    Prototype is a power fantasy. Playing as a nye immortal, unstoppable, rage filled demon that can slaughter hordes of monsters and military alike without any care in the world. Honestly one of the most fun games I’ve ever played.

      @redshep4318 doesnt help they decided to make Mercer a villain with no explanation in-game so if you missed the comic or whatever that explains why he wants to infect all of humanity now, the whole story comes across like WTF? I was half expecting to find out the "Alex Mercer" who was leading the Infect forces wasnt the same entity as the protagonist from the first game but nope.

      Nah it’s consuming civilians

      @jackcoleman1784 3 years ago +245

      Yeah it's consuming. I got it myself. It would have been nearly impossible to get if it were killing civilians. There's just way too much collateral damage in this game. You basically can't even drive an armored vehicle through an infected zone without killing civilians accidentally.

    • @ZZMonkeysUncleZZ
      @ZZMonkeysUncleZZ 3 years ago +20

      Bit of an odd thing to focus on, but I loved the smoke effects. Whenever a big fight started, burning vehicles would be everywhere, and the smoke from them would fill the skies. Nothing like the little 20 foot trails most games have to this day, it really sold the idea that everything was going thoroughly insane.

    • @TheDarkMaster312
      @TheDarkMaster312 3 years ago +20

      Alongside the sandbox, you can FEEL the upgrade menu. Getting sprint 2, jump 2 and glide at the same time, you could see a huge difference when it comes to moving through the city. And every upgrade makes you progressively stronger.
      If there was a strength power up (not musclemass) you'd probably be shredding everything short of the final boss harder than you already do.

    • @TheDarkMaster312
      @TheDarkMaster312 3 years ago +80

      Ironically, Alex Mercer is a nicer person than the psychopath who created him. If Prototype got a movie, I could swear they'd pair him with a kid whod tell him he doesn't have to be evil or something like that, and he'd probably do it because he's like a lost puppy looking for approval.

    • @Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian
      @Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian 2 years ago +14

      @Catty_Love_Ice_Cream More like, started off with original sociopath Alex's personality, but then consumed so many different people to get their memories that he learned what it's like to have other emotions than hatred and entitlement, as well as empathy and compassion. And I love that he's unhappy about that, because now he has to deal with guilt and the desire to help people other than himself and Dana ^^
      Too bad Prototype 2 took his character in the other direction and didn't bother to explain why. Hope you've read the comics, nerds!

      @starboi141 there's an easy explanation, society is regimented to be more accepting of brutal violence as opposed to nudity or swearing. That's why movies with endless killing can still get a pg13 rating, but 1 f bomb or tiddy and you got yourself an R rating

    Crackdown, Infamous, Just Cause, and Prototype were the birth of a whole new sub genre of action games. Traversal Action. The traversal mechanics play such a huge role in those series. Wish there were more like them.

    • @WideOldDan
      @WideOldDan 2 years ago +8

      Classic Assassin's Creed also had great traversal

      @WideOldDannot really, the assasins creed games were always clunky slow climbing. Nowhere near the same level as this games traversal.

    • @WideOldDan
      @WideOldDan 2 years ago +5

      If anything they're even better now. I've loved them since the first one but only recently learned a few tricks to make traversal more fun and efficient. Classic AC(the first 4) had the best movement.

    • @noobgamersland6969
      @noobgamersland6969 2 years ago +4

      dying light deserves a spot too...simply because there's literally a type of fighting in that game titled "parkour-combat" so you literally are playing with the traversal there..

  • @SamSherrington
    @SamSherrington 3 years ago +406

    I love Prototype, really hope for a third. Hell even a reboot with actual side missions and not just those silly challenges

    • @DarthMcDoomington
      @DarthMcDoomington 3 years ago +42

      Honestly, I would prefer a Soulstorm style reboot where the first game is canon but the second is being rebooted. Heller doesn't work as a protagonist in a game about gory spectacle and there was a massive number of plot holes. Also, there was already a sequel hook in the first game and the second game ignored that. Yeah, it was more subtle, being in the web of intrigue rather than an after-credits cutscene but still.

    • @leotox6423
      @leotox6423 3 years ago +16

      @DarthMcDoomington IF they actually make a sequel i really hope they pick up Pariah and project Crusade. Especially because Pariah was indirectly mentioned multiple times in both games.

    • @nugget6820
      @nugget6820 3 years ago

      @DarthMcDoomington
      Plot holes?

    • @DarthMcDoomington
      @DarthMcDoomington 3 years ago +19

      @nugget6820 Super soldiers (big power armoured guys that fight you unarmed) were already mass produced in Prototype 1, in Prototype 2 there's a string of missions revolving around preventing the mass production of super soldiers despite the fact it's ALREADY HAPPENED. You could say it's because they're a new version but then where the fuck are the originals?!
      Also, the fact they rely on a fucking comic to explain Mercer's MASSIVE change in personality is just lazy.
      Heller's also much more heroic than Mercer, so every time you mass murder civilians (and the ability to be a mass murdering sociopath with god-like power is one of Prototype's selling points) it basically creates a plot hole..

    • @nugget6820
      @nugget6820 3 years ago

      @DarthMcDoomington
      "First Outbreak
      In 2008, nearly 161 individuals were injected with a variant of the virus, and exhibited no negative side effects at all, but over time, their cellular structure was capable of regenerating much faster than the average human's. In addition to accelerated healing, or perhaps because of it, they also gained incredible strength, speed and endurance, as well near-limitless stamina."
      Direct quote from the wiki, I guess we wiped out the super soldiers and they had no need for them until the second outbreak, and by then the black watch had better tech and upgraded them.

    god I remember in the sequel just disguising as a blackwatch or army soldier and running in with a gun to help other soldiers, then when my gun ran out of ammo go bare knuckle brawling. It always was hilarious how they weren't questioning what made it possible for this average joe soldier to beat zombies and hunters to death with his bare hands.

      They actually do sometimes but not during in combat. I remember this one time when I was parkouring over the tanks and one of the marines said someting, although I can't remember what exactly the soldier said but I think its something like "Is that really one of our guys".

      Surprisingly they bought it lol.

    I just want to say, the running and automatically vaulting over stuff when running full speed in this game was so freaking awesome! it felt so smooth yet so awesome at the same time. I really felt like the movement system on how Alex vaulted and freerunned over everything and how smooth it felt controlling it was ahead of its time. Too bad this system was not build further upon.

      @Lycanthro-Punk 2 years ago

      @Dandroid_1 I played and finished both games on 360 in the past weeks. No framerate issues, no bugs, no nothing. I actually almost only play 360 titles. Don't know why everything needs to be on new systems. Theres the Biohazard Bundle for the new consoles, but they are cheap cash grabs. So you can actually play them on new consoles, but i heard there are horrible performance issues. Would be cooler if they just made it backwards compatible.

    • @Dandroid_1
      @Dandroid_1 2 years ago +5

      @Lycanthro-Punk
      I'm exclusively pc, still got my og save file from back in the day, just transferred to newer hardware.
      It works on some versions of Windows 10 but requires bug fixing that not everyone will know how to do, I don't like consoles because the cost of continually renewing XBL/PSN ends up costing much more long term, than the initial price of a pc.

    • @Lycanthro-Punk
      @Lycanthro-Punk 2 years ago

      @Dandroid_1 You don't need XBL or PSN to update consoles and games. Just a internet connection. Buying games for 360 in the latest versions means you got all patches already on the CD and in my 15 years of experience with these games, you didn't needed patching at all. I could finish every single game without problems, except old Fallout Games. They only run good on X Box One and Series S/X. You only need XBL/PSN for multiplayer and i don't like multiplayer, i'm a single player only guy. I was jobless for almost all my life, only worked for year or two and i could have never bought and maintained a PC or be able to play my old stuff on new PC's. Consoles are in the end way cheaper and easier.
      My old 360 runs for a long time now and i even got a backup console for cheap. So that's the next 15-20 years old and good games for me. Almost every new game on One didn't interested me enough to buy it. The edgy, dark and gory games seem to be vanished. I love the Dead Space titles, Prototype Games, Kane and Lynch 2, Spec Ops The Line, Metro 2033 + Last Light, Army of Two, Fear Series, Max Payne etc. They don't produce stuff like that anymore.

    The Prototype series perfectly married the feeling of being a near god with great atmosphere and an enjoyable story. One of my favorite franchises of all time. Not to mention they made a sequel even better than the original game.

      Prototype 2 better than Prototype 1? Ehhhhh. gameplay wise sure, but the story was absolutely horrid, the main character was an annoying dumbass and they ruined Alex Mercer making him a really weird standard bad guy while on the first game he was a much more complex character

    • @kaden_k.o.t.f
      @kaden_k.o.t.f 3 years ago +62

      I don't agree, prototype 2, did add some nicer mechanics and a more inviting atmosphere but as for the story is was beyond shit. Prototype 1 will always be better, in my opinion for that reason. They could have done so much with how prototype 1 ended instead they messed up the whole franchise

      Im sad that there's only 2 games. But at the same time I'm glad that there's only 2 games, since this series would've gone downhill in terms of quality, story, etc if the devs or company kept crapping then out

    What I really like about Prototype is the feeling that you're this unstoppable force that eats and kills everything, it kinda makes you feel you're powerful and yet the missions balances it out by giving out interesting and hard challenges, yes you're powerful but one wrong move and it could be your last

      @noobguy9973 I don't know man, looks to me like Cross hyperarmored through it and kept attacking. I played the hell out of this game as a teen and the claws are the best overall, but this game was made in a time where different powers were actually made to be useful

    • @noobguy9973
      @noobguy9973 3 years ago +2

      @demyx0067 ohh no Cross played like absolute shit no doubt about that. All ım saying is that blades (and whip for range) in my opinion are the only arms power you need because it has good range , potential for AOE and it even cut through tanks and armor while no enemies having strengths and counters to it (from what ı remember) unlike in Prototype 2.

    • @wesleyward5901
      @wesleyward5901 3 years ago +16

      @BonzerMrT To me, Mercer felt clunky and the controls were really weird when it came to air gliding. Heller on the other hand, was much more fluid with a better movement system.

    • @keidasshu5676
      @keidasshu5676 3 years ago +29

      @BonzerMrT he is slower than alex they also removed the parkour move for heller so that might also be contributing to what is bothering you with his movement
