George Lucas and Spielberg actually did this quite a bit. They often put little things in their movies as that were in the background from one another's films. There is a scene in Raiders of the Lost ark when Salah and Indy are lifting the ark out from the box that housed it in the well of the souls, where if you look closely at the pole to the left of Indy you'll see an Egyptian hieroglyphic of R2- D2 and C3PO. There are also some film locations that were used for both films. The canyon that they carry the ark through to open it, where Indy appears with the bazooka to blow it up, is the same canyon (and the same spot even in the canyon) where R2-D2 gets zapped by the Jawa's in Star Wars. There is also a scene in one of the prequel star wars (I cant remember which right now) where the Millennium Falcon flies lands on one of the ports. I'm sure you can find these scenes on youtube if you look around.
It's actually really good for Spielberg to put et in Star Wars (only in episode 1) and to put a kid wearing a yoda costume what will cause et to say home. Well done Spielberg!
um, spielberg didn't put ET in star wars; george lucas did to return the favor since spielberg put the kid in the yoda costume in E.T. during the halloween scene. Spielberg has no connection to the Star Wars franchise other than that he's best friends with George Lucas.

In the 2001 Star Wars prequel novel, "Cloak of Deception," E.T.'s home planet is called Brodo Asogi, and it's part of the Outer Rim Territories. This specific name is also mentioned in the 1985 novel sequel "E.T.: The Book of the Green Planet." "Yes, there it was-home, planet of many names, named by many ages-Vomestra, Brodo Asogi, Od-Di-Pa 5, Tum Lux O-ty, Alata Zerka, all of which translated to-the Green Planet. As Earth was called the Blue Planet for its waters, so E.T.'s home was called the Green Planet for its plant life, which flourished here as on no other planet in the world." According to the official novelization of the original movie, E.T. is 10,000,000 years old, a fact repeated in the sequel. It's very possible that if the E.T./Star Wars worlds are loosely the connected, then E.T. might have remembered Yoda from that galaxy far, far away. Spielberg briefly planned a film sequel called "E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears." A nine-page treatment detailed the story about an evil albino race of E.T.s arriving months after the events of the first story, looking for a scientist named Zrek, who was our cuddly E.T. This race befriends, kidnaps, and tortures Elliot, his siblings, and friends to find Zrek. Of course, E.T./Zrek rescues his friends at the end. Spielberg quickly scrapped the idea, but maybe it could've worked with more time and effort?
Lucas and Spielberg are close friends. Spielberg put a Yoda reference in E.T. (Halloween scene) and in return Lucas promised to insert an E.T. cameo into the next Star Wars film which he did in phantom menace.
This explains why ET recognized the kid dressed as Yoda during Halloween and thought of home. And the galaxy that ET came from is about 3 milion lightyears away from our galaxy Milky Way. Wich means that it must be the Andromeda galaxy since it is the closest to us!!! Andromeda is the Star Wars galaxy!!!!!!
What it doesn't explain is how, of all the planets in the universe E.T. could have landed on in 1981, he happened to find the only one planet where a series of movies had just been released (1977 and 1980) which, by pure coincidence, told the exact same story as the real history of E.T.'s galaxy, even down to depicting the individuals' likenesses so accurately that E.T. was able to recognise them from their merchandising. Unless we reckon George Lucas is really that blue character he portrays in the Senate in The Phantom Menace, who fled to Earth some time after the fall of the Republic, disguised himself to look like a human, and made a series of movies telling the story of his galaxy. Of course, that would raise even more questions...
And Elliot plays with Star Wars action figures, and John Williams incorporated part of the Yoda theme into the E.T. soundtrack. The inclusion of E.T.'s race in Star Wars was a "thank you" nod toward Spielberg, who assisted a little with TPM. I think he was involved in some of the promotional work.
ET on earth saw a guy wearing a Yoda Costume, which itself was a reference to the Star Wars movies. Et lives in the Star Wars universe, which also includes the Star Wars movies, on Earth at least.
Chris Bean They actually do (or some creature very similar to them), but only in the comic "X-wing Rogue Squadron: The Phantom Affair". You can see the panel it appears here: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Xenomorph
MarlonMacielBrando Its just a Cameo. Hell in the Star Trek 2009 Movie theres a R2-D2 Cameo. Its nothing more then a nod to each others work. Stephen Spielberg is a HUGE fan of Lucas' Star Wars Franchise and Lucas sees Stephen Spielberg as a friend and is also a fan of his friends work. ET recognizing Yoda was just another nod to Star Wars. Not a sign that they exist in the same Universe. No one would of noticed the ETs in Phantom Menace unless they were looking for it or got lucky to happen upon it. Had GL and SS intended the two to legit exist in the same Universe. Theyd have done a better job of solidifying that.
This was based on a mutual agreement between Spieilberg and Lucas... Lucas promised Spielberg that E.T.'s species would have a cameo in the next SW movie because Spielberg's "E.T." had featured a kid dressed in a Yoda costume in the Halloween sequence of that movie (E.T. had said "Home...Home" when he saw the Yoda kid)... In the Star Wars storyline, E.T.'s species is seen in the Republic Senate sequence of the movie "The Phantom Mrnace", consisting of "Senator Gerbleips" ("Gerbleips" is "Spielberg" spelled backwards), and his two aides... In the extended SW storyline, the Senator supposedly funded an extra-galactic expedition...This could've been the ship that visited Earth in E.T., as E.T 's species lived in a dense jungle planet, and had a telepathic link with plant life from not only their home world, but those of other planets as well, and would have probably ventured to other worlds at different times to explore and collect certain plants indigenous to those systems...

In early drafts, Star Wars was set in the 33rd century in our galaxy. The finished films, however, take place “a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.” But although the Star Wars galaxy is not the Milky Way, it’s possible that the two galaxies exist in the same universe. The answer lies in a bargain between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg: a cameo by E.T. aliens in The Phantom Menace.
This explains why E.T. Was so fascinated with the the kid dressed as yoda in the Halloween scene!
