Cracked BMW Z4 Headlight Fix - Headlight Removal and Lens Replacement

- This isn't a video I planned on making, but after my headlight got cracked in multiple places, I had to do something! So, I decided to replace the lens on my #BMWZ4 headlight instead of buying a new or used. Not only did I save a lot of money by replacing the headlight lens myself, but I've also learned a new skill! This isn't an easy DIY as it requires a lot patience and time to get it done. You will have to cut off the existing lens with an oscillating tool, heat the sealant holding it in place and remove it small piece at a time. Once the lens is fully removed, the sealant glue has to be removed from the groove and that's easier said than done. Once again, lots of heat, stabbing with a flat head screwdriver is required to get it all out. You're still not done as now you have to install thew new butyl headlamp sealant in the groove and install the lens with lots of heat, of course! Only once it all cures, can you reinstall the headlight back into the BMW.

Great job Andriy! Even my wife likes watching your videos. That was quite the surgery. Looks terrific again.
Thanks, Mil! Great to hear and this one really tested my patience.
I just ordered my replacement lenses and will be tackling this soon. I've watched several videos using the oven baking technique versus cutting out the old lenses so I'm going to give that a shot. Your videos have helped me with a few Z4 projects. Much appreciated!
Happy to hear you find them useful and good luck on the headlight. Let me know how it goes.
How did it go? Planning on oven baking the headlights in my E87 to replace the projectors. Did the glue used make removing the lens a pain in the ass?
wow that's a lot of work, but looks great now!
That’s a mission! Nice job.
do an xpel film protection & if it turns foggy after many years just change the film. that will make it clear & shiny for ever
Well done sir.
Your wheels are 🔥
Whilst i had the lens off i replaced the halos with led and fitted a led fog light in the blank inner space.
I ma searching about headlight lenses for my Toyota auris hybrid 2014?
This is super helpful and thank you for this awesome video!!! I have the exact same issue with both headlights (vertical cracks) so I would like to ask you: are these parts good enough? I guess you are already using this one for some time, any issues? thank you!!!
I'm thinking the dog 🐕 took the blame for you leaving wooden battens next to the vehicle?... 😉
Thought the dog had a guilty look about him... 😂
You are a man with a serious amount of patience because I'm not sure many would attempt that repair..
You know the real test will be if any humidity shows up inside the lens.. I'm hoping not...
Of course now you must polish the other headlight lens so they match..
Great effort.. what's next for the i3?
Welllll, I had to share the blame with someone!
It has been about 10 days since I installed it and I've left the car outside in the rain for a few days, no issues so far!
The i3 has been lowered, widened and got some new shoes! Video coming out soon (2+ hours of video to edit down). I'm very happy with the results!
Thanks for watching!
@@SimpleCarGuy great.. Looking forward to that
A soldering iron might have helped with the glue
It's been about 2 years since the repair. How does it look now? I am about to order a pair of these lenses as mine have mini cracks inside the glass which cannot be polished...
They make it so damn hard to repair cars yourself now!
Hey cool. I need to get bugs out of my lights. This the only video like this I think.
you could warm up and use the old glue.
Great video
Thanks!
yeah I think it would be better just to buy a new unit so water cant get in. but not a bad video
300 to 400 for a new assembly...versus under 100 for the lens........................
@@kjterzif you’re lucky! Prices have gone up! Cheapest is $500 not including shipping
Price info???
Did the repair last in the long run? Any more leaks?
It’s been great since the repair thought the winter. No leaking or moisture inside
Excellent video.
