  • In this video we take a look at the Henry Repeating Arms 22 magnum lever action rifle. Setting out a target at 50 yards, we test six types of ammunition for accuracy while using a chronograph. (Chronograph results posted at the end of the video.) We also test the trigger pull and compare the ammunition result.
The 22 WMR ammunitions tested are the: Remington 40 grain JHP, Winchester Varmint HV 30 grain Polymer Tip V-Max, Hornady 30 grain V-Max, CCI Maxi-Mag 40 grain JHP, Federal 50 grain JHP, and Norma 40 grain JHP.

VERY well done test,my fellow Henry.22 mag. owner. I too like mine very much. This video has been very informative. I’ve been using those CCI rounds with good results. I’m thinking now about checking out some of the ammo you just tested. I’m thinking about possibly trying a’peep’ site. Any thoughts? I also like your sling addition. Thanks for your very helpful and entertaining video. Keep up the excellent work and stay safe.

Thank you for the kind words Ms. St. Andrews. The Henry rimfire firearms are very accurate once you figure out the ammunition it likes. Take care happy shooting and stay safe!

Forgot to comment on the Peep sight. I've had good luck with the Skinner Peep sight. Used one on my Marlin 39a and liked it so much I bought one for my Henry. I'll be taking it out soon to test it and will post a video. Thanks again for watching Brandy!

I have the same rifle as you. I also found the Federal 50 grain the most accurate. Another I found accurate is the CCI 40grain target load with solid tip bullets.

Thanks for watching! I was happy the Federal did well as it is a loading I would like to carry in that rifle. I'll need to go and shoot some CCI 40 fmj and see how it groups.

Beautiful little rifle. When fed what it likes it's incredibly accurate especially for a lever action 22 Mag.
Give the Winchester Dynapoint a try. It's slow like the 50 gr Fed but in many guns its very accurate. It has a copper washed bullet like the 22LR and will still expand at 100 yards.

Thanks for the heads up Frank! I'll try to get my hands on some Dynapoints. I was very happy with its performance. But I cleaned it up and put it back in my F.I.L.'s house. He's been known to shoot it out of his kitchen window at different critters.

@@texmexshoots Check out Buckeye Ballistics. He's a great guy with tons of ballistic content on everything from 22LR, 22 Mag to pistol cals and shotguns. + he uses real ballistic gel. Knox gelatin. He just completed a series on 22 Mag in gel at 50 & 100 yards and the results are amazing!
Yes, I do a bit of backyard safari too. The 22 Mag is great for critter control.

Cool Tex Mex! I shot my little Henry H001 22LR just last week. I had to adjust the sights just a bit, but seeing the scope on your magnum there makes me want to scope mine. I appreciate the video as it is good info and took some time and effort to put it together.

Thanks Cervus! I was just happy to get out of the city and have some fun shooting. I was happy it liked the Federal 50 grain ammo since I might use it on some bigger critters. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. About to watch your hunting vid.

excellent video: clean, clear, crisp. i pretty much only buy cci rimfire ammo these days. i have a henry 22lr lever-action carbine, but a 22wmr carbine would be an excellent all-around survival piece. happily subscribed.

Thanks for the kind words JTNS! Henry know how to make some accurate barrels for their rifles. I had one of the early big loop lever actions 22lr Henry carbines but ended up giving it to a friend to teach his kids how to shoot. I loved that rifle and shot a lot of 22 shorts through it too.
      Take care and stay safe!
