    Thanks for giving it a shot. Glad you found it entertaining.
    Not at all what I expected for low velocity performance. All of my handgun testing has been in water, clay, or wet-packed newspaper; but most of the testing has been done with rifles - .44 Mag and .444 Marlin.

    • @danratsnapnames
      @danratsnapnames Год назад +2

      been done ALLOT.. done it myself. brass swaged projectiles have nearly the same as factory, and with a few modifications to the swaging process, they can have MUCH BETTER ballistics than factory. this is because factory will use the most "relyable" loads, and the most "AVERAGE" ogive on the tip of a projectile. being that every barrel is different, this means that factory will shoot well AVERAGE amount of times. where, someone who swages thier own jacketed projectiles can hone in on the PERFECT design for the BEST ACCURACY AND BALLISTICS. i made 45's that could go through 3/4 inch of drywall, but not 1.5 inch of drywall. i made projectiles that expoded on impact, i made projectiles that would peper anything with lead pellets like snake shot. it all can be done, and it all has been done.. nothing is new when it comes to firearms and projectiles, unless you look at the cutting edge militiary level stuff.. but civilian, all the same, and has been this way since cowboy days.

  • @E.AllTheAbove
    @E.AllTheAbove 9 месяцев назад +2

    OMGosh, this is a bit of a "terrifying" round. It may be traveling slower, but the way it just explodes/shatters when it hits the solid objects is incredible. I'm aware that most round flatten or spald when they hit a solid surface, which is why we always talk about getting Spalding/shrapnel damage to the neck or arms when wearing metal plate armor. But this round breaks actually seems to shatter in an "explosive way--making it much more devastating and lethal for the area that gets sprayed with its shrapnel.
    This round almost acts like a combination of a FMJ, hollow point, and the R.I.P rounds all mixed into one, because it punches through, flowers, and leaves metal fragments in its target all at once. Prime example is when it hits the Gummy bear--the cavity expansion was massive. Then on top of that, the round still had enough power to go through and completely wreck that vest. Granted, it wasn't a standard gel-block, but still impressive. I would be interested to see a few more tests done with this round.
    1. Shoot a standard Gel-block with a brand new vest behind it. It'd be nice to see the FMJ, HP, and R.I.P combination in full effect, and I am curious if the fatter portion would still go through a standard block and hit the Kev vest and what damage it would still do to the vest.
    2. Shoot a new vest by itself to measure the full effects it has on armor.
    Basically what I am trying to say is, this new homemade-round is impressive and if it were tweeked so that is flew straighter (and maybe a little faster) there would be a new mega round on the block--that's my opinion anyway. And I could only imagine the military, law enforcement and home defense applications this type of round would have... and also what kind of legal issues one might have to worry about if used

    This has been around forever, we do it for 9mm, 40, 45, 357, 44, etc. We use old dies like 220swift, 7mm mauser, 375h&h etc to make these. Lead wire, or blank slugs are used, but other materials like zinc or sand, plastics, wood, wax, glue, and even water has been used in making projectiles like these. I make my own 9mm, 38, 40, 45's and they make good "plinking" and practice ammo. You can also use 45acp or any 7.62 case or 308 or 30.06 case in 50cal muzzleloaders.

    The tricky part was the melt temperature, alloy and pour to get balanced bullets.
    Worked great in an era when .223 was mostly FMJ, and we didn't want to switch to .222 for access to hunting rounds.

    This has so many Cave Johnson vibes to it. "We fire the whole bullet! That's 65% more bullet per bullet."

    Mannyca here on YT did a bunch of these kinds of loadings. Used standard rifle dies and Lee sizer dies. Fully anneal the brass you are going to turn into bullets.

      Good comment...I was wondering if that would be hard on the forcing cone and rifling. Annealing should soften it up enough.

    The rather odd and also rather convenient thing about this video is that I got an ad for bulletproof body armor along with it.

    That first few seconds of the intro music and camera angles literally had me thinking I accidentally clicked on an old How It’s Made video🤣🤣loved the vid man, would have been cool if this idea worked a bit better, but after all the point of testing is to figure out how good they perform so I’d still call it a success😁

    I bet these would actually make a pretty awesome hunting round in a lever-action carbine. Cool idea! Makes me want to see someone load some live .40 S&W rounds into .44 Magnum (or .454 Casull for safety?) brass for use in a rifle or Super Redhawk…
