  • My pool was extremely cloudy. So much so that you couldn't see the bottom even on the shallow end. So I tried some flocculent.

    Your video was very helpful and actually shows the reality of how everything settles and how many times you have to vacuum and how long you have to run the pump before the water clears up again! My pool looks the same as this pool looked at the beginning. Now all the dust/residue is settled to the bottom. This is my 2nd day vacuuming but like you demonstrated vacuuming kicks up the dust. Only mistake I have made which I learned from this video was I need to waste the water not recirculate. It’s no wonder I have this thinner lighter color sediment settled at the bottom of the pool. I also realized I probably need a new filter because when I vacuum I notice dirty water or lightly powdered water coming through return jet. And I also need a new gauge! Ugh!

      Mary Cabrera do you have a sand filter or a cartridge filter? If sand you can just replace the sand.

      Mary Cabrera - only time u need to vacuum on waste out is when there is a lot of debris on the bottom of your pool and you do not need to backwash since it doesnt go thru your filter. Waste out setting will take more water out. Once your pool is clean and then gets semi dirty later on and you need to vacuum again, vacuum on FILTER setting which you will not lose water bc all the debris will be caught thru your filter system and returned and this is for light dirt on the bottom of the pool. If you feel that your return jet is blowing weak, put on bk wash setting for a minute and then rinse setting for about 30 sec. its important do this to keep your sand filter clean and up to par.
      WASTE OUT= Vacuum for large or a lot of debris/dirt, you lose water but do not need to backwash.
      FILTER= (on vacuum mode) use for light dirt, you lose little to no water. Backwash for a min if gauge reads high or return jet pressure blows weak, then important to rinse for 30 sec. (keeps the sand clean and balanced in your filter).
      I have an in ground pool. Hope this helps. Oh, DO NOT use floc if you dont have to. I have talked to 2 pool techs and both said it can hardened your sand like concrete and ruin ur filter.

      You have to vacuum to waste when using flocculant because it creates very large particles.

    What type of autobot vacuum do you have?

    • @mthorn
      @mthorn  4 года назад

      Yvonne Reilly Zodiac Barracuda G3. It doesn’t use electricity or batteries and works off the pool pump. It works well enough. Every season you have to replace the rubber diaphragm, but that’s cheap and easy.

    I've always diluted floc with water. Clorox doesn't say to do that. Did you?

      No. I just poured it straight in as per the directions.

    What auto vacuums are you using and does it get sides? I have 24x48 above ground. Thanks

      AntiqueJunkietc CateyedWoman I use a Zodiac Baracuda G3. It gets the sides but doesn’t always get every spot. It does well enough though that I only really need to manually scrub the steps.

      Mike T I have one called Keeepy Krawller said got sides too. Yet I don't think it does. But real test hopefully soon on that vacuum. I also have been using those socks to try to keep as much finer to any debris from getting in system. Praying all is gonna be ok. I just updated to Hayward Wanda the Whale OMGOODNESS! Amazing this little character is. Now using Kreepy Krawller for my vacuuming I would of done manually and to waste. Then switch over to Wanda to she climbs walls and does an Amazing Job. Pool looking Great! However started using the HTC products this year to caused me more issues than anything so back to the Chlorax used last year and pool is sparkling again as last yr. These are Great chemicals no doubt. Thanks again and Best Wishes Always to a Clear Sparking Blue clean & beautiful water with Great results followed once a week. ALSO Use the Baking soda Tabs weekly for Algae. No more complainants here...

      Mike T So far after all my manual skimming from bottom to manually vacuumed once This kreepy Krawller Has really done an awesome Job to get the finer debris plus few leaves & stems yet I'm using the Hayward leaf canister and socks as well. So after a good long mth of hard manual It's looking great. Now just gotta get my ladder on new deck and pray this one fits. 2nd orderd 1st one just wanted to float. Thanks for advice and hope to enjoy this weekend.

    I'm having the problem after can see start to skim and goes cloudy before I can get it all out again. Especially now trying to open. Any suggestions prior to vacuuming and skimming leaves & debris? Thanks new pool owner

    • @mthorn
      @mthorn  6 лет назад

      AntiqueJunkietc CateyedWoman is your pump pumping into the pool or out? I pump the water to waste partly so the jets don’t spread the debris around and partly so the debris doesn’t clog the filter. Then I manually vacuum really slow. Way slower than normal.

    • @ESTANTIQUEJUNKIECLASSICCateyed

      Mike T It was pumping in but shut it off before skimming and next day as I went out to skim more it was greenish and could not see the bottom. Checked chemicals and no chlorine ph and algaecide was ok. So got chlorine in this night 2 & turned bk on so it would circulate knowing we were fixing to get rain. Two days of non stop rain to went bk out and could see the bottom again so I turned it bk off and was having a deck built yesterday to rain again today. But suppose to be clear now thru Thursday. As I also called where it came from prior to putting the chlorine in the 2nd day to tell them I possibly need help opening this yr because all new to me and had issue with a crepe myrtle that came into bloom last July and spent lots of money at pool store testing water to getting tree cut bk etc. They suggested chlorine then couple days shocking but before near any idea the rain we had for next few days. So good news can see the bottom again and also know I need to rid some water as they suggested as well. So gonna try to skimming again tomorrow call them empty some water and back wash and take it from there at this point. Thank you for answering bk. I have a I think generic vacuum as that I got late last yr but due to the issues & having to manually vacuum 1st. I tried it but think it just got worse at that point and now I know why after watching video again. Praying for much less stress as I kept it so beautifully crystal clear last yr from approx 1st ot May until Mid July and crepe myrtle bloomed was a nightmare.

      My pool tech told me just to add 6 or more gallons of pool shock a gallon of algaecide and leave your pool motor running on filter for a week or more straight without shutting it off upon opening. Mine is cloudy too and it takes a couple of days before it will run clear before I can vacuum the bottom on waste out. Whatever u do, do not use floc if u have a sand filter. It can turn your sand into concrete and cause lots of issues with your filter. Its a sticky substance. Another pool tech had told me the same. Liquid pool shock is the best, nothing powdery.

      When using flocculant you vacuum to waste so it doesn't matter what type of filter you have. The purpose of using flocculant is to clear out the cloudiness in 24 hours if you need to (ex guests coming and you don't have time to wait for filter).

    • @1abigail99
      @1abigail99 6 лет назад +1

      Mike T Good point, just as long as it doesnt run thru the filter a lot.

    This happens only with sand filters. All that stuff that has settled to the bottom was going right thru the filter.

      Tamara Kennedy yes.

  • @1abigail99

    My pool tech as of 15yrs recommends NOT to use flocculant if you have a sand filter. As it is sticky and can harden and turn your sand into concrete and ruin your filter and you will have a hard time changing it. We recommend just to shock the hell out of it (7-10gallons of it depending size of pool) and use a gallon of algaecide or more and run your filter for days until water runs clear. Then vacuum the bottom on waste out if you have a lot of junk on the bottom (usually when opening pool). Once clear, then on only vacuum on filter setting for light debris. If the return (jet) blows weak, put on backwash for a minute and then rinse for 30seconds. Its very important to do this or it can ruin your sand filter.

      I have a 10,000 gallon above ground pool that has turned green. I've done put in a gallon of algaecide, 3 gallons of bleach & 6 bottles of clorox pool spa shock just over a few days & water still milky cloudy. It's now blue but cloudy. Cant get that to go away. I run th filter day & night & clean filter everyday. I just have the regular pump that came with it.

      When you vacuum flocculant, you set the filter to “waste” so it bypasses the sand filter.

    • @robinvojik7438
      @robinvojik7438 3 года назад

      Thatsw why you put it on recirculate. Or if u have a cartridge filter, pull the fiilter out first and run it without a filter.

    • @mthorn
      @mthorn  4 года назад

      jessica rodriguez Amazon, but they sell them at most pool and hardware stores.
      On top of the filter (if you have a sand filter) the valve should have an option for “waste”.
