Mercedes Headlight Lens Cover Damage Repair

  • You might have experienced damage to your headlight on Your Mercedes, particularly to the lens cover part. As long all other aspects of the headlight are working, you can still save the headlight, by replacing just the front lens cover.
I have repaired one light in the past and as of today that is still holding strong and works perfectly fine without any problems or defects. You can't purchase new lens cover at the dealership and you have to look around in the aftermarket option. Pretty much all those covers are made in Chins so no matter where you buy one, it's going to be from same source anyway. New lens cover cost around £50-£75 and new glue/seal called BUTYL in the region of £8 - £15. Therefore your cost for such repair will be under £100 and should be worth trying.
Process is very simple, take out all parts around the light, apply heat, take out old lens cover, clear out old glue/seal, apply new glue/seal and reattach lens cover.
    BUTYL glue/seal Link

You can order it online it's always been plastic not glass designed to protect pedestrians. Dealerships and auto parts stores only sell the entire light which is $2000-$3000!!!! Lens covers online are $50-$100. I think I'm just going to buy the cover and hire a mechanic to do it. Hopefully charges me $40 or so for 1 hour labor.

It's far easier to get a cardboard box big enough for the light to comfortably fit in , put the light in the box and seal it up , cut a hole roughly 4 inches round in one corner, place the heat gun in the entrance to the hole and leave it on for about 15 minutes, making sure the light isn't in direct fire of the heat gun , take it out of the box, should be hot but the lens will come of easily 👍

Warm uo the seal all the way around. Then in the narowest corner jeep heating up and try to slowly widen the gap. I am talking about just few mm. Once you have thise few mm the from that point keep warming up in one side and another and alowly keep going.
Otherwise you vlcan try to put entire headlight into Owen warming up to 100 degrees but tgat comes up with varioua risks.

READ THIS, it will save you 12 hours of work!!!! You probably struggling same as we all did, you tried to follow the steps and it's not coming of whatever, plastic melts and glue is not! They short answer you are not applying enough heat!
Now notice, hes got a heatgun setup so it's always blowing - DO THAT! Get gloves! Bake in oven your headlight for 25 minutes for 100 degrees celclius - NOT NECESSARY, AS GLUE WILL HARDEN VERY QUICKLY ANYWAY! Heat the cover more than the plastic! Try not to touch plastic, just slightly prime in one area, and heat, heat, heat, the bloody cover will melt and WILL BE FLIMSY - Keep doing it and TRY TO PULL, IT WILL WORK. Dont give up and apply more heat in right place! Ideally it's 3 man job, one holding, one pulling VERY HARD, one heating CONSTANTLY!
Once its out use 🔥 HOT SCREWDRIVER to remove the glue inside! Patient, slow and confident! Good luck!

I got to agree with you. Have a broken e class W213 and I tried a heat gun. It started to burn the plastic. Tried a hairdryer. Again it did not budge. The only way it was pulling apart from buy smashing up each section and manually pulling out the the glass and glue. I tried with all my might to try and pull it apart. Even when heated the glue is still like rubber. Thinking maybe this doesnt work on all lights. This light looks older but it also looks like it may have been resealed previously.
