Rune Haako is one of my favorite side characters. You can tell he's probably been in the business longer than Viceroy Gunray, judging by his better understanding of the threat of the Jedi. "Have you ever encountered a Jedi Knight before, sir?" "That won't be enough, sir..." "We will not survive this..." "You didn't tell him about the missing Jedi?"
Some of the books go into this, he's basically Gunray's legal advisor and does indeed try to get him out of deep shit. Probably the most lucid of the Separatist dudes.

You know, for all the complaints about the Prequels and the overuse of CGI and all that. Can we just take a moment and admire the prosthetics and puppetry of the Trade Federation guys?
You can think RLM for spurring many complaints against the prequels, particularly about the CGI, while they sucked off Jar Jar Abrams's Star Trek '09 CGI wank-a-thon.
The pilot of the ship at the beginning was played by Silas Carson, who also played Nute Gunray. He also played Ki-Adi Mundi in all three films and all three of his characters were killed. Carson wasn't the only actor who played multiple characters in Star Wars franchise, but he is officially the only actor whose all characters were killed.

Otherwise, Matt Lanter who voiced Anakin in CW and played a security guard killed in Mandalorian would count, though he did voice some minor roles. Mark Hamill voiced Darth Bane in CW as well and he died in the past, though Mark has also voiced some minor roles.

Well In fact, they did contained for not very long. And they did run away from the Droideka's so in fact they weren't a match for them. And the explosion didn't get through their shield. But the ship exploded INSIDE their shield. So they were technically correct 🤔

I get that some people were complaining how Ep1 apparently racist with Jar Jar and the Trade Federation; but Lucas wasn't at all trying to be racist. He was using other cultures and races, which happens all the time in sci-fi. Star Trek did it. Vulcans: Chinese Romulans: Koren or Japanese Klingons: Russians.

All this makes perfect sense. They are coming true, which in itself is impossible, but even if they do manage to get through, they will be gunned down by the Droidekas, which will result in what? In victory, that's right!

If the Trade Federation is anything like our real world multinational conglomerates then it will probably have a large legal department dedicated to finding loopholes that assure any action, dodgy or otherwise is legal, otherwise leave them open to considerable fines. Ultimately the Supreme Court doesn't seem to find the Trade Federation guilty of anything.

Man, Episode I is such an underrated movie. It has such a unique atmosphere among all the Star Wars movies and the art design is stunning. On top of that, the world building is excellent. It makes the Star Wars universe feel so much bigger and complex. It still feels like Star Wars, but also very different, but not because George Lucas didn't capture the universe but because he portrayed the more civilized age Obi-Wan talked about in ANH. There are many Star Wars fans who want Star Wars to always be gritty and dirty like Mos Eisley or the Millennium Falcon, but I love the fact that the prequels showed us beautiful and elegant places and not just uncivilized backwater planets.
World-building and the overall plot are indeed the best things about the prequels. I cannot think of a single original good thing about the sequels (or about The Mandalorian, for that matter).

Sadly in many Asian entertainment industries, dark-skinned races seldom get much representation except to serve as side kick, slap stick or villains or any other roles that reinforce stereotypes of their supposed inferiority and subservience. The sad part is that Singapore used to be part of numerous Malay kingdoms, empires and sultanates. I don't even know where are the Malays in a movie that was for the most part in Singapore. A typical example of a casting call or audition for acting, modelling etc jobs: Chinese or Pan-Asian (interpreted as either half Caucasian or half-(insert any fair skin Asian race)). Luckily they don't usually put 'Mandarin-speakers only' unlike for other industries. For those other industries, even when you can speak Mandarin, they may still will not hire you bcos 'Mandarin-speakers only' is a euphemism to hide their subtle low-key racism.
@@Khatulistiwan I was making a joke actually (because the aliens are obviously not malaysians/singaporeans) but I see where you're coming from, and there definitely isn't 100% equality in these industries yet. I'm an american of malaysian chinese ethnicity, and though I found Crazy Rich Asians an interesting watch, I can also recognize the film's shortcomings. like, if it was really singapore, where were all the malay and indians? the fact that they cast a lot of actors who, while talented, didn't have an actual malaysian/singaporean background is a bit disappointing as well (but I suppose that's on the movie studio trying to cast bankable names). The funny thing is, the director apparently rejected a notable actor who, while looking chinese, wasn't "ideal" enough (the actor was hmong/thai). not sure how the creative team went about casting. Hope these industries can get to the point where all actors, regardless of how they look, can star together on equal co-footing in major films!

@trueblueprussian 23 Plus when speaking a language that isn't your mother tongue it's gonna sound janky like putting the wrong emphasis on certain phrases or letters and English as a matter of fact is a notoriously difficult language for those who did not grow up learning it. Why do you think they hire teachers to specifically teach english?
I'm actually really glad I got to grow up with these movies, because they introduced/developed a lot of good lore (and some lore we don't talk about), lead to the development of some awesome cartoons, and some awesome fight scenes and characters. I get to re-watch them with nostalgia/rose-tinted glasses especially when I compare it to the sequels. So to me they're super awesome.
I really enjoyed the trade federation as villains. Sure, they're dumb and cowards but they written that way. Unlike the FO in the sequels who are supposed to be imposing but come off incompetent due to poor writing. The fact that something like the clownish trade federation post a threat to the galaxy shows the galaxy is in much different state than it was in the OT. While in the OT it was galactic totalitarian government, in episode 1 it is just a mere corporation threatening a single planet. In episode 1, they even care about it if it is legal or not. By the time of OT, all of the pretenses of legality matters very little or not.
@@HolyknightVader999 You’re comparing Robot armies with centralized control stations with some decently trained children with a lot of frustration. If it came down to it, the FO would win for so long as their leaders aren’t the foolish bunch they are. The Trade Fed in Ep1 is puppeteered by Sidious, a guy who actually only wants to pose a decoy threat not an actual one. Swiped in a week if needed but considerable enough to pose a diplomatic discussion of an centralized army. After the army is in place, the “threat” is to be dissolved. So in hindsight, were the Trade Feds actually a bit rougher on their obvious scare of “keeping within the margin of legal” they’d have had a shot, a decent one. Now obviously not with the current droid army but with a more refined one it’s surely possible
Awesome memories of this film. Saw it 11 times in the theater(including opening night) in 1999. The hype was so huge back then because it was the first SW film since 1983. Just a fantastic film.
I love the Star Wars dialogue! Lucas did a fantastic job of creating this wonderfully old-fashioned and regal way of talking, and it fits that ancient galaxy just perfectly!
Not really, both sides were controlled by Palpatine, so it's really a question of which side was less evil. The droids indiscriminately killed civilians while the clones and Jedi did their best to save them and preserve peace in the galaxy. So I would say, out of the two, the Republic were the "good guys"
@@quasar2115 the Republic was corrupt as all h*ll and had a Senate that rarely ever did it's job properly if at all. High taxes but with next to no benefits for the cost. It also used a giant slave army (that's what the clones were, let's be honest) while the CIS used machines to minimize casualties for their population and military. CIS did employ more indiscriminate and scorched earth tactics, per Grievous Doctrine, but this can be argued to have been necessary given that, especially in its early stages, the CIS was in no position to compete fairly with the Republic economy or it's Jedi generals, and it needed to use less conventional and more devastating tactics to close the gap. Ultimately the entire CIS came together because they were sick of getting screwed over by a corrupt government that was all cost no benefit. Systems joined for autonomy and better representation and protection, Politicians joined it's parliament to escape the corruption of the Republic Senate, the MegaCoroporations joined because they were sick of getting taxed up the yin yang for trying to trade in the developing outer rim on routes previously free for use, Grievous joined because the Jedi and the Republic had helped an invasive species of slavers slaughter many of his people in a war of aggression (once again the result of a backwards Senate) and he was out for revenge, and Dooku (and several of his acolytes) joined because the Jedi Order had been co-opted by the corrupt Republic Government into acting as some kind of galactic police entity to enforce laws and politics often inconsistent with its values, and the Jedi Council was complacent to that. I definitely don't think the Clones were evil, and neither were most Jedi, but if I were to assess which of the two governments leading the armies makes more sense to me, and seems most likely to actually function properly and meet the challenges of sovereignty, I would choose the CIS in a heartbeat. Much less hypocrisy and far more results. Had the CIS actually won the war (say Dooku discovers Palpatine's been lying to him and actually goes for the win), the galaxy probably would've turned out far better.
Some of the Separatists were good people wanting Independence and self governance, but some were also ruthless war profiteers that saw economic opportunity in the war. But the Republic is corrupt and shitty down to the core, so I guess the Separatists still come out on top.
@@SkiddyGaming Good argument. If the CIS wasn't just one of Palpatine's puppet governments they would have been a much better government for the galaxy. But who's to say that once the CIS controls the entire galaxy they wouldn't just introduce the same tax rates and slowness of the Republic Senate? It takes a lot of money and time to control an entire galaxy. Also, Gunray had no intention of helping Rodia once he had control of it. I think that despite the Republic being exceptionally shitty, some of the things they did were necessary.
SkiddyGaming forgive me if I don’t find a future where Nute Gunray, a greedy asshole who’d let millions starve if it meant getting a profit out of it, Count Dooku, a man who’s morality had been corrupted and twisted by the dark side, and General Fucking Grievous are the ones who are in charge. Yeah the Republic is corrupt but it was full of good people like Padme and her allies who wanted what was best for the Galaxy. The CIS had little to no people like that, just unscrupulous opportunists and bloodthirsty maniacs

This isn’t completely true. Silas also played Lott Dod in Episode I, who doesn’t die on-screen. Therefore, not every one of his characters dies.

It still feels like Star Wars, but also very different, but not because George Lucas didn't capture the universe but because he portrayed the more civilized age Obi-Wan talked about in ANH. There are many Star Wars fans who want Star Wars to always be gritty and dirty like Mos Eisley or the Millennium Falcon, but I love the fact that the prequels showed us beautiful and elegant places and not just uncivilized backwater planets.

Sadly in many Asian entertainment industries, dark-skinned races seldom get much representation except to serve as side kick, slap stick or villains or any other roles that reinforce stereotypes of their supposed inferiority and subservience. The sad part is that Singapore used to be part of numerous Malay kingdoms, empires and sultanates. I don't even know where are the Malays in a movie that was for the most part in Singapore. A typical example of a casting call or audition for acting, modelling etc jobs: Chinese or Pan-Asian (interpreted as either half Caucasian or half-(insert any fair skin Asian race)). Luckily they don't usually put 'Mandarin-speakers only' unlike for other industries. For those other industries, even when you can speak Mandarin, they may still will not hire you bcos 'Mandarin-speakers only' is a euphemism to hide their subtle low-key racism.

I'm an american of malaysian chinese ethnicity, and though I found Crazy Rich Asians an interesting watch, I can also recognize the film's shortcomings. like, if it was really singapore, where were all the malay and indians? the fact that they cast a lot of actors who, while talented, didn't have an actual malaysian/singaporean background is a bit disappointing as well (but I suppose that's on the movie studio trying to cast bankable names). The funny thing is, the director apparently rejected a notable actor who, while looking chinese, wasn't "ideal" enough (the actor was hmong/thai). not sure how the creative team went about casting.
Hope these industries can get to the point where all actors, regardless of how they look, can star together on equal co-footing in major films!

I'm actually really glad I got to grow up with these movies, because they introduced/developed a lot of good lore (and some lore we don't talk about), lead to the development of some awesome cartoons, and some awesome fight scenes and characters. I get to re-watch them with nostalgia/rose-tinted glasses especially when I compare it to the sequels. So to me they're super awesome.

I really enjoyed the trade federation as villains. Sure, they're dumb and cowards but they written that way. Unlike the FO in the sequels who are supposed to be imposing but come off incompetent due to poor writing. The fact that something like the clownish trade federation post a threat to the galaxy shows the galaxy is in much different state than it was in the OT. While in the OT it was galactic totalitarian government, in episode 1 it is just a mere corporation threatening a single planet. In episode 1, they even care about it if it is legal or not. By the time of OT, all of the pretenses of legality matters very little or not.
The Trade Federation would eat the First Order for lunch. Those droid armies would far outnumber the kidnapped kids in the First Order army.

If it came down to it, the FO would win for so long as their leaders aren’t the foolish bunch they are. The Trade Fed in Ep1 is puppeteered by Sidious, a guy who actually only wants to pose a decoy threat not an actual one. Swiped in a week if needed but considerable enough to pose a diplomatic discussion of an centralized army. After the army is in place, the “threat” is to be dissolved. So in hindsight, were the Trade Feds actually a bit rougher on their obvious scare of “keeping within the margin of legal” they’d have had a shot, a decent one. Now obviously not with the current droid army but with a more refined one it’s surely possible

Awesome memories of this film. Saw it 11 times in the theater(including opening night) in 1999. The hype was so huge back then because it was the first SW film since 1983. Just a fantastic film.

Watching from just this point of view makes the jedi sound like some sort of unstoppable horror they are trying to run from.
I love the Star Wars dialogue! Lucas did a fantastic job of creating this wonderfully old-fashioned and regal way of talking, and it fits that ancient galaxy just perfectly!

Not really, both sides were controlled by Palpatine, so it's really a question of which side was less evil. The droids indiscriminately killed civilians while the clones and Jedi did their best to save them and preserve peace in the galaxy. So I would say, out of the two, the Republic were the "good guys"
@@quasar2115 the Republic was corrupt as all h*ll and had a Senate that rarely ever did it's job properly if at all. High taxes but with next to no benefits for the cost. It also used a giant slave army (that's what the clones were, let's be honest) while the CIS used machines to minimize casualties for their population and military. CIS did employ more indiscriminate and scorched earth tactics, per Grievous Doctrine, but this can be argued to have been necessary given that, especially in its early stages, the CIS was in no position to compete fairly with the Republic economy or it's Jedi generals, and it needed to use less conventional and more devastating tactics to close the gap. Ultimately the entire CIS came together because they were sick of getting screwed over by a corrupt government that was all cost no benefit. Systems joined for autonomy and better representation and protection, Politicians joined it's parliament to escape the corruption of the Republic Senate, the MegaCoroporations joined because they were sick of getting taxed up the yin yang for trying to trade in the developing outer rim on routes previously free for use, Grievous joined because the Jedi and the Republic had helped an invasive species of slavers slaughter many of his people in a war of aggression (once again the result of a backwards Senate) and he was out for revenge, and Dooku (and several of his acolytes) joined because the Jedi Order had been co-opted by the corrupt Republic Government into acting as some kind of galactic police entity to enforce laws and politics often inconsistent with its values, and the Jedi Council was complacent to that.
I definitely don't think the Clones were evil, and neither were most Jedi, but if I were to assess which of the two governments leading the armies makes more sense to me, and seems most likely to actually function properly and meet the challenges of sovereignty, I would choose the CIS in a heartbeat. Much less hypocrisy and far more results. Had the CIS actually won the war (say Dooku discovers Palpatine's been lying to him and actually goes for the win), the galaxy probably would've turned out far better.
Some of the Separatists were good people wanting Independence and self governance, but some were also ruthless war profiteers that saw economic opportunity in the war. But the Republic is corrupt and shitty down to the core, so I guess the Separatists still come out on top.
@@SkiddyGaming Good argument. If the CIS wasn't just one of Palpatine's puppet governments they would have been a much better government for the galaxy. But who's to say that once the CIS controls the entire galaxy they wouldn't just introduce the same tax rates and slowness of the Republic Senate? It takes a lot of money and time to control an entire galaxy. Also, Gunray had no intention of helping Rodia once he had control of it. I think that despite the Republic being exceptionally shitty, some of the things they did were necessary.

Yeah the Republic is corrupt but it was full of good people like Padme and her allies who wanted what was best for the Galaxy. The CIS had little to no people like that, just unscrupulous opportunists and bloodthirsty maniacs
