- I am pleased to finally share my full review of the 2021 BMW G82 M4. At this point, it’s not even worth attempting to convey how controversial the car is. From its outlandish exterior design, to a number of questionable technical changes, does this car even deserve to be a proper M? I’m pleased to report that the answer is yes, and the G82 took me by surprise with its supremely competent driving feel, and composed chassis. This is a great car to own and enjoy as long as you can look past some of its subjective flaws. If you enjoyed this review please make sure to leave a like and subscribe for more awesome content! Thanks for watching.

Last point I forgot to mention in the review is that I noticed the G82 has a lot of front grip. The significant increase in OEM tire size and additional negative camber on the front axle allows it to feel very darty without running into much understeer. At least on backroads, maybe the track is a different story.
Lol your comment is the equivalent of saying you love bad relationships with crazy erratic people because it's more exciting......🙃 sure ok...the new M4 isn't less fun it's just a BETTER performance car objectively than the last Gen it fixes all of the things where the last one was flawed for the worst
Lovely machine. These cars look great in black!!
@@infidel900rr Mine is black and you're right. It looks terrific! Sinister is the best way to describe it. The front grill is great on a black or dark color; don't care for it on a light color--except red, but it is far better than the Lexus or Audi grills imo. Most of the people bitching about it wouldn't or couldn't buy the car anyway. Couldn't be happier with the way mine looks--inside and out.
@@michaels3897 sorry mate, own a 2017 f82 over here and I just cannot get behind that grill in any color on the g series. Happy for you that you like your car but for me they just fubbed the looks to much for me this gen to even call it a beemer, and I was totally ready to move into a new m4 when they were coming out, before I saw one. Look more like a blend of Kia and ford imho.
Unfortunately my next car will be a z06 or some merc audi. Bmw has lost me until the fix that front facia up.
@@aaronfreeman3890 Drove Corvettes for 15 years before the M4C. Short hood/long deck put me off. Agree that if it doesn't look good to you, then it's not for you. Both M4C and C8 have great powertrains, but looks matter. Hope you're not planning on getting a C8 Z06 anytime in the next 10 years. They are a joke here in the US with "allocations, lists and who knows how many tens of thousands of (US) dollars over MSRP. Great car, but not if priced like a Porsche GT3.
The new gen grills is starting to grow on me😩😩
I bought a G80 and was so against it and now I fucking love the look
It only looks good in black imo
I’m hearing this a lot lately, same happened to me the day I saw it in person🥺😩
Only in black though 😂😂
it only grows on me with darker colors like black or tanzanite blue. Otherwise I still don't love it personally
This car is absolutely stunning. Love the fiona red interior. I’ve had a 2022 G82 M4 XDrive on order for a couple months now. Excited to take delivery.
I honestly love the fact that you have to be careful in the F8X and you have to know what your doing it’s a lot of fun and demands your full attention and when you do get traction oh man is it fun currently FBO full E85 and it’s a handful but I love it
Me too man, it's definitely what makes it such a thrill to drive each time!
Maybe on solo drives, but an unrefined chassis gets in the way when you're on the track or even doing a spirited drive with friends. I'd rather have a car with massive front end grip and a tidy rear end when chasing or being chased through the canyons.
Ugh I wished I would have bought one prior to the pandemic, there were plenty low mileage M4's around me for $35k in 2020. Now they are all $45-50k with way more miles
@@mislavkonjik2827 Yup I agree. The F8x has the looks but everything else from the interior and chassis is just superior in the G8x.
Good content man. As someone who is looking into purchasing an M4, I found this video helpful. Thank you.
I didn’t like the grille myself at the beginning but sold my M235i and bought a G82 competition in tanzanite , it’s an outstanding car
love your video's keep up the great content. You have to make a video with the 2021 m440i!
hey man, great review...always appreciate your ability to articulate the nuances of these cars. Hope to see more soon.
Love your style man. Great review.
Great review! Definitely noticed many of those key points during my recent first drive as well.
thanks man! i’ll check out your review
Agree about the color, and I think vorstein style grill helps a lot
I think this car could benefit a size 305 tire in the back. I had the chance to joust with one of these at triple digit speeds in my ZL1-1LE. The M4 did well but it did not like the damp conditions on the day. It drifted wide into the outer lane of a two lane triple digit sweeper and I was able to creep up the inside of it. Not that this matters to most folks buying this car but it's just an observation I had when I got to ride with one finally. I think that car was on Continentals too.
I have a manual G82 on order, Isle of Man Green with a Tartufo brown full leather interior and the moon roof. I'm not a fan of black cars, especially when the have all black trim and wheels. I didn't like the front end at first when I saw the photos in the magazines, but I came to like it a lot better when I saw it in person at the dealer. I currently have a manual F82, Sakhir Orange with matching Sakhir Orange and black full leather interior which I ordered in 2014 and took delivery that November. I has been a great car, trouble free, for 7 years but now I want to get a new one, a manual while I still can.
You should carry spare batteries for your cameras from now on so when your battery fails, you can just swap in the spare.
Man I love the new bmw’s!!! The front grill really grew on me!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome review! I agree with pretty much everything you said, from the darker colors drowning out the pig snout to the steering and transmission. Have you tried one of these with a performance-oriented alignment? Getting a proper alignment with more positive caster, negative camber, and slight toe-in made the EPS in my 2019 Miata even more responsive, direct, and gave me some more feedback that I was looking for.
And I'm glad to hear someone else who shares the same opinion as me of the ZF 8 speed. Very fast, smooth torque converter, but it does lack the engagement and feeling that a DCT gives you. I had a 2013 135is with the DCT and I loved how direct and engaging it felt, the pops on upshifts, and truthfully it felt just as smooth if not more than most automatics I've been in. Fantastic transmission. I've driven and ridden in some cars with the ZF and it seems to be trying to emulate a DCT and just feels artificial and a bit disappointing IMO
The thing is 800whp stock turbo 9sec passes with a tune and a downpipe that thing is a monster
Great review
Great review 👍🏿.
Good video, thanking for your honesty.
glad you enjoyed!
I love the look of the lowering springs and spacers. I want to get them for my g82 m4 too, did you ever feel like it was so low you had to stress a lot about pot holes or bumps? Did it ever feel cumbersome at that ride height?
Nice review man! I think for this generation I would definitely go for the manual over the auto! Especially with how they put in a torque converter auto instead of the DCT and they improved the manual!
same here! 6MT is the move!
I never thought the G8x would grow on me but it has lol. Especially with an aftermarket csl or vorsteiner grille. The M4 Gt3 just had a 1-2 finish in GT racing recently against Audi R8s, AMG GT etc. The S58 is a monster and has to be appreciated since the next generation will be some type of hybrid…. And will probably look worse lol
Looks stunning in black 👌
There we go 🔊
This spec looks mad clean
100% agree in a black or dark colour makes the grill tolerable as its not so in your face
you stay posting good content bro
appreciate it bro
Never mind the design, that's grown on me too. My dissapointment is the length/width/weight. Just keeps on growing. Nice clip...
Thanks man, i agree with you on sizing/weight
I wonder if you can manual swap an awd version. Maybe with like a manual 340 xdrive transmission
Great review man
Thanks brotha!
@@SimplyCarThings Sure thing! Wondering what your opinions are on a few things if you don't mind.
1) How did you like the S58 sound?
2) What are your thoughts on the Supra (if you've driven one) vs. G80 Manual? I haven't driven a G8X M car yet, but I currently own a Stage 2 A91 Supra that I'm selling with a manual G80 M3 on order. I hear similar things about the ZF auto in the G8X that translates to how the experience is with the Supra for me, even with a good amount of more power with my mods. I definitely feel like this car would be an upgrade given its an S58 vs B58, 6 speed, and has all the other comfort and practicality factors that the Supra can't provide me with, such as back seats. It also is more track ready from the factory with more cooling, better brakes, and an M chassis.
Your thoughts are appreciated!
Also love the specs, it’s very Glendale spec’d
Every other car channel on RUclips < simply car things
thats a hell of a compliment bro, thank you!!
Dark colors = the way to go on G8X. I actually like the grills and this kind of happens every new gen where there is a lot of change.. this is what the e4x people were saying about the e9x and now e9x is considered a classic and a lot of peoples favorite. I can't wait to see what the CS/CSL is capable of if the M5 CS is anything to look at.
i really agree. i owned an e90 and i love the look. i have an f30 and i love it, now i’m looking at getting a g series shassis and i really have nothing to say about the design anymore. but again, it depends on the color. in a grey and black, the g8x is perfect
You say that until you get a dark color & start seeing scratches on the car that were never there because they’re easier to see.
@@maxbtaughtme2781 Yeah, I've seen one wrapped in a GTR midnight purple with carbon addon splitter and skirts and bronze wheels.. it's amazing. It's also one of the fastest in the UK and from first group of tuners with unlocked ECU, makes like 700hp or something. Look up NVM G80 M3.
@@xDeadEye1 Yes I guess? I only buy dark color cars anyways so personal preference.
E46 is the worst M3 by far
We couldn't get extended leather on the manual cars in Australia unfortunately. But then you get those stupid orange reflectors and yellow sticker inside the headlights that we don't have 🤣. We also get silver aluminium window controls. My only gripe with the manual is 6th not being tall enough for cruising
G80 looks so damn good in black sheesh 😻😻
I still cant get into it. Those grills will never grow on me, no matter how bad ass the car is.
it's a tough one to love, id say all black is definitely the way to go tho if you are gonna get into one
In manual maybe. In automatic no DCT. Not into torque converter transmissions.
That intro was hard
Not going to lie, blimey that looks so nice. It has to be black for it to look nice and blend the front nose better. Unfortunately maybe black will just become the norm spec and colour of choice and will just look like everyone else....
yea the spec you go with this time around really matters in my opinion
What’s instrumental in the back of 0:00 to 0:40
True, only the black one is acceptable!
I’m wondering what the LCI will look like
Been waiting for you to make a review of the g8x vs the f8x. How did you feel about the exhaust note in low to high speeds compared to the f8x ?
its fairly quiet from the outside. Compared to my car with the M Performance exhaust + downpipes, it's like listening to a mouse haha, but the S58 engine sounds really good. the owner will be removing the resonators and secondary cats pretty soon and ill be making a video of the exhaust note
Enjoy your videos and have been a subscriber--and liker, for some time. You are WAY off base on the M4 Comp though. I've had mine since late April, having driven Corvettes for 15 years before. It is the fastest car I've ever owned; the response from the ZF8 is immediate--maybe a millisecond or two slower than a DCT, but makes up for it by being much smoother when you're not on it hard. Max torque is available at 2750, so have no idea of why you think it doesn't kick until 4-5000 rpms. It hits you at 28-2900 like a ton of bricks and doesn't stop until 5500 or so, gradual decline, but HP is still rising. The car puts out power--much more than the manual, until redline. If you screw up the paddle shifters, that's on you. But in auto, it is "brutally" or "barbarically" fast as C&D and Motor Trend each described it. Sure, the stick is fun, but it can't match the Competition in any facet of performance. And the M4 is the best M, period, dollar for dollar BMW has ever made. You only had the car for a short time, of course, but it was unlike you to be so off course.
hey man, thanks for the feedback. i don’t doubt your comment at all, but the “lag” i experienced while driving the car was definitely present and something that I was being truthful about. For example, go to 4:02 and watch the car build acceleration from 2nd gear, that was with the throttle fully pinned from about 2200 rpm. Maybe it’s just a 6MT specific quirk because of the significantly longer gearing as opposed to the 8AT which would theoretically keep you in the meat of the powerband but i have to drive a comp model again to see for myself. Also i mentioned how that was a good thing, not something bad, because it seemed to help put power down incredibly well. In regards to the ZF8, i disagree that the response is immediate. Sure it’s quick to shift, but there is a noticeable delay between the time you pull the paddle to the time the gearshift occurs. (Yes its impressively quick for a torque converter) but i actually found myself hitting the paddle early on to time the upshifts correctly so the car didn’t bog which is something i really did not like. If you attempt to shift at redline in 1st gear with a ZF8 the gearbox will refuse to do so as a mechanical fail safe to protect the rotating components inside of the transmission itself. It’s like this with the F90 M5C, the Supra, the X6M, & the G8X. DCT never did that, and that’s also why the ZF8 still needs improvement imo. No doubt at all the car is bonkers fast, I never claimed it was slow or anything. But it’s just a lot smoother in the way it delivers speed
@@SimplyCarThings "Immediate" in terms of torque converter boxes, of course. The PDK is the best, fastest DCT out there, but most of the others sacrifice smoothness 80% of the time for quickness. For me, I liked the C7 8 speed--on auto, not paddles. They were really slow. The ZF is fantastic either way. Anyhow, appreciate your response and do enjoy your videos. The ones I've shared have been liked, as well--so while we may disagree on some stuff, obviously keep them coming! And you are correct that the gearing in the manual is far less performance enhancing than the ZF. At 2200 rpm, both have lag--but like I said, at 2750, it hits like a load of bricks. The ZF displays that far better.
@@michaels3897 I'm sure it does, looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of a comp model and providing a review. Thanks for the support and I appreciate you sticking around!
Did you do something to the front grill? Somehow it looks so much better.
its the OEM front grille. I just think the all-black helps to blend it in so much better than with any other color
Damn that car looks good but the weight difference is huuuge a 2018 f82 como weighs a little less then 3,400 lbs while this one weighs just under 3,900😨
CSL is on testing phase. Lighter and with definitely more power, that one should be a beast. And of course, the next M2. That’s the one I can’t wait to see.
I’m not a big fan of the new 2 series, hopefully the m2 looks nicer. I can imagine with a little wider arches it would look much better.
@@alextasarov1341 The M2 will definitely be wider than the M240i. The front bumper will also be different.
Yes man
F80 M3 /F82 M4 last true M cars which you are afraid after kickdown gas pedal.. ❤️f8x❤️
indeed!!
That's not classic M. Every M except for the F8x traded in low end torque for linear, high end power. The G8x is a return to form for the M3/4, with precise and neutral handling and a linear power band.
I have a F82 6mt, i think the G82 looks great until you get to that grill, they really shit the bed there
Spending 80k and having to 'disguise' that hideous grill doesn't seem practical. F8X is silly the best looking M3/4 ever.
agreed, non-biasly of course!
@@aaronfreeman3890 me neither. And I own a 2018 M4. E46 would be a close second.
@@GracelessTarnished a very close second
Yeah sorry I have driven one at the m track days in Monticello. It might be a great track car but the zf and looks just didn’t do it for me. I love my 18 zcp f80 dct so much. Never getting rid of this thing.
We are looking for a family car now too and now I’m hating the new bmw interiors. That silly highly rectangular iPad they are putting in is just making it difficult to find a bmw I like. I might order an x7 m50 before the lci ruins the interior.
Would you yourself buy one though? Owning a tuned a sorted M4 yourself? Engine is a monster but I simply don't like the looks and super flashy interior, yet to see one with just black or darker grey accents
I couldn’t buy this car without the bucket seats. The regular ones look like they belong in a convertible
When i heard they stepped away from the dct it really broke my heart 💔
same man, DCT is a huge part of why I love my f82
@@SimplyCarThings im keeping mines forever just cause of that and im buying a 335is to keep as well. Modern classics
I had an f82 manual and drove the new g82 with a manual and I can say the same thing with they just wanted to make it more of a daily driver. Less motorsport feel from the engine in the g82 and still is ugly compared to the f82. Its cool but at 90k with how i would spec one i can’t justify buying one if i don’t love it fully. It does look better in darker colors though. When do h82 talks start lmao.
10 seconds faster around the Nurburgring.
Agree! I’ve seen this is person and it not bad looking, but as soon as I see a F82, it just doesn’t look as beautiful, also in the UK it standard price around 75k pounds, once the specs been added around 85k pounds, f83 comp with around 18k miles and 1-2 years old is around 50k pounds
@@trentmeister6001 who cares if its not as fun to drive on the street what's the point
@@Donolotti I have more fun in my g82 than I ever did in my F87c it blows the old car out of the water in literally every way. Don’t believe me compare every review from unbiased people. G82>F82
The car is nuts don't get me wrong but they use S63 rods which there have been a few tuned examples already bending them. Stock they are complete beasts. Not the best looking.
Woah this spec…
Bmw went offff when they made the f8x … g8x is iight but I’ll stick to my f80
I just took delivery of my g80 m3 in September . Sold my f82. G80 for me all day.. much better
It is 200 lbs heavier and if you get the AWD model, which will add even more weight, will the base M4 be faster than the last generation of M4s?
WAY faster
@@trentmeister6001 Way faster?
If i make it on RUclips the m4 or m3 will be my car. Id take my dog with me on rides everywhere in it. I love how it looks personally, id get it in that yellow color with the blue carbon seats.
6MT :)))
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Very good review!
thank you very much!
It would be nice for the autobahn or something like that. Too big for me. The next m2 will be the next decent M car.
I feel the opposite, I’ve always felt like the m2 is too small, cute and adorable. It’s just too feminine no matter how much I try to force myself to like it. It’s gotta be the m4 for me, just shopping around for the right one so I can pull the trigger.
I'm with you on that. The M4/M3 have gotten too heavy. They are good for cruising and rolling on the boulevard.
Yeah just a different generation of BMW fans. I was fortunate enough to grow up with 4 friends that had e30 M3s @ 16 years old , some of them had 20k miles on the clock as well. Good ol days. So yeah Just a different generation of taste.
Great review on the G82. im sure that its a great performance car. But in my opinion, its just UGLY. plain and simple. the rear end is ok, but the front is just beyond ok. For $90K i would much rather get a used M5 for many reasons. But if i were to get a G8X, it would be a darker color, for reasons you mentioned, and it would be a manual. i can only hope BMW took note of all the people who say its ugly, even Chip Foose, and redesign it. Shaving some weight would not hurt either. to me its like they are trying to make it a smaller cheaper M5.
Thanks man. I don’t think BMW will do anything to change the design honestly. My faith lies within the upcoming M2, but I have low hopes given how things have transpired over the last year and a half
im the type to buy a g8x and put an s55 into it
that’s the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard.
“Not even gonna say what speed that was”
Speedo: *87MPH* 😂😂😂
Great looking ride!!
LMAO, thank you hahaha
@@SimplyCarThings you’re welcome bro lol
The G82 looks just right with the big grills!
Looks so mean I’m black specially with that interior
BSM hides the twin Lung.
yes it does
U still rank this #5???
Chad manual transmission
The g82 reminds me of an rcf too much. The g80 on the other hand that shit is nice.
Am i the only one that started to like bmw more basic no nonsense interior layout?
I personally feel the M4 is too big and too heavy. The big rubber and the x-drive keep things firmly in control which is good but at nearly two tons, I don't think it really works as a sport car anymore. This is more of a GT type car.
i agree it is a large car, but to my pleasant surprise behind the wheel it doesn't feel nearly as big. And its handling/driving capabilities are very sports car like. Its impressive
"Too big and too heavy" is what you say when you haven't driven it. The car is much faster on track than the F8x, and that's not just because of the S58. This car grips like crazy, and the new chassis responds instantly to steering input and goes where it's supposed to in a very neutral manner. Go test drive one, it's a clear upgrade over the previous generation as a sports car.
The car is way more than the weight number on the spec sheet.
@@KandiMan Yeah, bigger tires will do that for you. It’s a standard trick to get heavier cars to somewhat mask their weight.
@@billymania11 Tires help, but it’s not the whole story. It’s not like you can simply put on wider fronts on the F8x and get it to match the G8x handling. The chassis and suspension are meaningfully upgraded over the old car.
This will be a properly worthy replacement...
Looks perfect from almost every angle.... but 🐽
No car should be UGLY for over 90k.
Na you didn’t drive the comp hard enough. The zf is better than dct period. Dct only holds a harshness factor over its head.
hate the grill
Is this just me or it has new supra spices?
When I've seen black G80/G82 colors, I'm shocked at just how much better it looks when those big beaver teeth are slightly hidden. I REALLY do NOT think this will be a "timeless design" like some BMW models, but I at least don't gag at it anymore. Still holding out hope for some really good, inexpensive aftermarket bumpers lol
Lol I’m lookin at it thinking about swapping the new engine to the f8x xD just looks so good imo. But so expensive
Looks like you’ve got an f80 M3 yourself (which I think is the best looking M3 ever made). The F8X gen is the best as far as exterior looks go.
imagine getting this car in automatic lol
It’s just too boring to me. BMW need to bring back their classic designs
It doesnt feel like a full M car from my experience
Black hides the ugly better 🍻
What about the other ugly, like scratches lol. Have fun with a dark colored car & seeing new scratches on it everytime you look at it.
Meh, the grill made me love BMWs, now I can leave them. Lexus guys can come on over now and start supporting BMWs.
So sad that horrible front.
The grill only looks acceptable on a black car , otter than that it looks terrible
Nice car just not a fan of the refrigerator on steroids sound, I'll keep the ZL1 and kick this thing's azz on any roadcourse for about 1/2 the price plus that beautiful LT4 soundtrack. Beemer fanbois are annoying
Thank god BMW finally ditched the awful DCT …… smart move
i will get this car by 24
It's cool as a daily but no longer the ultimate m car anymore as most people now see it as a baby m5, no longer as a sports car. The m2 is the last one, however porky it may be. Even though it barely got any power for this coming gen because bmw defined it to hell.
They never were sports cars, they are GT sporty cars, improved versions of the regular sedan. The real sports car is the Z4, or the Supra. Dedicated platform, 2 seats, RWD and lighter (at least the Supra is lighter).
@@0Camus0 they are sports cars. The dictionary defines sport cars as a "low-built car designed for performance at high speeds." No where does it say it HAS to be rwd or its HAS to be a 2 seater. That's all marketing from car manufacturers.
While they may never be "true" sports cars to enthusiasts (no cars made today are except for few outliers and one offs), they were marketed as sport cars and sold as sports cars/sedans becuase they tick all the right sport car boxes. Remember that the "sport cars" moniker is branding mainly for car manufacturers because "true sport cars" are illegal because of safety issues.
@@Mogadypopz The G8x is significantly faster than the F8x as measured at the world's most important tracks. This is a better-performing sports car than the F8x by a meaningful margin. As a bonus, it also has a docile, daily driver-friendly nature when driven calmly with all modes set to Comfort/Efficient, but don't be fooled - the car's a beast when driven like one.
@@KandiMan well of course. It comes with awd and more aggressive tires. But on autocross or any thing require nimbleness, its way too porky. 4000 pounds and an auto. Racing isnt just race tracks and nurburgring times. Thats just marketing for cars and a way to show off stats.
first
If you have to pick a dark color to disguise the ugliness of your ride - then you chose the wrong car. IMHO. Big, heavy, luxurious, fast, and EXPENSIVE They've lost the plot. The F87 M2/M2c was spot on, but they're gonna screw up the next one - watch.

It looks worse on the in and outside, sounds worse, worse transmission. Nah
