all these videos are treasure for bow fans so thanks. if I may have one suggestion it would be to have more voice over videos. as much as we're ok seeing you we much rather see more of the car. Good job tho!!!
Great vid Joe...Let me ask you this, what would stop someone from tuning this standard G82 6 speed manual to the Comp ZF 8 speed numbers? Would the clutch be an issue over time and would an upgrade in that department be essential or no?
It's very refreshing to see a manual in such a car. As is said so many times, too many people focus on outright speed which is plentiful in an auto but nowhere near as engaging. It's such a shame it's not available here in the UK. Looking forward to seeing more of this car. Keep up the good work Joe.
Did BMW UK make this decision on the basis of eg. recent previous M5 vs M5 Competition sales? If so, stupid basis of decision making isn't it, because they weren't differentiated by availability of a totally different type of gearbox. Also some previous BMW manuals were more mediocre than this one, and there's as many great manual roads as anywhere here. So what were BMW UK thinking? Please slap them.
100% agree. Not available here because only 2% of the f80/82's were bought as manuals. Hardly a financial Incentive for BMW to bring this car to the UK. Generally speaking they all use the same ZF gearbox as used in the 1M but uprated with twin clutch plates. Very few people in the UK have driven a manual f82 but you'll read lots of negative comments about them from owners of DCT equipped cars! The DCT cars had lower monthly payments when new because of predicted higher residual values and that's one reason they are so popular. The manual drives like an old school manual turbo car coming off and then on boost between changes, it feels and sounds great while making the car less aggressive and jerky. They're great, find one, drive it and decide for yourself. Grab a competition and they're lower in numbers than an M2 CS so really rather special.
Thanks Joe. Long live the manual! You hit the nail on the head - less power & torque but who cares, with a manual, you're using more of the car, more of the time and you are engaged and rewarded duly for being so. Thank you BMW Germany for producing such a wonderful modern day sportscar (albeit not a great looking one :D)
So little out there on the manual G80/G82 - so this is great to see. Looking forward to more content - and how you reflect at the end of 2 weeks with the car.
I have a m3 g80 in manual. It was the best choice of my car life. These are very fast cars. You will not miss the power unless you track the car. Please drive these cars. They will blow your mind
Words cannot describe how I feel about manual BMWs (or beemers in general). Yes Audi has their Quattro drive system, and Mercedes has the massively flashy and fancy interiors. Nothing cuts it for me quite like a BMW. Currently looking for a manual M135i (before the most recent one), can't wait for my first RWD experience to be in something like that AND for it to be a manual too. Thank you for the content Joe, you're responsible for turning me into a petrolhead and a lifelong BMW fan!
@@JoeAchilles1 About your point about many of these cars being fast enough (especially on UK roads), would you then think maybe a 2018/2019 118i would be better suited than a M135i/M140i? Because I, like you, enjoy "working" for the speed, I don't want to be able to get up to 70mph that easily in 3 seconds. Does that make sense? What do you think? P.S. a 118i is probably cheaper too lol
I had a manual M235i for about 4 years. With the mperformance exhaust it was a blast to drive. Loved every mile in that thing. Had 2 different M135is before that (pre and post lci) and the 2 series felt so much better to drive. Better rear grip too I found. Just my 2p but another world compared to a 118i. Not just in terms of engine👍
Hey Joe, when I manual swapped my e46 it did a lot more popping and crackling than when it had the slush box, I'm not sure what the science behind it is though, but manual vs auto does sound a little different, so definitely not just in your head! 🙂
Definitely one of the best specs out there for the new M4 🚀 Talk about LHD/RHD challenges - at least you kept the wing mirrors on 😂 Glad you enjoyed the roads mate, and great video as always! 🙏🏻

Really enjoying your most recent content Joe - it’s very well put together in a relaxed style. Just a proper old school car review and it really works!
Can't say I've ever had the chance to test it, but my theory has always been if you want to go as fast as possible, get an auto, if you want to have fun, get a manual! And that body colour :-o looks awesome!
Although, only 12.24% of people in the UK are left-handed. It would probably be easier for you to get accustomed to shifting with your right (if you're right-handed), than a right-handed person having to learn to shift with their left.
Great start. I’d like to see you do a city trip with the manual box. Munich is a great place for lunch, check out the oldest restaurant & try the pork knuckle. It’s awesome 👌
Manuals are just cool aren’t they. I did consider going to a ZF8 when shopping for my M240i LCI but I knew I’d miss the engagement and the manual gearbox in my old 230i really made that car quite special. The M240i had a few more miles on it than I initially wanted but it was a single owner car from a bmw dealership and quite cheap so I’m more than happy with it. I hope this manual in the G82 can work it’s way to the M2 and maybe even the incoming M240i in the future, we’ll see I guess. Very cool to see you venturing out for more unique content Joe, some discussion type content with Robert and the guys at Apex would be really awesome to see 👌🏾

If your worst issue is mis-shifts, you’re doing well. When I moved to Germany I kept smacking the inside of the drivers door with my left hand as I came into corners 😆 BTW I just got a new m340i in Tanz blue, and loving it .
Being left handed, changing gear in a rhd car feels so natural to me. The moment I get in a hire car abroad I'm opening the door to change gear 🤣. Top video, thanks Joe.
Got news for you. You’re on the correct side of the car and road now! 🤣 Great video and content. I agree to send that much and skip over the Harmon Kardon sound seems an odd choice.
This is a great video. Love your content and presentation style. I’m currently leasing an M2 which I’m going to buy out for my wife and am torn choosing between an M3 manual and the M4 manual for my next car. Black Sapphire metallic, carbon package, black interior, bi-colour wheels, laser headlights. This car stock apparently traps 121mph in the quarter. That’s a lot of power and an awesome trap speed for a car of that weight.

I really want to try the manual box, but living with the ZF over the last week is the M3 I had, it’s just such a good combo I would struggle to swap it…. But would want the extra power!!! Great video as always

Great car..saw one last weekend in a nardo type gray and was impressed other than then front end. Looks very modern. Sounded nice enuff. Long time M owner with e46, e92, and F80 M3s and now a F82 M4. Great cars…interested in your thoughts on it! Enjoy it! 👍🏽
This car will probably end up a collectible.
Hey joe, great video. Would like to see you film bmw welt or bmw m division aswell😄
Hey Joe! Break down the great ratios of the manual to the auto pls. Let's see just how much torque they've cut from the auto to the manual one!
Awesome content as usual👍
Manuals in RWD M3/4 easily available in the USA.
I really want to try the manual box, but living with the ZF over the last week is the M3 I had, it’s just such a good combo I would struggle to swap it…. But would want the extra power!!! Great video as always
Yeah ZF makes for a great daily box, but just a bit lifeless when pushing on....
@@JoeAchilles1 fair point, nothing beats a manual, let’s hope it makes its way over here and on the competition!
Can't see that happening unfortunately. Thankfully at least the manual M2 has unofficially been confirmed for the UK 👌
@@JoeAchilles1 😀
As I understood, manual version is not an option in the UK? What would you choose if you could, manual or automatic? I placed an order for M3 Comp, but still thinking of changing to manual 🤷🏻♂️
