You're too kind John! Would love to do the Earnslaw Burn again in summer. Apparently the glacier turns into hundreds of waterfalls and it looks absolutely beautiful
Definitely a good one! Would loved to have done it in summer as well. The glacier at the end turns into 100 streaming waterfalls, which would have been stunning to see
Stunning... I wish I had the physical strength to do this hike. I just can't get over the beauty of Earnslaw Burn, it's so spectacular words can't do it justice! And that rainbow 😍!
I reckon you could do it if you did a bit of training and just took it easy! Doing it as an overnighter in spring/summer means you can take as long as you want with no time pressure. I would love to go back in Summer and see all the waterfalls coming off the glacier
Have done the Kepler recently and enjoyed it. This video is very well made and gave new ideas to try. And New Zealand back-country is just gorgeous and came through nicely in the video.
I've done the Rees/Dart crossing a couple of times (once in each direction). So I've effectively circled that mountain twice, but never did the track up to the glacier. Well done, and, of course, another fantastic video, guys.
The forest section is deceptively long/hard, but well worth it. We really wanted to return in Summer to see the glacier turn into a thousand waterfalls, but never got the chance to make it happen
The beach forest is indeed gorgeous, and it is also very hard to capture that beauty with a camera. I guess people just have to go and see it for themselves ❤
Thank you Sam and Kev! Weather turned out great, couldn't have asked for anything more. The moody weather on the 2nd day really added to the atmosphere haha
Thank you Paul! Loved the track. We would be interested in doing it in Summer and seeing Earnslaw Glacier transformed into a hundred waterfalls. We've seen some photos and it looks amazing!
Me and my partner loved doing this hike along with others like Lake Unknown and some great walks looking for something for adventurist, we are thinking of doing the Gilliespe next anything else you’d recommend that advanced and at least 2 nights? Thanks love the videos!
Gillespie Pass is great, we highly recommend that one. You could do the Rees-Dart track, but we haven't done it ourselves yet. Greenstone & Caplea in that area isn't challenging, but it's an enjoyable walk through the valleys. Welcome Flat Hut, French Ridge, Cascade Saddle, Mueller Hut and Breast Hill Track are all great. Tons of overnight hikes up in the Khahurangi near Nelson that are fantastic like Mount Patriarch, Mount Owen and the Tablelands. In Nelson Lakes you have Lake Angelus Hut and the Travers Sabine Circuit Anywhere in NZ is great really 😅
This is epic!! Strongly recommend the Rees Dart track on the other side of the hill when you get the chance!! I did the Murchison gorges hike the other week in Kalbarri, love the content can't wait to get back to NZ!!
Thank you Sam! 🙏❤️ The Rees Dart track is definitely on our radar, it's just finding the time to do it. We're on our way to the Routeburn right now ☺️ That's awesome you got to do the Murchison River Gorge hike the other week! It's definitely one of the hidden gems in WA
If you take any step, no matter how small it is, towards achieving your dreams then you will surely find the right path and reach the abundance that lies in store for you! You got a new subscriber and watched the whole video😊❤
Wow! Another amazing walk so beautifully captured - thanks again for sharing. We'll definitely investigate this one for our next Queenstown trip. Our planned December trip (Kepler & Routeburn) isn't happening due to flight cancellations so we're pining for some more NZ time. Hopefully we'll reschedule for 2022. Thanks again for the channel - the content is fantastic!
Thank you so much for the continued support Alan, it really means a lot! 🙏 We're so sorry to hear your NZ trip has had to be cancelled, we know that feeling all too well. You may get an opportunity in early 2022 to come over; it does sound like everything will be opening in NZ and AU. There should be lots of spots available on the Great Walks as well as there has been tons of cancellations with Auckland still in lockdown. We just finished the Routeburn Track yesterday, which was awesome! We are doing the Kepler over Christmas. Thanks again
Wow I could watch that several times, so nicely captured and love the helpful tips at the end too, thanks so so much for sharing!. Did you take crampons with you too?
Thank you Sian, that really means a lot! 🙏 No crampons for us. The forest section is too low for snow and the valley section is relatively flat. We didn't touch snow/ice till the very end
Really beautifully shot and edited! I live in Perth and you guys inspired me so much. I still can't believe your channel is not more popular. Your each videos needs to be seen more than millions view! Just one thing, it's probably just me so completely fine if you ignore it, to me, music of all your videos too loud and distracting. Especially in this one, in front of ice you said so quiet, but music was so loud. It would be really cool if there was no music at all on that moment. I love to hear more nature sound. Anyway, I'm really loving all the New Zealand videos. Your cinematography and editing is so much improved! Good job! Have a good weekend! 👍
Cheers Keon, great to hear from you! Appreciate your comments about the music. You're not alone, because this is the third comment in the last week or two we've had mentioning it hahaha Definitely something I'm working on! Still trying to find a nice balance between the music and the ambient sound. If I have them at a similar level, they kind of fight with each other and it just sounds messy. I find the music really important to our videos, so I do feature it quite a bit, but I agree, more ambient sounds makes sense. I've recently upgraded our camera microphone, so hopefully that'll record the ambience a bit louder than our old mic Thanks again for the support, it really means a lot
No worries, will do! We always have more info on the hike in the video description, but we''ll start to include the month we hiked it in. Thanks for the idea 🙌
We did this near the end of winter, so probably September or October? We use Loawa Renegade boots which are great, but I'd get their boots that have less stitching on the sides
@@ChrisandDanya Thanks. Planning to do this with my wife and 11yo son. Not sure I'll camp overnight. Too heavy packing camping gear from Perth to Queenstown. I'll probably do a day hike and start early at dawn.
It is a great hike, but I do feel I need to heed some warnings. It is a really hard hike, especially as a day hike. You're probably looking at ~24km with a lot of elevation gain. The forest section is long and often not cleared in places, so will be slow going. Also keep in mind, the year we did this had a very mild winter, so not much snow around. If this year has a better winter, then you may not be able to do this until closer to the end of October. Please make sure you check Avalanche warnings for the area before heading in 🙏 Enjoy!
At 10.46 next to that waterfall on the left there used to be a wooden platform you could sleep on 35 years ago, it does not appear to be there Is it gone? I have heard that helicopters go there , is this true from your research?
We don't remember seeing a wooden platform to be honest! We'll have to take a look if we head up that way again It is true helicopters head up there in Summer. They land by the glacier and guests can get out and checkout the glacier + waterfalls
Seeing how safety conscious NZ is, I'm surprised how you had to stumble across those fallen trees, and along those rubbish track's,,and stream's,Nice video though,,Come on DOC A into G guy's,,
It is a DOC track, but it's well known that it's not really maintained by DOC all that much. It's a tough area to get into, so I can't really fault them. It adds to the experience 😅
I enjoyed your video. But I get confused when you use meters and kilometers in your description. I can't understand why other countries don't use miles and feet like here in the USA which is much easier.
We used the Metric system because that is what is used in NZ where the trail is located. The Metric system is used almost world wide, while the Imperial system is mainly used by the USA
@@tomhu1745 The metric system is much easier to understand as everything is a multiple of 10. The imperial system is literally only fully used by 3 countries on the planet. USA, Liberia and Myanmar, with UK having a mix of the two.
so good, great footage and video production. very inspirational, and i can't wait to do the hike myself in the future. thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and thank you for the kind words!
I didn't think the views could be more spectacular than those from your trek to Mueller Hut. Turns out I was wrong. Thank you again.
You're too kind John!
Would love to do the Earnslaw Burn again in summer. Apparently the glacier turns into hundreds of waterfalls and it looks absolutely beautiful
One arduous trek. The forest is intense. I'm sure it's longer than they say it is 😅 incredibly rewarding though
We need to go back to see it in summer!
Haven't even heard of this one, but will add it to the list. Gorgeous scenery. Thanks for the video.

Great hike

Thanks for watching Bertus! 🙏

100% agree!
Great video. Good to see you got some sunshine on the first day and a bit of rain to get the waterfalls going on day two.
Thank you Sam and Kev!

klasik !
Beautiful walk and nicely shot, thanks for sharing the experience and info.
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Beautiful video, love the music, the hike looks very challenging but majestic. Merry Christmas to you both.
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄🎁☃️
The forest section is long and challenging in parts, but the hike is very beautiful and definitely worth it
Thank you for sharing your adventures. All those fallen trees looked time consuming to climb over.
This track isn't as maintained by DOC, but it's all part of the experience!
Good one guys, nice to see people getting on one of the amazing tracks
Thank you Paul!

Yep, did it in early October👍
Don't think there were any sandflies; too cold for them I think!

Definitely worth it to head to Glenorchy regardless!
There are lots of good hikes you can do in the area if you can't tackle Earnslaw Burn
