I'm sure all of us have shot a 22 that was as accurate as the voodoo. My old bolt action Remington Targetmaster was a tack driver before my eyes gave up. I actually built one of his guns and bought another prebuilt by someone else, (his specs from one of his videos) and both guns made me shoot better. Maybe it’s all in my head, but my Buckmark is deep into $800 and is worth every penny although it did hurt paying that much for a range toy, I have easily earned back every penny in joy. The other was a 10/22 which I bought prebuilt for closer to $1,200 and honestly it’s at least twice as good as the Buckmark and everyone that tries it adds at least one or two of its features to their own if they already have a 10/22.
He has very good advice and while it’s sometimes quite expensive quality isn’t cheap. But also remember that many of his trick shots are done with his Henry lever gun which can be had for a song considering how pretty it is and that is far from a rack driver and yet it still splits cards with the best of them.

I enjoyed this, I built a custom 10/22 using a target model receiver and everything else was Volquartsen (bolt assembly, trigger group, and barrel). I thought putting $1k at the time into a .22 was getting a bit obsessive (or ludicrous) but it shoots with similar accuracy, especially with Eley target or club xtra ammo. It’s common at 50 yards to put 3 shots in the same hole and all 5 shots touching, but that 5th shot is always the group maker.

I am just scratching the surface of precision.22. I recently bought the Bergara B14r and topped it with the Arken SH4J 6-24 Gen 2. It shoots very well so far. I am taking the time now to find ammo it REALLY likes. It has shot most everything I have fed well. I have stayed in the standard velocity range and working on getting some of the pricier ammo. The stores around here don’t carry much if any. I have watched many rifles and shooters use a lot platforms and the Vudoo has been one of the most accurate platforms I have seen. I just can’t bring myself to pay it haha. I never thought I would pay what did for my Bergara! Thanks for the content.

Very nice rifle. Thanks for putting it through its paces. My first experience with a precision .22 rimfire was a BRNO Model 4 made in 1957. It was one of a batch that were made for the Czech Olympic team - this one had been used for training. I used a simple rest (it didn't have a bipod), and the scope was an inexpensive (for that time) Bushnell 6-24 x 50. Because of the unusual "patent" scope mount grooves milled into the receiver by BRNO (17mm dovetail ?), the only rings available were for a 1" tube, and apparently were made in Australia. It had been bedded and "set up" be an armorer with 25+ years of experience, and he'd really put some work in, especially on the trigger. The stock was a nicely figured wood - pretty plain and "boxy" but it fit the shoulder very well. (I sure would have liked one of those pop-up cheek rests). The rifle had come to the owner with a Shooting Book listing every range session, including weather, time of day, # of rounds fired, ammunition type, and a record of the 'tightness' of every 3- or 5-round group. The consistency was amazing.
Shooting it, the ammunition I had available was regular CCI - no Eley to be found. Even so, the accuracy was astonishing out to 500 yards - the longest range available. If my memory is correct, the barrel was close to 30 inches, and easily 30 mm - about 1-1/8" - in diameter. The rifle also had a set of very elaborate vernier peep sights, number-matched to the rifle and also made at the BRNO works. Those are almost unobtanium these days. They were superb - far better than the guy peering through them. The price had been high but not ridiculous, I was told - I'd guess $500 given the price of an "average" .22 at the time. They cost more now. These came were the predecessors to the CZ "target" .22's built in the same factory. It was a beautiful rifle to shoot, and although almost as old as I was, in superb condition. Much later I had a chance to shoot a different BRNO Model 4, that one with a good Leupold scope (30mm tube). Having the better glass was nice - unfortunately, rifle and scope were totally out of reach.
Now I'm hoping that someday I'll have a chance to try out a Voodoo with a good scope. Looks like a sweet setup.

  • @jackt6112
    @jackt6112 4 года назад

Eley is the right stuff. I worked a lot on Model 52 with the bull barrel. What I did to get it to shoot perfect is to bed the action, and don't let anything touch the barrel. E.G. I had to remove the contact points in the stock. While in the stock it looked like the stock was touching, but it wasn't. I could run a piece of paper down the barrel all the way to the action and not hit anything. After that I didn't need to do warmup shots anymore and it was consistently accurate. I had a big Unertyl open gimbal scope on it. The micrometer format is very nice because you with the range finder you could just rachet it to the setting and shoot, and 50 yards was zero. 200 yards was 53" with Eley Tenex. I cut out Styrofoam shapes with a cord through them and covered it with fabric to use as rests for hunting. I made a metal rod with a white plastic and a weighted pivot that I would stick into the ground halfway between my position and the area I was staking out. I would read the wind speed on the pointer through the scope and adjust the micrometer for windage. After some shooting you have all of your settings and you only need one shot. 175 yards was consistently a 3/4" group, and 200 about the same. 250 not so much. That was more 75% of clay pigeon size group.

Lots of money but the ammo is almost free and the shooting is good. I just bought a 45-70 and hunting ammo is insane but the rifle was not, ($750 for the gun and cheap ammo is $2 a shot). A $4,000 .22 with $.05 a shot cheap ammo means after you shoot about 1,600-2,000rds of .22 you are equal to my new 45-70 assuming no repairs, (the lever gun will need something around then but the .22 will be good for another 50,000rds).
Of course that’s a lot of money when a fine 10/22 will get you 95% as much joy for far less.

John-Paul Silke still there is no replacement for displacement, you still wanna shoot something with a bit of recoil, to learn recoil management. A 22 is great to learn the rudimentary, but u dont need a $3000 one, $400 will do.
But to each to their own, if u wanna buy one get one.
      Michigan dont want one so.

How to shoot straight Channel you are absolute correct but there are all kinds and even low power air rifle is a discipline where at 25yrds they shoot 1/5th MOA or better. Some of those guns are $10,000 and we should welcome them to our weird and somewhat wasteful sport with the same eagerness as .22 rim fire guys. I’m a .22 plinker because it’s cheap and fun but all day long I can shoot 500 S&W and if I could I’d shoot 400-500rds a day. But 100rds of .22 scratches that itch. I do have a couple quite expensive .22’s and this gun holds no interest to me, but I am getting older and most shooting is more fun then less shooting......

Us mortals need some handicaps to get anywhere near the levels of legends like 22plinkster. Money buys a proven rifle, a proven scope which allows a not so good shooter to focus on developing a skill rather than questioning equipment. I'm a decent shot and I've had a brand new scope and couldn't get it sighted in for the life of me. Ended up getting a new scope through warranty. Spending money on quality helps.

If you are a 3 moa shooter with a 2 moa rifle shooting 2 moa ammunition that’s up to 14” a 100yrds. The same 3 moa shooter with a .5 moa rifle and shooting .5 moa ammunition can make that 8” and learning how to read you sights and set up your ranges can shrink both of those by half nearly instantly to 7” and 4” which is plenty good for most people. (I’m a 3 moa guy myself as are most hunters but a good gun and very good ammo can bring home a trophy or dinner.

The Vudoo vs. Ruger Precision Rimfire
What do you get in accuracy
    -vs-
what do you pay out; Vudoo = 5x the cost of the Ruger PR.
I hope you do a side-by-side contest with these two, keeping the big cost difference up front.

I re-watched the Lithgow "most accurate" video from 22Plinkster, but even for 22-Plinkster the Vudoo 22 was the 'best'. I have seen better youtube Vudoo 22 reviews with greater details of design and shooting different ammo/situations ... My personal experience with my own Vudoo 22 has been even better (20" MTU barreled action with a Bixn Andy 2 stage trigger in a KRG Bravo chassis) Using a higher power comp scopes are beneficial to placement so Vortex Golden eagle or Night Force x42 comp scope 30 MOA base.
So at 100 yards with Center X or Midas+ (Midas+ more consistent but $$ more) 1/2" even on the right day 1/4" .... amazing rifle! This off bipod and rear bag but wooooo. One of the biggest reason for going to Vudoo was Left-Handed action, but the rifle is the most consistent and accurate RF rifle. My 2nd would be the Tikka Tx1..... best 430$ you can spend (SK Long Range 22 ammo ....loves it) and Tx1 left-hand coming in soon.
Enjoy and pursue the best accuracy ..dam!

I’ve got 2 Winchester 52b Sporting rifles, 2 Cooper sporting rifles, a stock Ruger 10/22 (with an ages-old Tasco 4x scope) and a Dakota 22 LR sporter that will outshoot the Vudoo all day. Never had that much luck finding a Kimber that would shoot that well despite their gorgeous wood. Back in the day, when 22 metallic silhouette was hot, I got the downtrodden and dejected looks from the other competitors when I showed up with that Ruger 10/22. I was only 17 years old at the time, worked part time in sporting goods at JC Penney in order to pay for college and that was all I could afford. I’m now 60 and still have that Ruger. 4 out of 5 times I cleaned their clocks with that little auto using Winchester Super-X ammo vs their high end Kimbers and heavy barrel target 22s and Eley ammo. I never had to work a bolt or reposition my hands or cheek, shot to shot. That was a HUGE advantage. Reminds me of the old saying: Beware the man than has only one gun. He likely knows how to use it. I’ve been crazy about super accurate 22LR sporters ever since. Never had much use for all that unwieldy steel on a heavy barrel. Couldn’t carry it squirrel hunting. 🤣

@@huntingdude4life It doesn't. Shooting really well at extreme distance requires a special skill set of understanding wind and changes in wind over distance, heat, humidity etc. Extreme long range shooting is more about the skill of the shooter than the equipment, but you do need the equipment to be up to the challenge. I would guess that Vudoo promotes these extreme distance shoots and shooters so that is why you see so many Vudoo's at the game. That is a good thing and the Vudoo is a great rifle but there are a few steps beyond them.

    • @bichettereds
      @bichettereds 4 года назад

Exactly what David said. Just because you see vudoos in long range matches does mean its more accurate at long range than other actions and barrels. It has a lot to do with the fact that it’s magazine fed, reliable, and the customization of it. Look to the benchrest game to see where the most accurate rifles in the world are. Vudoo does have a single shot action coming out that might start showing up in benchrest matches in the coming years. I’m looking forward to seeing how they do. What plinkster said about these rifles being so much more accurate at longer ranges compared to others that are as accurate or more at shorter ranges doesn’t make much sense.

One here on RUclips to address this weird accuracy issue when you said you shot 10 rounds with the different ammo before you started trying for your group size. I have discovered that no matter what 22lr you are using form the very cheapest to the most expensive maker if you don't shoot sometimes as much as 30 to 40 rounds down the barrel you may as well not even be trying to make and informed decision as to how accurate that manufactures ammo shoots in your gun. Also don't skin me alive with this next statement but it is very true. The dirtier you leave a 22lr barrel the more accurate it will shoot.

I hit a knot hole about 1 inch diameter in a 2x4 at 200 yards twice and it blew right through. (Nice Varmint round, eh?) The 40 grain and even 50 grain are excellent too... with a little adjustment. While I think this is a very good rifle I believe the Lithgow would give it a run for its money. I’ve personally shot my Lithgow 22lr. up to 600m with constant hits. In saying that this rifle is more set up for that long range with all the features it offers where as the Lithgow was designed with Australian hunters in mind.

I dragged my old Lithgow through Australian bush for years... I had quite a few bolt action .22LRs as a kid, and the Lithgow was by far the most solid I owned.

Thank you for this very interesting video.
Yes, this is a very nice rifle and I am quite surprised by the negative comments you get.
This rifle is expensive, but, considering that a brand new ISSF smallbore match rifle is around $7000 - $7500 its price is almost reasonable. And ISSF match rifles come without scope, but with a very refined peep sight and tunnel.
Obviously, such prices have the potential to kill a discipline, especially when more affordable rifles become very hard to get, even second hand. But this is another story.
If you want to get the most of your rifle, using match grade ammo is not enough. You have to select specific batches that perform especially well with it. This can make A LOT of difference, and it is critical for an olympic or a world championship finale. Ammo manufacturers like Eley provide this kind of service, but specialized dealers do it too.
A last point, if you did not already read it, you may be interested in reading "small bore rifles - A guide for rimfire users", by C. Rodney James. He really has a lot to say about rimfire rifles and his book has been republished in color.

This. I have 2 slightly modified 10/22s that will shoot one ragged hole at 50 yards. 10 round groups usually result in 1 or 2 flyers however. Not to take anything away from the Post or the Vudoo.

My just bought Bergara B14r steel barrel precision 22lr rifle total cost with all taxes and fees and needed add ons:
    Rifle OTD: $1030
Made in USA 20 MOA base and rings $96
    Optics: 6-24×50 $363
    4 extra OEM mags $158
    DIY trigger job: $15
    Total cost
    to begin shooting: $1662
And I will be a very capable and serious contender in the Factory class od 22lr BR or in steel challenge matches.
22lr rimfire rifles like the Voodoo and Rim-X are awesome superbly accurate rifles but 9/10 people wishing to compete in 22lr and be competitive we just can't justify let alone afford to spend over $2500-$3k on just a rifle that has essentially no other use but competitive shooting
But for about 1/3 the cost (and admittedly alot of ammo sorting) I can achieve 90-95% of the accuracy of a Voodoo and do great in Factory class and steel challenge matches
I say this because I've seen B14r's and CZ 457 MTR's shooting in matches and be 90-95% as accurate as a VOODOO
Now if you are wanting to compete in the unlimited class then that 5-10% extra accuracy does make the difference
But like most of precision shooting be it archery HG or rifle it's much more the shooter than what's being shot.
An accomplished experienced competitive marksman (especially in high wind conditions) will with my 100% stock B1Rr with a basic scope easily outshoot a less experienced shooter using the best rifle and Optics money can buy.
Money can buy you only so much accuracy and certainly not enough on its own turn a mediocer shot into a good one or a good shooter into a great one. All high dollar rifles optics and ammo do is allow you to be the best you can be
Weather that best is mediocer or a serious contender is strictly and solely up to the individual themselves.
With the correct ammo I've seen first hand more than one stock steel barreled B14r shot in the mid to low 0.2's at 50 yards.

.22 cal is my fav. I have a Henry pump octagonal barrel rifle with a cheap but very good Scorpion scope. I consistently hit gophers at 100 yds. They are no bigger than a Coke can. I'm using hollow points travelling at 1260 fps and they are very lethal. Cheap and rewarding entertainment. I never before heard of shooting 22 lr at 1000 yds. That seems impossible. Good video. Thanks.

For that money I better see one hole. Last week my grandson was shooting sub .4 inch holes at 50 yds with a 10/22 takedown with a volquartson barrel (best being sub .3 for a 10 round group). Oh, and he had to shoot off 2x4 blocks because they wouldn't
allow using sandbags due to Covid restrictions (can't clean the bags between shooters).

.here's a tip -- buy bulk ammo , separate each cartridge by weight. the only thing that really varies is powder charge. it's been my experience that cartridges that weigh the same eliminates flyers. somewhat time consuming but really effective.

Plinkster I got something that you need to make a video on. Its a .22 barrel that screws in the place of a breach plug of a Knight Muzzle Loader. The .22 barrel insert is made of stainless and I think perhaps by Green Mtn?? Id have to look as its been a while since I even looked. And came with a bolt and was also sold by Knight for their Wolverine. It was before the days of Knight magnums. 20 years ago I could shoot the eyes out of squirrels off hand at 50 yards with a cheap fixed power 4x32 Simmons. I too am in Tn. Close to Morgan Anderson Cambell line. If you interested let me know id be glad to let you try it out. Or we could have a little contest :) Im sure others have them but I haven't found one online. Nor can I find out how many was made.
