Fishing is not just about catching fish. It is about carrying on a family tradition. My father taught me at age 6 how to catch fish. That obsession grew to include Salmon, Steelhead, Kokanee, Halibut, Ling Cod, Rock Fish, Tuna and more.
From catching Trout in France in the 60's, to Salmon & Arctic Grayling in Alaska during the 70's, & 80's, to Montana Browns and Florida's Snook & Hammerhead Sharks, I may help you become a better fisherman with tips, tricks and useful advice. Jigging For Chinook
Jigging in shallow salt water can be a rush when big fish can't run deep. We jigged up a couple Chinook in Marine area 13 and a couple bonus surprises too.

Once we hit the spot 15 or so miles offshore it was a wide open Salmon bite. From the minute we dropped our bait in the water they were on the chew. We safely released a few unclipped Silvers and ended up with a nice 6 Salmon limit in less than 2 hours. Once home we even had time to wash the boat and process the fish all in the same day. The Pacific Ocean did not disappoint. We trolled Hoochies, Spoons and Herring cured in Pro-Cure Brine and Bite and they all caught fish. Coho/Silver Salmon, King/Chinook Salmon were on the menu today. The biggest weighing in at 24.5 pounds. It was an Albacore Tuna Bloodbath. We traversed 60 miles of Ocean to land upon 60 degree clear blue waters. @@Northwestfishingfanatics If true, this will haunt your dreams forever! I'd stick with a skate. I lost a king on the Columbia I never saw. It was either 40+, or I hooked a pissed off submarine. (not sturgeon or sea lion).

Get rid of the split ring and swivel. strange things happen down there with the fish twisting and thrashing around. We jig for them in the Columbia gorge. Highly effective at times!

Loose that hook setup and tie a double hook rig and bend the eyelets of the dart over very slightly to one side and slip it on the leader above your hooks set. Run bigger hooks too 4/0 at least.
@@trihulladventures6567 ya know it's one of those things where I know the set up isn't the best but still use them unchanged. I really do need to improve them. Even Toby told me to use one of his before we started fishing.

We catch them just fine without re rigging them. Only change we make it fresh hook every time we go out.

Put a swivel on the split ring, then your siwash to the swivel, the fish cant get any leverage that way

Best way to keep them on longer. My pops back in the day lost one boat side to a snapped split ring. Sucker was 30 lbs and I started the swivel to split ring after that fish and never had a problem after

We limited out there last Sunday. Y’all gotta be careful of the commercial crab pot that’s on the bottom out there between little and big trap. That thing has 100s of jigs stuck in it.
We got everything from sculpin, flounder, squid, dogs, and I even some how managed to snag a sand lance right through the middle. Must have been jigging in a bait ball.

Love your attitude towards fishing! Definitely reminds me of my Dad. When I was a kid, I could never understand how he could go from sunrise to sunset and not catch anything. As I’ve gotten older, I get it! There’s just something about being out in nature on the river!

Well, it looks like you had a killer day. But Im just starting out and have lots to learn from scratch. Your video explained virtually nothing about locations, tackle, depths, cleaning the fish, troll versus drift, fish finding, reels, etc. So it was entertaining, but not too informative. Do you have other videos that explain what you are doing, maybe more geared to beginner albacore fishing?
you are correct. typically my videos are for entertainment purposes but over time, if one pays close attention to what is being shown one can learn quite a bit. If you have specific questions I'd by glad to answer them.

@@Bigfishfun333 yes. They're big Jons. They came with the boat when I bought it. They're older models and work well. Not great, just well enough to keep from buying Scottys. Lol

Curious. I just put a new single hook on a split ring to the tail eyelet. Hope I didn’t ruin the action
probably be fine. I use a barrel swivel sonit spins against the fish. Especially when coho do their death roll.
With everyone down pounding on Buoy 10, i figured you might be on the river, steelhead fishing has been good.
@@morgankruse4666 Most of my time at the river house is spent mowing lawns and general maintenance. I've been there plenty but haven't fished. Also, I tend to fill me freezer with ocean caught fish before targeting the river.

Started fishing here because of your videos! Such a fun fishery, I don’t have down riggers so I’ve been running 4 oz weights on a dropper line in front of my flashers and going back 115 feet and smacking them. Great video, thanks for all the tips!

We do the same and we average 90-120 pulls and do decent with a brads cut plug with shrimp

If memory serves, the rods are 7'6" Okuma Kokanee Celicio light action, the reels are Okuma Convector line counters, left hand and the main lines are 20lb Power Pro braid. thanks for watching
