Great video , I hav a 2021 m5 competition, I just wondered how much difference there is in acceleration/ speed between the m5 and the new m3/4 as u hav driven both thanks
@@nickmeyrick7213 Thank you! Off the line, the M5 would destroy it, but once rolling (30mph +), I can't imagine it would be massively different, M5 still quicker though.

@@hazardeur currently own one and it is amazing however the e92 m3 limited edition 500 I had is the best car I have ever driven!! That engine was an absolute belter!!
@@Watchlover371 had an e92 too and miss it since. but the m4 comp i got after was a worthy successor. wish i could have em both lol
@@hazardeur indeed! Miss the fact that the e92 was a lot more compact too!! Also loved how u could unlock a secret sixth level of gearshift ferocity if you knew how! 😉
F82 still looks much better, even though I got used to the look of the new G82 and I stopped hating it.
Front end of the F is better but the back end of the G is fantastic 👌🏽

@@urbanweekendwarrior7238 not for everyone. Also depends on the color. I ordered mine in blue, looks fantastic. The grey is also 👌🏽
I dont have any issue with the size of grill but the shape of G80/82 grills are really really bad.i meant how it passed even in design department.how but how i cant get over them.such a mess to beautiful cars.

Wow that F82 looks even better when it’s side by side with its successor.
It's amazes me how the new one went with the ugly Lexus inspired design, when the old one was touted for being such a better looking car than the RCF.
Agree the G82 looks so bland side by side to the car it replaced
@@johnulmer1622 i think bmw was in a pickle and they couldn't release a new car with the same grill as all the bmw's from the 2010s.
it would have been nice to actually see them side by side without 2 motor journalists standing in the way.

One has more power, the other is the better car. Probably the best colour/spec for the F82.
When he first said he expected the newer car to be a full second faster on that mini 300 yard track I laughed way too hard... A few tenths sure, a full second maybe on a track 5x larger.
He said that as the X5M comparison did show up a few second difference on the same exact track, with a similar old vs new model test. So such differences are indeed possible on this track.
Watching the laps, I thought the older car looked like it was much more composed - almost to the point you weren’t pushing it so hard!
f82 became an instant classic
Really wish BMW M would have left the Stunning F80/82 exterior alone and just updated the interior and Tuned the engine. The G series isn’t ugly but it’s not a masterpiece like the F80.
I think the G is ugly… plain and simple. The F8X looks good from any angle.
You'll get used to it and complain about the new m4. So obvious

Super job Joe - as a f82 owner it was making me cry into my cornflakes a little everyone bashing the older car in context of the new one, so this makes me feel a little better! Also, don't sell your M2 comp before I get you a custom cover for that charge cooler!

0:15 that body line from front vent to the tail lights is the thing that makes the exterior of both F80 M3 and F82 M4 superior to the G80/G82. On the new one it looks like designers didn't know what they want to do with the body lines. On M3 it looks somewhat good but not as awesome as on F8x

Guys thanks for the video - I’m actually quite surprised and definitely pleased with the results! I recon my F82 might be sticking around for a bit longer..... The old one is definitely the best looking one ever with the v8 second place, I think it will be an absolute classic one day

Great video Joe! I have an F83 (convertible) and i love the way it looks. Had me wondering if i made the right choice when i bought it 14 months ago. This video was really eye opening for me. The new version looks great - but I think the older one looked better and the difference in performance is not enough of a difference to make me have buyers remorse!

Quite disheartening by the new car, thought it would be miles ahead of the older car.
I guess I should say its a credit to how good the old car was/is
specially when the new ones are over 80k! Just couldn't justify it could you. The depreciation is bound to be massive on them too. Wait a few years and might be a bargain when you can get them for 35k.
Don't get fooled. Almost every journalist hated the F82 when it came out. The new one being better doesn't fit the narrative of "they don't make them like they used to" applied to most manufacturers except Porsche, Honda and Toyota.

Hi Joe, another excellent video! As an F80 M3 owner, I looked at the specs of the G80 and saw minimal performance differences (probably due to the increased weight). This video has shown that the gearbox on the G80 is somewhat laggy as well. I still cannot get over 1) the ugly grille and 2) the broken hoffmeister kink on the new 3 series. As a 25 year BMW owner (3s, 5s, Ms, Zs and 7s over the years) this generation 3 series unfortunately brings bad memories of the Bangle 7 series (ugly then, ugly now). The F8X M cars have defined flanks, very flared wheel arches, the power dome and proper sized grilles. The marginal improvement in performance and the design of the G8X cars means there is little compelling reason to change to the new car.
Exciting to see more and more of Joe's driving skills!

Exactly what I was waiting to see. I have 2018 M4 competition with full MPE and in M performance spec including a DTM rear spoiler. Yes it's showing its age next to the newer M4 but all in all I'd rather stick with mine. Plus mine sounds amazing with the full titanium M performance exhaust! A must have.

I owned an E92 Comp for 5 years and a F82 for 3. Both brand new. While the F82 was an incredible car I will always remember the E92 as the best car I have ever owned. - the most significant difference was the steering. I never had the same confidence in the F82 like I did in the E92. - moving on and can’t wait for the G82.

I was getting a tiny bit used to the M4's look, but seeing it next to the F80 just undid all of that.
The F82 looks so much better when it is next to G82. I had seen G80 and G82 in flesh and was never inpressed by the face. Could not keep my eyes on the grill for over 3 seconds or I would puke. Other than that, G80/82 is a big step forward.
Big step forward ? Interior I would agree but performance and handling and looks certainly not. If anything the size and weight is a step backwards.

The biggest performance upgrade that you can make to any M car.
Hardly a bigger turbo would be the biggest!

After watching this I got the m4 compétition and put it in stage 2 … man i will never regret ! Although I was hesitating but really now I can literally eat the new m4 compétition … it’s just a waste of money the f82 in stage 2 is better looking and better in performance
Fantastic design the F82 man...this generation is as gorgeous as it gets! I have an F36 with the same design, have put BBS CH-R 19" wheels, lowered it a bit and it's just a gorgeous car! Everyone praises it hahaha

Great video though, even though it's a very short track, and on a longer track with long straights I think the new one would really pull away.

I have been saying that the 4S's is a hell of an upgrade when put on the rear of the F82/F83. (If grip is your thing :))

DCT is such a joy.
My f82 is the best car I’ve ever owned. Puts a smile in my face every time I drive it. No matter the mood. Always makes you happy.
What the ZF automatic does in auto/sport mode: it brings up the engine revs and hovers there for more power while using the torque converter until engine/gear shaft revs match. That increases power and torque for a moment - you can see this (and hear it) when the G82 takes of in auto mode. The DCT can't do that (other than in launch control mode).
There's a beautiful 2019 M4 competition,near me,for sale,at £43k,well specced with only 5k miles on the clock.Just a remap to smooth out the savage power delivery and it seems like a bargain..

Ive got a black M4 comp with red leather. 🔥. Just make sure to get the 'icon led' lights and the adaptive leds - this grey m4 looks great but doesnt have the icon's. IMO icon leds looks amazing and sharper and more modern and make the car look almost new. A chap came up to me in a petrol station a couple of days ago and said he has 2020 M4 too but my lights look so much striking. I explained that I have the icon led pack and he said his dealer told him he that. He didnt realise actually had the bmw adaptive led and felt ripped off after I showed him the light design on my car. He was gutted. For me it was a dealer break. You wont regret the f82, amazing and most colours look great anyhow. Snb was my first choice but I couldnt get red leather combi so went for black. No regrets! I still think they look better than the g82 but not seen new m4 yet
Would like to see this same comparison with the F82 running Bootmod3 and HAS suspension . I suspect most people running an F80/82 at this point have Bootmod3. I’d be curious to see how that compares.
Hey Joe- i know this is an old video. BMW revised the Comp Pack suspension for 2019-2020 model year F82. Loved to have seen the 2019 CS vs M4 Comp G82

You were changing up before the f80 was settled on the tightest corner, was that to keep the tail in line? I don't know the course or the cars so not being critical, just wondering because it sounded like you left a bit behind.

As an f80 owner, I have had a go at the G82 and as you really push it hard, you do feel the weight, somewhat and I resonate with this perfomance over the f82, these results, sort of stabilize the price of the f82 and f80.... But the G, Ms lare great cars, save for the grill..
Great video! ... that last rip from 2nd gear from the same speed wasn't an equal start though.. they have a completely diff trans/ gearing which you obviously know
@Joe Achilles, great review! I've been waiting for this comparison since the G82 unveil.
Interesting to see how much extra traction the MPS4s made to the F82, i suspect MPSS would never launch so well.
Also, MDM on the F82 is far more restrictive than on the G82, hence the comment made that it looked as though you were overdriving but in reality MDM on the F82 doesn't allow the slip angles the G82 offers that can be adjusted by the new variable traction settings.
Would be interesting to see both woth DSC deactivated completely...
Re the 2nd gear Rolling Race - the reason the G82 picked up so much quicker in 2nd gear is gearing. The 8 speed ZF has more closely spaced ratios - 2nd in the ZF is halfway between 1st & 2nd in the DCT ...it's all a function of Torque via gearing. Do the same test in a 6 speed manual G82 & guaranteed they will be dead even, the G82 gaining only into the higher gears i suspect.
No doubt G82 is a weapon and dynamically overcomes it's mass.
Basically get the older gen with a tune and sticky tires and your good..I still feel that extra power in the new one gives it a bit more top end tho

Love to see what a f80 M3 with bm3 on just a OTS map would do. For a 1k$ upgrade with downpipes I bet it would be slightly ahead.
Other than the much better looks, the reason I love the F82 is the manual gearbox option.
