    • @DavidHutchinson0713
      @DavidHutchinson0713 7 лет назад +50

I do wonder about that sometimes (it's my second favorite), but one of the reasons people hate MTM because, well, it's suprisingly gentle, especially compared to Hybrid Theory or Meteora (except Breaking the Habit, which is electronic rock not unlike A Thousand Suns or Living Things; or Numb, a ballad). Another factor is that Chester was pretty much the sole frontman, with Mike being demoted to backing vocals, with several times in the spotlight. The only song that has the Chester/Mike combo that HT or Meteora had was Bleed It Out. And the change of sound really pisses off fans who wanted to hear another HT.

A band doesn't always have to "evolve". They can just change their sound, which is what LP typically does. LP changes their music every album solely to have something new to look forward to and have fun doing it.
If a band did the same thing for 20 years and were miserable the whole time, why make music at all?
I love LP's first two albums, but if all they did for the next 14 years after that were the same exact sounding albums as the first two, I would stop listening after MTM and forget about Linkin Park until this year, when I find out bands that haven't changed their sound (like Papa Roach) still exist and are still making music.
Obviously bands will make albums that everybody hates. That's the point of making music. It's a hit or miss. But they don't do it just to learn what people think about it - they do it because it's fun. They're having fun.
If they're having fun, that should be the only thing that matters. Nobody's being betrayed because of a style change. They didn't murder your dog or your family and burn the house down and piss on what remains. They just changed their sound, as they've done every other album before it, and just like they'll do with every album after.
If they betrayed us, then they've betrayed every fan of every individual albums. They betrayed the ATS fans, they betrayed the LT fans, they betrayed THP fans, and in three years from now when they make their next album, they're going to betray the OML fans.
LP can never catch a break or win. But luckily, they don't care.

Very true, that's what separates the good from the great, being able to alter your sound with it still sounding great. Look at Zeppelin and the Beatles, they're identified as the best in music because of how their music grew and changed over the years.

One More Light was the first album I listened to by Linkin Park, which says a lot about my music taste. I then moved onto A Thousand Suns, then Living Things, Hunting Party, and Minutes To Midnight. I will be moving into Meteora and Hybrid Theory soon, but I personally feel like OML was my favorite album. It was the first album I got hooked up on. Not long after that, I hear the news that Chester Bennington had passed. This made me look deeper into the music and feel what each song has to say. Thank you Linkin Park for helping me appreciate music more than I could have ever known.

3:26 "It's not a career ender" : you didn't think you could be so wrong in your life, didn't you ? 😓 One More Light album was a cry for help from Chester and no one saw it at the time of its release... the lyrics were not as basic and cheesy as they seemed if you look at it from this point of view... and it's a curious thing to say for me as I usually dislike most of the Pop music these days, but I ended up loving this album after Chester's passing, and I really didn't care about it being mellow and not heavy. For all its flaws, this album helped me through difficult moments at the time and I'll personally put it on my top 3 LP albums, even though I hated it at 1st hearing. LP had me loving some pop stuff one day and that's a really great achievement regarding my musical tastes. This is Chester's goodbye present, and I'm glad I could cherish it at its right value.
    RIP Chester ❤

Love you so much for this. I have always said that 'The Little Things Give You Away' is an absolute masterpiece and what I consider to be one of the best, if not actually the best LP song. It's just amazing and even though we know what it was written about, it could be interpreted in so many ways. I always had my own little interpretation that it was about unrequited love and being someone's plaything. I know that's far from the actual meaning of the lyrics, but my own interpretation allowed me to melt into it. There are so many layers to this song and some of the best vocals from Chester (RIP).

Countless other great tracks like Burn it Down, Lost in the Echo and Until It Breaks. The only track on the album I don’t like is Lies Greed Misery, but even it has some good sections. [LONG POST ALERT]
Mind you that I think EVERY Linkin Park song and album is AMAZING. So here's my list:
    7. The Hunting Party
This is the first Linkin Park album I pre-ordered, as I became a fan in late 2011 (I was 9), and only REALLY got into the band maybe half a year to a year after Living Things came out. Before then, I only really listened to Breaking the Habit, Waiting For the End, Numb, Faint, Don't Stay and Easier to Run. This album is friggin awesome and satisfies me as a metalhead, but it just has this odd feel to it, maybe it's the rawness. The only reason this is at the bottom is because I just like the other albums more. But still, 10/10 album.
Favourite: A Line in the Sand
    Least Favourite: Mark the Graves
    6. Hybrid Theory
Hybrid Theory was the 3rd Linkin Park album I bought because I thought it was the one with What I've Done. I don't exactly remember what I thought of the album years ago, but I know it's a magnificent album. It contains one of my favourite Linkin Park songs, but also contains a couple of my least favourites.
    Favourite: Pushing Me Away
    Least Favourite: Crawling
    5. Living Things
Like I said, I only became a huge fan a while after Living Things came out. And I remember that I loved the fresh feel this album had. I also have fond memories of listening to Castle of Glass and Powerless on repeat. A couple of the tracks took a while to grow on me, such as Skin to Bone, Roads Untraveled and to a lesser extent, Lost in the Echo, but I now think they're beautiful songs.
    Favourite: Lost in the Echo
    Least Favourite: Lies Greed Misery
    4. One More Light
When I first heard Heavy, I embraced the stylistic change, and I still do. I don't care that the album is pop, because it's a pretty damn amazing pop album. While Heavy is further down my list of Linkin Park songs ranked than it was originally, I still adore it. I remember hearing on LPLive that the album leaked online, so on one of my exam days where I had 2 exams, in between the papers, I sat down and listened to the songs I hadn't heard yet (Studio versions. I had already heard live versions of Talking to Myself and One More Light from videos of the performance at the Maximus Festival in Buenos Aires). LITERALLY right after I finished listening to all of them, one of the teachers caught me and confiscated my phone for the school day. I remember listening to the album 2 hours before it was supposed to come out because I pre-ordered it and iTunes told me I could download it. I remember being in a really good mood afterward and listening to the album 6 times the next day while on a road trip to Malaysia. I did the same 2 days later when on the way back to Singapore. I think I've listened to Sharp Edges about 60 times.
    Favourite: Sharp Edges
    Least Favourite: Halfway Right
    3. Minutes to Midnight
Oh my god, this album is absolutely magnificent, and successfully showed a more mellow side to Linkin Park, and also a more focused side to the heavier songs. This album sticks out to me mostly because a lot of the songs are quite high up on my ranking of Linkin Park songs. I don't remember what I thought of the album years ago (I know I loved it, but in specifics). What I do know is that I've had Given Up and Leave Out All the Rest on repeat, and it's got a LOT of stand out tracks such as In Pieces, Valentines Day and the monolithic The Little Things Give You Away. Beautiful album.
    Favourite: In Pieces
    Least Favourite: Bleed it Out
    2. A Thousand Suns
I first heard Linkin Park during their A Thousand Suns cycle, when I heard Waiting For the End in Tap Tap Revenge 4. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't until I heard Breaking the Habit in a Metal Fight Beyblade (Beyblade Metal Fusion in America) AMV that my life changed. Regardless, I always thought A Thousand Suns was a really cool album. I can't remember if this album or Meteora was the first album I ever heard, but I love them both. For the longest time, A Thousand Suns was my favourite album ever and was the album that I listened to the most. Recently, Meteora has edged out A Thousand Suns, but this album still holds a special place in my heart. I remember being attracted to When They Come For Me because it had swearing in it. I know that I've had Waiting For the End, Iridescent and The Catalyst on repeat. This is definitely Linkin Park's largest album, not just in length, but also in terms of sound.
    Favourite: The Catalyst
    Least Favourite: The Messenger
    1. Meteora
This album is just WOW. I'm not sure whether I listened to this or A Thousand Suns first, but I know that this was the first album I ever bought. And for good reason too. Breaking the Habit was, and still is an amazing song. I remember listening to a couple songs on this album in a weird shuffled order all the time in Grade 5 Computer Club (I don't remember what exactly the club was, but I know it involved computers. The shuffled order as far as I can remember was Breaking the Habit, Don't Stay [Which was called Don't Say in my library for some reason, damn you iTunes errors! You call Never Wake Up from Sum 41's All Killer No Filler 'Never Wake UP' and the the album version of The Mob Rules from Black Sabbath's Mob Rules that I got was the Heavy Metal movie version], Easier to Run, Faint, then I don't remember the rest). This album is absolutely god tier, and has got so many amazing tracks, such as Don't Stay, Somewhere I Belong, Lying From You, Hit the Floor, Easier to Run, Faint, Figure .09, Breaking the Habit, From the Inside, Nobody's Listening, Session and Numb. This album holds a special place in my heart, and will probably be my favourite album forever.
    Favourite: Easier to Run
    Least Favourite: Nobody's Listening

As a fan of both rock and pop as well as enjoying it when bands try new sounds, of course someone like me wouldn't get why people don't like One More Light. Yes, I do understand why people wouldn't like it as much because of how much different it is from what they're used to coming from Linkin Park, but it's not like them changing up their sound is new. Especially now that Chester is gone, give One More Light another chance and just pay attention to how deep the lyrics are and how passionate Chester is about the story this album tells. I love all of Linkin Park's albums, and that includes One More Light :)

In my opinion their there can't really be a worst/best album because they were all different, there were some similarities but still different. They always tried to find their own sound but they didn't want to keep one sound so they always changed. For example, Hybrid Theory Vs One More Light or Minutes to Midnight Vs Living Things. They never really kept to one sound but every song they made was banging, the lyrics were always emotional as they were always based on how one of them were feeling. And don't forget their song "Closer" the reason they had Chester shouting "Shut up" was just a reason for him to shout because the day they made that song, he was feeling down, and they kept it.
Linkin Park never kept to one sound but that's what most of us loved but there was a reason to each song and wasn't always just about Chester, Bleed it out was made For Mike and What I've done was actually made for Joe. So like I said, there was a reason to each song and they all sounded different but similar at the same time and that's what we loved. Each album was different but they were perfect in different ways. I think people need to learn to accept that not all good things are the same.
    Btw this is my list:
    7:
    6:
    5:
    4:
    3:
    2:
1: Hybrid Theory, one more light, living things, meteora, minutes to midnight, a thousand suns, hunting party.

    6: A Thousand Suns
    5: Living Things
    4: The Hunting Party
    3: Hybrid Theory
    2: Minutes to Midnight
    1: Meteora
It pains me to put 'Hybrid Theory' at number 3, but there's some filler on there. Didn't include 'One More Light' as I've not heard it. The singles put me off.

    Worst to Best Album Ranking:
    7: Meteora
    6: One More Light
    5: Minutes To Midnight
    4: Living Things
    3: The Hunting Party
    2nd and 1st: Hybrid Theory
    1st and 2nd: A Thousand Suns
    Meteora:
It was a great Nu-Metal album with great songs like Faint, Breaking the Habit, Numb, but it didn't do something new, like Hybrid Theory did, the Lyrics were too Angsty. Linkin Park seemed like they didn't even wanted to do this album, like they only did it to retain their places in the maintream. The song "Breaking the Habit" had powerfull vocal from Chester Bennington which made the song Heavier than it seemed in it's instrumental version, it featured a soft Guitar sound and some electronic elements that would define Linkin Park's later music.
    One More Light:
Despite being a Pop Album, Linkin Park nailed the Genre and made Pop for once listenable without having having Ears "Bleed it Out". Most Songs on that Album were Earworms, you could listen to them for 10 Hours straight without any pausing. Mike Shinoda singing in the songs "Invisible" and "Sorry For Now" was beautiful, not only did he prove that he was a great rapper, but also a great singer with his soft singing voice. Chester's vocal was as good as always. His screaming during the live version of "One More Light" was great it was Heavy and emotional. His singing in the live version of "Heavy" during the Bridge was even better than the Studio version, he literally stole Kiara's show while she stole his show during the second Verse and Chorus. You coudn't even hear Kiara during the Bridge because of Chester's Powerful Voice, he put his entire energy into the Bridge when he was singing softly during the song .
The lyrics were pretty "Heavy" in emotions, especially the tear jerking song "One More Light".
    Minutes To Midnight:
This is the Album where Linkin Park started to change. It's their second softest album after OML, despite having 2 of the Heaviest song in their entire discography, "Given Up" with Chester's 17 Second long scream and "No More Sorrow" with Heavy Guitars, Chester's Angry singing and screaming. The Lyrics started to get less Angsty and more Political and Personal. Songs like "The Little Things You Give Away" and "In Between" focused more on the music than the vocals, the Guitars were Beautiful and the Vocal were really Good as expected.
    Living Things:
It was the best Alternative Electronic Rock album in music, Linkin Park brought back it's core element when it some to singing, while retaining it's Electronic elements. It had too many underrated songs like "In My Remain" and "I'll Be Gone" which were great Alternative Electronic Rock songs. The song "Until It Breaks" has one of the best Rapping from Mike, it was the first time that Brad Delson was singing in a song.
The songs "Lies Greed Misery" and "Skin To Bone" feel like they belong more in "A Thousand Suns". "Lies Greed Misery" was a wierd Electronic Song à la ATS with Mike's Rapping and Chester's Screming.
Overall it was a Great Album that took the Hybrid Theory and Meteora formula and made it even better.
The song "Victimized" was the Heaviest song on LT, it was like a foreshadowing to the next album The Hunting Party.
    The Hunting Party:
This Album was made because there was too much bland Pop songs on the Radio and the Mainstream. It's was also pure Fanservice for the Fans who wanted more Heavy music from LP.
It was LP's Heaviest Album, it was Hard Rock album with some Nu-Metal elements. There were soft songs like "Final Masquerade" "Until It's Gone". It had also a handfull of featured Artist like the Legendary Rapper Rakim in "Guilty All The Same", a song that bashes mainstream media, and one of the most unique guitarist Daron Malakian in "Rebellion", featuring one of the Heaviest Screaming from Chester.
"Wastelands" was the song the fans asked for since Meteora, it was a pure Hard Rap Rock or Nu-Metal song without elctronic elements with Mike's agressive Rapping during the Verses and Chester's Angry Singing, like back in the days with Hybrid Theory and Meteora.
The song "War" had more Heavy Punk Rock elements, it's the Heaviest song alongside "Keys To The Kingdom" and "A Line In The Sand" with Chester's Heavy Agressive singing and screaming.
"Mark The Graves" is a more slow paced song while focusing more on the music than the vocals, it was more like a "Minutes To Midnight" inspired song, but it didn't feel out of place in this album, it had Chester's Agressive Vocals. It's a Great song to listen to in the morning while going to School or Work. It also had the same Tempo as the song "Blackout".
It's a overall underrated Album which deserved more recognition from the public, sadly the Radio refused to play most of "The Hunting Party for being too "HEAVY", according to Chester Bennington in his Tweet after a fan telled him that THP deserved more recognition from the Public.
Chester's Tweet: "Radio wouldn't play the hunting party because it was too "heavy".
    Link: twitter.com/ChesterBe/status/866475147796008960
It's the mainstreams fault for THP to sell very poorly, it's LP least sold Album. Not enought promotion and radioplay.
    A Thousand Suns:
It's the Greatest and the weirdest Linkin Park Album, it was the Best concept album i've ever heard. It ahd the theme of nuclear warfare and regret.
It went a more experimental direction with songs like "When They Come for Me" or "Wretches and Kings".
The song "Waiting For The End" is Linkin Park's greatest song of all time, even better than "In The End" and "Numb".Chester and Mike's reggae inspired singing was just beautiful, the soft beginning to the powerful ending which made the song stand out from all the other songs Linkin Park ever made.
The song "Burning In The Skies" had the chilliest and nicest Guitar out of any songs LP has ever made.
    Hybrid Theory:
Despite "A Thousand Suns" being Linkin Park"s greatest album, Hybrid Theory was the Album that started LP's career in the music industry. It was truly a Hybrid Album with Heavy songs like "One Step Closer", "With You" and "By Myself".
While having some Poppy song like the lord of Edgy Emo Memes song "Crawling" or the most Popular Linkin Park song of all time "In The End" with a Meme on it's own.
Agressive Rap Rock songs like "Forgotten", "Points of Authority" and the underrated "High Voltage".
a song with mostly scraching like "Cure For The Itch" featuring Joe Hahn's crazy Scraching and a beautiful Piano play.
And the Softest song of the Album "My December" with Chester's soft Vocals and Mr. Hahn scratching.
Linkin Park first song that went into the mainstream was "One Step Closer", a great song with one of Chester's most memorable Scream "Shut Up when i'm talking to you" which surprisingly didn't became a Meme yet.
"In The End" is the Linkin Park's the people will mostly recognise, it's LP's most maintream song alongside "Numb".It features Mike rapping the Verses and Chester's singing the Chorus and Bridge.
When you hear the tittle "In The End" you will directly think of Linkin Park, because this is Linkin Park.
    Bonus:
"A Light That Never Comes" is one of Linkin Park's weirdest songs, it's a collab song between Linkin Park and Steve Aoki, it's a Electonic Rap Rock song with some EDM elements. Just like most of Living Things songs. It has the usual Linkin Park Formula with Mike rapping in the Verses and the Bridge and Chester singing in the Chorus.

I just, don't like anything about it, I was bored to death after the first 4 songs and just dropped it, it's the onlyh album I couldn't even finish. I feel like they perfected the style they had with ATS with Living Things and everything about LT just sounds way better. But that's my opinion.
OML was pretty lackluster, but at least I finished it and kept a couple of songs on my pop playlist on Spotify.

One thing I love about Linkin Park is that every single album has its own sound, they are all different and perfect (except for Meteora and Hybrid Theory which are pretty much the same thing). And that makes it pretty hard to rank them. I just know that Meteora is the best and One More Light is the worst one.
