that sword boomerang vs thunderclap play..."geez i wonder if 44 dmg or 12 dmg + a 1 turn debuff where the enemy isnt attacking is better"...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The best thing is how he always so sophistically and strategically thinks out loudly about what grand master plan he is going to do next. "Hm yeah yes I do this and then this and yes that would be perfect, oh yeah." And then he proceeds to use a strike on an enemy and pass his turn instead of using the rampage.
Yeah it always tells you the damage by hovering over the enemy, but vulnerable actually affects that and weakened does not. Also I actually can't belief that someone messes this two words up after beeing this long into the game.
43:56 Would I rather do 44 damage or 12 damage and apply 2, 1 turn debuffs that won't affect him when he actually attacks? NL's Answer may surprise you.
Vanitas Vanitatum Et Omnia Vanitas the effects disappear at the end of the turn which was literally when he hits the button thats says end turn and the effects literally said they disappeared emmediatley after he hit that button.
Northern, my dog, my dude. If you have a rampage it will ALWAYS out value a strike. Not only that but it gets stronger the more you use it. Keep up with the great content though. Honestly one of my new favorite series
I just want to say that I genuinely enjoy this series. Everyone else is talking about misplays, and I'm over here eating it up. Please make this your next long running series, I absolutely love it.
hey NL, just want to say that i'm loving this series. you might be discouraged from playing by seeing all of the comments agonizing over your misplays, but i hope you realize that we all still want to see more of this series regardless of your mistakes. keep doing what you're doing!
9:52 NL wastes an energy 21:10 NL wastes a good turn 22:34 NL Bashes instead of uppercutting 27:30 NL doesnt take body slam when he has a barricade deck 35:00 NL misses lethal 44:04 NL uses a interesting thunderclap 44:40 NL instead of striking twice, bashes then strikes..... (seriously???) 46:24 NL MISSES LETHAL ON A BOSS 46:40 NL somehow still wins due to the gods of rng Feel free to add on
Keemsama Bin Star I saw he kept using strikes instead of rampage that would get stronger each time played and I think the rampages did more damage. Then most times making his cards cost 1 then drawing 3 cards a couple of times.
10:20 and then right after he hits the healer for 0 And then he shrugs it off for no card draw. My god the misplays. AND THEN MISSES LETHAL THE TURN AFTER THAT. I am going insane
Love how you have a card that gets better each time you use it, and yet you always use a card that is objectively worse everytime you have the choice. Never change NL.
after the thunderclap vs the sword boomerang something just struck me and i ended the video...44 damage vs 12 and no vulnerable effects being used.... srsly egg AND WHY STRIKE WHILE YOU CAN UPGRADE RAMPAGE
Then again, I have a theory that he made a deal with the developers. He will play as frustrating as he can in order to force people to buy the game. And it works. Everyone gains from it.
+Protton NL does that with every game ever, plays bad enough to make me wanna buy it instead. Anyways, I don't know, I wouldn't call it too easy, kinda like isaac- sometimes a run is good enough for the worst player to win, sometimes only a good player can win. Certainly NL isn't winning every run he does in Spire.
Last night I kept waking up with this weird anxiety and I realized it was because I had watched this episode before bed and I kept having these pseudo dreams that I was in this game
I dream that eggboi would figure out that when you target an enemy with an attack, it will tell how much damage you would do to that enemy on the card. It really helps when you cant do basic math like NL
Interestingly enough, you had the super combo for infinite max HP. you could have won the run right at the last boss. Dual wield+feed+a boss which summons enemies+barricade+shrug it offs for days=infinite max hp.(not really because eventually the boss would get really high strength, but you could have gotten hundreds of max hp) it is very boring, but it is an option.
Hey Northernlion, im not sure you've realized yet but when you are dragging and pointing a card at a specific enemy, the card will show the adjusted damage it will do after taking vulnerability and such into account.
If he does we'll surely know. Wear something with small text on it, I want to see if he films close enough so we can read it. I feel bad for joking about this, but damn, Logan's really dumb.
While listening to this, I heard the "Did reaper give us back an energy?" and went "Wait WHAT?!". Came back to see what was up and it turns out Egg doesn't even know his own relics.
Anyone else watch Austin play this today and win on both characters his first try playing? That was so nice. Everyone should just watch Austin play, lol.
I wonder - is this series supposed to be used for a drinking game? Something like when you spot a misplay, every opponent takes a shot, whoever makes it through the first two videos alive is the winner?
At the end if this video I kept thinking "you don't deserve this win"... I feel like I just gulped down a gallon of seawater. Yet I keep comming back to this series. Awesome work, my dude, I suppose.
Hey NL, at 10:20 you wasted 12 damage on the priest because he had 15 block until the end of turn. It would make more sense to hit the Knight, who had no block and would suffer damage.
Dual Wield makes an exact copy of the card it copies. If you use it on a card that was created with Infernal Blade they will both cost 0. You did it earlier in the video but second guessed yourself during the boss.
If it is helpful to you, you can view the modified damage by hovering the target arrow for an attack over an enemy. It’ll tell you how much vulnerable enemies will take and such.
Just so you know, to help calculate your damage on an enemy with a debuff, say vulnerable, click on the card and hover on the enemy the text in the card shows the ACTUAL damage it's going to make (instead on you roughly calculating it).
Barricade is probably the strongest strategy for Ironclad to date. It's physically painful to watch this guy passing up Body Slams, Iron Waves, and Shrug it Off for trash.
Heyo NL you can skip all the math by hovering your attack over the enemy, the amount of damage of the attack will change depending on the enemy's vulnerability. For example you being weakened for 25% would cause a strike to seem like it would only do 4 damage. But when you hover over a vulnerable enemy, you can see that it still does 6 damage. GL Boi
Most comment mention the misplays, but here are 2 that could help in future episodes. Make sure to use all energy before ending turn, if the enemy has block up hit the other one that doesn't have block, dumping attack into block is a waste of an attack.
I agree, the bell at first sight could seems like a bad item, but with so many way you can remove cards it's basically 3 free relic and also there are some cards that synergize with curses
Yo, that boss fight tho. NL, if you have a stroke and a rampage, always use rampage. Also, if you can kill a guy with 2 strikes, don't use a bash and a strike. I think this guy is cracked.
Great episode NL. Hope you enjoy the update. I've still got no wins myself, but all current unlocks done so now I can just enjoy your episodes more while waiting for the patches.
Please NL take the time to read and plan your turns, since you have no turn timer. Also, you know exactly how much damage you Will deal when you hover the enemy with an attack, the text changes
NL you should know that if an enemy is vulnerable and you target an attack at them but don’t cast it the damage number that’s on the card shows the total amount of damage it’ll do (including the added vulnerable damage). It’ll save you a little bit of math.
Omg NL for the 100th time, just click on the card and put the arrow on the enemy, then look at the card and you'll see EXACTLY how much damage it will do. It calculates everything (Your strength, the enemies debuffs etc) once you clicked it and pointed at the enemy you want to attack. Instead of guessing and taking 3 hours to calculate and attack.. and then anyways calculate wrong at the end every time lol.
It hurts how NL ignores Barricade. And yes, I'm watching this series from the beginning in 2020. Actually it is very relatable because I'm just learning how to play Slay the Spire.
I have to ask. I don’t check the comments often, but has anyone told northernlion that he doesn’t have to “do the math” with weakness and vulnerability? That simply “aiming” the card changes the damage numbers to reflect your ACTUAL damage including weakness and the like.
yikes please think a little bit longer about what you're doing bro. Like you used a Strike instead of a Rampage like 3 times.. Probably because you haven't read Rampage gets stronger every time you play it :D
4:21 interesting shop. Not sure what I'd have done there. Removal, Flex and Inflame certainly, but there's something to be said for the enlightenment play as well. Incidentally, he didn't botch, so that's promising. = )
When you have the card selected and you hover over your target, it shows you how much the attack is going to do AFTER buffs and de-buffs. You don't even have to do the math you're screwing up.
NL if a enemy has a DMG increase Debuff if you select the card and hover over a enemy it will the the calculation automaticly just look at the DMG number .
*My ExPeCtAtIoNs HaVe BeEn* fufilled once again. As a drinking game, I took a shot of Bud Light each time there was a misplay. My liver has since filed for divorce and now works as a smooth-talking, pistol-whipping Vaquero fighting for justice in a land of darkness and despair.
I was thinking "Not many misplays, this deck is just garbage" then he Thunderstrikes for 1 weak because he thinks its going to last longer than the summon. Also lol at "Body Slam isn't really for this deck" in a deck where you drafted nothing but Shrug It Off. Also paying for Enlightenment when he has literally one 2 cost card in the deck. At least that probably helped him make the right decisions on Heavy Blades and Uppercut. This deck probably kills The Awakened One, but is going to get hilariously stomped by Donu and Deca.
So we have the iron clad who is supposed to be a more reckless character given the hp regen with very high damage output cards and synergies We have the silent who is all about debuffs, defense, and poison damage Id like the 3rd character to be based on sustain like healing group debuffs
I legit stay up to watch these just before bed and proceed to sweat profusely and wake up screaming at night screaming about the misplays
Why must he do this to us?
tbh he's was misplaying mostly on the boss, i believe it was because nervousness and with time he will get used to them and start to play better
But damn were those some misplays. Holy cow.
I'm not as good as him but I still know that in the last episode's boss you should deal at least 30 damage to it to stop it from doing damage
that sword boomerang vs thunderclap play..."geez i wonder if 44 dmg or 12 dmg + a 1 turn debuff where the enemy isnt attacking is better"...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I feel like I'm generally pretty chiled watching these. That made me scream.
Ryan if you hover a card over a weakened opponent it will tell you the damage you do so you don't have to try and do the math.
I tweeted him, although that's no guarantee of anything.
*vulnerable
Yeah, please correct that. Eggman saying it wrong is worse enough..
I mean... it still tells you the damage even if they're Weakened and not Vulnerable.
Yeah it always tells you the damage by hovering over the enemy, but vulnerable actually affects that and weakened does not. Also I actually can't belief that someone messes this two words up after beeing this long into the game.
Nice! New episode of Misplay the Spire
I don't agree but the pun is nice.
43:56 Would I rather do 44 damage or 12 damage and apply 2, 1 turn debuffs that won't affect him when he actually attacks? NL's Answer may surprise you.
I'm not addicted to this content, I promise.
There's something mesmerizing about trainwrecks, no?
I can quit ANYTIME!
44:04 WHY USE THUNDERCLAP MY DUDE. Deal 44 damage or 12 damage and apply 2 conditions that disappear right after.
but... his next atack will be weaker XD
"Smart play"
If you keep saying it enough times, it must be true.
One turn after he uses bash+strike instead of strike+strike+card
Vanitas Vanitatum Et Omnia Vanitas the effects disappear at the end of the turn which was literally when he hits the button thats says end turn and the effects literally said they disappeared emmediatley after he hit that button.
I figuratively almost swallowed my phone when I saw him thunderclap instead of heavy blow, then do the bash+strike instead of strike+strike+defend.
Northern, my dog, my dude. If you have a rampage it will ALWAYS out value a strike. Not only that but it gets stronger the more you use it. Keep up with the great content though. Honestly one of my new favorite series
Episode 12 and he still doesn't know that you can see how much damage a card will deal if you select it and hover over the mob..
I just want to say that I genuinely enjoy this series. Everyone else is talking about misplays, and I'm over here eating it up. Please make this your next long running series, I absolutely love it.
I have to support this proposal based on the fact that there is so much room for improvement.
I'm just waiting for the day he actually becomes good at the game and knows all the cards and synergies.
I think once he gits gud he’ll put the series on hiatus until they add more content like Dead Cells
Dead Cells is pretty good now.
I do get mildly annoyed by all the comments repeating the same thing a million times, but in the end we all enjoy the series in our own way
Every time he plays strike instead of rampage I die a little inside.
hey NL, just want to say that i'm loving this series. you might be discouraged from playing by seeing all of the comments agonizing over your misplays, but i hope you realize that we all still want to see more of this series regardless of your mistakes. keep doing what you're doing!
you have to be the most tolerant person in the world
He's used to it, he still gets them on Isaac and got loads throughout KSP.
9:52 NL wastes an energy
21:10 NL wastes a good turn
22:34 NL Bashes instead of uppercutting
27:30 NL doesnt take body slam when he has a barricade deck
35:00 NL misses lethal
44:04 NL uses a interesting thunderclap
44:40 NL instead of striking twice, bashes then strikes..... (seriously???)
46:24 NL MISSES LETHAL ON A BOSS
46:40 NL somehow still wins due to the gods of rng
Feel free to add on
Keemsama Bin Star I saw he kept using strikes instead of rampage that would get stronger each time played and I think the rampages did more damage. Then most times making his cards cost 1 then drawing 3 cards a couple of times.
Also playing Armaments+ before Battle Trance
37:30 for a specific example where he used 2 strikes instead of strike + rampage to do the same thing.
46:45 Takes Double Tap over Demon Form in a deck that can play it for 1 and has 2 cards that can nearly OHK a boss after a very short time with it.
36:51 He uses aoe before spot weakness
9:45 Why are you not using your energy, oh my god, you blind egg.
That misplay actually painful
10:20 and then right after he hits the healer for 0
And then he shrugs it off for no card draw. My god the misplays.
AND THEN MISSES LETHAL THE TURN AFTER THAT. I am going insane
lionBlind
Someone needs to clip that whole fight and send it to Sleepcycles because today he was defending NL for playing badly cause he’s new to the game
Missed a tinted card
this is the best comment this channel has ever received
what's a tinted card?
A meme. Old egg binding of Isaac memes
i dont get why nl ignores multi strike abilities all the time, they synergize so well with str buff builds.
nicolai rasmussen because hes an egg. Eggs cant think that hard
Because he passed on the opportunity to grab a second shot weakness because it's a "slow play"
@palejr1254 2 spot weaknesses is overkill though.
Love how you have a card that gets better each time you use it, and yet you always use a card that is objectively worse everytime you have the choice. Never change NL.
Holy shit can someone please edit together a misplay compilation? This is actually so bad and I love it
NL already did. There's 12 episodes and a LLA of them.
IamI3rian LOL
Not everyone has time to watch 10 hour long videos here sadly
13:49 “I think we’re probably beyond stop weakness mattering.”
MY DOOD. IF YOU USED IT YOU WOULD’VE KILLED HIM WITHOUT LOSING HP
after the thunderclap vs the sword boomerang something just struck me and i ended the video...44 damage vs 12 and no vulnerable effects being used.... srsly egg
AND WHY STRIKE WHILE YOU CAN UPGRADE RAMPAGE
Because Egg. I hate how he wins... this game is too easy. So many obvious missplays and he still manages to win.
Certainly NL isn't winning every run he does in Spire.
maikel breederland thank you for writing exactly that, i needed that
Good thing you stopped there. He missed obvious lethal a few turns later lol
I’m not watching the video. I refuse to subject myself to that torture. I’m just gonna look in the comments for the misplays
Update, I straight up just read every comment and man did he mess up a lot
@@noahbobrow 😭
Me and my friends take a shot if there's a misplay.. You almost killed Nick.
Last night I kept waking up with this weird anxiety and I realized it was because I had watched this episode before bed and I kept having these pseudo dreams that I was in this game
47 minute of gold misplay!
GOLD!
I dream that eggboi would figure out that when you target an enemy with an attack, it will tell how much damage you would do to that enemy on the card. It really helps when you cant do basic math like NL
The boomerang/thunderclap play was so bad, but he also used normal Strikes instead of Rampage SO MANY TIMES. WHY.
Bob Billy but feed exhausts though
That's why dual-wield comes into play. Double/Triple the card then you'll have more on the back-burner.
*Spoiler alert*
He can't keep getting away with this
The only smart thing this man does is he sometimes avoids elites.
Rampage > Strike
I actually can't believe the quantity of miscalculations. It's nuts! Keep up the entertaining work egg daddy
NL's Slay The Logic continues...
I actually screamed when he played armaments+ before battle trance
Fish Monster Girl same...
Hey Northernlion, im not sure you've realized yet but when you are dragging and pointing a card at a specific enemy, the card will show the adjusted damage it will do after taking vulnerability and such into account.
It's like you picked thunderclap because it had a cool name.
This is the first time a RUclips comment has made me actually laugh
Noah Bobrow :)
Heyyy everybody, welcome back to northernlion misplays the spire.
NL is the type of guy you hope to come across during an mtg draft
"Drafts 5 color bombs with no synergy"
No, because he has the luck of the Egg. He'll beat you with his jank deck that shouldn't work and you'll be a laughingstock.
If he misplays once let's just say I hope Logan doesn't find me
If he does we'll surely know. Wear something with small text on it, I want to see if he films close enough so we can read it.
I feel bad for joking about this, but damn, Logan's really dumb.
YourBoiy _. Not gunna lie I’m laughing but that’s probably too soon for most people
Raw Karambwan Dumb is a word that you could use to describe him, sure.
misplay happens at 0:00 - 46:35 . love you NL Lol
The most frustrating series of all time and I love it!
I've gotten 32 hours in this game since Tuesday thanks to NL bringing it to my attention. It's also really fucking depressing how bad he is :(
"Very big misplay on my part." That'd be a good subtitle for this series.
Lmfao
While listening to this, I heard the "Did reaper give us back an energy?" and went "Wait WHAT?!". Came back to see what was up and it turns out Egg doesn't even know his own relics.
Anyone else watch Austin play this today and win on both characters his first try playing? That was so nice. Everyone should just watch Austin play, lol.
I'm gonna check that out. Might help keep me sane. = )
I wonder - is this series supposed to be used for a drinking game? Something like when you spot a misplay, every opponent takes a shot, whoever makes it through the first two videos alive is the winner?
Use a fire potion before seeing if you could kill next turn?
Hurts me on a spiritual level
At the end if this video I kept thinking "you don't deserve this win"... I feel like I just gulped down a gallon of seawater.
Yet I keep comming back to this series. Awesome work, my dude, I suppose.
I have to admit I am addicted to these videos.
37:41 Enemies attacking for 28 damage, NL blocking for 8 "and we're still going to take 18 damage" Again Ryan... Math much?
Hey NL, at 10:20 you wasted 12 damage on the priest because he had 15 block until the end of turn.
It would make more sense to hit the Knight, who had no block and would suffer damage.
I'm just freaking ASTOUNDED about him using strikes instead of rampage
Dual Wield makes an exact copy of the card it copies. If you use it on a card that was created with Infernal Blade they will both cost 0. You did it earlier in the video but second guessed yourself during the boss.
NL, the dazed exhaust at the end of the turn. So at 21:50, a 4 card draw only adds one dazed and will exhaust all dazed you draw.
I love when he damages an enemy with block when he doesn't actually break it and they don't have barricade. What an egg
He misplay the last 6 turns of the boss, every single turn.
NL, generally you want to kill the centurion first, because he is the one dealing all the damage. The healer is no problem afterwards
Barricade is probably the strongest strategy for Ironclad to date. It's physically painful to watch this guy passing up Body Slams, Iron Waves, and Shrug it Off for trash.
46:20 Instead of finishing the boss with the heavy strike off he goes for the minion, goddamn it Egg
GL Boi
He doesn't realize Daze is ethereal.
I just... I don't even understand how he misunderstands this.
dude in the boss battle, the game actually gave him spot weakness 4 times in a row with no enemies attacking. My god would i be floored.
Most comment mention the misplays, but here are 2 that could help in future episodes. Make sure to use all energy before ending turn, if the enemy has block up hit the other one that doesn't have block, dumping attack into block is a waste of an attack.
"I can use 2 strikes but that doesn't leave me with enough energy" Proceeds to Bash then rampage. That's 3 energy and 2 strikes are 2 energy.
When one guy is blocking more than the damage you can do and the other isn't blocking, why hit the blocking guy?
Because Egg.
I finally caved in and bought the game today. Thanks a lot NL, I'm enjoying this too much!
Double tap was the objective worst choice in a deck with enlightenment, Bludgeon or Demon form for 1 energy is just soooo good.
from all the misplays in this video your decision on the final chest was by far the least misplayed thing
I agree, the bell at first sight could seems like a bad item, but with so many way you can remove cards it's basically 3 free relic and also there are some cards that synergize with curses
salas misto quick question, as he can remove cards at campfires can he remove it there?
Ultimate Brothers yeah
yes, he can remove curses at campfires, but usually unless they are really bad curses it's not the best thing to do
Yo, that boss fight tho.
NL, if you have a stroke and a rampage, always use rampage.
Also, if you can kill a guy with 2 strikes, don't use a bash and a strike.
I think this guy is cracked.
AUSTIN: TOTAL VICTORIES: 3 TOTAL DEATHS: 0
NL: TOTAL VICTORIES: -1 TOTAL DEATHS: ∞
“Let’s keep our deck thin”
Spends all his gold on a card that synergizes with like 1 cars in his deck
say what you want....he did it and I loved every second of it
Great episode NL. Hope you enjoy the update. I've still got no wins myself, but all current unlocks done so now I can just enjoy your episodes more while waiting for the patches.
Check out the beta, it's got more enemies, cards, relics, encounters etc..

Instead of guessing and taking 3 hours to calculate and attack.. and then anyways calculate wrong at the end every time lol.
I tweeted him this. I believe others tweeted him to read my tweet as well. = )
"Our strength is getting stronger."
-northernlion 2018
13:28 is the enemy's weapon a metal lollipop?
Hey NL just wanted to let you know that dual wield + a zero mana attack from infernal blade does work. The copies will cost 0.
Don't forget your relic which allows you to take out a card from your deck at fireplaces.
It hurts how NL ignores Barricade. And yes, I'm watching this series from the beginning in 2020. Actually it is very relatable because I'm just learning how to play Slay the Spire.
Is the question card relic a reference to There's Options from TBOI?
Hey! Just making sure you know, if you hold a card over a vulnerable enemy it shows how much damage it does! Great vid.
I tweeted him about this, and people tweeted him about my tweet, so it's unlikely he's still unaware of this. = )
21:49 logic? Can someone explain? I am baffled.
He's read it, he just forgets about it. I wanted him to drink that swift potion when he had no card draw debuff on.
4:21 interesting shop. Not sure what I'd have done there. Removal, Flex and Inflame certainly, but there's something to be said for the enlightenment play as well.
Incidentally, he didn't botch, so that's promising. = )
I paid of huge though, enlightment carried his ass.
NL. You can see the damage your cards will do by holding them over the enemy. This will show the damage if they are vulnerable or if you are weak
I tweeted him about this, and people tweeted him about my tweet, so it's unlikely he's still unaware of this. = )
NORTHERNLION THERE IS A RELIC THAT MAKES EXCESS MANA ROLL OVER INDEFINITELY. it's an ice cream cone.
I'm A G O N I Z I N G B/C of the misplays... but i enjoy this serie SO MUCH!
The pain.... feels so damn good
When you have the card selected and you hover over your target, it shows you how much the attack is going to do AFTER buffs and de-buffs. You don't even have to do the math you're screwing up.
I tweeted him about it, and people tweeted him telling him about my tweet. It's unlikely that he missed it this time. = )
nl if you hover the card over the target you can see how much damage it's going to do after everything is calculated
"Ohhh, so many misplays I had to go to the exorcist."
In reality, 5 mild misplays tops.
What video were you watching, or are you just counting the fight with the Mystic and Centurion?
Everybody is talking about his misplays but he’s still doing it he’s winning
Winning is not getting to the second level. He's barely scraping by with Northernlion Luck... he's gonna crash hard on the third floor. Again.
If he gets the time eater I bet he ends multiple turns @ 11 cards played.
strong end-half boss fight nl! well done. barricade is extremely good on that boss as you just saw. good position for next floor
So we have the iron clad who is supposed to be a more reckless character given the hp regen with very high damage output cards and synergies
We have the silent who is all about debuffs, defense, and poison damage
Id like the 3rd character to be based on sustain like healing group debuffs
If you manage to replace your strikes with either iron waves or cleaves you're in a good position :)
