- Wooden Wagon Jack - this item was donated to me by Mr. Radim Kuběna. Thank you . I see this Wooden Wagon Jack for the first time. I would estimate the age to be 150 years. It is a very beautiful piece, but unfortunately the wooden part is no longer usable, because for the most part it is rotten. That's why I have to replace the wood. I decided to repair this jack and dedicate it to my friend, with whom I have been working in the museum for many years, perhaps I will please him.

One of the aspects of your work that impresses me a lot is your disinclination to refine what should be rude and primitive. This restoration is a good example of this. You didn't smooth out the 'wrinkles' but left them there like something we might see at Upper Canada Village.

Great work Radek! It might not have worked for the wood in this project, but there is a product called wood hardener that can restore strength to old wood. It soaks into the wood and then sets, hardens.

Very good restoration. Fabricating a few new parts show how skilled you are. It is good that the restoration retained the essential character of the jack which has to be a rare piece of equipment. Loved that part, especially the dipping of the overheated finger in the water. 😂
My dad was a cabinet maker, carpenter and joiner his favourite saying was "measure twice, cut once", we all make mistakes dude, even the experts.
Just imagine what the person who made this all that time ago would think, if could see the tools, chemicals and substances you now used to restore it. Beautiful job, fit for another h150 yrars.

That is one great restoration Radek! Labd (youtube) restored a jack similar to this one and the video is still available. You really put a fine effort into replacing the wood and I am quite surprised that the metal parts weren't very badly pitted. Best wishes to all, stay healthy, and a big hug for little Mona!
