"Yesterday, I completed a Half Marathon in 1 hour and 28 minutes. Since it wasn't a goal race for me, I decided not to push for a maximum effort. I opted for the Adidas Boston 12 over the Takumi Sen 8, Vaporfly Next 2, or Deviate Nitro Elite 2. The reason is simple: I find them more comfortable than the others, and they can handle all the paces I'm capable of running. The Boston 12 has quickly become one of my favorite running shoes, and I can't wait to use them in future races, workout or long runs."
Totally agree. Suits better For me thank the azizero pro 2 or 3.. More stable than the 2 and a lot lot more comfortable than the 3. Handles gravel better than two as well.. Half price. What more do you need :)
For someone who ran in Deviate Nitro 2 and Boston 12, I prefer Boston 12 for a variety of workouts, especially speed sessions and there are ONLY 7 grams of difference between the shoes which is hard to call one shoe light other one not light enough. Midfoot and forefoot strike feels more natural and rolls more smoothly compared to other daily trainers I've tried. But also shoe has some drawbacks such as subpar upper.
Strange that the Boston 12 just doesn’t work for some people whilst others love it. I’m in the latter camp - best all round shoe I’ve tried in a long time and a perfect partner to the Adios Pro 3. Handles all my 18-24 mile long runs and 6-10 mile faster Tempo’s to perfection. In no way an easy day shoe for me… Deviate Nitro 2 has a more comfortable upper but no way near as fast and as good at holding pace for long runs. Takumi Sen 9 only works for short and fast intervals and track work for me. Only other thing I’d say is I found the Lightstrike Pro needs to break in for at least 20-30 miles…
Agreed to each their own, and lots of shoes are over hyped , running is still hard and training plus diet matters more than the shoe. I think adios Boston 12 is a very good trainer and one folks should try out.
It’s because people expect a workout shoe to have 55 millimeters of stack 3 full length carbon plates 7 energy rods an extremely aggressive roll and only 150 grams
Larger framed runner here (205 lbs) and appreciate that kofuzi mentioned larger runners than him may like Boston 12 more . I love the adios pro 3 and got Boston 12 and find it to be a very capable training parter and like that foam supports my weight without collapsing. I have tried saucony speed 3 and deviate nitro 2 and prefer the Boston 12 for tempo mid distance workouts.
Being 5’9 and around 190-200, the B12s have been my favorite shoe to run in in the last 3 year. I tried giving the Endorphin Speed 3s a try but I felt like I was bottoming out on the toe off. However, with the B12s, the toe off feels much smoother and more springy.
This is the same story for me I am 6 ft 210 lb lean. I tend to find many “ daily trainers” bottom out for me. I think the categories mainly fit average running weight people.( you know what I am talking about ) but this shoe delivers for me . Saucony and the puma are also more narrow than what I am comfortable with . I am surprised the saucony threee was not more wide . Since they stated it was wider than the 2 . But I have found the Boston 12 to be my new favorite daily trainer. Also it matches my running style .
Yup I am about same size as you also 6’1” and musculature and size we have don’t fit with most distance runners so many reviews I just assume apply to lighter smaller runners .
I've got Boston 12s. They were my first Adidas shoe. I like them, but they are a little less comfortable than the AP3 for me. I use them as a daily trainer when I am not sore and want to go at a decent pace. I did get them on sale ($US 112), since Adidas has sales all the time, so that helps the value proposition.
I love mine. Love it for all kinds of runs including workouts that doesn't require spikes. Also love it for long runs up-to 25K, when compared to DN2, NB3, Boston 12 feels consistent throughout the entire run.
After the Boston 9s, I was shocked what Adidas did to the shoe. The 11 was really bad. I nick named mine "Grey Brick" in Strava. Just used them to walk in and even that was uncomfortable. I was out on a run in the 12s thinking I made another mistake but right after 30-35 miles, I'm really loving them. It was like a switch flipped on. I'm a light runner (135lbs, 5'8") and really like them from daily to WO miles. Love the toe box room! I did get them discounted so that figured into the purchase. Hoping they lighten it up just a bit and make the forefoot as bit more flexible in the 13.
I have been picking up the Boston 12 for a lot of my daily runs. Also have ts8 and Prime X Strung. Personally I find the Boston 12 uptempo but is more stable and relaxed. Speed 3 and Boston 12 are the 2 most comparable out of the shoes I have.
The Bostons that had Boost weighed 240 grams in 9 USA. They were fast but they didn't feel anywhere near like a goodbye boost. These Boston 12 are fast but they are not even close to the Adios Pro 3. I love the Boston 12, it is cushioned, quiet and agile. The 11 was a board with a feel similar to those classic adios whose foam was called adiprene+. I see that this Boston already resembles what a Boston was. Of course, like the Endorphin Speed there are no mixed ones.
While I understand your approach on the Boston 12, what I hear you ask for is a shoe that would look more like the Adios 8 or the Takumi sen 9. It makes sense for me that Adidas differentiate their line up with a shoe like the Boston 12.
I think that’s a pretty fair assessment of what I’m saying. Yes. I want a Boston, but what we have here is not a Boston. It’s a good shoe. And I agree that it’s a shoe type that Adidas doesn’t have. (And I detest that 2023 has become a year where the names of shoes are all jumbled and we consumers need to reshuffle all the names) But I think that the Adizero SL should have just been an updated SL20, and this Boston 12 should have been called the Adizero SL. There’s still a gap in the Adidas lineup for a Deviate Nitro 2 type of shoe.
@@kofuzi The difference between the adios line and the Boston has been confusing to me. I found the Adios 6 and Boston 9 to be quite similar, both on weight and feel. The biggest difference was the outsole. The Adios 6 outsole was good for tarmac etc, but not off road. The Boston 9 had an outsole that would work pretty good both on and off road. The Boston 10, 11 and 12 are bad off road, but differentiates from the Adios 8 with being heavier and more cushioned, more geared to daily training and longer runs.
I always recommend either the boston 12s or the nova blast 3s when someone asks me whats one shoe they could get at a budget. Both shoes perform well in a variety of runs and goes on sale often.
I have the novablast 3 , and i really love it for how comfy it is except on wet terrain. But Nova 3 mid and outsole is not the type that help pushing or striking for speed. Do you think Boston 12 have such feature since it has energy rods inside the midsole?
@@winstonsanjaya1124 depends on how long you go for daily runs. I think 10-20km boston 12s are good. If you want even road feel to push the pace maybe try out the takumi sen 10s in store.
@@winstonsanjaya1124 yep i suggest trying the boston 12s in store since lightstrike will feel different from ff blast. If you want to really feel the ground you can even try the takumi sen 10s
This is what I did for the perfect/painless heel lock - Switched the laces that come with the shoe, for flat laces (8mm wide + 150cm long). The ones that come with the shoes are too short for a runners loop/heel lock and if you do manage to make the loop, your upper feet is going to hurt, like so tight that it'll cut out blood circulation. If you want an amazing experience with the Boston 12, just switch out the laces. And always get the black ones. Trust me. Btw the Boston 12 is by far the best shoe Ive tried and helped me cut 1.5 mins off my per kilometer pace.
Totally agree. I bought one of the first BT12 in Bangkok when launched. It’s a nice pair of running shoes but the rods are too soft, the EVA foam is not that responsive, upper is not as comfortable as some competitors. One strong point is that it can support and protect my feet and legs really well in long distance run. But again, it’s not the fast training shoes.
I disagree. I think Adidas hit the sweet spot with this year's Boston 12 shoe. It is more stable than the adizero pro 2 and a lot more comfortable than the adizero pro 3. Handles gravel a lot better as well.. Comes at Half price compared to those as well. A bit heavier than endorphin speed 2 or 3 but way way better than either of those. They don't even come close.
I get on fine with my boston 12 as a dailey trainer. Im not connected to the name boston from past shoes so really doesnt bother me in that regard. The pro 3 is adidas marathon trainer so id guess adidas wouldnt want to muddy the waters making a similar shoe. I also have the takumi sen 9 which i like more each time i use them after feeling harsh first couple of runs.
Thanks for the review. Disappointed that you didn’t really like it. I got my Boston12’s a while ago and already got 50km on it. I just can’t stop running in it!! But I’m seeing a lot of creasing on the lightstrike 2.0’s. Hope it holds up.
In my opinion, the best shoe that reminds me of the Boston 8 or 9 is the Adios 8. The Adios 8 has the dual foam midsole, the torsion system similar stack height, and similar upper to the Boston 8 and 9. I use the Adios 8 as a daily shoe, tempo sessions, and taken them up to an 11 mile run. So if you are looking for the classic Boston feel, check out the Adios 8.
I ran in the 8 and reviewed the 8. And perhaps from a literal perspective, I’d agree that the feeling is probably similar to the Boston 9. And sometimes I feel like I’m chasing a ghost with what I want the Boston to be in 2023 or 2024 terms. But then again, the Deviate Nitro 2 exists. And I just want Adidas to make that
I loved the Boston 9s. The first time I ran in them, my calves were killing me after a 10k on the treadmill. I gave it another shot, and I never had the pain anymore and my km pace improved by 10% immediately. I realized that it forced me to run with better form, and no other shoe could do it to me otherwise. I have the Boston 11 too, but now I’m also 15kg heavier and I tend to just jog - it does the job, but it doesn’t feel “Boston” at all when compared to the 9.
I have a little over 75 miles on mine and have really enjoyed them. Great for long runs, easy runs and tempo efforts. I’ve been using these to try to avoid the carbon plate for all my workouts and I have been pleased with them. If you loved the 8/9 these definitely aren’t the same-I had on an old 9 to walk the dog and man do they feel so flat and low to the ground in comparison to the modern high stack, rockered shoes. But that said these treat me how the old Bostons did-they aren’t as fast or snappy or cushy as other options out there -they just work.
I don't think reviewing based on what you think the name Boston should entail is sensible, useful or reasonable. It's a name, that's all. As a wide foot runner where options are fairly limited i use it as a workout shoe and have really enjoyed it. I don't mean my comment to come across as harsh, its just honest feedback which may be useful to read. Thanks for the content!
I agree that names should mean something. The evolution of the Boston line since v9 has been too all over the map, with other named models bearing more resemblance-such as the SL and recent Adios6
@@bkmk No I'm not saying that at all, Adidas state this is a middle to long distance runner for use daily training. If they name a shoe the Adidas Walk but state it's a workout shoe then it should be reviewed as such with a mention that the name maybe doesn't relate well to its use case. It shouldn't be marked down due to the name. Many of the comments Kofuzi makes do indeed relate to that stated use case, but the review has a negative slant largely linked to the name Boston. He mentions a couple of times that maybe he's being overly nostalgic (or something along those lines) and I agree.
I didn't expect you were going to like this shoe, but surprised you don't think it's good for faster running since you feel that the Adizero SL can be used for speed training. I find the SL fine for slow easy runs, but the Boston 12 makes it a lot easier to hold a higher pace over larger distances. The Boston 12 where I live, did only cost 95 USD though, so perhaps if I were paying the kinds of prices it goes for in the states I'd be considering something else.
@@louidaiv2387 Yeah, things everywhere sound bad, especially in the West. My own home country of New Zealand has seen food prices go through the roof. I live in China now, and no they're not fake Bostons.
I feel like he doesn’t give it a fair chance just because it’s called the Boston 😂😂. Like the Takumi sen has clearly taken that faster speedy shoe spot in the adidas compared to the Boston now.
@@Clift0n Well to be fair, with his experience with the full range of Adizero running shoes, he probably has good reason for preferring other shoes over the Boston, especially at the prices it costs in the States. But the Boston seems to me like an excellent all-rounder, plus the durability is a big plus. I don't know how the other Adizero shoes compare in terms of durability, though I suspect the Adizero SL which I also have will not last as long since they lack the Continental rubber.
I love Boston 12! Good review, I like your opinions. I run faster than 40 minutes per 10 km. My races are 5km and 10km in which I use the great Takumi Sen 8 end 9. But I use Boston 12 for all training and I think they are great shoes for fast training and slow sprints, they are great. But I will also be interested in the Puma Deviate nitro 2 for training. Thank you, running buddy!
Thinking of your review of the Adizero SL relative to this one… I completely understand that expectations may cloud a review. The Boston was a great marathon trainer/racer for years; you expect more from it. The SL, not so much and it exceeded expectations.
I love mine. Lots of fun. The upper seems cheap but i like it. Somehow the padding at the back avoids pressing on blisters caused by other shoes. I still like my deviate nitro 2 more as they are a bit more comfortable.
I believe Kofuzi has the closer take to us Amateur runners. A few sub-elite runners reviewed this shoe, and they found it great. However, it might be a very different experience for us non-elite runners
I am most impressed with the durability of the boston 12, 150km in and the outsole looks brand new, but the weight and overall bulk means I mostly use it for easy runs usually with some strides at the end, prefer using the takumi sen 8 and speed 3 for K repeats and faster intervals. Superblast for longer stuff like threshold or similar steady effort runs. Managed to get the V1 prime x strung on crazy sale and am looking forward to see if they can compete with the Superblast for time on my feet for my long runs.
The Takumi Sen is what the Boston should be. I loved the pre-chunky Bostons, and still have my 5k PR in the 8. The Boston should be a thinner stack race shoe that can go up to marathon distance for those who want a more traditional shoe, rather than a $500 one.
Adidas already has Adios (8) to be the shoe that Kofuzi apparently wants the Boston 12 to be. The use case for Boston 12 is a tempo daily trainer and it is a great shoe in this sector. Many even consider it faster than Puma DN2, unlike Kofuzi, and they weight the same. I usually like Kofuzi’s reviews a lot, but in this one he missed the mark as he did not review the shoe based on it’s intended use, but something that Adidas already covers with Adios 8. Looking forward to all reviews to come in 2024!
already expect that you will dislike the boston 12, but the tone and the way you talk throughout the video really show your disappointment about the shoes. nice review though, thank you, I can understand that everyone have their own preference with their shoes, and yeah deviate nitro 2 is really a prominent contender. well, the boston 12 is a good fit for me, love the design language, and I got it in a great deal of discounted price around US$115, it has been a fun running companion for daily training and races along with the early release novablast 3.
I have the Boston 10s and I bought them (on sale) for a specific purpose--running on slippery pavement with poor traction, because my Brooks had such poor grip. I guess I read the Boston name as tough enough to keep you safe in the type of crappy weather that Boston often has (having lived there). I'm a tiny person and truthfully they are a bit heavy for me, but if I'm running on leaf-covered wet pavement at 5am on a long run, I like the extra traction and firmness.
Surpised this was not compared to the Speed 3. Both went from speed day shoes to more daily trainers over the past iterations but to be fair I'm sure they feel very different on foot, just similar use cases.
Boston 12 is a smoother and lighter shoe that 10 or 11. In USA9 the weight is 252 gr and feels less harsh than the two previous iterations. Speed 2 was a great tempo and workout shoe but 3 is less agressive. Boston 12 for me is sensational on long runs and tempo efforts.
@@isidrotormogarcia4879ES3s do have a more springy foam compared to the B12, but it’s only really in the heel. The ES3s feel terrible on toe off for me
From the perspective of a Non Elite. I think the Boston 12 is spot on. Can't fault it in any way.. Other than the weight.. But for a non race shoe that is OK as well.
I think the ride is Firm compared to other "Super Trainers". I have about 50 miles on mine and I can't for the life of me get a good lockdown. Tried runners knot and insoles from other shoes and still the laces come loose after a few miles. I just ordered a pair of 8mm shoe laces and hopefully that helps.
This Kofuzi review gets an A. Got to love the marathon footage. I completely agree that the Takumi Sens feel like the substitute for the way the Boston 9 felt.
I so wanted to like this shoe. I race marathons in Adios Pro 3 and 10k in Takumi Sen 8, do workouts in Adios 8. I love Lightstrike Pro. But this B12 just mangles my gait cycle. Not quite sure what is causing this but it feels to me like the stability elements/ energy rods on the lateral side do weird things to me. I have experienced pain on two long runs in this shoe. Sadly this shoe is now out of my rotation. Just one of those cases of shoe geometry not suiting me.
I have a deep rotation for 2023 from Nike,Hoka, Puma, Ascics and adidas, the boston 12 is by far my favorite and best for the price (got them on weird adidas discount) for the price I paid there’s no comparison.
I had the Boston 6-7 (pre-lightstrike). For me, the Boston is always a moderately cushion racing flat. A little softness in the midfoot where I like to land, a pronounced bounce, and a very snappy toe-off. It was stable and with a decent weight. A perfect racing shoe for those who can't run a marathon in racing flats like adios 3-4 or New balance 1400/1500. Maybe its just me or runners nowadays are really spoiled with high stack and carbon plates.
People are really spoiled, high stack is just plain terrible, you get no feedback from the terrain you're running on, the adios 3 remains my favorite running shoe.
I wouldn't say spoiled as runners just use what the brands put out. I still run in the Skechers Razor 3 quite a bit but love the Prime X as well. Shoes are just tools to be used as the runner sees fit. I don't like feeling the road everyday and beating my legs up so much if in a 60-70 mile week so opting for some foam helps. 60 year old marathon/ultra runner, just ran 3:25 with sub 3:20 goal in the fall.
I had Boston 4, 5, 6, 7 & 9 and really loved the shoes. So disappointed when I first looked at boston 10. Didn’t even bother to see the review. To me they no longer “Boston”. Now I loove Takumi Sen 8 for my speed works and even ran my best HM on these shoes. After watching your videos, now I would love to get my hands on SL and Adios Pro 3.
Jumped to buy this from all the hype I've heard but... I thought it was just me. I've had 2 Boston 7's and they were my favorite running shoes. It's true. The new Boston does not feel the same. I'm guessing the Adios 8 is the shoe that feels similar to the 7's. So I traded the 12 for the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 which was on sale at $120.
I don’t think the Boston has ever been something to go fast in, purely. It was always a shoe that could do it all. Slow, daily miles. Fast intervals. A shoe you could do your entire workout in and not have to change shoes but not be sacrificing too much energy return. I think the Boston still accomplished this, as you stated, it’s something you can enjoy slower miles, and, if you need to, pick up the pace.
Which was your first Boston? My theory is that people that first experienced the Boston at v10 or later think of this shoe as an easy day shoe that can go fast. But people who experienced Boston at v9 or earlier think of it in the inverse: a tempo shoe that can go easy.
@@kofuzi I started with Boston 7 and wore 7-9 religiously before the super shoe era of needing to wear different shoes for different types of running. We just had 2 shoes back then: a trainer and a racer. Which is why I believe shoes like the Boston, kinvara, pureflow, DS Trainer, etc. were so popular. You could do all your easy miles, intervals, and tempos in the same shoe. I think if you look at the blueprint of the Boston 10-12, the purpose is still an all around shoe that takes some of the benefits of racing shoes and adds a little more comfort to it. Just they haven’t quite gotten the formula right yet.
I'm not sure it needs to go full LS Pro, but I'd like to see them make the forefoot full LS Pro and make it have a less flared footprint. I don't need it to be a stability shoe.
I actually have to hard disagree with Kofuzi on this one. I have been using my Boston 12 for everything from interval paces up to long runs and it handles all that kind of work extremely well. I feel like the rose colored glasses looking back at the Boston 9 are severely impacting his review on this one. Love the channel and content but missed the mark this time.
I respect your advice and love your channel. On this one. You are way off base on this review. I am not normally an Adidas guy, Been Nike and Saucony for years. I got the Boston 12 for a few of reasons: (1) I love the minimal structure of the heel area. I always loved the Vapor Fly 2 and its predecessor with hardly any padding up there. (2) I also love the minimal tongue. I do not like padding anywhere on the shoe that is not really needed. (3) Compared to the Vapor Fly 2 which is now more expensive than the VaporFLy3, the Boston 12 is a bargain. The other shoes you compare do not have the same minimal feel that this show has. BTW: I grew up in Boston: I know what Boston means and how important that name is in the running community. I think this show is awesome for the price and what it does. I have almost 100 miles in mine now and love it. I for once, have to totally disagree with this review. BTW: Been running since I was 11 (48 years now) I average 50 miles a week assuming now injuries LOL. And I am not biased on my opinion because I have the shoe now LOL. I have bought other shoes and hated them. Anyway, keep up the good work. I just have to totally disagree with ya on this one.
I love to hear differing opinions. Did you like the Boston 8 or 9 though? Or the Deviate Nitro 2? I feel like the people who like the Boston how it is now did not experience what the Boston was.
@ultraporthos6884 I hv same experienced with u. I get Shin Splint and some stress bone injury. My question is, how long you got recoveried for the injury?
Thanks for the video, my son purchased a pair in Brussels within a few days of their European release, which was before their USA release. He loves them. I have, for several years, run in the Saucony Endorphin Speed and am towards the end of life on one pair of Speed 3, with over 350km on a second pair. I am wondering how you compare the Boston 12 to the Speed 3? Thanks again for the review.
Thanks for your reply, I do appreciate it. At 64 yo and trying to deal with the affects of arthritis in my right knee, I used to like the bounciness of the Speed 3, but I find it exacerbates my knee issues and have returned to running in a pair of Triumph 20s, with around 330km, because they are easier on my knee. The Boston 12s are currently on sale here in Australia (30% off) and I thought they might be worth a try. I will buy a pair for my son, who is still in Europe, but due to return in 3 or 4 weeks. I will try to get a run in them tomorrow, but if that doesn't eventuate I'll try something else.
Great video and content as always Thank you Interesting to hear the differences in opinion between you , Thomas and Fordy regarding this shoe Now I gotta try it to see for myself ! Very much appreciate your honest opinion and the range of thoughts on this shoe and in general - keeps things interesting 🎉
@@kofuzii am with you on the name thing. I am willing to bet the head of Adidas running division is not a runner. Disconnect between corporate and where the tread meets the track.
I have the Adios pro 3 and Prime X Strung and also Boston 12 and i must say that Boston 12 is super. Love them and i use them both for training and racing. Going to run in them this weekend at a trail race 30k.
Got to hand it to Kofuzi - always prepared to give an original opinion outside of the orthodoxy. I have to say that as somebody with no interest or links to the Boston marathon I think these shoes are great but I have never run in earlier versions so no point of comparison. I so wish my feet liked the fit of Adidas shoes a bit more though.
@@MachinesAndTravel I’m a size 10 1/2, but there’s a lot of space in the toe box. However, I use a runner’s knot in my lacing and they’re fine. I would advise if possible to try them on in person if you can. That way you can see how the width/length is if you go up or down half a size. I definitely had to re-lace them out of the box though.
Hi Ko, I'm using the Adizero SL as the single shoe for all kinds of run, pace 4:00(interval), 5:00 (tempo), 6:00 (easy), 7:00 (recovery) mins/km. Is the Boston a good upgrade to the SL as a daily trainer ? Thanks for the review !
I don’t think of the Boston as an upgrade to the Adizero SL. Like, I don’t tell people to buy the Adizero SL only if they can’t afford a Boston. They’re different shoes for different preferences. If you want a one shoe to do it all, I think the Boston isn’t a terrible idea, although I’d prefer the Puma Deviate Nitro 2.
I love the current Puma line-up. Have a few sitting on my "current use" shelf BUT I still reach for the Boston 12 more often. Expect that'll get even worse when the Adios Pro 4s arrive in the next couple of days & the Pro 3s become a speed workout shoe. Boston 12 as the daily. What else might survive the Adolf Dassler cull? Cloudsurfer & Cloudeclipse, Salomon Aero Glide 2, 1080 v14 + the More v4. And the secret stash of Kinvara 14s I've been hoarding. Extra: is it weird that I love Puma AND Adidas shoes - companies started by brothers? 🇩🇪
I've heard a lot of complaints regarding the upper failure (at low mileage !) of the Boston 11. Hopefully the upper mesh of the Boston 12 has changed/or has been strategically backed with some kind of overlays where it used to suddenly rip ??
Looking at the stability aspect, is the Puma a better option? Im overpronating a bit. Also, i suspect the Puma will be a bit better on wet and slippery surface, although the Continental rubber is no joke as well.
Boston 12 is for me my most favourite shoe in my collection right now - quite a statement I know. But also I never really agree with Kofuzi on his favourite shoes (well mostly do not agree) .. simply everyone likes different shoes and run differently But also I'm having a bit heavier frame that typical skinny runner (hybrid athlete)
Notice that this review has stirred up quite a bit of discussion. Grew up in Boston myself and definitely know what the name means. On the other hand, not a fan of the shoe, but that’s not why I am here. I am just here to support the channel.
I really love my Boston 11. It's really comfortable and I can run more fast in it. No doubt its the best craftsmen from Adidas. If the 11 is really awesome to me. I wonder what more awesome the 12 is.
As odd as it may seem, I pair B11 and B12 because B11 feels to me kinda "stable" version of B12. Yes B12 is so less stiffer and erods popping is minimal. Anyway B11 suits me as a firm ride because I'm heavy and I hate squishy foams that bottom down. Another thought: seems to me Adidas tried B10 and B11 more like a tempo and threshold trainer , but the market wanted a do it all kinda shoe, so they softened it to became friendlier as a daily trainer. Not sure if they will get back ever to B9 feeling... this was my 1st Boston and sometimes I run with it.... it feels so harsh to my legs today... but its responsiveness and ground feel are still something. B9 and Adios 5 feels like kart racing to me now... very fun, loads of ground feel, but very tiresome.
I think it’s fine you don’t love this shoe. I also think you’re maybe reading too much into the naming of the shoe. I feel like the Boston will work great for lots of runners as a marathon racer and daily trainer. I’m really enjoying it for a variety of runs from easy days to tempo runs and even some more intense speed work. The cushioning and responsiveness are perfect for me. I’ll definitely lace it up for 5k up to marathon. My only quibble is with the lacing system and getting a good lockdown, but a little patience and experimentation goes a long way with that.
on the one hand, I will concede that I am perhaps making too much out of the name, Boston. on the other hand, have you ever been to the Boston Marathon?
I have. I grew up 45 minutes north of Boston. I get it. I concede if it was called the Adidas Adizero “BQ” 12, I’d share your perspective even if I thought the shoe was the best running shoe ever made. Maybe we should ask Evans Chebet what he thinks about the name!
I loved the Boston 8 and 9 (for that time period of less cushion) from the moment I tried them on. I tried the 12 on and they just didn’t have that comfort and promise at step-in so passed on them.
WOW,I thought I got my better shore for tempo, interval compare to NB trainer 2 which I love. I use the Boston for my work out. NB for my long runs... well I must say I love the Boston on my feet. they make me go faster on training then any other shoe. I love the comfort as well.
Hmm, I think you hit the mark when you added the TS9 and AP3 to the mix to compliment the B12 which I think is its purpose. Daily training and long runs.
already try boston 12 and deviate nitro 2, IMO deviate nitro 2 is better, more comfortable, more durable and unbeatable price to performance. (especially big discount price)
Which one of these two is more stable? Curious about it, cause I'm a bit of an overpronator. 🤔 I'm looking for a grippy autumn/winter wet weather sole, in this aspect the Puma outsole will probably be better.
Am I the only one struggling with the laces? I never had as many unlacing with any shoes in the past. With these, even with taking extra care to tighten very strongly, it untightens at some point... Otherwise, it's very solid for tempo training runs.
I’m sorry, but Adidas Adios Pro 3 felt like being strapped in a heavy metal jacket (they’re fast, but you pay the price) it’s upper was so uncomfortable that the top of the foot got messed up so I would think long and hard before getting Adidas, especially given so many alternatives - New Balance and Nike come to mind! 🤷♂️
I think you have to enjoy regular light strike as well as light strike pro the adizero x and takumi sen 8 were two of my favorite shoes from last year and my adizero x is still alive and takumi sen is long gone and worn out both have like ~350 km+ but for sure like I enjoy both but that light strike pro feels fantastic vs that durability trade off of the regular.
For me this is a tempo run shoe, that is where the rods start working really well, landing on the mid/forefoot, depending on mechanics this might not work for everyone.
Bit of a marmite shoe IMHO as indeed you can see from the mixed opinions in the other comments. Personally while the Boston 12 is a little lighter and softer than the 10/11 it is indeed far from the racer/trainer that the Boston 9 (and previous versions) were which I think is one of your conclusions. Indeed for my narrow long feet I preferred the fit of the 11 to the now wider 12. Adios 8 is closer to the feel of the old Bostons IMHO.
They’re similar in that they’re all confusingly named and ultimately a bit disappointing. (Mach X should have been Mach 6, Kinvaro Pro should have been Shift 4, Boston 12 would make a great daily trainer but it’s not a Boston) Of those three I might reach for the Mach X, but they each are quite different
Copenhagen?
Will it be great to used for daily training and easy rum with slow pace?
We will never know@@frodelarsen7105
Totally agree. Suits better For me thank the azizero pro 2 or 3.. More stable than the 2 and a lot lot more comfortable than the 3. Handles gravel better than two as well.. Half price. What more do you need :)
Is it true to size?
The Boston 12 is an absolute winner of a running shoe. One of the absolute top shoe releases of 2023.
Maybe novablaat 3. Well 🤷🏻♀️
For someone who ran in Deviate Nitro 2 and Boston 12, I prefer Boston 12 for a variety of workouts, especially speed sessions and there are ONLY 7 grams of difference between the shoes which is hard to call one shoe light other one not light enough.
In no way an easy day shoe for me…
Deviate Nitro 2 has a more comfortable upper but no way near as fast and as good at holding pace for long runs.
Really well said. My exact feelings!
I have tried saucony speed 3 and deviate nitro 2 and prefer the Boston 12 for tempo mid distance workouts.
thanks for the feedback!
Can boston 12 used for daily training? I am a beginner runner with 8 min/km pace. It will be used to my daily trainer shoes sir??
I've got Boston 12s. They were my first Adidas shoe. I like them, but they are a little less comfortable than the AP3 for me. I use them as a daily trainer when I am not sore and want to go at a decent pace. I did get them on sale ($US 112), since Adidas has sales all the time, so that helps the value proposition.
Adidas pricing is an enigma
@@kofuzi Ain't that the truth. Same as @arkham999 , I was able to get mine on sale shortly after the shoe was released to the public.
Likewise bro, got mines for 102$ after tax. One run in it so far and it felt good
I love mine. Love it for all kinds of runs including workouts that doesn't require spikes. Also love it for long runs up-to 25K, when compared to DN2, NB3, Boston 12 feels consistent throughout the entire run.
I am planning to buy one...if is true to the size?
Finally, this day has come
Hope it was worth the wait
I am planning to buy one...if is true to the size?
I’ve ran 100+ kilometers in my pair of the Boston 12’a and I absolutely love them for faster daily runs!
Great to hear!
I haven't got the boston 10/9 or previous models, but I just run in my 12s and gotta say that I love them
Glad to hear they’re working for you!
And I just want Adidas to make that
agree completely, I had Boston 6 and 7, then adios 6 which felt like a natural follow up (and is still going strong for marathon training)
Definitely been waiting for this one. Really appreciate you and your videos
Thanks for your patience 🙏
Boston 10 turned out to me one of all time fave workhorse shoes. I can't wait to get my hands on another Boston when they are on sale
You’ll probably love this one
I don't think reviewing based on what you think the name Boston should entail is sensible, useful or reasonable. It's a name, that's all.
As a wide foot runner where options are fairly limited i use it as a workout shoe and have really enjoyed it.
I don't mean my comment to come across as harsh, its just honest feedback which may be useful to read.
Thanks for the content!
I hear you.
But names have to mean something, otherwise why not call this an Adidas Terrex Flip Flop 12?
Or why not call it a Kipchoge Sub 2?
They have the Adios, and the Takumi as their faster work out and race shoe..so there is no reason to make the Boston more dedicated to faster run..
Where do you live?? So I can go and buy a pair 😅 this economy isn't helping
Boston does the best in long runs with slightly faster than easy pace. it's a bit heavy for speed work and there are better options
I’m a amateur runner and I find Boston 12 a great shoe.
I also have every shoe that was mentioned in the video and I can run just as fast in the b12
Really really enjoying this one, favorite shoe right now
Been waiting for this review, Great work & review Mike
Just as I was looking into this shoe and you make this👌🏽 valid timing
Adidas already has Adios (8) to be the shoe that Kofuzi apparently wants the Boston 12 to be. The use case for Boston 12 is a tempo daily trainer and it is a great shoe in this sector. Many even consider it faster than Puma DN2, unlike Kofuzi, and they weight the same. I usually like Kofuzi’s reviews a lot, but in this one he missed the mark as he did not review the shoe based on it’s intended use, but something that Adidas already covers with Adios 8. Looking forward to all reviews to come in 2024!
The Adios is not what I think the Boston should be. The Deviate nitro 2 is what I think the Boston should be.
already expect that you will dislike the boston 12, but the tone and the way you talk throughout the video really show your disappointment about the shoes. nice review though, thank you, I can understand that everyone have their own preference with their shoes, and yeah deviate nitro 2 is really a prominent contender.
well, the boston 12 is a good fit for me, love the design language, and I got it in a great deal of discounted price around US$115, it has been a fun running companion for daily training and races along with the early release novablast 3.
I really wanted to like this one
I have the Boston 10s and I bought them (on sale) for a specific purpose--running on slippery pavement with poor traction, because my Brooks had such poor grip. I guess I read the Boston name as tough enough to keep you safe in the type of crappy weather that Boston often has (having lived there). I'm a tiny person and truthfully they are a bit heavy for me, but if I'm running on leaf-covered wet pavement at 5am on a long run, I like the extra traction and firmness.
glad to hear it's working for you!
Surpised this was not compared to the Speed 3. Both went from speed day shoes to more daily trainers over the past iterations but to be fair I'm sure they feel very different on foot, just similar use cases.
I didn’t like the Speed 3 either. I tend to kind of forget that it exists.
The ES3s feel terrible on toe off for me
I look at the Hoka Mach 5s as today’s Bostons. Fun for speed workouts and can handle races.
I can see that
Just got a pair of these at my local Adidas oulet store for $64. They had one pair and it was in my size. Couldn't believe it!
Kofuzi bringing on true shoe wars. Adi vs Puma.
their headquarters are literally across the street from each other in Herzo. I ain't bringing nothing that ain't already there.
From the perspective of a Non Elite. I think the Boston 12 is spot on. Can't fault it in any way.. Other than the weight.. But for a non race shoe that is OK as well.
Great video. Enjoyed the comparisons and alternatives.
Thanks for watching!
I was waiting for this review!!
Hope you like it!
Not sure why I would need a Boston when I’ve got the SL for daily training, Takumi sen for workouts, and AP3 for races
Adidas has such a wide lineup of shoes. There’s so much overlap. There’s also the Adios, the Supernova, and do they still make the RC?
Best running shoe ever!!!!
glad to hear you're enjoying them!
I think it’s a combo or too much lighstrike (especially under the forefoot) and too wide of a base in both forefoot and heel
Boston 12 vs Speed 4 what do you think is better?
I have a deep rotation for 2023 from Nike,Hoka, Puma, Ascics and adidas, the boston 12 is by far my favorite and best for the price (got them on weird adidas discount) for the price I paid there’s no comparison.
Adidas pricing is so volatile
Does "for the price you paid" mean they are not worth the full price? Just curious
So I traded the 12 for the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 which was on sale at $120.
a good trade
Can't complain much since I got them for 80 bucks. If they used full lightstrike pro then it would've been definitely the best supertrainer.
I own too many shoes at present with 2 full rotations . I just can’t justify this shoe at present , but thanks for the review.
thanks for watching! i don't intend for everyone to make a purchasing decision after watching a video. As long as you were entertained, I'm satisfied.
Thanks again for the review.
the Speed 3 is bouncier and feels better suited for workouts. I believe it is lighter too.
Great video and content as always
Thank you
Interesting to hear the differences in opinion between you , Thomas and Fordy regarding this shoe
Now I gotta try it to see for myself !
Very much appreciate your honest opinion and the range of thoughts on this shoe and in general - keeps things interesting 🎉
the review would be much more straightforward if the shoe had just about any other name
Going to run in them this weekend at a trail race 30k.
glad to hear you're enjoying them! good luck this weekend on your trail race!
I miss the Boston 9. That's a great shoe.
Just got my pair!🔥
I am planning to buy one...if is true to the size?
@@kofuzi Thank you very much !
it's not weird
I've heard a lot of complaints regarding the upper failure (at low mileage !) of the Boston 11.
Hopefully the upper mesh of the Boston 12 has changed/or has been strategically backed with some kind of overlays where it used to suddenly rip ??
this is the first I've heard of such an issue
Looking at the stability aspect, is the Puma a better option? Im overpronating a bit.
Also, i suspect the Puma will be a bit better on wet and slippery surface, although the Continental rubber is no joke as well.
Boston 12 is for me my most favourite shoe in my collection right now - quite a statement I know.
But also I never really agree with Kofuzi on his favourite shoes (well mostly do not agree) .. simply everyone likes different shoes and run differently
But also I'm having a bit heavier frame that typical skinny runner (hybrid athlete)
It’s a great time to be a runner. So many options for so many sets of preferences
Notice that this review has stirred up quite a bit of discussion. Grew up in Boston myself and definitely know what the name means. On the other hand, not a fan of the shoe, but that’s not why I am here. I am just here to support the channel.
✌️
I really love my Boston 11. It's really comfortable and I can run more fast in it. No doubt its the best craftsmen from Adidas. If the 11 is really awesome to me. I wonder what more awesome the 12 is.
You’ll probably really enjoy this update
Great review
Thank you for watching 🙏
Thank you kingfuzi 🎉
B9 and Adios 5 feels like kart racing to me now... very fun, loads of ground feel, but very tiresome.
great video , I am a size us10 should I go for the same size or size up or down ?
Thanks in advance
I love the comfort as well.
glad to hear it!
Hmm, I think you hit the mark when you added the TS9 and AP3 to the mix to compliment the B12 which I think is its purpose. Daily training and long runs.
I think they made a pretty good shoe. It’s just unfortunate that it’s not a great Boston.
Same shoe. Same colorway. Solid workhorse of a thoroughbred!!
I wanted to try this shoe but got a good deal on Deviate Nitro 2s and I love those for training shoes.
kofuzi im a track athlete do you think the boston 12 is workable in mile pace? 4:57 mile
Yeah no
@@kofuzi how about 5-10k races
Just when I' m about to get the boston, you pulled me back into waiting mode 🥺
Try it on. Some people love it for what it is, regardless of the name.
I love Boston 7.
Yoo Kofuzi. Love your content. Do you have any plans on reviewing the Adidas Switch FWD? Thank you sir!
I do not have plans to review that shoe
already try boston 12 and deviate nitro 2, IMO deviate nitro 2 is better, more comfortable, more durable and unbeatable price to performance. (especially big discount price)
I really love that Puma
Which one of these two is more stable?
Curious about it, cause I'm a bit of an overpronator. 🤔
I'm looking for a grippy autumn/winter wet weather sole, in this aspect the Puma outsole will probably be better.
@@lukaszpowalowski8342 both have a pretty good stability in my experience..
Need answer, this or adizero SL for daily training runs besides maybe joining 10K marathon in the future?
not sure how to answer this question
Am I the only one struggling with the laces? I never had as many unlacing with any shoes in the past. With these, even with taking extra care to tighten very strongly, it untightens at some point...
Otherwise, it's very solid for tempo training runs.
They seemed long to me
I’m sorry, but Adidas Adios Pro 3 felt like being strapped in a heavy metal jacket (they’re fast, but you pay the price) it’s upper was so uncomfortable that the top of the foot got messed up so I would think long and hard before getting Adidas, especially given so many alternatives - New Balance and Nike come to mind! 🤷♂️
it's a great time to be a runner. lots of alternatives available
The puma elite nitro 2 has a 6 mm offset while the Boston 9 and its predecessors were 10 mm
Deviate Nitro 2 is also a 6mm drop
I was just talking to my friend about this I had a Boston 9 and loved it, but the Boston is now the adios, and the Boston should be a new shoes,
For me this is a tempo run shoe, that is where the rods start working really well, landing on the mid/forefoot, depending on mechanics this might not work for everyone.
Glad it’s working for you!
Getting so many shoes that you can’t keep track whether it was paid or free 😅😅😅❤
I have the Boston 6, Boston 8 and Boston 9 (Boost outsole) and they were special shoes... fast and bouncy 🙂
I miss them
Bit of a marmite shoe IMHO as indeed you can see from the mixed opinions in the other comments.
I just ordered this an hour ago. I hope it will be a good partner with my deviate nitro 2 😅
Would you say these are similar to the mach x or kinvara pro, and out of the three what would you recommend for a plated trainer.
They’re similar in that they’re all confusingly named and ultimately a bit disappointing.
(Mach X should have been Mach 6, Kinvaro Pro should have been Shift 4, Boston 12 would make a great daily trainer but it’s not a Boston)
Of those three I might reach for the Mach X, but they each are quite different
