I rig up a belt squat with my barbell, a land mine, and a dip belt. All things most people already have, and if not, can get for around 100 bucks (minus the barbell). I end up standing on two 45 bumpers to allow a better range or motion. Considering I spent nothing extra to get up and running, I'd take it over this setup any day. I load the weight on with my mini deadlift jack, and because the barbell is long, the arc angle is acute enough that you barely feel it in the movement. Just something I thought people might want to try before they go out spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
I’m glad you mentioned the load distribution of what you are actually lifting. Since it’s lever action and you stand behind the weight you aren’t lifting the true amount of weights on the attachment. I had a PowerTec. I calculated and actually used a scale to determine what % of the load I was lifting. The most consistent % I determined is I was lifting 70% of the load.
The issue of shearing force can be remedied by using a wedge board backwards, meaning under the toes, such to match the angle of the lever arm at the bottom. As mentioned, get the SquatMax if comfort is the concern
I've had this for about a year. I like it. I've been doing back squats since I was 16. I'm 49 now and just really don't want to be loading up my back anymore. I made a simple wood stand so I can start from standing. Pretty straight forward, gets the job done.
@@carlpirkle3175 I'm 5'8",depending on you squat belt really. My old one I could squat my butt all the way down. I bought a new one that's a little longer so I made a platform about 31/2 inches high and I can go all the way down.
Agreed and I usually just suggest lever arms if someone wants a set up like this, but I think this is one of those cases where it just makes sense to spend a little more or nothing at all. Generally not a fan of the way this thing loads (impaling your chest), the angles, or having to get into position. At least the Sorinex has a kick stand.
I use my Bells of Steel Jammer arm. It's not great, but serves a job for the very few occasions I use it. I managed to get the whole thing for $120 used.
Yeah I tried top-loading my lever arms for belt squats with calibrated 25 kg plates and it was nearly impossible to unload :D The only problem with the jammer arms is getting into position. For now, my best solution was to use a ropeand a carabiner from the top of the rack. Maybe some has a better solution, like a diy self-releasing kick stand.
This gets me excited. I am unable to load a barbell heavy because of a previous neck injury. I have been looking at options to go heavy on legs and this might be my solution. Thanks for reviewing a solid budget friendly option!
I use this as an accessory piece to my Heavy deadlift days. I like it because I don't have to go heavy. It will pull you forward so I actually sort of stand right over it being 6'6". But it does help offset my Heavy Back squat days. And I don't have the space for an actual machine so this was the BEST option for $220 bucks.
The Bells of Steel arms fit a 2.3 x 2.3 upright. I think they just released a line of 3x3 racks and attachments so that is worth looking into if you have a 3x3 rack. If you're gonna use collars, keep in mind you'll have to buy their collars as the sleeves are a different size. Regular 2" collars won't work. I highly recommend BOS though. Love everything I've gotten from them.
I ordered the Revolt belt sqt last year. I got the one with the horizontal weight arms. It also has a built in kickstand to start the lift from the top. Came with a cheap belt too. I told 2 friends about it. For some reason they were sent the version you show. Paid the same price a I did.
I’ve been using this attachment for around 4 weeks and generally like it. For those worried about scratching their rack I added moleskin on the inside to prevent scratches. I’ve never been a huge fan of squats but find I’m enjoying them more and more with this attachment. Overall I think it’s a good addition to my home gym. Now I just need to make a kickstand. I’m thinking a 4x4 with an old jack handle attached.
I think the best praise a product can get is from a person who doesn't like what it does, but is now doing it because of the product. Props to you and enjoy your sessions!
One of the biggest problems I see with these (or jammer/lever arms) is how short the lever is and the inability to place your hands onto something (which makes this exercise way more comfortable). My DIY solution was to purchase a short upright, use pin/pipe safeties to thread through the upright holes, place in the middle of your rack, place 2x jhooks on ur rack and put the barbell on to hold ur hands. You will need a rack with holes all the way around the upright because the whole belt squat is outside ur rack like in this revolt although its centered and not off of one upright. Definitely need a weight horn to bolt on top of the spare upright. You also need to do some cutting with an angle grinder to get the perfect upright length, etc.
I have this and use it for the reasons you've explained. After years of Jiu Jitsu, my back is a little effed. Loading up the bar on my spine makes it feel worse. This attachment isn't perfect, but I really enjoy it. Pain free squats. :)
I bought this belt squat because ot uses up hardly any space. I like the pump you get from it. I go heavy and have had upper of 5 plates on this thing. It handles it well but the bummer is you need to make a little stand with a piece of 4x4 so you can get the thing around your waist otherwise you waste a ton of energy holding it up while getting into position. Overall I really like the thing and it has helped my overall squat jump.
Great review. I'm as value-minded as they come, and the challenge a piece of equipment like this has is that the truly most budget-friendly option for a level squat rack attachment is just to make it yourself out of 2x4's and bolts/pipe. There's dozens of tutorials on YT and different styles, but they all work about the same.

I bought a couple of 2" plate storage pins and bolted them to a jammer arm. Bolted on with wing nuts, they are quick to put on and take off. The plates load from the side on my jammer arms, but that's because they don't have holes on all four sides. I could drill it from the top and it would be just like this purpose built thing. Using a jammer arm, that's one less thing to store and it gives a multi use bit of kit that does more than the bespoke belt squat attachment. You still need to buy a strong eyebolt and a belt, but it's better value for money. I also use the weight pins and a jammer arm for leg extensions and leg curls. Slip a pad around one of the plate pins and load the weights on the other pin and it works fine. Given the choice between a purpose built belt squat like this and a modified jammer arm, I'd buy jammers and take the additional exercise options every time.

Between the belt squats and sled pulls he was able to maintain his lower body until he recovered from surgery and could start using his upper body (he played football in HS and college).
Bells of steel just released their new Hydra lever arms. They can lock at 7 different positions and have a trolley system for adjustments. All for $550 shipped. Would appreciate a review for these as they are brand new with no reviews yet
I went with CORE BLASTER SQUAT ATTACHMENT WITHOUT BELT from elite fts. It has a nice jack $165 before the 15% code they had in January (Jan15) I have a spud belt and land mine set up already so it ended up being worth it.
I feel like even the way Coop says the word "budget" is hard for him 😂 In all seriousness though I love the channel but it's really nice to see more features on budget items
I have one and stopped using it. It takes up so much of the sleeve that unless you have thin, calibrated, expensive plates, you're quickly running out of space. Also, you have to rig up something to stand on for more elevation for 45lb plates to clear any decent ROM. I wanted to like it as a cheap and easy way to belt squat, but it left me disappointed.
Simple solution to the lever sway on a squat is to make the arm reciprocating on a internal tension spring keeping the squat movement parallel as the arm moves in and out limiting the reciprocation buy adding stopper dowels
I have the belt squat attachment and think it's good but you're right about the felt weight being a lot less than what you're putting on. I wish the weight sleeve was a bit longer as if you're using bumper plates you can't load that much on it (something like 4-5x 55lbs). If I had the slimmer metal plates then I think I'd be happier with the amount it could load. With that said, I can still get a great workout in if I just do more reps so it's great for what it is and the price point. I'm happy with the purchase as it's simple, versatile enough, and you can get a good leg workout in if you just do more reps.
@9:30 if you would like to fix the lever issue you could build a box. This thing would sit INSIDE the box. Now you're squatting pretty much up and down.
I use a dip belt, lever arm, and extra rack weight post to make my own version of this. It was ~$200 from Bells of Steel and I have the added benefit of also having lever arms. But it won't fit most racks like this one does.
The reviews we need are budget versions of the most expensive items. You have covered alot of them. The accessories are nice too. I really liked the collar video. Have you do e a review on lifting shoes?
Future reviews: BOS reverse hyper/Ghd combo. Interchangeability of air bike monitors. Quick size comparison of the big three open trap bars. Versaclimbers
I was thinking of buying something like that to mount on my functional trainer but then I’d have to also buy at least seven 45 lb plates. Instead I built a wooden platform and a pair of 3’ extension cables to utilize both 200 lb stacks with the option to pin 25 lbs more on each side. It works really well and you’re pulling straight up
I’ve had this for awhile now and I can’t seem to get comfortable with it. When I go heavy on it, it pulls me a lot more forward than it pulls me down in the squat. So I feel like I am constantly battling it. When I use it, it’s typically in a circuit with lighter weight and more reps. Or at the end of a leg workout to do a couple sets to failure.
Have you tried it turned around with your ass facing the rack? If not, would you be so kind as to try it and then tell us if this fixes any of those issues?
@@billybrown7953 Agree 100 percent, been to many gyms from NY to Florida and overseas and never seen anyone do these things and never seen a gym with one of those things. Looks like another thing that people will buy because they DON'T WANT TO SQUAT .

I *really* wish someone company would make a combo belt squat / seated calf raise attachment. Seems to make so much sense but I can’t find one anywhere.
I recently turned my Rogue Indy T Bar Row platform into a cable belt squat by rigging up a pulley between the feet in the middle of the unit. I can adjust the starting height and where the cable is centered easily too so I can have it be forward or backward, and flip the unit around to have your feet angled a little up or a little down. Also great for cable T Bell squats that way, and anything with a super low pulley that you’re standing a foot up from. Only issue is that if the weight’s really heavy it’ll want to pull you towards the cable source, but I put down a spacer between them and it’s been fine so far as it just pulls into that. A lot of DIY belt squat platform instructions out there to make them out of wood and hook it up to a cable machine, which makes me surprised no company makes a nicer one like that to sell made out of iron or something. Main issue with belt squat machines is the size.
@@billybrown7953 I’d rather have a SquatMax or Rhino if I had the space in one of my gyms, but you’re claiming to have been around for years and you’ve never seen someone use equipment they rigged up themselves before? You must not know many people. Plenty of the bigger names have used rigged up equipment when they didn’t have the space for more. I get that you’re trying to be snarky and DIY stuff is usually never as good as a dedicated unit for it, but you sound sheltered. Strongman folks do crazy things with rigged up things all the damn time. Most dedicated units started because people used rigged up things and they turned it into a thing. How do you think T Bar Rows became a thing? Some guy in the corner with a barbell and a double D handle.

@@billybrown7953 well yes but I am not saying do this instead of squats - a belt squat is often for people with limitations that don't want to load the spine but still work the legs

Buy it on sell for the holidays and save a few bucks. Plus you can do more with it for the arms and shoulders. Luv mine. Have a shoulder injury and not able to lift at the moment? With the core blaster squat or any belt squat you are able to work out the legs while recovering from the shoulder injury.
Please do a review on manual incline treadmills. Much more realistically priced than a curved treadmill for most people and seems like a viable alternative to a sled as well. There's a Sunny Health & Fitness one for ~$400 that seems decent, but reviews for this type of treadmill are basically non existent.
I have a dual cable machine from Costco. It came with a belt that attaches to both sides. I stand on a 12 inch box and can perform full range of motion during my belt squats. A cable machine is ideal because the load is linear across the entire range of motion. The only disadvantage to mine is that you can't stack a ton of weight on it, like a true hip squat machine. Plenty for me, though!

Can you review the FORCE USA Leg Extension and Curl Attachment? It’s compatible with most of their G-series racks but I haven’t seen any reviews on it yet
If you have a rack with a lat pulldown build in you can just get a 20$ cable kit, install the pulley under the pullup bar by using a ratchet strap and stand on some yoga blocks. It's basically a 20$ rogue rhino.
I’m wondering whether I can use a Marrs-bar instead of a belt squat apparatus to take weight off my spine. You have used all these pieces of equipment. I’d like your opinion. Thanks so much
Is that belt more comfortable than just the typical chain style? After a couple hundred lbs the chain starts digging into your inners, your mind can't focus on the lift.
I dig it, but it seems like it would be cheaper and more space friendly (during storage) to just rig up some belt squats using a barbell and landmine. You're more limited on how much weight you can load but you can also utilize the leverage to multiply the weight.
@@davebrown4841 Because of the reasons already mentioned in this video... neck or back issues, for starters. I feel like even the way Coop says the word "budget" is hard for him 😂 In all seriousness though I love the channel but it's really nice to see more features on budget items
Looks very similar to the Coahuila Iron one I’ve got. Solid addition to any gym.
What about the EliteFTS core blaster? It goes onto a barbell and uses a landmine which a lot of people have
I have the EliteFTS Coreblaster and feel it is easily the best choice unless you have the room and budget for a stand alone belt squat machine.
I too agree. I also have the Core Blaster and it is easy to set up with a
I have one and stopped using it.
Do a Total Gym review. You wouldn’t believe the versatility of it.
The Revolt hip belt squat inspired my own DIY version. I used a 5 foot long pipe, easier on the knees.
Love it Coop! Thanks. I think that using a belt with a chain similar to that of the Pitshark might allow for more fluid motion using the Revolt!
Coop, there is a company out there called Signature Fitness that offers this type of belt squat attachment for $79.99 with free shipping.
That looks very versatile, thanks for the review!
I really like this piece of equipment. totally something I'd add to my rack at home.
Finally getting back to form I see.
@9:30 if you would like to fix the lever issue you could build a box. This thing would sit INSIDE the box. Now you're squatting pretty much up and down.
@Garage Gym Reviews COOP amazing work as always! Will you please do a Titan fitness vertical leg press review!?
I use a dip belt, lever arm, and extra rack weight post to make my own version of this. It was ~$200 from Bells of Steel and I have the added benefit of also having lever arms. But it won't fit most racks like this one does.
The reviews we need are budget versions of the most expensive items. You have covered alot of them. The accessories are nice too. I really liked the collar video. Have you do e a review on lifting shoes?
Future reviews:
BOS reverse hyper/Ghd combo.
It works really well and you’re pulling straight up
Zercher squats do the same thing and are way more effective.
Gee, why not just squat like a real man would .... with a squat rack. LOL 😂
@@billybrown7953 lol why not do both? 😘
@@billybrown7953 how about for the multiple reasons coop outlined in the first 30seconds of this video???
@@billybrown7953 Agree 100 percent, been to many gyms from NY to Florida and overseas and never seen anyone do these things and never seen a gym with one of those things. Looks like another thing that people will buy because they DON'T WANT TO SQUAT .
An updated review of the T-3 would be great. Definitely time for a Titan update deep-dive after your Titan rack overview!
for anyone needing a jack all you need is 2 2x4s at different heights works perfectly
Coop, there’s a belt squat on Amazon exactly like this for $69.99
whats a good budget belt squat belt to go with it?
Love to see a budget hack squat leg press machine. Great vid!
Signature fitness selling the exact product for $79.
This is really cool but I'd love if they cut out some 1 inch holes along the side of the arm, so you can slap on some leg rollers and utility pins and use if to leg curls and leg extensions
Coop: You reviewed both the the Revolt Belt Squat and the Titan Stealth Leg Press devices. You gave them both favorable reviews. If you had to use only one of them, which one would you use? Why?
Could you stand on a wedge? Do you think that would positively affect that shearing feeling you spoke about on your knees
LOL, I've never seen a REAL weight lifter using this garbage.
@@billybrown7953 You have if you met one trying to setup a belt squat for professional rehab work in a really small space until his Kratos gets here.
@@srhyse LOL, sorry been around many years. Never once seen a body builder or power lifter using one. LOL 😂
@@srhyse LOL, name the ...BIG LIFTERS who use this. And send me proof . PS. if you can just rig up something like this ,then why do you need to spend money on this piece of garbage? And why not just do squats. You know the real exercise for the legs.
What type of belt is that, Coop? Do you have a preference for a certain belt for belt squat attachments?
Can you not do this with some kind of landmine, something to elevate your feet (bumpers, cinder blocks?) and a dip belt?
yes, Elite FTS sells that. I stand on two small plyo boxes to increase range of motion. It works good, a bit of a pain to set up.
yes and no. The higher pivot point makes a difference but you can easily build a lever belt squat yourself, with a longer leaver arm and much cheaper than 220 bucks.
Just threw together a Frankenstein Viking press landmine last night. Sore
Or ,you could just do REAL SQUATS. Using a.... SQUAT RACK.
@@billybrown7953 well yes but I am not saying do this instead of squats - a belt squat is often for people with limitations that don't want to load the spine but still work the legs
Thanks for the video Coop! Why wouldn't you just hang a weight directly from your belt? This thing is around +-250,- online. You can get some HEAVY kettlebells for less. Interested in your opinion!
Damnit Coop, I was saying earlier today I think my rack is done, and you pull me back in
Wow. Thank you for that. Can u do one for leg press please ?
Can you do a review on the Signature Fitness belt squat? Looks really good and only $60 on Amazon
I have it
@@Farquad76.547 Good product ? Thanks
Got mine from them last week to review! Very cool you did this! Excited for mine to be out! Nice breakdown!
Nice alternative if space and budget is a concern.
A better alternative is elitfit CORE BLASTER SQUAT ATTACHMENT. The weight ratio is closer to 1 to 1.
Any suggestion for where to connect it ? I don't have a rack. I appreciate if you tell me links or names of brands
I would like to see a review and drop test of the Rep Fitness 1000-Series Power Racks
I have this machine. Never thought if that. Can't wait to try!
They come with the stand also makes it very easy
Coop, is it ok to just use a weighted dip belt for belt squats or should I buy a real belt for belt squatting?
Have you tried doing two arm bent over rows on it? With a reg bar attached.....
Great review. I use a landmine and barbell with my dip belt.
I'd like to see the amazon Fitness Reality squat rack power cage with lat pull down attachment. I don' think you've ever covered the lat pull down on it.
COOP! REVIEW THE SQUATMAX MD!!!
I have this and cannot load it enough to get a benefit... There was also a lot of metal shavings I had to shakeout before use sounded like an etch a sketch...
The short lever definitely causes issues for those wanting to go heavy. Always love your feedback Rodolfo!
@@GarageGymReviews Thank you and as always thank you for the content
Going to a nice restaurant and only ordering a salad, that's the feeling I get when I think of budget belt squat.
For owners of equipment like the inspire FT2, couldn't a belt be used with pullies to achieve the same movement or is there enough weight?
Can you review their leg extension?
Can you review the FORCE USA
Leg Extension and Curl Attachment? It’s compatible with most of their G-series racks but I haven’t seen any reviews on it yet
If you have a rack with a lat pulldown build in you can just get a 20$ cable kit, install the pulley under the pullup bar by using a ratchet strap and stand on some yoga blocks. It's basically a 20$ rogue rhino.
Have you tried the rep belt squat attachment on the ares?
I would like to see a review on the B.o.S. Lat Pulldown Row Machine
Would love to see you show how you would make a kickstand to this
I’m wondering whether I can use a Marrs-bar instead of a belt squat apparatus to take weight off my spine. You have used all these pieces of equipment. I’d like your opinion. Thanks so much
the post doesnt work with rogue competion bumpers. but works with echo bumpers
If you can coop , hack squat / leg press/ leverage squat machines review ?
Whats that belt called you use??? where do you get? thanks
Gee, why not just do REAL SQUATS ????
@@davebrown4841 Because of the reasons already mentioned in this video... neck or back issues, for starters. Could be recovering from a shoulder injury and don't have enough mobility back yet to even reach a barbell on their shoulders. Belt squats have less risk of injury as well. Loads of legit reasons. Why do you even watch these videos? All you ever do is complain.
That's a dope jacket sam
i'm thinking you could do the same sort of setup with a landmine, barbell and dip belt
I'm going to break out the welder and make my own version of this that fits my rack properly.
Just get a 34-35" lever arm and a shackle, done. What's different with this one?
How does the Revolt Belt Squat compare with the Black Widow Training Gear Belt Squat attachment?
COOP do some ethos brand stuff including plates and the ethos rack
I made the same thing with half piece of leftover 2x4 and a piece of 3/4 inch pipe.
Coop ha e u reviw the sorinex j squat? Dies it pull u forward too like other leverahe arms?
Hey Coop does this attachment fit the T3 Titan rack?? I’ve been on the fence about it and have been doing a landmine style belt squat which sucks
Hey Coop could you review some budget functional trainers? Like titan plate loaded functional trainer?
