Fun Fact: Prototype was initially meant to be a sequel to Spiderman Web of Shadows where you play as Venom before it was turned into its own IP

It wasn't a bad idea. Legacy of Kain and Diablo 2 did this as well.
But Alex turning evil off-screen between games always just felt wrong to me. And its not like there was a reasonable explanation or a hidden agenda behind it.
He just turned into a maniac with a god complex and that was his character for the whole latter half of the game

Honestly when I was a kid, I always thought Mercer was always the villain, since he needlessly killed random civilians here and there and even ate them like popcorn.😹
@@filipvadas7602 I certainly agree but it all comes down to the ending of the first game, he realizes he was never Alex Mercer and was always "The Thing" and Mercer is just the first set of memories he gets. It makes sense that he would get detatched and go insane after that but I still agree.

@@hosav Yea, they were still working as a support studio for Bungie on the Destiny franchise long after the company was shut down.
Its a really sad story, Prototype 2 was a great game, but its the reason the studio shut down. Activision and their never ending greed thought the sales weren't enough and completely shut them down. They are a fantastic studio, and it shows in their work on the Destiny franchise.
Kev, I think you would love Asura’s Wrath, it’s an absolutely insane game, and every time you think “it can’t get better then this” and suddenly you’re fighting elephants the size of small office buildings, and that’s just a “normal” type of enemy, Ton of button mashing, but it’s a fun play
"Buttom mashing" is the wrong way to describe it, it's more like "unending controller smashing." I never played that game but I watched a friend play the whole thing when it first came out and oh boy is it a good time.

The true ending being a dlc is a bummer but yes. Is a very good game. The cutscenes qte fights are SO satisfying.

Tbh, the ending still bothers me in a way. I mean, theres just no way Mercer didn't purposefully gave up, especially not with his whole "regenerate from a single atom" type stick
Which brings me to my next point, my god we need Prototype 3, ESPECIALLY with the whole regenerate from nothing shit, I just wanna see my boy in glorious 4K man

The thing that always bothered me about the whole "regeneration" thing, this can easily turn into a cell situation where we end up with a THIRD protagonist cause James ended up getting assimilated into Alex despite both of them basically having the same abilities despite the difference in moveset.

Fun fact. When you are in the red zone there is a chance you can find someone about to commit suicide via jumping off the roof of a high building. Not vary cool but interesting since the devs didn't have a reason for it other then to fill the situation with even more hopelessness. And I love this about the game.

Alex Mercer will always be the face of Prototype. He definitely let Heller win.
Alex mercer that we play as and in this game is the black light virus. He has total control over every single cell of himself. He def did. He walks you through how to win and encourages you to grow.
My bet is that he chose heller since heller’s dna has naturally strong manipulation to the virus and was able to make heller a natural anti virus- for the sake of combating pariah
Could definitely be a part of Mercers ultimate goal, but unfortunately we might never see a third installation to see how it plays out

@@wesleyward5901 No copium at all. What we perceive as Alex Mercer in P1&2 is just the Blacklight having taken on his appearance, character traits and part of his memories. You're playing a self-aware weaponized virus in P1, not an infected human.
And what is the main goal of a virus? Survival and improvment through a host organism. The virus recognized during the story of P2 that Heller is a superior host compared to its current recreated form, which is why it allowed Heller to absorb it after being defeated by him.

I always loved how overpowered you are by the end of Prototype 2. I remember just running down the street and making buses flip over from me brushing up against them and seeing how zombies would explode from me just running past them. Or how eventually you’re just able to unleash explosions that wreck whole areas at a moments notice. I definitely had an absurd amount of fun when I played it.
I platinumed this game on my PS3. It's one of the most incredible open-world games I've ever played. I loved the raw power, the predatory nature, and being able to corrupt the city. The entire landscape changed because of my actions.

Pretending to be a super soldier and flipping over the monsters and punching them to death, and grabbing guns! The other soldiers don't realize unless you kill their own or pull out claws/transform

Prototype deserves a remaster

what it needs is a good sequel
I replayed this on my steam deck and it runs flawlessly on max 60fps. The NPC feels like they react to the environment and yourself pretty well. This game makes you feel like an unstoppable force. If you have that power trip itch, this is probably one of the best game out there within their genre.

does anyone else remember Stubb's The zombie rebel without a pulse? it was such a classic game and was re-relased in the past year. such a unique and comedic take on a series where you play the undead!
This was the only game that i was able to beat on hardest difficulty without taking damage... Just because this is my all time favorite game forever. I wish Prototype 3 would exist with a modern engine.

@@whoisi8685 Pretty much back in 2012 i spent only 3-4 months playing this game. I was very hyped for it. I was even counting days back then. Was a smol kid who had no better life than just sitting at PC for whole day. Thats it. If you can avoid every projectile. Also Radnet edition gave you immunity vs normal bullets. Nothing impossible. If you are sweat enough.

@@whoisi8685 it’s possible theoretically I can definitely see it. The problem is playing like that kills the fun, it becomes one big technical boss fight because you can’t get hit once and that kills it for me personally

the overall feeling of this franchise is "brutal" and "ruthless" i would say
and running up a building and then sky-jumping and then gliding around just to smash into the ground
with the force of a beach ball sized meteorite falling down to earth is simply a unique feeling
and you really feel like an unstoppable force in the end-game, i liked the first part a little better tho.

Half the fun of his character was the fact that he danced on that razor's edge between man and monster, while technically being neither
And the fact that the people he was up against were x100 worse made it easier to like him by comparison
But in this game he just becomes a mustache twirling maniac with a god complex ,off-screen.
If they wanted to have Alex go crazy and turn into a villain because he lost hope in humanity, a good way to do it would have been over the course of the game, with Heller being Alex's contingency in the event that he loses it

Mercer having a god complex is fine in the 2nd game especially since in the first game you as a player had a sense of that but what’s intriguing is that mercer himself released the virus and you’re the virus itself elsewell.
The reason was confirmed to be alex allowed it, he’ll regenerate just fine and can take heller over whenever he wants thanks to the virus, heller is merely a carrier, alex is the virus itself
They really need a sequel or remake of prototype!

I really wanted the game to let me continue playing as Mercer with all the crazy batshit powers and even more op. If we get a third one we need to be able to just go full crazy creating your own strain that you completely control seizing city blocks and stuff.

I think you should do some of the net challenges, they take no time and are easy. They give you super cool shit like a laser vision that turns people to stone, throwing people like canonballs (even more so than before), skins so you can look like a zombie (which changes all voice lines for you to zombie gurgles) or alex mercer or armored up main guy. It's stupid as hell but fun to play with
