanks 💙
Naah. Just pulled trigger on the ( discounted) white and blue Puma Deviate Nitro 2 👌
Be an interesting Vs video though!?
Great work as always Fordy 👍
Thanks mate
Are these Boston 12 shoes comfortable to use for FM races?
What would you suggest between Adios 8 and Boston 12 for 5k to 10k runs?
I’ve not tried the Adios 8
These vs Endorphin speed 3? They’re simply getting too expensive
Speed 3 anyday if you are not running on slippery and wet roads!
DO NOT BUY THIS SHOE!!!
Boston 12…. How can you make an upper so bad??? Really think they are on to something with this midsole and glass fibre rods but that upper!!!! First Run 8 mile run and will never wear them again. The material across the toe box is constrictive and the heel cup is a disaster. The heel cup from what I can see consist of three pieces of plastic or stiffer inner material. I know this because I have 3 blister on each heel. The shoe was even uncomfortable to walk around in. When you spend over £100 on a pair of shoes and have to consign them to the bin after 8 miles is ridiculous.
Sorry to hear this. I’ve had no issue btw
@@FordyRuns it’s an easy fix for Adidas on the next iteration. I have glued padded bicycle handlebar tape down the seam of the heel cup. No more rub but not want you want to be doing
thank you for this review... just ordered mine :)
I was so disappointed with the Boston 11, super stiff and uncomfortable. The only good point was the life of the rubber sole. This model sound very different
that nonsense heavy shoe😂I did a marathon with it,was beat up but pulled thru
This is like a completely different shoe
I like the fit and upper of the 11... But yeh, it's not forgiving...
@@skobodabaws8946so u didn’t like the Boston 12
@@gonzaloespinoza5426 I meant 11 , not 12 don't have that one as yet
How much Lightstrike PRO is in the heel? Yes, it is visible at the side but in the previous v10/11 there was hardly any actual Lightstrike PRO under the heel. Only the sidewall rises of the foam was Lightstrike PRO. It was a bit dishonest. I wonder if it is still the same.
Feels like a nice blend of both
@@FordyRuns I went to the store to check today. As in previous versions the Lightstrike PRO foam is really on the raised sidewall as in previous versions. There is hardly any under the heel. Maybe a mm or two. I didn't yank the strobel to check.
The good things is that Lighstrike 2.0 foam (underneath the PRO layer) is now softer vs 1.0 and it is what is giving the extra comfort that is lacking from 10/11.
This as really got me thinking now 🤣 im a one shoe kinda guy and my novablast 3s are coming to the end of there life, a was just bout to order saucony speed 3 but this vid has got me thinking🤔🤣
These are so versatile
Great video Chris. Is it a marathon shoe? Tempted with the pro 3. Got me thinking
Hopefully the outsole isn't a small rock magnet. That outsole pattern was a PITA on the Adios 6, had to pry out small pebbles after every run. Which they seemed to improve on the Adios 8, not sure why they didn't use the same outsole pattern on the Boston 12 as the new Adios 8. Hopefully it's a non-issue on the Boston....nick picking, I know.
It’s not an issue I’ve found
Is the upper material the same as the Boston 11? I heard there were issues with the upper tearing after like 100 miles for a lot of people. =/
Let’s see
Can you do a Boston 12 vs Magic Speed 3? Also, would you try the Tri Noosa 15 anytime soon?
Keep up the good work with all the great content! Thank you
Hi thanks - tri noosa I’m just getting upto mileage to review
@@FordyRuns sounds great! Have ordered both the Boston 12 and Noosa Tri 15. Looking for a bit lighter/faster shoe to combine with my Saucony Tempus.
Looking forward to your review of the Noosa.
I love the Pro 3…..this is tempting……very very tempting……
It’s a great compliment to that shoe
My hero , 😂 I was hoping you’d love it as we’ve been waiting for a decent update for eternity and finally a training partner for the adios pro3

Just tried the FORDYRUNS discount code at Start Fitness and it doesn't work for the Boston 12's any more.... (does on other items).. maybe too many people were buying them after this video??
Should work will check maybe try again?
@@FordyRuns yeah it's working for me now..
It’s working I asked
Super daily trainer. The only thing to do in version 13 is add more LSP and remove those thick lace loops
Yep
Great midsole, horrendous upper.
The upper could do with some tweaking
Chris did you say 6.5 mm offset? That's unusually low for Adidas. They're usually 10mm.
yep and why .5???
@@FordyRuns That's what I thought I heard. Thx for clarifying. Cheers
Just ordered my pair cause of FORDY!! Greetings from TEXAS 😎
I’m
Coming to Austin in November
@@FordyRuns I’m 8 hrs away but I hope you enjoy the BBQ while you are there !
@@FordyRuns btw, got my pair in and 🤌🏽 you were right !! Thanks again!
I just couldn’t vibe with the Boston 12, which sucks because the midsole feels fantastic. The upper, tongue, and lacing system were non-starters for me. My right foot is slightly wider than my left and it felt constricted in the mid foot, and even my lower volume left foot couldn’t get totally comfortable. The tongue and completely wacky lacing system just killed the shoe. The tongue folds and bunches and then the laces are all but impossible to deal with. Hopefully they don’t change the midsole, but redo the upper on v13. For now, the 12 is a regrettable pass for me.
Fair enough
adidas really struggles with lacing in general. It ruins many of their shoes because you just struggle to get the right fit and lock down.
Hi, I wondering between this and the Saucony Triumph 20 (on sale now). Do you have a preference?
These
@@FordyRuns Thanks for the response Fordy, much appreicated 👍
Is this any good as a winter runner?
Thank goodness they're back.
Yep
I loved the old Boston series up until the 10, although truth be told, they wouldn't cut it in today's shoe market. Didn't run in the 10 or the 11, but just got my pair of the 12's and this thing is great. Everything that Fordy says is spot on. The shoe is super versatile - it can go slow or fast and feels great underfoot. It just lets you do what you want. I wish the upper was a little less flimsy and the heel was a little more traditional, but for the summer months, the ventilation will be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to put a ton of miles on these. Also love that it's soft enough, but not super-squishy.
Yeah I love how it feels under foot
An actual usable daily from Adidas 🙂, kiddie roller skate laces seems to be common with their shoes (same with the sen 8 too).
yeah the laces only thing that lets it down
I disagree: the only shoe you need in 2023 is the PUMA Deviate Nitro 2. It does everything the Boston 12 does, but better. Similar setup, high level foam under the forefoot, standard in the heel, supported by a carbon infused nylon plate, Pumagrip outsole with massive grip and durability. Plus it is cheaper and weighs less.
Interesting thanks appreciate the opinion I like it. How many miles you get through the Boston 12?
I have both!
@@MateuszPatyk - which would you say is better Deviate nitro 2 or the boston 12?
Deviate 2 is a great all rounder indeed, but too soft for me.
I have the puma.. As a heavier runner the plate goes quick and leave my feet in pain after 15k..but Adidas shoes toe box is awful for wider feet
Really enjoying the Boston 12. The tongue isn't great and makes it a pain to put the shoes on without it folding over, but once the shoe is on the tongue stays in place.
totally agree
Great review was hoping this turned out a good one after the shocking 10/11.
Most improved brand of last 24 months imo.
Yep 100%
Definitely an improvement over the previous models!
Totally agree
Well I never. Adidas have upped the game 😮

It's def an improvement over the last two versions, but some reviews report a prominent heel slipage and issues with the lacing configuration. I think the pume deviate nitro 2 is a far better shoe, carbon plated of course and you can find it at a lower price. I've got my pair for 87euros! Excellent vlog though!
Yes because if the lack of foam at the back but I’ve had zero probs but maybe I’m just lucky 🤣
How would this compare to Magic Speed 3
Better
With these improvements it might almost be good enough to be considered.
Not by me tho. Deviate Nitro 2, cheaper, softer, lighter, better grip, proper lock down and no "adidas fit"
Like that! Adidas fit!
Would this be a good racing shoe for somebody with moderate overpronation? The Endorphin Pro 2s are a little too weak ankled for me.
