I love the involvement of manual transmissions so much that I’d be willing to give up +/- 30HP and +/- 70 ft-lbs of torque, but just barely. I mean, what gives with the odd pairing of just one transmission choice per model? It makes almost zero sense. Props to Cadillac’s upcoming Blackwings for a no compromise 6 speed manual. Oh, and a V8!
When I first heard about these vehicles coming out I was so excited about the thought of a manual, AWD, 500 hp M3. To me it sounded like the perfect winter car. Then of course they decided not offer it like that. So I went from a serious buyer to just a enthusiast who likes learning about the new M3/4 but no longer desires one. Thanks for the videos! I love watching you do similar cars because you bring up some of the best talking points.
It's pure marketing at this power and touque level they can offer an Awd, manual competition with plenty of HP and touque to spare its 2021 for Gods sake Cheer's ps if they offer what I juet stated in the upcoming touring I'll order one in the morning seriously
@@MotoManTV the manual in this gen better than last gen manual competition or cs(if those have manuals that is)? Asking about the experience in general not the gearbox.
For the cost of this thing, the M2CS just plainly seems like the better choice all around. This new design is getting way too big as well. Sure, the new engine is a little bit better, but the tuning on the M2CS S55 is outstanding.
Yup, that’s exactly what I went for. It’s not a hard choice between a perfected platform and all new set-ups. BMW iterates on their cars every year without publicizing it. You’ll get the best reliability and performance from a model at the end of its cycle.
I agree with you that BMW likely made a marketing decision to only offer the non-competition with a manual. However, I think you simply prefer the M3's muscular looks overall as do most reviews, so your future comparison should be between the two versions of the M3(Competition vs Standard) and then decide if that slight difference in HP and Torque is really noticeable? I'm guessing you wouldn't really miss it with the Standard M-3.

You preview the best sports cars on your channel; man I miss driving a manual and burn some rubber on Ist gear lol. Whatz up with the Porsche that is always there in the background :))
Sir, you left me confused, for the first time in one of your otherwise very good videos. So please explain to me again why exactly is the Competition better if it gives you the transmission option you consider inferior to the manual? Is it 30 more horsepower or are there other technical differences (you didn't mention) or what? Because if that would be the case, with all due respect, I am willing to hazard a guess that you wouldn't know the difference if not being told. I am earnestly curious to get a clarification, please.
Happy to clarify. The difference is not the technical bits. The difference is how they all come together. The M4 feels like an evolved previous gen M4. The M3 Comp, with the extra HP, and yes, the stiffer seats, changes the personality of the car. If I were to place these cars on a driving dynamics spectrum, with BMW on one end and Porsche at the other, the M3 Comp is closer to the Porsche side, thus changing the personality.
Follow up question... Would you get the base manual M3 with bucket seats or the Competition M3 also with the bucket seats? At that point, the difference is more hp/torque and the automatic. I personally would go for the manual. I can’t imagine one would notice the difference unless taken on the track. It also may be the last opportunity to get a manual in this type of car.
@Eric Burkey The Suspension of the competition models are 10% stiffer than the 'non competition' models. And I believe there are also other details. 90% of M Power cars are competition ones. Actually very very few people choose a non C model, it's more like a marketing strategy to make M power buyers have a better feeling of getting the top model, the same strategy as AMG 63s. And it works.
As im getting older and have pain in my left knee i prefer not to push the clutch and shift thousands times in a trip, so i go with the automatic. If i were 20-35 years old, yes i would go with the manual.

They should have used the DCT because the manual will never shift as quickly and the ZF auto is notoriously slow although smoother.. Huge mistake for sure. Never ever get one with carbon ceramics, or if you buy used, swap to steel. It's just better all around and far cheaper to maintain than the carbon ceramics which are really only good for all out 10/10enths track driving. Also, you'd be insane to pay 100k for this car instead of a corvette that looks better and is faster. "but the seats!" Oh bullshit! Buy the m3 then.

I wholeheartedly agree with George's conclusion on the 2021 M4 manual, i.e., M3 looks better than M4 and there is simply no excuse for BMW not to offer a manual on the Comp trim. The only question for George is that having own both Porsche 911 & M3 manual in the past, I must say that Porsche's manual is more tactile and rewarding to shift. BMW's manual feels notchy and vague. I have heard many M car owners replacing the BMW factory manuals with after-market short throw units.

But yes the DCT should be much more suitable than the ZF auto box which they also put into the 5 series. There will be "M" Motorsport versions of the i4 too, really looking forward to them.
Your shots in the hanger are still washed out and very red. The outside driving shots are perfect and full of light and color. The hanger produces these very washed out, blurred and reddish tones. Probably not something you can fix.

It's kind of a bummer that manuals are becoming a rarity nowadays. Personally, I never understood the appeal of automatic transmission in a sports car.
It's a super saloon not a sports car. Remember not all manual cars are great and there are only a few good manual transmissions such as civic type R or a Porsche GT3 most majority of modern day manual transmissions feel rubbery like you're driving a van or a truck with a crappy clutch feel.

I will take the zf8 over DTC or manual all day
The front end, with the new grille, reminds me of a neighbor I knew growing up----kind of snide, trying to be sophisticated but evil.
So do you save ~$50k buying this M4 manual over a 911 c2s?
What changed everything is the size of this car, long live the M2
DCT for GTS might be better.
I do like the rear end of the m3 better as well
Is that a BMW or an Alfa Romeo??
Bwm still make cheap manual shift knob, damn
Automatic so much better. Manual will soon go the way of the 🦤
1:08 the standard only comes in Manual. And the Competition only comes in Automatic.
I would have sworn I’d heard differently, but just went to build one, and yeah - never got the option to add an auto to the standard M4. Huh.
Xdrive competition with a manual
If only the right hand drives could be manual😢😭
RHD are available with manual but the local market has to choose to import it.
Ok, I've been thinking about this for the past 6 days and so far I'm drawing blank, M, what cars on sale today would you consider have an a$$ hole personality? It seems like washington and brussels got everyone on their best behavior.
🔥🔥🔥
Just get a ZL1 and call it a day.
Exactly!
Πότε θα έρθεις στην Ελλάδα να κάνουμε ένα car review??

Yes, "What if?"
AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! That snout! Oh my God! It just never gets less hideous! 😂😂😂😂
It looks like a person who had their nose burned off and to nose holes left. It needs to be black to attempt to hide the hideous grill. I still would hate it and not buy it.
Manual changed the whole car...😂🤣
As it does on a lot of cars....
This dude shifts so slow
This car is So Ugly, I almost Don't Care that it has a Manual! 🤮😒
New M4 is ugly
It's just so ugly.
🤔might as well get a porsche.
Can't really argue with you.
Tune it. Problem solved.
1 hundred grand
Buck tooth BMW
For what that costs, and how utterly ostentatiously boring it looks, i think the money would be better spent on a Playstation 6 and a used F-Type.
