They shoot anschutz rifles on Winter Olympics biathlon. Best winter event in my opinion. Skiing that hard and then having the breath control to put accurate shots on target while your heart is pumping that fast is always impressive to me.
So 1 correction, the 1710 is NOT the entry-level Anschutz. There are currently 3 main actions in the Anschutz line. The entry-level 64 action, the middle of the range (this is relative, we are talking about Anschutz here) 54 action, and the new top-end 54.30 action. There is also a square action that was designed to allow for "easily" swapping barrels but based on the Match 54 bolt. The 1710 uses the match 54 action (the same one used in most current Olympic 3-position rifles (until competitors move to the 54.3 actions). The base model version of the 1710 starts at around $2300. Add the $650 for the GRS stock, and you're looking at about $3000. I'm not saying it is/isn't worth it. That isn't for me to judge.
I love Anschutz rifles. I’ve had a 1712 Meistergrade that was everything you could dream about in a rimfire. I actually sold it to get a varmint rifle because I’d never been on a prairie dog hunt. Really hard to part with, but the Sako 223 is absolutely insane. I still have my 1720 D 22 magnum. Wow. What a gun. From 30-50 grain loads, it’s shoots them all very well. I’ve shot alot of groups that rivaled the groups of full match long rifle setups. I really miss the ole RWS magnum ammo. It was expensive, but worth every penny.
Last time I had to zero my Anschutz 1710 (old model) was in 1992. Helped that it has a Leupold scope and Apel mounts. Hundreds of rabbits later, it still outshoots me and can do one hole groups out to a long way (I generally shoot Eley Subs). I extensively check zero all my rifles every summer. My Anschutz .17HMR when first put together with a new Zeiss scope only require elevation and one click windage to be spot on. Now that is engineering...or pure luck. Loved the video, loved the rifle. Not the least surprised.
Funny… I have 2 Anshutz rifles, one a 54 match,(single shot) the other, a Savage/Anshutz 54 Sporter.(5 shot magazine). The sporter has the EXACT SAME problem with ejection. I wasn’t sure if the case was bouncing off the scope, of if the “beak” on the ejector was worn, or extractor tension. Still haven’t figured it out, but given that my sporter is decades old, where yours was new, makes me suspect the design of the extractor/ejector. Nonetheless, both are stunningly accurate, the match having about a 14oz trigger, while the sporter has the best ~2-2 1/2# “field” trigger I’ve felt. Breaks like an icicle, with almost imperceptible over travel. Marvelous rifles!!
Being a retired 3 position shooter and a (was) keen small game hunter, I've come to the conclusion that you only notice crappy, creepy, heavy triggers that roll off, not break. This being said, I've never noticed really good triggers until I've sat down and contemplated what was going on. An excellent review on a beautiful combination of steel, glass and laminated timber, BTW.
The Anschutz rifles are the best in the world for 22LR. This is the typical reaction to shooting one of these rifles. They are extremely well made and super accurate.
I know it's a 22 and powder chanel but their air rifles and precision just as amazing. It's all on shooter at that point, not the ergonomics , trigger or barrel or anything else.
I have an old biathlon match 64 specially ordered from anshutz in 1974 and it is the best 22LR I have shot. Trigger is amazing, and so is the accuracy and best of all its no very picky on ammo, it shoots very good even on cheap bulk ammo.
Happened upon this video because a guy at my range, practicing next to me, had a 22lr Anschutz. Not sure which model. Never heard of it before. Had to look it up. Yes, Im a novice, only shooting for 3 years. But.....he wins just about every 22 match we have. That day, he showed me his paper. Friggin 5 holes wrapped around a dime, all touching - on 7 different targets - at 50 yards. He kept saying it was the gun. Nice, modest guy. But holy cow, I had never seen them THAT close.
Great video as usual. I have waited to see your opinion on Anschutz. I have the 1761HB in .17HMR and it is amazing, I too am a trigger snob lol. I have a GRS on my Tikka CTR and love it soooo much I just pulled the pin on one for my Annie. I will warn everyone NOT to buy the Anschutz thumbhole stock version it is THE WORST stock out there, incredibly unintuitive and horribly uncomfortable. I recommend if you are looking at an Annie to buy order the barreled action alone or buy the standard cheaper hunter model stock and swap it out for a GRS you will not regret either purchase, and yes their trigger is that good !
This is one of those moments that proves that the rifle is at least half of the equation. A whole lot of folks out there think it's all operator, but you're not getting a sub four inch group at half that distance with a stock Mosin. The reality is that some guns are just better.
That looks like a 5018 trigger, adjustable from 180g up to 1000g I believe. Same trigger that's on my 64 MPR (which I got for $800 if you can believe it!), factory set at 195g (~6oz). Since that's a 54 action it should also be able to take the 5098 trigger which goes down to ~2oz. The Anschutz triggers are simply The Best.
I have a Marlin 2000. It's essentially a model 25 with a heavy barrel. It's a heavy sumbitch. Not a woods toter at all. Off the bench though, it's quite amazing with just factory Aguila 40gr super extra. I bet standard velocity loads would be even more impressive.
A .22 long rifle is very sensitive to even very light winds at 100 yards. Should have shot a couple more groups and talked about that fact Great review. I just love an accurate .22 rifle or pistol. I was fortunate to have s relative with a whole section of prairie dogs when growing up. Some would be amazed what you can do with an accurate .22. My two shining stars for it were a Browning T-bolt rifle and an H-D military High Standard pistol. Both extremely accurate. God bless all here.
I had that mdt scope base on my Anschutz 1710 and the cases deflect off it, every 7 or 8 rounds would hit it when ejecting and land back into the action and cause jams. You need to machine it out or find another base with part of it machined out. I have a custom made 40 MOA base on mine now and that resolved the problem
While it’s impressive it’s nothing new for Anshutz. For decades they’ve produced top notch rifles & the build quality is unsurpassed. With the exception of Sako I think Anshutz makes one of the best barrels!
My pap was made fun of back in the 70’s when he got a savage anzhutz because it was like 7 or 800$ awsome rifle it was the first rifle he ever put a scope on it was a Tack driver for sure !
@@MortenSchultzHunting thank you for spelling it correctly! I hate reading all those butchered versions of Anschütz! As for the trigger, looks like you have a two-stage trigger in it like the 1712 does. Factory usually sets them for just over two pounds total, with a bit over a pound for stage one and a little under a pound for stage two. If you haven’t used one before you are meant to pull in the first stage until you hit the wall and then hold it there while you go about aiming, and then when you’re on target you pull the rest of the way through stage two. It is very good for standing offhand shooting as in silhouette matches.
Oh WOW that's so sweet shooting. I'm JEALOUS. But I do have a Norinco NS 522 with a heavy hammer forged barrel, very nice walnut stock nicely inletted and a FANTASTIC TRIGGER. UNFORTUNATELY I've not shot it much YET only indoor range 25yds. I want to get outdoors and shoot at 100yds.🤨😯😉👍
HI from Europe, Anschutz are recognized as one of the most accurate .22 rifles you can buy..Just a few points that may be of interest to you all.1, They do not need any shooting in, they are good to go from the box..2, They all come with an 11mm rim fire, air rifle dovetail, machined into the action so there is no need to mount another rail on them..3, Use a good quality scope and normal 11mm rings . there in no need to use a 30 moa one peace rail for 100 yards shooting.. The one piece rail is the reason your cases are bouncing back into the ejector port.4, Anschutz have double extractors for reliability , they eject vertically ,not normally a problem if you have a scope mounted the one piece base is the problem..5,The triggers are excellent but thy get messed up if you do not adjust them correctly they are complicated because they have many adjustment..6, Ammo They like cci and federal, but eley and some German brands bring out the best in them, never found hi velocity to give the best groups..Hope that helps fellow shooters ..Protect that second amendment please..
I thank God I don’t have the common ejection issues with many Anschutz rifles that I have read about on “Rimfire Central” and other forums. As I watched the Plinkster I was thinking what a beautiful chasis I wonder if this expensive 1710 will have an ejection issue and that is exactly what happened over and over again. 🙄😳ps ( WHY CAN’t ANSCHUTZ ACKNOWLEDGE AND SOLVE THIS EJECTION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY YEARS )?
@@jimhamilton3544 Hi Jim thank you for your reply..If this is the problem that all the forums are talking about then the solution is simple.Do not use .the full length scope mount bases.. The cases are deflected back down into the port..You can see from this review if you are inconsistent or lazy moving the bolt rearwards you will obviously get soft and strong ejection .this is not a semi auto.. You will also see the case is not left in the chamber so the double extractors are doing there job..The case is bouncing back down..I have many years experience shooting Anschutz bolt action rifles and many thousands of rounds with and without scopes mounted on them ..To each there own as they say ..They are not cheap rifles in Europe and the triggers and actions in these rifles hold the majority of world class competitions . Anschutz would have changed the design if it was a problem but it is not..
@@jimhamilton3544 correct. Scope or rail, either one blocks the ridiculously weak and erratic ejection in some Anschutz. People all over the world have had problems and nothing has ever been done. Anyone who has spent time on the net looking for a solution can plainly see all the comments out there but the die hards still deny there is a problem. Mine is OK now with peeps leaving the port unobstructed but the cases barely make it out a lot of the time. I will probably never buy another one.
I bought my first Anshutz at 64 years old because a high school buddy shot one in tournament with peep sights before he was in high school and he told how accurate they were so eventually I got one.
I recently sold my 64 Anschutz. It was in a beautiful thumbhole walnut stock I was in love with it when I first got it. My 64 was also lazy ejecting spent rounds but I did some stoning on the main extractor elbow and corrected that. I bought a RimX after the Anschutz and put it in a KRG Bravo and started shooting it more than the rest of my rifles and started looking for a chassis and found out no one made anything for the 64. The thumbhole just didn't fit me I added a cheek pad and because it was a skeletonized stock the rear bag didn't fit it too good and it was also very thin in the butt portion of the stock. If I could have gotten a stock like this I would have kept it please don't tell me they make one for a 64.
What brand of ammo are you shooting? Anschutz do very well with RWS ammo and when you find the right lot number it will cut the same hole at 100 yards. There are more Vudoos where I shoot in East Tennessee but I'll stay with my Anschutz. I think both are excellent rifles and the difference is the optics and shooters.
cool to are that grin on about every shot...I'm guessing that the combination of stock, trigger, action, and "the usual" outrageous Anschûtz accuracy, just has to feel damned fine!
Had a chance to shoot Anschutz a bit in the late '70s. It would be interesting to see some 50ft small bore targets shot and scored. Be bold and use an aperture sight.
The extraction problem is very common in Anschutz rimfire rifles. I have owned several and they all seem to do it. Their Centrefires seem to be just fine. Dont know why they haven't done anything about it. Having said that i wouldn't own anything else.
If you could elaborate on the extraction/ejection mishaps, I think everyone here would appreciate what was going on. As an owner of a 1712, I have had that happen also, but it is a result of not pulling the bolt back brisk enough. Which is easy to have happen when down on the gun on the bench.
Anschutz has had extraction issues for years with their 64 actions. I have never had extraction issues with their 54 actions. OTOH the extraction issue is an easy fix.
@@joed3264 Looks like the round bounce back in, it extracts fine. Same issue can happen with the CZ, I soon learned the finger-flip when extracting (unlock, then snap it back with the finger). Gives the case a good velocity.
Anshutz is I believe the first choice for Olympic shooting and even the .177 rifles in HS JROTC was the rifles we shot back in the late 80's, oh and yah, team wise we did good, individually was always top 3 overall including NRA sectionals
I HAVE A REQUEST, with you being such a .22 connoisseur, I would like to know how to start looking into making upgrades for better performance parts from a stock Ruger 10/22
It’s typical for an Anschutz rifle. Trust me it will shoot much better than that get some good ammo, wind flags and a better rest setup and you will really be amazed. The trigger will go lighter if you adjust it. The extraction issue is also common, Anschutz rifles liked to be treated rough if you slide the bolt back slow you will get that.
Does Anschutz still press fit their barrels? I remember that was the only drawback, along with weak ejection. They imo were slow to add threaded barrels as well.
Are you tested old Sako 22/42 Trg offcourse its not rimrifle but trigger.... 2 stage and its wery smoot and crisp... i but this trigger my sako quad range and some others mods i made its like mini trg now.... My rimfire. It is trainer for trg now. and its is now sub moa rimfire also ;)

Would have loved to see what ammo. My CZ is mostly limited by what I can afford to put through it.
@@jmkhenka I have to use the same method with my Savage MK2.
Anshutz is I believe the first choice for Olympic shooting and even the .177 rifles in HS JROTC was the rifles we shot back in the late 80's, oh and yah, team wise we did good, individually was always top 3 overall including NRA sectionals
Beautiful stock....
Good video. What kind of ammo are you using?
I have a model 64 mp. I've had ejection issues since I've owned it from new. It is a tack driver though.
I think I’m going to get this stock. I’m a MDT guy but I really like these GRS stocks
I HAVE A REQUEST, with you being such a .22 connoisseur, I would like to know how to start looking into making upgrades for better performance parts from a stock Ruger 10/22
IMO the best rifles made are Anschutz,
I own a 1964 Savage Anschutz that is still amazingly accurate.
Awesome setup
It’s typical for an Anschutz rifle. Trust me it will shoot much better than that get some good ammo, wind flags and a better rest setup and you will really be amazed. The trigger will go lighter if you adjust it. The extraction issue is also common, Anschutz rifles liked to be treated rough if you slide the bolt back slow you will get that.
Wondering 🤔 who would treat a $3000-$6000+ Anschutz rifle rough 😵💫🙄
tried once anschutz with leopold , amazing...
I love my Anschutz!
You kidding me. Those are well in the $4000 range. 😳 Be great if Anschutz could make 10/22 barrels.
Agreed.
10/22 barrels are made of poo.
Australia
Impressive grouping!!
Real nice rig 😎👍!
You forgot to mention what ammo you were shooting. Inquiring minds need to know 🤔?! 😊
The wind picked up for the German guy
Plink I would love to see you film with a scope cam!
Minute of squirrel eyeball!
One beautiful rifle... spectacular grouping.
Does Anschutz still press fit their barrels? I remember that was the only drawback, along with weak ejection. They imo were slow to add threaded barrels as well.
love to see this setup in .405 Barrett
What ammo were you shooting?
I hope mine shoots as good. Mine was put together to be a bench rest rifle.
what. a beautiful. stock
I competed in college rifle shooting with a 2013. Can’t beat a more accurate rifle then an Anschutz.
love my GRS on my KID 10/22 build
Awesome gun. Awesome t shirt pinkster. Can't seem to find it. Where did you get it from? Thanks again

With my shooting style I want one of these stocks for my 10/22.
Before i see this video you never want to give IT back .

What ammo?
Hey Plinkster, how can we get you over to Asheville NC to shoot Smallbore Silhouettes with us? I've seen you shoot and would love to have your opinion on the sport!!!
I got the same stock on my 243 X-Bolt .
🖖🏻🇫🇷😎🇫🇷😎🇫🇷🖖🏻
Every time you guys shoot and then lift your heads off the stock I die inside.
Off subject. Was that sheep or lambs i could hear in the background, when you were shooting?
Hi there, can you please do a review on ANSCHUTZ 1761 please please please
Interesting, what ammo were you shooting?
HaHA! You made your buddy shoot the wind.
Nice gun, what silencer is used in the video?
How much does this same rifle setup cost because I want one and where to get it? I would like to have this exact same setup. Please let me know.
