    THANKS!! I am a father of 6, and these hashbrowns were a hit! Huge Sunday breakfasts are my thing, and I've been cooking store bought hashbrowns because I couldn't get mine crispy. These are better than I had hoped! And I LOVE the individual serving idea! WAY cheaper than buying them at the store too! thanks again!

    Amazing! I'm an 11 year old that loves to cook, and I love your videos Laura! I made this by myself for my parents as a surprise, and it was DELICIOUS! My parents loved it, too! I halved the recipe and it made one for each person in my family c:
    The first hash brown I made- Forgot to add salt ;p Slightly burned, but was still delicious.
    Second hash brown- AMAZING! It was perfect! ;D
    Third hash brown- Same as the second one
    Thank you Laura, I will try this recipe again!

    I just tried this with 50% rinsed grated potatoes and 50% unwashed (but squeezed to remove excess moisture) grated potatoes. I also cooked them in olive oil but with a knob of butter. DELICIOUS. Crunchiness plus lots of potato flavour. I left the skins on the potatoes too. Sooooo good.

    I have been making hash browns my entire life and more than likely had a problem with them sticking to the pan. I love hash browns so much I just dealt with cleaning the pan. I saw how important washing them first is here and a couple other videos and I'm glad to have this problem solved, just wish I had more sense to do it 40 years ago. They not only get crispy because you get rid of the starch but THEY DON'T STICK to the pan. I wash them multiple times until the water is clear and dry with a towel. Thanks.

      @David8024667 8 лет назад +7

      +latina7292 Exactly!!! I was thinking the same thing when I bought some hash browns from McDonald's a few days ago. They were NOT crispy at all. It was basically mush. And, usually, they are crispy there. But, yeah, I was really upset about that whole thing and should have taken them back to Mickey D's and asked for some new ones (ones that WERE actually crispy).

      You have to squeeze all the water out of the potato whether you rinse it or not. I don't use egg whites nor flour. They bind when the first side is golden brown and crispy. Don't be shy about ingredients. They're your hash browns add whatever you like.

    This looks amazing, I like having potato cakes because they are a little smoother but I can do ether way. The potato cakes are just make with cold mashed potatoes, make me into patties and put flour on them. They are the BOMB when you get them super crispy and then have the soft potatoes in the middle!!!

      I do have a question do these hash browns before you cook them fries good because I love hash browns every morning but to have to make him like that would take quite a bit of time out of my day when I get up but it's freezing them before you cook them or freeze them after you cook them. I know a lot about cooking but if you don't know ask PS I love your recipe and I love seeing every once in a while running across to you keep up the good work hope to hear reply happy New Year 2020

    These look like my mom's Jamaican salt fish fritters.. The day after my dad makes his salt fish and dumplings recipe (which is just tomatoes, onions, salted cod, scallions, one red pepper all finely chopped with a little salt, pepper, and thyme) my mom takes the left overs with a about a cup and a half and flour and a small amount of water, all mixed together. The concept for cooking is the exact same, but it tastes heavenly! :)

    Those Hash browns do look and sound like the real real.
    But for myself. I had a breakfast in New Zealand 20 years ago at a place called the Kauri Bar. And they served a Hash Brown... that still haunts me....
    par boiled russet potato's, mashed with onion and butter. Possible binder. never net the cook. and then fried till crispy, on each side.
    So light brown crisp on each side and creamy potato onion goodness inside but not fully blended, still with a little bite.
    Regards A Picky Guy

    When I make them, I shred the potato and put them right in the hot oil. I grind some salt and pepper on them while the 1st side is cooking. I don't peel the potato and I don't rinse the shreds(I'm lazy). They turn out awesome every time. Don't take my word for it. Get some taters, a shredder and make yourself some hash browns. Experiment with some other methods/ingredients. One pleasant surprise I recently discovered is I grated some carrot into my HBs. Yum. HBs do take a while to cook.

    • @alwaysdisputin9930
      @alwaysdisputin9930 7 лет назад

      Reading the recipe won't help encourage her to be more concise. This whole video can be summed up as:
      grate potato + shallot; dry with potato ricer; add 1 egg white & season; fry for 6 min per side in shallow oil.
      It shouldn't take 8 min.

    I tried using a ricer to squeeze out the water. It works great, but in the end I found using a dish towel is easier and gets out just as much water. The ricer only holds a small amount of potato, so you need to do a little at at time. With a towel you can do a lot at the same time.

      Update: This morning I used a salad spinner. This is my new favorite method. It gets out most of the water, requires very little physical exertion, and you can do a large quantity at one time. And as a bonus, I didn't get a dish towel dirty.

      You want the recipe? Go to the written one. She's the one cooking and eating it not you.
      Not to mention its her channel, you have no right to tell her what she can/can't say. People now...

    Of course you have a ricer, you're Italian! This was a great recipe. I think the egg white and starch makes the difference and enough oil. I liked them thinner to make them crispier and faster cook. Not to high heat and take some time to cook/crisp. with sour cream chive. I used corn starch and got really good crisp!

    For better results put the potatoes in new cold water multiple times to release more starch. (By putting it in cold water, then dry, then put the potatoes in new cold water, then dry again for better results.)

    I've been using the potato ricer for awhile, but binding them with some egg white and grating onion in i would have never thought of.
