  • Once again the mighty North River Fishing Vessel TITAN URANUS under captain Mike left Westport on opening day to fish Deep Water Halibut and Lingcod using electric reels and a secret weapon live bait.
First stop-live bait. Second stop-Lingcod. Third stop-Halibut. Four stop-Yellowtail. We braved rough seas and high winds but came back with a cooler full of delicious sea food.

Black cod is my favorite Halibut bait. They love it

And they're tasty critters too. No wonder Halibut like them.

@Northwestfishingfanatics Yeah they're good eating. Both of my biggest Halibut have come on black cod

It's surprising how with the camera mounted to the boat the wave action doesn't translate at all - we were rocking and rolling out there.

How deep are you fishing? What’s the best bait and how heavy should the weight be? I’ll be fishing in 600’ of water off Westport wa. Love the electric reel you have! Thank you sir!

@@redbaron8989 this was in about 600-700ft. We use 2lbs. Any heavier means conditions are not pleasant. We use Tuna bellies, Shad, or Mackerel. Also big grubs on 24oz jig heads or pipe jigs.

Thank you! Do you think frozen sand dabs would work well?

@@redbaron8989 Sure will. We normally use dabs for Lings but they should work for Halibut too.

Have you guys actually used dead sand dabs with success on bottom fish? If so that makes it easy to procure. Thanks for your time and knowledge sharing!

@@redbaron8989 No. We Catch and keep them alive. But... I think they die on the way down.
