Thank you for all these videos, I am moving to NZ in July on the new 3 year visa for brits and basically winging it. Nice to see what I am getting myself into!
The Red Barn was the Glenorchy railway station. The line ran from it to the end of the wharf. We tramped (hiked/walked) the Rees Dart track Easter 1968. There was nothing at Glenorchy. The road from Glenorchy up the east side of the Dart River crossed a stream called the Jordan River and ended at a place called Paradise.
Paradise was originally called Paradise Duck Flat. The Duke of York (later George VI of England) stayed at an old mansion nearby called Arcadia and said - this is Paradise - and the name stuck.
We were there in December time. Road trips crossover and around the South Island. Sure, it looks like paradise. We only had 10 days to view as much as we could. Thanks for sharing and remembering the places. Regards South Africa 🇿🇦.
Your'e videos are great, you show so much of every place you visit., we love you guys, so natural and funny. Enjoy the rest of your time in New Zealand. Deb and Wal from a little town called Eketahuna in the Lower North Island.
Seen a number of your videos and food plays a major role (pies, ice cream, bagels etc 😊) Have you tried Whittaker's chocolate yet? My wife loved it when we visited NZ and is gutted we can't get it in the UK.
Haha I eat it everyday actually! Basically we eat the 95% cocoa one. On special occasions we would have some of the dairy milk one too. I mean it’s just like the dairy milk in the uk but dairy milk is horrible in Nz 😂
My husband and l are planning a south island trip . Were from Christchurch and freedom camping. You ve both given us great ideas of where to go Thank you
Looks like you didn't quite get to Paradise, but you got close! Paradise is an actual place just over the other side of Mt Arthur near Diamond Lake. It was where some of the Lothlórien scenes were filmed for Lord of the Rings. It's only about 6 km north east of where you camped by the bridge.
Can I ask where the SC site was by the river bed near Glenorchy? Fantastic video of our gorgeous country. Thank you. Lord of the Rings was filmed in many places throughout the country, as were many other movies. The Last Samurai amongst them with Tom Cruise. Xena Warrior Princess also. Scenes for Avatar. So many.
Aotearoa New Zealand has the happiest cows, their milk makes the best ice cream and cheese. The only thing that beats NZ scenery is all people who appreciate being here. That includes you two, keep having a great time.
@@parkiwi4787 Ummm hate to burst your bubble,, the name Aotearoa is relatively new in Te Reo... it is most definitely not 900 years old.... Te Reo as they say is an organic living language and has and is being added to every year..
Yeah I’m with you Mado, I’d enjoy this sort of place more than Queenstown 👌 Queenstown is good in short doses 🙂 Looking forward to the next hiking video!
Those mountains just don't look real. They are such a stunning backdrop, over the aquamarine water. Hope the weather has remained fine and not too much rain around the place. Is the South Islands' weather similar to Germany and Ireland in their summer?
South Island av temp would be around 22-23 degrees. This year however there has been dozens of days above 30 degrees and with a very thin ozone layer above you get fried very quick😂
not sure about riverbed danger but walking on wet rocks can be - recently slipped and put my hand out to break the fall - broken wrist, aah! Was told afterwards to not put hand out but to break a fall with the arm fleshy part = wish I had known b4.
One more OMG down 100 to go Yes Mado you are right, it might be sunny where You are but raining 50 miles away at the head if the river. Glen would save you ,so not to worry 😂
New Zealand got it's name from Able Tasman from the Netherlands and as you may have noticed it even looks a lot like Europe I mean a lot of the trees are of European origin good examples can be found in our city parks where you'll find the majority of trees are oak trees sad to say any local trees were ripped out completely. However just recently the original flora and fauna is finally being reintroduced.

an early welcome to you .. Nau Mai..... keep in mind July is Mid winter ...... i hope its a positive 3 years for you here..
🟡🟡🟡........😍
Definitely need to let Mado win once Glen, just to keep the tranquility !

Hi, I did the Rees Dart in the 70s and there was practically nothing at Glenorchy then either. A pub, a school and a few houses from memory.
You both kiwis now that's why you feel so great going around showing off our beautiful country

Outstanding Glenn & mado
Always enjoy yr content
My son was a hiking guide on the Routeburn Track before Covid
The possible reason the water is a little cloady at the top of the lake is because the water coming into the lake is snow melt .

2.20 in we usually charge for the clouds to look xtra cute, free to you. just kidding, enjoy the beauty.😄
Looking forward to your next hike video, esp if its like your last 😅
But please be careful, mado nearly slipping over the side of that hill 😰

We were there a week ago, although sunny it was really windy. You should have gone for a walk to the lagoon, it’s beautiful and such an easy walk

Its NEW ZEALAND! NOT aeoteroa!!!
@@Samantha-xr4mx It is Aotearoa and was 500 years before some Dutch tosser named it after part of Holland.

@@vsksf It's believed Kupe named Aotearoa after his canoe. No written language simply known by.
@@parkiwi4787 “it’s believed” is a rather casual endorsement and from what I have read and studied has little ( if no) substance
Yeah I’m with you Mado, I’d enjoy this sort of place more than Queenstown 👌 Queenstown is good in short doses 🙂 Looking forward to the next hiking video!
Hope you found the place called Paradise in the Glenorchy area
Mado, connect 4 is both offence and defence at the same time.. hehe! and sometimes it depends on who starts first.
Those mountains just don't look real. They are such a stunning backdrop, over the aquamarine water.

Your German girlfriend is quite correct Glen , the river can come up quite quickly . 😊😊
One more OMG down 100 to go
Yes Mado you are right, it might be sunny where
You are but raining 50 miles away at the head if the river.
Glen would save you ,so not to worry 😂
We say kilometres not miles
You missed the Glenorchy lagoons which are even more beautiful
for some reason the connect 4 just makes more sense to the male brain haha
the best wine region. Kawarau is around there somewhere you can visit the AJ Hackett original bungee jump Yes invented by a kiwi
Notice how European New Zealand sounds? And we live along way from Europe 😅

Sad that thousands of NZrs are financially unable to see their own country.
Pfft! Name for us the country where every citizen has the financial means to travel about their own country? Monaco, perhaps??
Harden up mado.
Help me medam please 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
