Have you tried these yet?? Way better than what you get at a restaurant!! Onion Ring Recipe: Homemade Onion Rings Recipe - Laura Vitale - Laura in the Kitchen Episode 606
It's a myth that fried foods have tons of fat. If the temperature of the oil is high enough, most of it won't be absorbed into the food. Cooks Illustrated did a demonstration on this. Coconut oil is the healthiest oil to use.
Mary P. I don't have time to get into too much detail about it right now, but coconut oil used to be considered unhealthy (when they had only tested it in its hydrogenated not extra virgin form). It has since been found that it has a medium chain fatty acid that moves into the mitochondria without the need for carnitine transport which boosts overall metabolism. It's also high in lauric acid which is an immune booster. This was first discovered by Dr. Weston Price when he noticed that South Pacific Islanders were lean and had a low rate of heart attack despite having a high concentration of fat in their diet. The fat came from coconut. This is becoming more commonly known now and if you look in a health food store, coconut oil is even being sold in capsules as a supplement. If you want to know more about this, here's an article that cites scientific papers www.westonaprice.org/know-your-fats/new-look-at-coconut-oil Extra virgin olive oil is very good for you when unheated, but you shouldn't use it for high fat frying because it's not very heat stable.
Laura. You have helped my cooking SO much. Now, I love to cook and spend time in the kitchen! I always watch hour videos and they're such an inspiration.
Always liked onion rings with ketchup myself, but I also like them with a good Buttermilk ranch dip or fry dip (similar to thousand island). Honey mustard is good too. :-)
I've never made it myself, but if you were to look up honey mustard sauce, I'm sure you will find some good recipe's that would work really well providing you can get yellow mustard were you live? It's very good with onion rings and other fried foods, sandwiches, etc.
oh my goodness, that looks soooooooo soooooo good! I think I will select a few Laura in the Kitchen "naughty recipes" and make them for a reward. I've stuck to my new goal of eating healthy, exercising and losing over 20lbs for more than 100 days, I think I deserve it!! I've also adopted your rule about baked goods and most other sweet things - I only eat baked goods that I've made myself. It's so much healthier and rewarding!
Laure--another recipe I will be trying--Thank you. Don't let the health nuts get to you. You are doing a great job bring us recipes that we are excited about. We know they are not for everyday--to bad some of your fans can't grasp that. Love you Laura.
I make an easy chipotle aioli that people might like for onion rings. Mix about 1/4 cup of blended chipotles and 1/3 cup honey into 3 cups of mayo. Squeeze some onto a slice of thin crust chicken pizza and it'll make you want to slap your grandma.
HAHA! Your reactions always crack me up! Thanks for the tip on not using Olive Oil. I use that for most of my cooking and you described exactly what happens when I try to fry with it.
Got to try your way. Also wanted to ask. Can u make a Blooming Onion. & no hot spice.. I would love to find a good recipe for it. & u cook so good. I figure u would be the one to ask. Love all your foods u make. Such a very good cook u r. Thanks so much, Jackie
If u aren't on food network you need to be!! Your amazing at cooking!! I'm pretty young but I love to cook!!! And I hope I become an awesome one just like you:)
It's really good!!!! Sounds like you put stuff as bloomin' onion so I'm sure they taste really good too!! My fiancé is on deployment right now but once he comes home, I will make some!!! I just can't wait to make them for him
Laura - Great Recipe.....I was wondering if you have tried dipping your onions in flour before dipping them in your onion batter? Just curious because as a line cook we do this, and it seems to give the batter something to stick to...just a suggestion...but I am going to try this recipe out....thanks..
Omg I think this recipe is better. The recipe I use to make onion rings is so much work nd its always messy. Thank yu Laura ^-^ I'll try this recipe tomorrow!
I like them dipped in "Fry Sauce". It's quite popular here in the western states (particularly Utah). Mix mayo & ketchup together & add a little splash of dill pickle juice...this gives it "zing"! Yummy with fries & also onion rings!!
Yummy will make this and specially my kids will love it. We like dipping it in ranch and ketchup. Laura I wonder could this bather be used with zucchinis ?
Have you tried these yet?? Way better than what you get at a restaurant!!

In south Louisiana we have a dip we call... "Crawfish dip", it's basically ketchup, mayo, tiny bit of mustard, and Cajun seasoning (Tony's is my fav).
+Victoria Boudreaux That sounds pretty good... Think I'm going to have to stop by Jungle Jim's to see if they have that, or make my own.

Omg I think this recipe is better. The recipe I use to make onion rings is so much work nd its always messy. Thank yu Laura ^-^ I'll try this recipe tomorrow!
Hey Laura! Just wondering what your trick is to get the batter to stay on the onion better? Mine seemed a bit runny but tasted delish!
My guess is that you used too much buttermilk or too little flour. If your batter is runny, just add flour.
I like them dipped in "Fry Sauce". It's quite popular here in the western states (particularly Utah). Mix mayo & ketchup together & add a little splash of dill pickle juice...this gives it "zing"! Yummy with fries & also onion rings!!
Wow that's awesome! Your videos really inspire me to learn how to cook :)
Hi, does this recipe work without the egg? My nephew is allergic. Thank you.

do you have to use butter milk can you use normal milk
I might make these tomorrow because it's late at night right now but I can't wait
what can I use instead of the butter milk
That is so good and crunchy. I love your yellow shirt.
Finally! Thank you Laura!
Is there a recipe for the bread crumb coating or a beer batter on her website?
