      As a cyclist I rode Continental tires only for road riding over 15 years…I trust Conti rubber. Part of the appeal of Adidas running shoes for me early on was the Conti outsoles. Almost 10 years later they keep being excellent. I’m a big fan.

      Hahaha… I can see that. On a route I often do… the first 2k is on sidewalk with a stop light or two and shoes usually always feel harsh and not fun on it. Once I get to the river and the run/bike paths… magic happens and shoes instantly feel great.

    I’m glad you mentioned that it would be a good race shoe option for someone just now getting into doing races. I was considering running in the B12 for the Broad Street Run(10 miler) which would be only my second race and until this past weekend I hadn’t ran that distance and the B12 felt really good. I’m a slower/heavier runner and not to be off topic, but I think that it does speak to the question whether plated/rodded shoes are good at slower paces, because I can surely tell the difference between say my Novablast 3 and the B12 as I feel more efficient/faster in the B12.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад +1

      The B12 is an excellent option for you. Plated shoes ARE good. They offer efficiencies for all runners, some shoes more than others and it is diminishing returns the slower you run… plus not every plated shoe works for every runner. But they do make a difference!
      Plus… if you feel faster in a a shoe… often you will be. Feeling fast, especially on race day, is a HUGE thing.
      Enjoy your race! Good luck. 🤙🏻

    • @therunophil
      @therunophil 6 месяцев назад +2

      look at any (amateur) race and you will see tons of different shoes including many shoes that are not "suitable" for racing. The key point is what works for you, most impotantly if it feels comfortable (unless you happen to have a lab to test efficiency). You just want to finish? Take a max cushion or daily trainer that you normally use. A bit more ambitious? Look for faster shoes, super trainers or super shoes. In each category RUclips can help find the top tier, but I've bought many a shoe that was supposed to be (one of) "the best" that then did not work for my biomechanics, gotta try and find something that works for you.

    • @Runstrong_Chris

      @@therunophil You made some very good points. I would say I'm a runner doing it for the physical/mental benefits and fast times is not as important for me at the moment. I just want to make sure I'm setting a baseline for just being able to cover certain distances (goals for 10 miler to Half Marathon this year). I have a few shoes to rotate and I will be sure to go with what feels best at the time the race comes.

    • @therunophil
      @therunophil 6 месяцев назад +1

      @Runstrong_Chris Sounds like the Boston is a good choice for you, certainly a top tier super trainer. A Adios Pro or Endorphin Pro may be a bit faster if you are desperate for marginal gains but it's anyways a good idea to evolve slowly, I started racing with daily shoes over non-plated speed day shoe to Nylon plated trainer and now I buy way too many carbon racers as part of a ridiculously large rotation. 😉
      As a heavier and slower runner I also really like the Superblast, very durable but expensive.

    This was the best and most comprehensive of all B12 reviews I’ve seen (many), congrats.
    B12 does not feel heavy but it does feel bottom heavy as all the weight is at the bottom of the shoe. I hope they can distribute the weight more equally around the foot in the next update - maybe by adding just a little more padding to heel area and increasing the share of the lighter LS Pro over LS 2.0 so as not to increase overall weight. Of course the large amount of Conti rubber also adds to bottom heaviness.
    For me getting a good lockdown was an issue until I replaced the laces with softer laces from another brand shoes and laced them until the very last hole (skipped the second last though, no runner’s loop).
    Now I am not sure if I should buy another pair of B12 before summer or wait until B13, who knows when it will come… if even in 2024? and as said I also hope they add some more LS Pro in it.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад

      Ya, that bottom heaviness is an Adidas characteristic due to their foams. The huge slab of Conti rubber adds to it too (though I’d not remove it at all).
      I’m curious how much they rethink their heel/Achilles counter design in the coming generation of all Adizero shoes. I also think we will see more LSP foam in the next Boston.
      I’d expect the Boston 14 this year to launch a bit before or with the new Adios Pro. We should have a better idea starting in March/April as 2024 Adizero stuff will start launching.

I absolutely have to convey to you my appreciation for your well-made videos. The attention to detail and your ability to keep the review simultaneously technical and easy to follow is hugely impressive mate. Furthermore I value greatly that when you describe the sensations that you felt during running you explain to us what you think as to what causes them. Often I read reviews with empty descriptions that are of no use to me as I do not know then if that will affect me as well. Also the depth of your videos and the way you approach the analyses of your shoes sensitises me to the many features of a shoe that one can observe. When I began to think of my review format one of the main things I wanted to cover is “how something feel” and then explain why I think that is the case and what the product team maybe had in mind. Obviously that’s just me and my experience now but over time my review format will have a lot of references points for other shoes. Also I hope to be able to access brands directly to get more details and confirmation on my thinking… hopefully someday.

      I totally agree. Most reviews I get here in Brazil are mostly like repeating marketing stuff from brands. Yeah that's useful, but a good rewiew can't limit just to that. The feeling as a user has is so important.
      I'm a heavy recreational runner, so the standard "harder faster longer" mostly doesn't apply to me.
      Boston 12 is great, to me, for having a thick layer of Continental rubber, since I'm not trying to win races and specialized racing shoes have slim outsoles to drop weight.
      Anyway the remarks on how the motions feels like Evo is most interesting. I think I'll never race it, but knowing the motion I train at B12 is at the same direction as AP3 and Evo is comforting.

    I was really split if the Boston 12 would be nice addition for a daily trainer up to 12k since I'm a bit worried the Adios Pro 3 has not the durability to work as a daily trainer.
    The Prime X2 holds very well up, 200k in and almost no signs of wear and tear. The Adios in the otherhand has 250k in and shows some direct wear on the outsole, which is normal. So I was thinking to get the Boston 12 as a "more durable Adios Pro 3".

    FWIW I wash shoes too. In a tropical environment, I find it is pretty necessary.
    In a front load machine or by hand with soap and a brush or scrubby in the shower is fine in my opinion. A top load machine with a spindle will fuck up a shoe though - especially if the water is hot enough to soften the heel counter or other plastic elements.

    I have a question you could provide an answer to. I am currently waiting for Novablast 4 stock to arrive in my size 9.5US but my curiosity is being called by the Superblast. You say that the Boston 12 is a stiff ride, how does the Superblast ride compared to the Boston?
    I don't find the Boston 12 LSP to be too stiff for me, and the rolling sensation is very enjoyable. It is a very fast shoe for me that I have to watch my pace when using them especially on long runs. The other shoes in my training rotation now aside from the Boston 12 is the Puma DN2 and the Nike Inv3, so I was looking for a non plated long run trainer.

      I’m actually going to do a video comparing the Boston 12 to the Superblast… since so many are asking the same question. It will be the next long form video on the channel this weekend
      The short of it is… the SB is a less stiff ride. FFTurbo is a foam that I find firmer than LSP with much less resilience. So the rebound is less springlike and more mild. Therefore the SB is less stiff (no plate/rods) slightly less rolling ride than the B12…
      For a non-plated long run trainer… the Superblast cannot be beat.

    Nice! I would be interested in this for a firmer choice, I love LSP. But I cannot cope Adizero heel design. Lack of padding where it is needed: On achilles. I got blistering heelrub w. Prime X strung. Will not risk another Adizero. Also, that lateral heel bevel makes a speedbump for heelstrikers. You addressed it. My experience w. any more than stantard heel beveling ruins it for heelstrikers. I am 3+ hr marathon heelstriker. Maybe 2.40 heelstrikers don´t suffer from heel bevels or soft heels.
    I gotta point out my point of view for heelstrikers and soft heels. All soft heels ruin it for heelstrikers, bogging after 30km. After Tempo Next%, I wonder when we will have a real fast shoe w. a firm heel and normal heel bevel. Looks never.
    Excellent recommendation in the end! I am sure AP3 medial low eyelet will destroy my big toe knuckle, again... I wonder if Adidas will ever get their uppers right :P

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад

      While not in the same class...the Adizero SL gives you some of the LSP feel without the harsh Adidas upper. Though the SL2 looks to have a more minimal heel again.
      I'm no longer a heelstriker, but I was about 15 years ago (until I changed to a forefoot strike) so I remember the movement and how it feels. While running in a heelstrike is awkward for me, I do appreciate the lateral heel bevel to capture and smooth the strike and guide the shoe into the midfoot. However, I could see how that could get VERY annoying over time.
      I also agree, overly soft heels are the worst for heel striking. What feels ok at 1km is torture at 30km. it's the same for a forefoot strike.
      The AP3 upper is possibly one of the most poorly consider design and engineering choices in running shoes right now. It's absolutely shocking that upper made it through user testing. I made a 20min+ video on this channel about it last summer...but the midsole and outsole...so SO good.
      I'm actually going to be taking the AP3 out again for a few runs in the coming weeks to test something...I already bought a box of band-aids (plasters) to strategically place on my foot and hope for the best...

    I wonder how much you would be interested in the Boston 12 if the adios pro 3 upper worked for you. I had several pairs of Boston 10 and 11 and the stiffness was good for me at the time working through a foot injury.
    If you really look at a Boston 10/11 there is not that much lightsrike pro. There is a rim around the edge that makes it look much thicker than it really is. Even in the forefoot it is in a lightsrike carrier.
    I have a pair of Adios Pro 3 and I cannot imagine going back to the Boston. The upper is perfectly comfortable but the Pro 3 is just so, so, so much lighter. I cannot emphasize this enough. It also doesn’t have the dull thud of lightsrike.
    I like the AP3 but not for a race. I like the Takumi Sen and it is fun for some workouts but not practical for many kinds of races and it’s kind of unstable so the road needs to be good. I like the adios 8 for a workout shoe, but it’s not the second coming or anything. I’m actually not sure that the adidas line really does what I need in a practical way.
    I have been doing 80-90% of kms lately in the TS Eliot Runner. I got an email that they are making an Eliot Racer - I am extremely skeptical.
    I have a feeling the Endorphin Speed 4 would do me to replace all of those adios shoes and I could race in an Endorphin Pro 4. Both of those are by all accounts great shoes and are much, much lighter than a AP3. I enjoyed the Speed 2 but I kind of associated it with some transient knee pain I had from being crammed into long haul economy flights between Africa, Europe, Africa, Europe, and the States and got rid of them. :(

      If the AP3 upper didn’t hurt my foot the way it does AND I don’t have a history with the Boston, I’d likely be back where I was last June… just running in super shoes for a plated shoe.
      They being said, given the direction Adidas seems to be headed with their foams and super shoes… having a solid fast trainer from the brand to work with a super shoe… seems like a must.
      The Boston is like the Pegasus for me… I will always pay attention to it. Especially now that I got over the 10/11…
      I’m actually gravitating to the Adidas line lately. I’m preferring the firmer foams quite a bit lately. I’m extremely curious about the 2024 models.
      However… once Nike drops the Peg41 and Turbo4… I’ll be very curious how they feel and work with a Vaporfly…

    Good review as ever but I do think it does rather illustrate you always need to try a shoe for yourself to see if really works for you. In my UK 13.5/US 14 I just struggled to get any excitement for it at all. Calling it a rigid brick that does not fit my narrow feet as well as some other adidas shoes is a bit harsh but it's not way off. Yeah I could "get going" in it but so I can in nearly all my shoes if am really inclined to. Maybe trying it to use it in a lot lower temperatures than you may also have a bearing as the Lightstrike doesn't really like the cold in my experience. The Adios 8 is closer to what I liked about pre Boston 10 editions. I note my pair of them is still significantly heavier than your Boston 12 and therein may well be my problem. And, as otherwise mentioned, the Adios Pro 3 for me is about the same weight as an Adios 8 so if i am doing anything faster or longer makes more sense to use the Pro 3 as it is not my racer of choice anyway. Boston 12 sort of feels like a dumb downed version of it. Yeah if the Pro 3 was your race shoe I can see why would need the Boston 12. Otherwise I will take the 50g less in the Speeds for general training.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад +1

      Ya… this one is definitely about fit. I can see why a long narrow foot would struggle in these. Then again you can likely get more use out of the Takumi Sen than me.
      The B12 is not a replacement for the B9 for me… as I’ve said the Nnormal Kjerag is the most direct replacement I’ve felt yet… rather the B12 is a very modern “fast” trainer… and it works (for me).
      I’m going to spend a little time in the AP3 (I got my band-aids ready…and the VF3 to compare in the next week or so. I’m working on a longer term video comparing a bunch of things… I’m curious what the data will say… so far what I’ve seen though is that the B12 works well for me.

      @@SagasuRunning always key "working for you" - largely why there are so many shoes. I will try my Boston 12 again as curiously I "sort of" started to like the Boston 11 as, although heavier than the 11, it rolled along quite well in a straight line as it were. That one had a narrower fit though and I think I would always "excuse" a bit of extra overall weight for a snugger mid foot. I wore a VF1 for 200m reps last night and it was interesting how well that hugs my midfoot with the Vaporweave. It kind of made me realise why that sort of shoe was probably too narrow for most. Will have to try the TS9 again too. Not seen my size yet in the TS10 but it seems fairly similar to the 8 and 9 so not really sure where adidas are going. Most oddly adidas UK have been selling 8, 9 and 10 of late. How to confuse customers for sure!

    I wanted to love the Boston 12, but the heel lift is brutal for my feet. The combination of a rock hard heel counter with zero padding and the inner heel collar not going far enough back to assist with locking down the heel limits what I can use this shoe for without destroying my heels. I'll still wear it occasionally for shorter lolly gag runs, but it's kinda like taking a sports car to get groceries. Thankfully I only paid $95 CAD for the shoe. And I have since replaced the Boston 12 in my lineup with the Novablast 3 which is amazing...for me. Asics heels might just work for me.
    I've considered modifying the shoe by putting in silicone heel padding to bridge the missing heel collar. Just seems a shame to effectively shelf the shoe.
    Strangely enough I seem to get along ok with the Takumi Sen8 (350km on the shoe) and the heels are very similar with the exception that the heel pocket is soft/flexible so I think it's acting like padding.

    Whats your improvements recommendations for Boston 13?I have plated daily trainer Puma Deviate 2 but Should I buy B12 pair or wait for better discounts ? ha ha

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад +2

      If you have the DN2… use they and wait for the B13. Improvements? The upper can be softer and I’d like to see more LSP foam and less LS2.0 foam in the shoe… but beyond that I’m not sure. A lot depends on what we see in the AP4/5.

    I am a 12.5 in my Nike daily trainers so I’m guessing I need to go with 12.5. Never ran in adidas. Thoughts on size?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 месяца назад +1

      I went TTS and wear a size 9 in both Nike and Adidas. Some people say you need to size a half size down in the Boston 12 but I don’t agree.

    • @SagasuRunning

      Two different shoes. One is a soft cushioned trainer and the otherwise a plated fast trainer. It’s not an either/or…. It’s a this/and.
      The two shoes compliment each other well.

      LSP does take a bit to break in, 40-50k (25-30mi) or around there...

    i have a question, thinking of going to get a pair of this, my routine for training is just 5k perday, im hitting the speed of 9km 10km and 12km /h daily on a treadmill, sometimes pavement , would this fits me if I were to get a pair, plus point here is the new ekiden colorway.
    I never had any super shoes before, this would be my first, I also wanted something to do some workouts in it.
    I am contemplating between
    1. Superblast
    2. Magic Speed 3
    3. S4
    Boston 12 is the cheapest of them all

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад

      Without knowing more about your running and assuming you already have a pair of non-plated daily trainers you like I’d go for the S4 or Boston 12. Both will introduce you to a plated shoe but will be versatile enough for many types of running.

      @@SagasuRunning thanks for the reply!
      Yes I do have a non plated daily trainer but my goal is to switch to new shoes.
      My routine is simple for now, daily running for 5k in 25 to 27 mins, two days off on Friday and Saturday. I would try to be below 30mins.
      Focus is running purely 5k plus leg workouts

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  6 месяцев назад

      Knowing that I change my suggestion…. You want the Magic Soeed 3… it’s a pure tempo shoe and perfect for going after a fast 5k. From Adidas you’ll want the Takumi Sen, not the Boston.

      I do too and found TTS was right for me. There is certainly no disadvantage to going up. half a size, as long as the shoe isn't too big.

    No New balance reviews?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  4 месяца назад

      As of right now I am not running in NB. Partly because I’m not a fan of their 2024 design direction(s) and partly because of access here in Taiwan (which I’ve discussed multiple times recently in videos). The Elite V4 and Rebel v4 are both hard passes for me, and I can’t get a standard width Rebel v4 anyway (we only have wides in TW, which is absolutely ridiculous). I’m still going to watch the SC Pacer v2… but I don’t see much different there then the rest of the line (same upper problems, fit problems, foam problems and geometry problems). So at this point I might just ignore the brand until 2025 and hope to revise things drastically. We will see.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  5 месяцев назад +1

      So many options… from Adidas the Supernova Rise is excellent, the Adizero SL is great (and the SL 2 looks even better), the Puma Velocity Nitro 3 is near perfect working with the B12… and there are many others.
      I’m covering the training space quite a bit in 2024. I’ll eventually have some videos on all of this later in the year.
